A Lifetime of Service, A Commitment to Excellence
“From a young age, I was driven by a simple but powerful mission to make things better. Whether it was lending a hand to those in need or solving problems others walked away from, I believed that every challenge was an opportunity to create something meaningful
“That belief led me to the military in 2008, where I found purpose and direction. Serving with the 3rd Brigade Combat Team in the 101st Airborne Division and deploying to Afghanistan in 2009 was both humbling and life-changing. It taught me the true meaning of service sacrifice, responsibility, and an unwavering commitment to the people who rely on you

“Determined to keep growing, I pursued a degree in Nuclear Energy, eventually earning two degrees while serving This dedication opened doors to incredible opportunities improving electrical facilities across South Korea in 2015 and later serving four years at The White House, ensuring critical infrastructure remained operational at the highest level ”

From the General Manager
Sterling Ranch was recently highlighted by two Denver television channels for proactive wildfire management. Multiple elements make up a macro system to keep our community safe. From the three million gallons of water ready for delivery in our low zone and high zone tanks, to the concrete fencing materials we use, the decade of planning that has gone into this 21st-century master-planned community helps protect you and your family Heavy earthmoving equipment stands at the ready to cut fire breaks if necessary The fuel load is lessened by thoughtful cattle grazing practices Additionally, Douglas County has a rapid response helicopter on Moore Road in the event of a fire and we are served by an excellent fire department It was quite interesting hearing the reporters and videographers talk about how impressed they were with our community
The net result of all of these microelements is a macro system that allows your home in Sterling Ranch to have an ISO rating of 1 (the best) for homeowner insurance That is a standard that tells a story to property insurance companies Up and down the Front Range, homeowners have seen their homeowner policies canceled and insurance rates triple in some cases Not so in Sterling Ranch with the ISO rating we have achieved Not only do you live in a safer area, it is also less expensive for your homeowner’s policy
This summer a couple of new park amenities will open Prospect Park is currently under construction and parts of the park will open this year The first elements in Burns Regional Park are pickleball courts that will be surrounded by Pickleglass walls These courts are set to open in early summer Game on
From all of us at CAB, we hope you have a Happy Spring and kickoff to summer.

News and Moos from Milkshake
Milkshake, pictured above with the M and S ear tags, was donated to Sterling Ranch as our official community mascot Milkshake and her new baby, Oreo, represent the spirit of the West and help us honor the history of this land
Wow, it seems like yesterday. I was born in beautiful Sterling Ranch on a March spring day two years ago.
Holy cow, look at me now! I’m a new mom with a baby of my own. My baby bull calf (that’s a boy for you humans) was born on Monday, March 24, 2025 at 5 pm. It was a strange feeling when he was born. At first I didn’t know what to think but then my natural instincts kicked in. I cleaned my baby up and within about 15 minutes Oreo was standing on wobbly legs You can see him in the photo when he was just 20 minutes old Yep, I have that “don’t mess with my baby” look about me I kept licking him because I already love him so much! Before long he had a full tummy
My baby may look like a lot of the other calves, but I would know him anywhere He has his own unique smell, voice, and look You think it is just a moo, but it is music to my ears Don’t be fooled, I’m a gentle heifer, but my baby is all mine and my job is to protect him and watch him grow Nothing will harm my baby and I’m fast with full-time 4-wheel drive
Soon my humans will move me to a small pasture in the neighborhood so you can all stop by and see us along with a couple of our friends While this will be fun, please be aware that we don’t really care for dogs too close to our babies So, just enjoy us safely I can’t wait for spring rains and green grass!
Sincerely, your Sterling Ranch celebricow, Milkshake

Let’s Play Pickleball!

