WESTON SPORTS & ACTIVITIES DIRECTORY (954) 993-0144 Office
620 Carrington Dr. Weston, FL 33326 www.sportsandactivities.com
As the summer season draws to a close and the days gradually grow shorter, as I reflect with gratitude, on the many memorable moments we have shared—family gatherings, community events, and travels that have strengthened our bonds. The spirit of connection and support that defines our community has been truly inspiring. With the arrival of the new school year, I am pleased to share our Back to School issue, which highlights the many opportunities available for students, parents, and residents alike. Our schools are preparing for a year of academic achievement, personal growth, and the building of lasting friendships.
Registration for after-school programs and sports is now open. Whether your child’s interests lie in creative arts, technology and robotics, or athletics such as soccer, basketball, or baseball, our directory offers a variety of options to meet every passion and interest.
We also extend a warm invitation to parents and community members to consider volunteering within our schools. Your involvement, whether in the classroom, at events, or on the athletic field—has a meaningful impact on educational experience and fosters a stronger, more connected community. Details on how to volunteer registration at Broward Schools can be found on page 56 of this issue.
Inside, you will also find articles designed to support and inspire families, including “Helping Teens Manage Time with School and Sports”, as well as comprehensive guides to local programs, sports teams, and community activities to assist you in planning for the year ahead.
As we embark on the 2025–2026 school year, I extend my best wishes to all students, parents, and educators for a year filled with curiosity, perseverance, and success. Let us approach this season with optimism, work together toward shared goals, and celebrate every milestone—large or small—that we achieve as a community.
Thank you for your continued support and for making Sports and Activities the #1 source of information. Together, we will make this school year both productive and memorable.
Best regards,
Isabel Magette Publisher
As we shift from the relaxed pace of summer to the start of a new school year, I would like to take a moment to welcome you back and share a few timely updates from the City of Weston.
August marks the beginning of another exciting academic year, and with it comes renewed energy in our homes, schools, and neighborhoods. To all our students, parents, teachers, and school staff—welcome back and congratulations, as all Broward County Public Schools in Weston are once again A-rated! We are proud of our vibrant community where education, safety, and quality of life go hand in hand. Please remember to slow down and stay alert in school zones and remind your children to use crosswalks, listen to the crossing guards, and wear helmets when biking or scootering to school.
In line with our ongoing efforts to maintain safe and enjoyable public spaces for all residents, I would like to share information about an upcoming City ordinance. The ordinance, if adopted, would restrict the use of electric bikes and scooters in City parks.
For the safety of pedestrians, children, and all park users, electric bikes and scooters will only be permitted on park roads and must be parked in designated parking areas. Riders must also observe the posted speed limit. These devices will not be permitted on walking paths, trails, or open park grounds. We recognize many residents enjoy using these devices for recreation and transportation, and this ordinance aims to strike a balance between convenience and community safety.
We remain committed to keeping Weston beautiful, walkable, and family-friendly. Whether you are returning to school, participating in league sports, or simply enjoying our many parks and recreational amenities, I encourage everyone to stay safe, be respectful of others, and take pride in all that Weston has to offer.
Lastly, it is still hot outside! Be sure to stay hydrated when outside and in our parks, and always use sunscreen. If you are enjoying many of the waterways or pools we have in South Florida, be sure to establish a Water Watcher, an adult supervisor, to always watch children. Drowning is preventable.
Wishing you a wonderful season ahead!
Warm regards,
Margaret ‘Peggy’ Brown Weston Mayor

Between early morning classes, hours of homework, and late-night practices, today’s student-athletes have a lot on their plate. Add in the pressures of performance— both academic and athletic—and it’s no wonder many teens feel overwhelmed.
As a parent, you can play a key role in helping your child find balance. Teaching time management not only helps reduce stress, but it also encourages independence and personal responsibility. Here’s how you can support your teen:
1. Try the Pomodoro Method: This popular time-management strategy breaks work into focused 25-minute sessions followed by 5-minute breaks. After four sessions, take a longer break of 15–30 minutes. Apps like Focus Keeper or FocusPomo make it easy to implement.
Pro Tip: Encourage breaks that actually recharge—get outside, stretch, eat a snack, or chat with a sibling. Avoid using breaks for screen time, which can increase eye strain and mental fatigue.
2. Set SMART Goals: Help your teen set Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, and Timely goals. Instead of saying, “I need to do better in school,” reframe it to: “I’ll study biology for 30 minutes every night to raise my grade from a C to a B by next month.”
3. Plan the Week Ahead: A little Sunday planning goes a long way. Prepare snacks and lunches, lay out uniforms, and keep a well-stocked gym bag ready to grab and go. Even organizing a designated hamper for athletic clothes can reduce weekday stress.

