St. Pius X, an archdiocesan high school, provides a college preparatory education for the formation of the mind, body, and spirit of each student in accordance with the teachings of the Catholic Church.Aaron Parr Interim President, 2022-2023
Dear Alumni, Parents, and Friends of St. Pius X:
For 65 years, our school has been a beacon of joy, hope, camaraderie, and excellence in the Atlanta community. Our school’s mission has been the same for the past 65 years – to prepare students for college and heaven. Our students are intellectually curious, active participants in the Catholic Church, and outstanding in their continuing efforts to raise the bar in co-curricular activities. Thanks to your generosity and support, our school is thriving and flourishing!
The 2021-2022 school year was a watershed year for St. Pius X as we kicked off the largest capital campaign in the school’s history. The $14,800,000 Ring the Bells Capital Campaign, once complete, will feature a renovated library, new lobby, and two new athletic buildings. Construction on the first phase of the campaign began in January 2022 with the installation of Seaver Family Sports Complex field and pathway lights. The Flannery O’Connor Library was fully renovated over the summer of 2022 and includes group study rooms, a dedicated classroom, and flexible seating to meet our students' needs. The first phase of construction also included new back gates as well as a newly constructed front office and attendance area, which opened in early 2023. These improvements ensure that our students are secure on campus during the school day.
The second and final phase of construction, started in early 2023, includes a new athletic center on the main campus and a press box structure at Seaver Complex. Once completed, the athletic center will provide a state of the art health and wellness center, athletic training room, health and wellness classrooms, and locker rooms for our athletic teams. The Seaver Complex building will include long-needed restrooms, a press box, and a concession stand. We could not embark on a campaign of this magnitude without an incredible outpouring of support from our community. I hope you will join me in thanking the more than 500 alumni, families, and friends of St. Pius X who are helping us ring the bells of victory for our beloved school!
While campus improvements are an important part of our growth, they will never be as important as the people and the relationships formed at St. Pius X. As the first school leader who is an alumni, I am most proud of our community. Each day, I am reminded how blessed I am to walk the halls and serve our students, faculty, parents, and alumni. Our family atmosphere has always been what makes St. Pius X special. Great power lies in a group of people committed to a shared vision, and together, we will continue to take the history and traditions of St. Pius X and pay them forward so we can leave a great legacy for the next generation of Golden Lions.
It is with a great deal of gratitude that I present you the 2021-2022 Annual Report. I invite you to take a few minutes to read through this publication. In it, you will find proof that our community is second to none. This report is a testament to the many who have committed to sharing in the continual growth and improvement of St. Pius X.
Thank you for your faith and support for the mission of St. Pius X. I hope you take the time to come back and visit our campus often. It is a place that you can always call “home.”
Domini Sumus…We are the Lord’s.

Class of 2022 Valedictorian Katherine Graebner and Salutatorian Maxi BroggiUNDER THE TUSCAN SUN AUCTION & GALA SETS RECORD
It was a grand night for fundraising at the “Under the Tuscan Sun” Auction and Gala on February 5, 2022. The biennial event made history by grossing over $310,000 in support of the St. Pius X Ring the Bells Capital Campaign. The Gala offered both live and silent auctions, including 220 items featuring getaways, exclusive experiences, professional services, and the much anticipated junior and senior parking spaces. The live auction created quite the buzz, selling not one but three trips to Tuscany. The Fund-A-Cause brought in over $45,000 to furnish the Flannery O'Connor Library, which was renovated as part of the Ring the Bells Capital Campaign.
The Gala Committee, co-chaired by parents Paige Smith and Jessica Dykes, sold more than 450 tickets and turned The Factory Atlanta into a true Tuscan experience. Attendees enjoyed dancing to the music of the Better Than Silence band and partaking in an Italian dinner catered by Laura Thompson Rogers '80 of C. Parks Catering. Beverage sponsors included the Pius-affiliated businesses of Blue Ridge Spirit & Wine Marketing, ASW Distillery of Atlanta, and Contrast Artisan Ales of Chamblee.
Leading up to the Gala, four Class Parties were held in the private homes of Pius families. These events, co-hosted by fellow

parents, not only raised additional funds for the Gala, they brought together the Pius community for warm and inviting evenings of fellowship, furthering the spirit that makes St. Pius X so special.
Thank you to the Gala Committee members, sponsors, Class Party hosts, auction donors, attendees, and the St. Pius X family for making this an evening full of amore!

