THE GREAT AMERICAN TRUCK SHOW 2018 The Great American Truck Show is coming to the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center right here in Dallas from August 23-25th. GATS is the nation’s second-largest trucking trade show that offers free educational seminars, the latest information from industry leaders, and the award-winning Custom Rigs Pride & Polish Truck Beauty Contest.

Steven’s Transport is proud to be part of this year’s event! There will be giveaways for potential drivers, and two of our trucks will enter the Pride and Polish Contest. Thanks to Gabe Rosenthal and his detail team, Stevens has seen tremendous success at the event winning 1st place in the New Truck Working Class Combo division for 5 years straight!

One of our own will also be there, OTR Driver Chris Young! He is one of the top finalists for the Transition Trucking Award. This extremely prestigious competition follows a year-long selection process of veterans, guard members, and reservists that have successfully transitioned in the trucking industry.

If Chris is announced as a nation-wide finalist, he will travel to Washington, D.C. and have a chance to win a fully-loaded Kenworth T680. Last year, Driver Gregg Softy was the winner of this prestigious award and Chris is hoping to follow in his success.

Paragon - It Takes A Team Paragon Leasing- everyone has heard the name, but do you really know what they do?

Paragon is the maintenance and body shop that maintains the trucks and trailers of Stevens Transport at the highest standards. They are a 24/7, 365 days a year operation with over 230 employees who maintain and repair every piece of equipment that keeps Stevens Transport moving forward.

It takes a big team with a fleet our size. There are 9 different departments within Paragon dedicated to maintaining the cleanest and safest tractor and trailers around.

The mechanics of Paragon work in 7 different shops. They are regularly trained by veteran staff members and manufacturer representatives to stay up to date on the latest technology, safety, brakes, and diagnostic protocols. The Wash Bay and Detail Shop play a major role within the company. They work diligently to keep our trucks looking nice inside and out. Paragon’s Road Breakdown is another essential component. This group allows the drivers to call into Paragon 24 hours a day and provide solutions to mechanical issues from anywhere in the country. In addition to all of these important roles, there is also a great team of internal support that help manage all of the work orders, inventory, and other duties that make for a smooth-running operation.

Mille Braucht has been with Paragon for over 16 years said it best, “I come to work because of the people. They all are a joy to work with”.

WHAT’S HAPPENING AT STEVENS?

20 YEARS WITH STEVENS, NOW TIME TO RETIRE!

MICHAEL LEWIS Michael Lewis started at Stevens Transport in 1997 and drove for the company for over twenty years.

Throughout his driving career, Michael has seen millions of miles and made about that many memories.

He recently decided to retire after two decades but will miss his time at Stevens and the people who made his experience memorable.

We sat down with Michael to reflect on over two decades of service to Stevens Transport. Michael stated, “The entire experience of working at Stevens has been terrific. The company has a phenomenal training program, they keep their drivers prepared for anything, and the people have been the best part. They are helpful, knowledgeable, and they’ve made my experience better than I could have ever dreamed.”

Michael spoke with a soft wisdom as he reflected on the joy that being on the open road brought him. He explained how driving for Stevens brought some of the greatest memories of his life. Seeing the mountains excited him and driving through the great plains put him at ease. Michael was very thankful to Stevens Transport for giving him the opportunity to see those sights and have those experiences.

As he transitions into retirement, Michael looks forward to relaxing and picking up hobbies, both old and new. We wish him the best in the next chapter and thank him for his 20 years of service to Stevens.

Parking Lot Expansion

Stevens Transport added 32 additional parking spaces to accommodate the growing number of employees. This expansion will allow everyone in the Dallas office the ability to park in the main parking area without taking up visitor spots or parking in fire lanes. Thank you to the team who made this happen.

In celebration of National Driver Appreciation we are bringing back the office Chili Cook Off. The event will be held Friday, 9/14 and will include both a driver sampling and panel blind taste test. Transport: Tonya Nelsen Qualifications Representative Tonya joined Stevens Transport in May of 2004.