Warning Signs of Bullying: Early Recognition is Key. Tips for Students:
• Document Incidents: Capture evidence by taking screenshots before blocking or reporting suspicious accounts. Documentation is vital for effective reporting and resolution.
• Speak Up: In the face of cyberbullying or online threats, confide in a trusted adult promptly. Avoid sharing with peers initially and seek guidance from supportive figures.
• Know Your Reporting Options: Familiarize yourself with anonymous reporting channels at your school or online platforms to discreetly address issues.
• Secure Passwords: Encourage your child to use strong, unique passwords and update them regularly to fortify account security against common breaches.
• Implement Two-Factor Authentication (2FA): Add an extra layer of protection by enabling 2FA wherever possible, enhancing security and deterring unauthorized access attempts.
• Educate and Engage: Foster open dialogues with your child about online safety, emphasizing the importance of verifying friend requests and recognizing phishing attempts
4. Time-Block the Day: Time blocking assigns specific tasks to certain parts of the day. A sample weekday schedule might look like this:
• 7:15 AM: Morning routine
• 8:00 AM–2:30 PM: School
• 3:00 PM–5:00 PM: Practice
• 6:00 PM–7:30 PM: Homework
• 9:00 PM: Bedtime
This structure creates predictability and helps teens visually manage their priorities.
5. Protect Sleep: Teens need 8–10 hours of sleep each night. Build a calming bedtime routine—think journaling, light stretching, or reading. Limit caffeine in the evening and encourage using the bed only for sleep. A comfortable, quiet bedroom can make a big difference.
6. Prioritize Mental Health: Teen life is full of pressures—from school to sports to social circles. Listen closely when your child talks about their coach, team dynamics, or feeling overwhelmed. Create an environment where mental health is taken seriously, and stigma has no place.
The Takeaway: Time management isn’t just about staying organized—it’s about creating space for balance, rest, and joy. Help your teen find that sweet spot, and you’ll be supporting their success on and off the field.

As families settle into a new school year filled with sports leagues, arts programs, and enrichment clubs, one “activity” has quietly risen from niche hobby to essential life skill: coding.
No longer just for tech enthusiasts, coding has already become a foundational skill in the AI era—as vital as reading, writing, and arithmetic. And in a world rapidly reshaped by artificial intelligence, coding is no longer just about programming computers. It’s about understanding and leading the very tools now shaping the careers—and futures—of the next generation.
AI Is Here—and It’s Reshaping Jobs: Artificial intelligence is no longer a futuristic concept. It’s already integrated into everyday tools and workflows across industries. A 2023 Goldman Sachs report found that AI could replace up to 300 million full-time jobs globally. Roles in customer service, data entry, and even parts of finance, law, and healthcare are already being automated by AI agents. The World Economic Forum estimates that by 2030, 85 million jobs may be displaced—but 97 million new tech-driven roles will be created.
What does this mean for today’s kids? They’ll need to do more than just use apps and software—they’ll need to understand how digital systems work, how to guide AI, and how to build with technology. That’s why early exposure to coding is no longer optional—it’s strategic. Jobs will increasingly ask, “Can you work with intelligent systems?” A foundation in code signals adaptability and technical fluency—whether a child becomes a software engineer, designer, doctor, or lawyer.
Coding Has Become the New Competitive Edge: Today’s coding education offers far more than just technical know-how. Research has shown it enhances problem-solving, critical thinking, creativity, and resilience. A 2022 Brookings Institution study revealed that students involved in structured coding programs scored higher in math and science and exhibited stronger collaboration skills.
And more importantly, coding empowers children. It has already turned countless kids from passive consumers of technology into active creators—able to design games, build apps, and invent solutions to real-world problems.
From the Field to the Lab: Coding as a Core Activity: Parents often struggle to balance enrichment activities, from sports and arts to academics. Sports build grit. Arts spark imagination. But today, tech fluency deserves a regular spot in that rotation—because the world our kids are stepping into demands it.
Fortunately, many coding programs have evolved to meet kids where they are— through fun, game-based, hands-on learning. Some programs blend storytelling, robotics, and game creation to make coding feel like play, even for kids as young as 5.
Leading the Future Starts Now: Tomorrow’s innovators won’t merely use AI— they’ll guide it. The goal isn’t to turn every child into a software engineer. It’s to prepare them to thrive in an AI-powered world, no matter what field they pursue. Coding has already become a form of literacy. The kids who understand it won’t just keep up—they’ll lead.
So, when you're signing your child up for basketball, dance, or art class this season, consider making room for a coding adventure too. It might just be the most future-ready investment you can make.