2021-2022 YEAR IN RETROSPECT
Following a hiatus from retreats during the pandemic, Campus Ministry was once again able to host off-campus retreats. In November, 40 students attended the Domini Sumus retreat at Life Teen Camp Hidden Lake in Dahlonega, GA. In March, 25 girls attended the Girls’ Retreat at Camp Hidden Lake. The girls enjoyed Mass, adoration, rest, fun activities, and small group time.
The pride of our legacy families shined with 116 legacy families attending St. Pius X. In addition, 39 alumni faculty and staff graced our classrooms and offices.
On November 1, 2021, St. Pius X held our Grandparents’ Day celebration with 235 grandparents in attendance. Guests enjoyed Mass in the gym, a visual arts display in the cafeteria, and goody bags.
The St. Pius X Alumni Association created a service opportunity in conjunction with Catholic Charities Atlanta to benefit the residents of St. Joseph Place, an independent living community for low-income seniors in south Atlanta. The St. Pius X community donated laundry supplies for the 47 residents of St. Joseph Place, and volunteers assembled “loads of love” laundry baskets
with detergent, fabric softener, dryer sheets, hangers, and quarters for the coin-operated machines.
SPX Theatre earned Runner-Up at the GHSA 5AAAAA Regional One Act Awards with their piece Failure: A Love Story. In addition, the group was honored with Outstanding Ensemble Character and All Star Cast. The thespians earned accolades in October at the Georgia Theatre Conference R. Lynne Woody One Act competition, including Best Ensemble for the entire cast, Best Performers, and Best Supporting Performers.
The Fall Blood Drive and Spring Blood Drive were both huge successes, collecting a total of 222 pints of blood. The Red Cross estimates that up to three lives are saved with each pint!
In November, St. Pius X Theatre students took a trip to New York City. In addition to sightseeing and attending Mass at St. Patrick’s Cathedral, students saw three fantastic Broadway productions and attended two professional Broadway workshops where learned from Broadway performers from All that Jazz (Chicago) and
There has to be Something Better Than This (Sweet Charity).
Liv Diaz '23, Lily Perella '23, Kate Richardson '22, and Mary Claire Morrison '22 had their respective pieces accepted into the 2021-22 All-State Art Symposium. Only 100 works were accepted out of over 1,600 submissions by the panel of judges. Grace Tran '23 won second place in the High School painting category in the Georgia Independent School Association Art Show.
On November 30, 284 donors made contributions to the #iGiveCatholic one-day giving campaign, raising nearly $134,263 in support of the Annual Fund. The school took first place in Atlanta for the amount raised and was twelfth overall in the United States.

In December, St. Pius X Band students traveled to Hawaii to perform in the Pearl Harbor Day parade commemorating the 80th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor. While in Hawaii, students performed at the USS Missouri, toured the USS Arizona Memorial, and heard from Pearl Harbor survivors and other World War II veterans.

Mrs. Karen Travers, who has been the St. Pius X Registrar since 2014, was named the 2022 Employee of the Year. Mrs. Travers exemplifies dedication, faith, and passion for the mission of our school.
The STAR program honors Georgia’s outstanding high school seniors and the teachers who have been most instrumental in their academic development. The Class of 2022 STAR Student was Samuel Grass, and he chose Ms. Lesley Bowman as his STAR Teacher.
In May, the Fine Arts department recognized 17 Fine Arts students who will major or minor in the arts in college. Also honored were 38 recipients of the Fine Arts Diploma seal, which is a new way to recognize students who participated in Fine Arts all four years. All seal recipients received a special cord to be worn at graduation.
To show our appreciation for his 20-plus years of remarkable service to St. Pius X, this spring we proudly announced that the baseball/softball field at Seaver Family Sports Complex had been named in honor of former Principal and Interim President, Mr. Steve Spellman.
St. Pius X Theology teacher Amy Foster Williams ’85 won Teacher of the Year. Mrs. Williams has been at St. Pius X for 22 years and with the Archdiocese for 29 years. She previously assisted former Theatre Director Bonnie Spark for ten years, and she resumed the role in the 2022-2023 school year. She is the moderator of the Random Acts of Kindness Club and the Cancer Awareness Club.
The 2021-2022 sports season at St. Pius X concluded another successful campaign, as 21 of 22 teams advanced to the state playoffs. The Golden Lions captured three AAAAA state championships in volleyball, girls’ cross country, and girls’ swim and dive, while finishing as state runners-up in boys’ cross country, boys’ soccer, boys’ tennis, and girls’ golf. In addition to the success at the state level, St. Pius X also brought home ten region titles, and finished second in AAAAA in the Georgia Athletic Directors Association Region Director’s Cup standings.