We’re thrilled to announce that Sterling Ranch is joining the pickleball craze! As the fastest-growing sport in the U.S., pickleball has captured hearts nationwide with its easy-to-learn rules, affordable equipment, and fun, social vibe. A mix between tennis, badminton, and ping pong, this fast-paced game provides a great workout while offering a slower, more easygoing pace than tennis or badminton.
But here’s the best part you can’t play pickleball without courts, and we’ve got you covered! The CAB's Burns Regional Park Pickleball Project scored unanimous approval from the Douglas County Planning Commission this year, and now pickleball is coming to YOUR neighborhood. These courts will be your new go-to spot for fitness, fun, and friendly competition, so start gathering your paddle pals and practicing your best dink shots!
Spread the word, and let's get ready to serve up some fun!
Pickleball courts will be the first of many amenities located in Burns Regional Park! The courts will be located south of Sterling Ranch Avenue between Middle Fork Street and Ordway
We completed the engineering plans and permit process in the first quarter of 2025.
We will pour the concrete in early April, followed by landscape installations while the concrete cures. Weather permitting, we will install court amenities and the acrylic surfacing in late May and early June.
We are planning a ribbon-cutting ceremony for late June. Read our weekly email newsletters for details as the date approaches!
Top 5 Things to Know About Pickleball:
Easy to Learn, Fun to Master: Pickleball’s simple rules and smaller court size make it an easy game for beginners, but advanced strategies and quick reflexes keep experienced players engaged
Great for All Ages: Whether you're a kid, a senior, or anywhere in between, pickleball provides a lowimpact way to stay active and healthy
Fast-Paced and Social: The quick rallies and doubles format encourage interaction, making it a fantastic sport for meeting new people and staying connected with friends
Growing Nationwide: Pickleball is now one of the fastest-growing sports in the US, with new courts and tournaments popping up across the country.
Perfect Blend of Strategy and Skill: While power and agility help, pickleball rewards strategic shot placement, finesse, and patience just as much as athleticism.

Sterling Center Design Refresh; Living The Dream Wins Gold
The Sterling Center will be getting a design refresh this spring! The updates will begin with the entry and bathrooms before work begins on the main open space. Plans include a grab-and-go mini market (think: airport kiosk or hotel market), along with updated seating, lighting, and new decor Both Atlas/Salta and Living The Dream Brewing Co will remain open during these changes Later this summer, expect a patio expansion to offer additional outdoor seating, a fire pit, and large garage-style patio doors for indoor/outdoor enjoyment during the warmer months
Speaking of Living the Dream Brewing Co, our neighborhood taproom’s Trailhead Fog IPA recently won a gold medal at the Colorado Brewers Cup
This awards program identifies the best beers in the state, so we're proud to say our residents have one of Colorado's award-winning IPAs on tap in our neighborhood!
“This New England-style IPA recipe was designed by our Brewer David Hubbard,” says Jason Bell, founder of Living the Dream Brewing Co. “It has been a crowd favorite since we debuted it in 2023. It's an honor that the esteemed judges for the Colorado Brewers Cup named it one of the best beers in the state!"
Staff at LTD describe the beer as “a juicy IPA with intense notes of tangerine, pineapple, and passionfruit” Pop into the Sterling Center (8155 Piney River Ave) to try it soon

Meet & Greet: Jen Sanning
Community Navigator Volunteer
Q: You are part of our new Community Navigator volunteer group. What prompted you to become involved?
I got involved in the Navigator group through my first Sterling Ranch friend, Kerri Buted Kerri and I actually met at our New Homowners Orientation in October 2022 We bonded over all the frustrations and excitement of moving and helped each other navigate those early days of getting settled Kerri launched the Navigator Group, and we now have 10+ volunteers supporting new homeowners
Q: Tell us about your background and your family.
I’m originally from Iowa and like many Midwesterners have great memories of visiting the Rockies as a kid. I never expected to move here, but my thenfiancé Chris was getting his Master’s in Archeology at the University of Colorado. We got married in Boulder, raised our two girls in the Homestead neighborhood in Centennial, then moved for a job opportunity to Nashville, TN. We moved back after a decade because we missed everything about Colorado: our friends and family and of course, all the natural beauty of our state
We decided to move to Prospect Village because it felt like living in a mountain community with foothill views around every corner! We were lucky to secure a lot that backs to the wildlife corridor and I start every morning

“I start every morning with my coffee and the cows watching the sunrise over the beautiful ranch land!” g

Q: What are your favorite hobbies/activities?
Chris and I love exploring and hiking. Our oldest Emma, 27, and her husband John took time off from work to travel the world which gave us a great excuse to meet them to hike Machu Pichu. We love history and learning about other cultures. We were excited to discover Cherokee Ranch and have been to many events there including an outdoor bluegrass show. It is an incredible place with views from Long's to Pike’s Peak and is packed with museum quality pieces My goal is to be a docent there when I retire! We have recently discovered yurts and are obsessed Most of our outdoor activities include our rescue dog Carl We began to rescue older dogs when we turned 50 It will be nice to meet new neighborhood dogs, and their owners, this spring on the many paths in Prospect Village
Q: Tell us about your profession and/or volunteer activities:
I’ve had a thirty-year career in marketing, leading several national restaurant brands. Chris was a stay-at-home dad until our girls were older, then he became an elementary school teacher in their school Chris was everyone’s favorite teacher and coach, coaching nearly every sport -- soccer, basketball, swimming, and lacrosse Chris is now a substitute teacher in the Littleton School District I am an Executive Advisor at Forrester Research coaching c-suite executives on leadership, strategy and marketing challenges Chris and I are both mentors at Venture Academy of Leadership and Entrepreneurship (VALE) high school in Douglas County. I’ve recently joined the board of Ronald McDonald House Denver and look forward to getting more involved in board work.