Wondering where to start? Code Ninjas—your child’s AI headquarters—has launched a first-of-its-kind AI Academy for ages 8–14, alongside our brand-new Robotics Academy. These groundbreaking programs build on our core coding curriculum, giving kids the ultimate trifecta of future-ready skills: Coding, AI, and Robotics. Together, they form the three pillars every child needs to thrive in tomorrow’s world. Book a free session today and discover our game-changing Academies.
At Sagemont Preparatory School, our students are empowered to engage, question, and collaborate. This year, we are proud to launch a schoolwide expansion of Harkness Discussions across all classrooms and subject areas, from preschool through 12th grade.
Harkness Discussions are a student-driven learning approach centered around a table, where each student’s voice matters. In these discussions, students actively listen, ask thoughtful questions, make connections, and build on one another’s ideas. Guided by a Sagemont Prep faculty member as a facilitator rather than a lecturer, the Harkness method cultivates critical thinking, respectful dialogue, and intellectual curiosity. Imagine sitting in a boardroom collaborating, finding common ground, and opening one’s mind to new ideas rooted in research. With this picture in mind, it is easy to visualize why the Harkness method is such a profound and exciting experience for our Sagemont Prep students. “Empowering,” “fun,“ “I get to lead,”
“My opinion matters,” and “It keeps me on my toes” are merely a few words our students use to describe the impact it has on their learning.
Over the past three years, Sagemont Prep’s Curriculum Specialists have trained our faculty at the high school level for classroom implementation of the Harkness model. This year marks an exciting next chapter as we continue to deepen our commitment to innovative, real-world learning by embedding this model from preschool through 12th grade.
Harkness is not just a discussion method; it is a mindset that nurtures intellectual curiosity, analytical thinking, collaboration, responsible risk-taking, reflection, confidence, and character.
As we welcome our Sagemont Prep Lions to campus for another incredible year, we are excited to continue our meaningful journey with students focused on real-world learning, application, thoughtful dialogue, and innovation.

KUMON MATH AND READING CENTER
Weston-Saddle Club Road. Kumon is the best learning program ever developed, and very different from your child’s regular school experience because of 4 pillars that guide us with each student: 1. individually designed learning; 2. learning challenges that advance exactly in line with your student’s timing; 3. learning by doing, not listening; 4. instructors who support, students who think. Consider how different these pillars are from the passive experience your child has in a class of 30 students. Your child’s special gifts and talents, and even your child’s individual needs, can get lost in a class of 30. But not at Kumon!! That’s why Kumon is cherished in almost 60 countries. And why it consistently generates accelerated learning for students from any starting point, to beyond class-level! The Kumon Math Program is a comprehensive curriculum that develops the necessary skills to help children progress from counting through calculus. The Kumon Reading Program begins with basic phonics and progresses all the way through advanced reading comprehension. Please stop by and visit us! Schedule a free, no-obligation evaluation. Gearing Up for 2025-2026: We’re excited to announce that our 2025-2026 school theme is “Climb Higher, Roar Louder!” It is a call for both students and staff to rise to new heights in achievement, attitude, and success! As we prepare for a strong start, we’re thrilled to welcome several new staff members to the Tequesta family, including a new seventh grade Assistant Principal, Ms. Lopez, who comes with years of education experience. We can’t wait to see the talents and positive energy they bring to our school community. Students will also notice some exciting updates around campus, including new artwork in the TTMS cafeteria that we know our Cougars will love!
The first day of school for the 2025-2026 school year is Monday, August 11, 2025.
Tequesta Trace Middle School’s new hours will be from 9:10 AM to 3:50 PM. As we prepare for a strong start to the school year, families should be aware of important updates regarding student meals. Breakfast will continue to be provided free of charge for all students. However, lunch will no longer be universally free. Parents and guardians are encouraged to complete the Meal Benefits Application to determine eligibility for free or reduced-price lunch. Students who qualify for reduced lunch will pay $0.40, while the full price for lunch is $3.35.
Who’s Your One? This year, Tequesta Trace Middle School has launched a meaningful new campaign aimed at supporting the social and emotional wellbeing of our incoming 6th grade students. The initiative encourages each student to identify at least one trusted staff member they can turn to throughout the school
year for guidance, support, or simply a listening ear. In a world that is constantly evolving and with a growing emphasis on mental health, our staff understands the importance of helping students build strong connections with the caring adults around them. Learning how to seek help, build trust, and lean on positive role models is an essential part of navigating the middle school experience.
We introduced this initiative during our annual Cougar Walk event on July 31, 2025. During the event, incoming 6th graders had the opportunity to meet staff members, explore their new campus, and get a glimpse of what middle school life will be like. This campaign won’t end after orientation, students will continue to engage with this initiative throughout the school year. Our goal is to foster a supportive, connected school community where students feel safe, seen, and empowered to thrive both academically and emotionally.