She is recognized for her strong work ethic and wiliness to help others. Tonya understands the needs of others and is skillful at finding the solution that fits best. We appreciate her attentiveness towards her peers and many others that have crossed her path. When we asked Tonya what she enjoys most about her role, she replied “I enjoy helping others. Being able to help people from all different backgrounds start a career is motivating. I like putting together puzzle pieces and problem-solving, so I relate finalizing the application process to just that.” Tonya also shared some helpful advice for our new employees, “Do the best you can. Treat, and communicate with people the way that you would expect. Remember, a smile and a thank you can go a long way-you never know the battle that someone else is fighting.” Tonya has 2 daughters and a precious granddaughter. Outside of work, she enjoys coaching a little league drill team and relaxing at the spa.

Transport: Valerie Stepp Operations- Driver Manager Valerie joined Stevens Transport in May of 2018.

She is recognized for her optimistic approach and positive attitude within the workplace. Valerie has discovered early on that when challenges arise being open-minded, and remaining positive is a formula for success. When we asked Valerie what she enjoys most about her role, she explained “I enjoy the interaction with the drivers. I want them to feel confident that I am here to assist them in any way possible to make their career at Stevens both gratifying and profitable. I enjoy my co-workers as well. They have been very helpful and patient as I transition into my new role.” Valerie also shared some helpful advice for our new employees, “Just breathe. This can feel overwhelming, but it is also rewarding.” Valerie has a daughter and recently became a grandmother to a healthy baby girl!

Outside of work, she enjoys sightseeing, reading, and water sports.

Transport: David Williams Operations- Driver Manager David joined Stevens Transport in May of 2012, as an OTR Driver. He later became a Trainer, Safety Supervisor, and most recently a Driver Manager.

Recognized for his flexibility and dedication within the workplace, David is skilled at adapting to difficulties and remains committed to our drivers’ success. We appreciate the continuous effort he puts forth to advance within the industry. When asked what he enjoys most about Stevens, David replied “Stevens Transport has afforded me the opportunity to grow as a professional and limitless possibilities for a productive future. Striving to do better to provide a comfortable lifestyle for my family would not have been possible without Stevens.” David also shared some helpful advice for our new employees, “Listen to those who are training you. Learn everything you can from every angle.” David will be getting married in November of this year! Outside of work, he enjoys riding motorcycles, tinkering with engines; wood/metal/ electronics, and spending time with his 3 bonus boys.

Transport TL: Maurice Garcia Freight Broker Maurice joined Stevens TL in August of 2012.

He is recognized for his leadership qualities and problem-solving capabilities. Maurice is quick on his feet and excels under pressure. He is a professional and remains in control and responsive when challenges occur. When we asked Maurice what he enjoys most about his role, he explained “I work with smaller carriers that long to be successful. I enjoy building relationships with these carriers in efforts to grow their business.

These relationships grow into partnerships that are beneficial to the company as well as the carrier.” Maurice also shared some helpful advice for our new employees, “Trust the process. Things will begin to come together piece by piece, and it will all make sense. Don’t give up before you see the final results.” Outside of work, Maurice enjoys sightseeing and spending time with family.

Paragon: Audie Delgado Service/Shop Manager Audie joined Paragon in March of 1995. He is recognized for his years of service and authentic management style. Audie is a devoted leader and takes pride in ensuring our drivers and equipment are well taken care of. His management style is appreciated by those who work around him, as he keeps the best interest of the company at the forefront of every decision he makes. When we asked Audie what he enjoys most about Stevens, he replied, “Stevens Transport is my second family and I devote myself daily to making things happen for the shop.” Audie also shared some helpful advice for our new employees, “Always be punctual, dedicated, and dependable in your work ethic. It will be pay off.” Audie is married and has 6 children. Outside of work, he enjoys overseeing a little league baseball team, and being active with his kids.

Paragon: Elvis Hamzic Breakdown Coordinator / Trainer Elvis joined Paragon in January of 1996. He is recognized for his drive and perseverance. Elvis is timely and proficient at finding solutions to day to day challenges and is skilled at building relationships with outside vendors. When we asked Elvis what he enjoys most about his role, he replied “ I like working with the drivers each and every day and finding solutions to their issues.

Working with the various vendors around the nation who assist our drivers is fulfilling. I also like working with new equipment and technology on our trucks.” Elvis also shared some helpful advice for our new employees, “The company is successful and a great place to grow. Work hard and it will benefit everyone.” Elvis is married and has 2 sons. Outside of work, he enjoys landscaping, sightseeing, and spending time with family.