Q: Any advice for residents who may want to get more involved here in Sterling Ranch?
One of the best things about this community is that it is a NEW community. The neighbors I’ve met really care about making this the best place it can be. It is exciting because we get to be part of building the community we want. I’ve seen neighbors influence everything from where doggie waste stations are situated to advocating for traffic circles for greater walkability It can also be challenging because there are kinks to be worked out So I guess the advice is this if you see a kink, share it so it can be worked out and if you see opportunity to do something new or make something great, share that too!

Spring Gardening Tips
The Importance of Choosing Native Plants in Colorado
by Leslie Clemensen Sterling Ranch Birds & Blooms Club
Colorado’s unique climate and diverse ecosystems make native plants the best choice for landscaping and conservation Native species are adapted to the state’s semi-arid conditions, requiring less water, fertilizer, and pesticides while supporting local wildlife
Ecological
and Water Conservation Benefits
Native plants sustain pollinators like bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds while reducing the need for irrigation With Colorado’s dry climate, drought-tolerant species such as Rocky Mountain penstemon, blue flax, prairie coneflower, pasque flower, and yarrow are ideal for xeriscaping and water-wise gardening
Selecting the Right Plants for the Right Location

Choosing the appropriate native plants depends on site conditions such as sunlight, soil type, and moisture levels
Some plants thrive in full sun, like blanketflower and rabbitbrush, while others, such as wild columbine and serviceberry, do well in shady areas Ensuring plants are matched to their preferred growing conditions increases their resilience and minimizes maintenance
Economic
and Low-Maintenance Advantages
Because they are naturally suited to the region, native plants need less upkeep, lowering costs for water, fertilizers, and pest control Hardy species like rabbitbrush, serviceberry, and wild bergamot resist local pests and thrive with minimal intervention
Aesthetic
and Cultural Value
Native plants enhance landscapes with seasonal beauty, vibrant colors, and historical significance. Choices such as blanketflower, columbines, and mountain mahogany contribute to Colorado’s natural heritage.

Conclusion
Planting native species conserves water, supports biodiversity, and reduces maintenance costs Incorporating them into gardens, parks, and restoration projects ensures Colorado’s landscapes remain healthy and beautiful for future generations
Resident Spotlight: Trauth Family

Eryn Trauth shares her favorite things to do with her busy family of five.
Tell us about your background.
We were both born in Colorado and grew up in Littleton I attended Chatfield High School and my husband attended Columbine We both graduated from the University of Colorado Boulder (go Buffs!) with finance degrees I work at TIAA as a Client Services Manager on our Retirement Services team, and Buddy works at Lockheed Martin as a Finance Lead in the Space Program
Carter (8) is in second grade, Hayden (6) is in kindergarten and Quinn (3) is in preschool. Quinn is looking forward to being at the same school as her siblings next school year.
How long have you lived in Sterling Ranch?
We moved to Sterling Ranch in October of 2018 (we closed exactly two weeks before our second child was born) I think we were house number 108 in the neighborhood to close We realized that our two-bedroom condo in Wash Park was going to be too small to expand our family so started looking to be closer to our parents (my mom lives in Ken Caryl and my in-laws live near Grant Ranch) We also both have siblings and the kiddos have cousins in the Denver Metro area We have brought home two more kids since we moved here, survived the bomb cyclone, socially distanced with our neighbors during the pandemic and it’s always felt like home We love being close to the mountains, parks, our families and still drivable to downtown for work and a date night or drink
What do you love most about living here? Do you have a favorite trail, park, or outdoor activity?
Our favorite thing about living in Sterling Ranch has quickly become our neighbors who have become our family Raising our kids with our friends’ kids has been the biggest blessing From drinks at Living the Dream, snow day shenanigans, to park hangouts, backyard parties, Broncos games, Bunco, murder mystery parties, chili cookoffs, Friendsgiving, weekends in the mountains, and even traveling to Mexico we have felt so lucky to call these amazing friends our neighbors.
What tips do you have for building community?
When we moved here, it was small, and it felt like we met everyone in a short amount of time We went to every CAB event and spent Friday afternoons when the weather was nice at Living The Dream We love events with the kids, but it is also so important for parents to have time away too The pool in the summer is a great place to meet up with people you know or meet new people too
What are some of your favorite springtime or early summer activities?
We love springtime in Colorado, it’s the perfect time to go skiing with the kids because it’s not as cold or crowded! My son plays baseball with Ken Caryl Little League in the spring, and weekends can be full of games (sometimes in the snow).