Stay Connected: Stay connected with all the exciting happenings at Tequesta Trace Middle School! Follow us on Instagram @tequestatracemiddle and on X (Twitter) @TequestaTracePrincipal and @TTMS_APHenry for important updates, fun posts, and a glimpse into daily life at Tequesta.
We’re looking forward to Climbing Higher this school year alongside our incredible community of stakeholders, staff, parents, and students. Get ready to ROAR! It’s going to be an amazing year!
Tequesta Trace Middle School. Roberto Rivera Principal. 1800 Indian Trace, Weston FL 33326.
As the 2025–2026 school year begins, Imagine Weston is celebrating not just a fresh start — but an incredible double honor that reflects the heart and hard work of our entire school community.
We are proud to announce that Imagine Weston has officially received an “A” school grade, and has also been named National School of the Year by Imagine Schools — the second time we’ve earned this national recognition in just three years!
These achievements are no accident. They are the result of our unwavering commitment to excellence in every corner of our school. From the classroom to the front office, from teachers and staff to families and students, every member of our community played a role in this success.
Receiving an “A” grade is a direct reflection of the high standards we hold ourselves to. It demonstrates strong student performance, instructional quality, and our alignment with academic expectations at the district and state level. But it also represents something more: the shared belief that every child deserves a
high-quality education in a nurturing, values-driven environment.
Throughout the year, our school underwent critical evaluations, including charter renewal, accreditation, and compliance checks — and we not only met expectations, we excelled. Upholding our values in the face of these important reviews was no small task, and every teacher, administrator, support staff member, and family helped make it possible.
Principal Mr. Berkowitz shared, “These awards represent more than just data points, they show the strength of our Imagine Weston family. We hold high expectations, support one another, and believe in what we do. That’s what makes us exceptional.”
These milestones mark a proud moment in Imagine Weston’s story — but we know the work doesn’t stop here. n celebration of Children’s Day (Dia de Los Niños), Indian Trace Elementary School hosted a heartwarming event that brought together students past and present for a shared love of reading and language. For the second year in a row, former Indian Trace students—now 8th graders from Tequesta Trace Middle School—returned to their elementary school to read to current students in a very special way.
The visiting students are all part of the Dual Language program, and they came prepared to share a bilingual reading of The Bossy Gallito, a colorful and lively folktale written in both English and Spanish. The younger students were captivated by the story and the presence of the “big kids” who once walked the same halls. Seeing older students confidently read in two languages offered a powerful example of growth and learning in action.
The excitement was evident throughout the school. This activity not only celebrated literacy and cultural heritage but also strengthened the bond between schools in the community. It gave the younger children a chance to see positive role models who reflect their own experiences and inspire them to continue their educational journey with pride.
At the end of the event, the middle school students were recognized for their participation with a goody bag and a certificate, a small token of appreciation for their time, effort, and the positive impact they made.
We are proud to continue this meaningful tradition at Indian Trace Elementary, and we look forward to watching our students grow, return, and inspire the next generation.

GREENTREE PREP CHARTER (GTP), is the hidden gem in Southwest Ranches and is looking to enroll students who want to learn in a gifted learning environment. The school celebrates 12 years of academic excellence and has been named Best Charter school in the community for three years in a row.
GTP began operations in August 2013 and since then, has received outstanding marks in education from the state. “The school’s commitment to excellence in academics and our teachers’ desire to teach BEYOND the STANDARDS, are our greatest assets.” says E. Gonzalez, the school’s founder and Director.
After completing its first year, GTP was recognized as a high performing charter school, and received honorable mention for ranking TOP 3 schools in BROWARD COUNTY for Language Arts. The following year, Greentree Prep was recognized by Governor Rick Scott in the Top 10% category of high performing schools out of 3,265 schools in the State of Florida, was ranked TOP 6th school in Broward County and ranked 22nd out of 514 Charter schools in the state.
The school is a K-8 public charter school and has a 100% passing rate in Civics and Algebra in statewide assessments, with the majority of the students scoring
above the state and national average scores in mathematics and language arts. Every year, we are proud to salute students who receive top scores in the state scoring “5” in core subject areas. This is attributed to the philosophy and style of teaching used at the school. Students graduating from 8th grade and entering high school, have ranked top of their class in Math and Language Arts in their respective high schools. Parents attribute this success to the academic foundation they received at Greentree Prep Charter School.
The school has a high percentage of High Achievers and Gifted Students and students who want to learn in a gifted environment. With an enrollment of no more than 350 students, every student is a valued member of the school’s community.
The 5-acre campus is located at 6301 SW 160th Avenue, SW Ranches 33331. Register your child at Greentree Prep Charter School, a free, public school of choice, with high academic standards for students who want to learn in a gifted environment.
