HEALTHY MEAL OPTIONS

Sometimes it can feel really daunting to prioritize your health and fitness, and even more so when you are out with your friends playing around the Clubhouse. We’d like to introduce to you some information and guidance to help you be the healthiest you can be while still enjoying all that we have to offer around SSCC (featuring items from our all-new spring/summer menu).

Remember, implementing small changes and staying consistent are really what’s going to help you reach your goals When it comes to nutrition, here are a couple of things to keep in mind:

Eat from all the food groups. Your body needs a whole range of nutrients to function the way it’s supposed to, but more importantly, it’s about balance. Eat more of the foods that fuel you long term, like veggies and fiber, and less of the hard-to-process foods like prepackaged products (think chips) and concentrated sugar It’s also really important to know your body and what from each of the food groups will help you work towards your goals and keep you feeling good

Eat Mindfully.

We love this one here at the Club because it’s all about taking the time to actually enjoy your meals Eliminating distractions and making a conscious effort helps you not only savor the flavor of your meal, but also in listening to your hunger and fullness cues

Something that we also see often is people wanting to make healthier choices, but then we get distracted by all of the other delicious choices on the menu.

Our hope here is to provide you with some options that are already on the menu here, and to give you an understanding of what it is about these meals that make them a better alternative

Head over to the 511 Chophouse or the Five Eleven Bar & Grill and try one of these out today! See you soon!

1. Hummus & Fresh Vegetables

Let’s start with an easy and delicious appetizer! Our house-made hummus, paired with fresh vegetables & olive oil are a great way to add some of that color into your meal. For an even healthier alternative, ask to skip the naan bread

The hummus is good for you because it contains protein, fiber, and minerals, but there are definitely some natural fats involved, so you should be aware if you are watching your fat intake Otherwise this is a great healthy start to any meal!

2. Chef Salad

A salad might be an obvious choice, but that doesn’t mean it has to be a boring one! This salad already comes with ham, turkey, shredded cheese, cherry tomato, red onion, a hardboiled egg, and avocado for $12.

Get your greens, protein, and good fat goals met with one meal! Ask for a light option to switch your dressing from the house special to olive oil with a lemon wedge and salt & pepper, or ask for dressing on the side to control the portions yourself Now you have a healthy option without skipping on flavor.

3. Cali Chicken Club

This is a great grab-and-go option for those times you’re here on the course and want to still make your choice a healthy one. This club comes with chicken breast, smoked mayo, avocado, lettuce, tomato, bacon, and cheddar for $13

Ask for a light option to swap out your bread with a lettuce wrap, your mayo with a lighter dressing, and the option to take out the cheese You’ll still have a delicious sandwich wrap that’s filling and helping you reach your goals

*This is good place to note that cheese itself is not BAD, but you should know your body’s limits and whether the cheese will help count towards or against your goals.

4. Blackened Salmon

Salmon is SO good for you, and delicious too! Our blackened salmon comes with green beans and rice pilaf for $25

The rice pilaf is rich in fiber and helps promote healthy digestion It is a touch high in calories and fat, but it also contains protein and essential carbs, so it’s a well-balanced side. The salmon itself has good Omega 3's that can help reduce systemic inflammation and chronic pain in your body! Salmon is also an excellent source of vitamins that your body needs for producing energy and protecting heart and brain health You won’t regret grabbing a bite of this delicious healthy meal in the Chophouse

5. Hanger Steak & Summer Squash

We couldn’t give you this list without including a beef option for our meat-lovers. Our delicious hanger steak is cooked to your preference and served with roasted fingerlings and summer squash for $27

Hanger steak contains important vitamins and minerals like Vitamin B12, phosphorus for bone formation, and a little zinc for tissue repair, energy and metabolism, and antioxidant activity You can substitute the fingerlings with green beans or a side salad for an even healthier option

Tee Talk Golf Opportunities

Kendall Motes, Head Golf Pro

March and April came with lots of rain, and random cold fronts, but we had enough good golf weather to get in a lot of events! We hosted the 3A District (Mt Vernon/Winnsboro) tournament, as well as the 6A District (Rockwall/Tyler) for the first time. We received so much amazing feedback from the players, parents, and coaches, raving about our course and new facilities. So thank you for sharing your course for those days!

Special Congratulations to our Lady Cat and Wildcat golf teams of Sulphur Springs for making it to regionals again this year. We are proud to be your home course and watch all of your success!

We had a great turnout for the St. Paddy’s Day scramble, but the weather had other plans. About 2 holes in, Alex and I rushed to get everyone off the course before the flood came. The simulators and pub came in handy during the rain! So, still a good day

We have new merchandise coming in for the summer! Ladies’ Foot Joy, Men’s Straight Down, etc We can’t wait for you to see what we can add to your closets for summer Did you know you can come do a personalized shopping experience with me? We can look through the catalogs and find outfits specifically for you that other members don’t have

For May and June, if you come shop our Fall 2024 catalogs and buy 2 or more items, we will give you 20% off the whole order! Just email kearp@sulphurspringscc com to set up a time

We have a lot to look forward to in May and June Here are some highlights:

May 3rd

Chamber of Commerce Scramble

This tournament is always a crowd favorite The chamber does such an amazing job putting on this event; we look forward to it every year.