The end of the school year seems so chaotic, but we always look forward to summer -- lots of local camps for the kiddos, weekends at the pool, and time in Grand Lake on the boat for our family
Do you have a hobby or passion that inspires you? What keeps you motivated every day?
We both love skiing and have really enjoyed getting the kids all on skis in the past few seasons My dad (now known as Grandpa) is a ski instructor at Snowmass so we get spoiled with lessons with Grandpa once a year too Before we good dark stout and my husband likes West Coast IPAs We the metro area.

Tell us about your home and your design style.
We live in the Lennar Elements and we love our home It has become a little cozy with three kids, but we don’t have to spend our weekends maintaining a yard or shoveling snow so it’s perfect for us Our design aesthetic is lego/squishmallow/unicorn/art projects from school chique (just kidding)
What are you most excited to see as the community continues to grow?
We would love a rec center with more indoor space for the kids, like an indoor basketball court and some indoor and outdoor athletic fields too.

Springtime at Seven Stones Botanical Cemetery
by Becky Holm, Seven Stones Cemetery Director
Breathing Life Into Death
Tucked into the heart of the foothills lies a different type of sanctuary…a botanical garden cemetery unlike anything you’ve ever seen. Life and death join together at Seven Stones in a unique garden full of beauty, light and nature, where the caring team strives to make smiles a little easier to come by at the hardest of times
During the season of Spring we are reminded around every corner that life follows death As the air begins to warm, it carries with it the promise of fresh beginnings and vibrant blooms With each passing day, nature sheds its wintry coat, paving the way for a kaleidoscope of colors to paint the landscape We bid farewell to the frosty embrace of Winter, and we embrace the dawn of a new chapter filled with possibilities and the gentle whispers of Spring's rejuvenating touch
Soon, the once-bare trees will be bursting forth with fresh leaves Flowers will start to wake up from hibernation and show off their new buds. The lush grasses will grow denser and greener, creating a serene setting where families gather to share stories and pay tribute to those they hold dear. Families at Seven Stones like to say we are “breathing life into death.”
The Birth of a Dream
Seven Stones began thirteen years ago with a simple idea from Monte Losaw, a life-long resident of Roxborough and landowner of what is now the hallowed ground of Seven Stones He and his brother, Charlie Piper, and a friend, Don Guerra discovered CPRA (Doug Flin’s Cemetery Planning Company) and from there, everything fell into place. United by a shared vision, this team of four saw the future of cemeteries differently and believed they could create a better way for people to care for and remember their loved ones. In 2015 the dream became a reality with our ground breaking.

Visit the Gardens
Taking a stroll through the gardens is a welcome respite from the daily stream of the very busy lives we lead. Seven Stones welcomes anyone and everyone who wants to come visit. Whether you have a loved one here with us, or you’re just an avid bird watcher, this space is for you. Some visitors like to come sit by a firepit or the babbling brook in one of our many Adirondak chairs and just enjoy watching the birds, bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds flit about Others prefer to gather with friends and share stories Some will bring a picnic lunch and let their kiddos enjoying watching the frogs & fish in the pond
Spring Blooms
The first wildflowers you will see in spring are Flax. Look for delicate blue bell-shaped flowers near the parking area. The first blooming shrubs you will see are Spirea and Quince. These do not last long, so enjoy them before the heat of summer
The first tree blossoms will be Flowering Pear trees and Royal Raindrops Crabapple trees These both have very delicate blooms and only last about two weeks in May You will usually see the magnificent display of fuchsia raindrops around Mother’s Day or shortly after

We invite you to bring a blanket and soak up the scenery, the fauna, and the flora At Seven Stones you can spend time reflecting on life, loss, and cherished memories Here, you can cry your eyes out or laugh to your heart’s content Grief looks different for everyone; there is no right or wrong way to carry it Whether you come to us to celebrate, or to simply be, you are welcome at Seven Stones