The Ring the Bells Capital Campaign, the largest in school history, will transform the library, front and rear entrances of the school, and athletic facilities. The $14.8M campaign publicly launched on October 15, 2021 with an exciting $1M matching gift challenge from a family of alumni siblings, and $7.3M raised to date. By December 1, 2022, roughly $13.2M had been raised toward the goal, with fundraising efforts continuing into 2023. Seaver Family Sports Complex pathway and field lights were installed in January 2022, and the renovation of the Flannery O’Connor Library was completed during summer 2022. A new lobby and rear gates were completed during the 2022-2023 school year, and construction began on the new athletic facilities in 2023.
With sincere gratitude, we wish to acknowledge the following donors who made pledges and/or contributions to Ring the Bells from November 1, 2019 to December 1, 2022.

ANNUAL FUND HONOR ROLL
The Annual Fund Honor Roll recognizes individuals who support the school’s Annual Fund. We further recognize those who have contributed on a continuing basis. Any donor who has contributed this year, and the previous four years, is listed with his or her name in italics. Furthermore, any donor who has contributed this year, and the previous nine years, is listed with his or her name in bold and italicized. Placement reflects the sum of personal gifts and any company matching gifts. Please note that this list only reflects Annual Fund gifts made July 1, 2021 to June 30, 2022. Donations to other funds are disclosed elsewhere in this report. Thanks to the generosity of this community, this year, we raised $1,124,959. This money supports the day-to-day operations of the school and builds on the foundation laid decades ago.

ST. PIUS X ENDOWMENT
Thanks to the generosity of numerous families and individuals through the years, St. Pius X Catholic High School is the beneficiary of $10,169,628 in endowments and awards. These funds include $8,254,570 held by the Catholic Foundation of North Georgia as well as the Archdiocese of Atlanta for the beneficial interest of the school. In addition, donors established endowment funds totaling $1,809,463 at the Catholic Foundation of North Georgia which are not included in any of the school’s financial statements. In total there are more than 80 individual endowed funds and funded awards that support tuition assistance, student and faculty enrichment, and the general operating needs of the school. Endowments allow a gift to remain intact while only the interest from the principal is used for the stated purpose of the fund. Named funds of $25,000 or more are considered endowed, generally providing at least $1,000 in funding each year.
If you are interested in establishing a fund, please contact the Director of Advancement for more information. Please note, funds with an asterisk* are actively seeking donations as they have not yet reached the $25,000 endowment level.
NEWLY ESTABLISHED SCHOLARSHIPS
The following scholarship was established in the past year. We thank those St. Pius X supporters who made this scholarship possible.
DON HEDGES ’70 SCHOLARSHIP*
Don Hedges was adopted by the Hedges family as a baby, and his whole life was about family. St. Pius X was a great part of that family identity. While attending St. Pius X, he was a member of the 1968 State Championship football team. He remained in touch with other teammates throughout the years, worked on reunion committees, and served on the Alumni Association Board. The Hedges Family established this student scholarship to honor Don and to keep the family tradition of St. Pius X alive. Numerous gifts were received in Don's memory from 2012 through 2021, and were deposited in the St. Pius X Memorial Scholarship Fund. When the Don Hedges '70 Scholarship was established in 2021, these memorial funds were transferred to the new fund.

When a loved one passes away, families may ask that donations be made to the St. Pius X Memorial Fund in memory of the deceased. If donations to an individual do not reach $25,000 (in which case an individual endowed scholarship would be created) then the monies are pooled with other gifts in the Memorial Scholarship fund. This endowed pool is held in perpetuity while the interest from the principal provides student scholarships. The following gifts were received during the 2021-2022 fiscal year.

PRAYER OF ST. PIUS X
O Lord Jesus Christ let your passion be my strength to sustain, guard, and protect me. Let your wounds be my food and drink to nourish, fill, and invigorate me. Let the shedding of your blood cleanse me of all my sins. Let your death obtain eternal life for me and your cross lead me to everlasting glory. Let these constitute for me refreshment and joy, health and uprightness of heart.