Junior Golf Camps

When Johnny hired me, he said he wanted me to focus on getting juniors out here and getting them excited about golf The camps are always a huge hit with the kiddos, introducing golf to them in a fun way, while still learning the basics We just want them to fall in love with the game like we all have

Billy Huckabee, Golf Course Superintendent

The golf course is coming out of winter in good shape overall We’ve got a little damage to green collars, but other than that all looks really good

We will be applying our main fertilizer application the first week of May and doing our Dryject application on May 28th. Rainfall has been plentiful this spring so we’re looking forward to a great year on the course.

Please do your part and help with ball marks, divots and driving carts in a respectful manner

y g p equipment in our gym is the modular frame with the cable crossover! This unit was decided upon because it offers effective resistance training and has the multi-grip chin bar. With that being said, did you know that the weakest muscle most golfers have is their core? A movement to help strengthen your core while using the multi-jungle is kneeling eccentric rotations or a cable reverse wood chop If both sides of unit are being used, you can also perform these movements with a medicine ball or dumbbell If you’d like some help setting up for these exercises, see me and I’d be happy to assist you!

Summer is getting close and most of us are trying to lose those “last few pounds” we put on during the winter. I’ve been asked about natural ways to boost your metabolism This is something that I coach clients through with my nutrition program that will become available to our members sometime in the month of May

Natural ways to boost your metabolism are: reducing stress, drinking enough water, eating plenty of protein, exercising (duh!), and limiting processed foods Let’s schedule a consultation and

e e c s g s s a l e o call “Active Rest and Recovery” (which is one of the classes that I host!)

Active recovery is simply as it sounds: staying active but still allowing your body to rest For example, if you simply lift or do a mix of cardio, strength, and resistance training-- perhaps on a day off-- go to the park and simply go for a walk. Soak up some sunshine and a good

A solar eclipse happens when the Sun, the Moon, and the Earth are aligned. On April 8th, 2024, Sulphur Springs, TX was in the path of the umbral shadow, with a near 100% view of the total solar eclipse.

Monday, April 8, 2024 - What an unforgettable day for SSCC! We absolutely loved seeing all of you out here enjoying the food, golf, simulators, and all that the Club has to offer Between the 14 teams who competed in the morning scramble and the dozens of families who stopped by to eat lunch and play around the Clubhouse, this place was FULL of life and full of joy!

As we all got in for work that morning, a subtle worry crept up about the clouds in the sky, but those fears were quickly resolved when so many of you came in for the 4-person Eclipse Scramble I grabbed a friend and rode out on a golf cart to try and capture some of the teams in action and, to my surprise, the sun decided to show! Then we stopped back at the Clubhouse to try and get a few littles playing on the bounce house and in the simulators, and I enjoyed watching families try their hand at simulator baseball. After cooling off, I made my way to the Bar & Grill to find so many of our Members had stopped in for food and drink specials ahead of the eclipse.

When it was time to view the eclipse, I made my way out to the lawn where many of our Members had gathered. There was laughter and cheers as people took their places out on the patio, in the grass, and on the greens, and the sun began to slowly disappear behind the moon. Everyone donned a pair of goofy glasses or held a piece of welder’s glass and took a minute to quiet down and stare at the sky.

What an eerie thing to witness- darkness in the middle of the day- even the animals changed their behavior for just a brief moment And then, nearly four and a half minutes later, the world was back and life continued on More games of Jenga were played, a golf shootout filled the course again, and the Clubhouse eventually reached that brief sigh before evening meals began

In all, it was such a special and unique experience for all who were able to bear witness, and I am honored to have shared the event with all of you

The MGA board has established a Tee Box Amendment to the MGA Tournament Tee Rule. The original rule was, “If your age and handicap index was 59 or less, you play the blue tees If between 59-65 you play the white tees Age 65 and older play the gold tees ” The amendment still follows this rule, with the exception that you can now move forward no more than one set of tees, with your course adjusted handicap, plus one additional stroke If you are 60 years old or over, you can move from the white tees to the gold tees, with your course adjusted handicap plus one additional stroke There will be a minimum of 3 strokes, and a maximum of 4 strokes applied to this

The Hole-in-One Program is still a valid program, and will pay any MGA member $600 for a hole-in-one made on the SSCC course If you were to make one, the stipulations are that: (1) you must have a regulated round (9-hole round does qualify), and (2) you must have two witnesses, one of which has to be another MGA member A score card must be turned into the Pro Shop, and the round entered into the GHIN system. Each time a hole-in-one is made, the membership of the MGA is charged another $5 on their dues in order to help fund this program There were seven hole-in-ones paid in 2023 Congratulations to Jon Landers, Alex Motes, Josh Morrison, Nathan Mathews, David Robinson, Kris Childress (2) Congratulations to Bobby Brown and Billy Escobar for being the first two recipients so far in 2024

MGA tournaments left for this year are the MGA Championship on July 27th and 28th, and Member/Guest on September 28th and 29th

As always, if you are not a member of the MGA and would like to be, stop by the Pro Shop and fill out a card
