SPEPERMIANBASINSECTION

Matthew Farris Regional Sales Manager, Patina Energy
As time passes, and as we all get a little older, it often feels like each season comes and goes faster than the last. I find myself writing these letters seemingly every other week!
Welcome to November a month full of excitement for many reasons. The holiday season is upon us, with Thanksgiving marking the official start. But before diving into that, I’d like to revisit a familiar theme one more time (no promises): baseball.
Much like the ongoing offseason for many MLB organizations, this month brings significant transition and restructuring across our industry. In just a few days, ConocoPhillips will officially execute its long-anticipated organizational restructuring, streamlining its structure. Many of us will undoubtedly feel the ripple effects. For my colleagues directly affected in the middle of this month, I wish you great success in your new ventures.
Elsewhere across the basin, there have been several unrelated management changes, and time will tell how these shifts take shape. As is often the case, some companies are expanding while others are strategically “rightsizing.” It’s fascinating to watch the continual evolution of our industry.
On another note, I recently had the privilege of attending theAnnual Technical Conference and Exhibition (ATCE) in Houston, where I represented our section at the SPE North America Officers’Meeting. If you’ve been attending SPE conferences over the past decade, you’ve likely noticed how the tone and focus of each event have evolved. Today, the Hydraulic Fracturing Technology Conference (HFTC) appears to be the preferred event for many engineers particularly for those whose budgets only allow attendance at one conference per year.
That said,ATCE still provides meaningful value. During the officers’meeting, we learned of several upcoming changes within SPE International that align with broader industry trends. Some programs will be temporarily paused while they are evaluated across new performance metrics. Fortunately, none of the programs subject to review will directly affect our local programming here in the basin.
Our own SPE Permian Basin Section Board of Directors continues to evaluate how we can best deliver value to you, our members. If there’s one thing that keeps me up at night, it’s ensuring we evolve alongside how our membership consumes technical information so that we remain relevant and beneficial.

CHAIRMAN’S CORNER
One new initiative we’re excited to introduce is theAnnual SPE Permian Basin Sponsorship Campaign. With sensitivity to the changing economic environment, this program will streamline sponsorship opportunities and create a more sustainable model for supporting our section’s events and initiatives. Details are being finalized, and we look forward to launching this campaign in the coming month.
Looking ahead, November promises several exciting events:
· Daniel Energy Partners Barbecue (Nov 11–12): This invitation-only event is one of the most enjoyable networking opportunities of the year. The first evening offers a great chance to connect with industry peers in a relaxed atmosphere, while the second day brings live music, good food, and great company a true celebration of our industry community.
· Permian Basin Energy Conference (Nov 18–20): This event offers exceptional technical talks and panel discussions tailored to our basin. It consistently delivers cutting-edge insights and comprehensive studies making it one of the most valuable conferences of the year.
As Thanksgiving approaches, I’m reminded of how fortunate we are both personally and professionally. I’m grateful for my health, my amazing wifeAlexa, and our growing family of soon-to-be three children who bring endless joy and energy to our lives. I’m also thankful for the opportunities that continue to flourish in the Permian Basin, for the talented professionals who define our community, and for the honor of serving as your Chairman with such a committed and capable Board.
Please take a minute to reflect on this question: what are you thankful for?
Stay Connected: Be sure to mark your calendars for the upcoming events and take advantage of these valuable networking and learning opportunities. More details on our events calendar are coming soon!
Warm regards,

Matthew Farris

The two and ½- day agendas are now posted on the website (CO2Conference.net). Many distinguished speakers are coming to the downtown Midland Bush Center from a several States to illustrate the rapidly growing activity related to CO2 capture, new CO2 pipelines, and geological storage.
Two highlighted panels (from North Dakota and Wyoming) will illustrate what their respective States have dome and are continuing to do that encourage utilization of industrially captured CO2 emissions. Cyclic injection into horizontal wells and into mature water floods will be addressed as it progresses in a couple of States.
Texas and Louisiana speakers will show how the projects are being economically driven by both oil production and qualification for the newly revised Federal tax credits. How deals are being constructed will be outlined in some details by deal makers from Washington and Houston.
Several speakers will highlight how the new AI data centers will impact electricity needs which is likely to spur natural gas generation and plant emissions capture. The Permian Basin is finding itself in the midst of many of those project planners. The Monday (Dec 8th) field trip will feature two of those near billion dollar projects already under construction in Ector County.
Go to www.co2conference.net for more information and to register. The hype you may have heard about CO2 capture from emission sources has moved on to real projects. This conference is an opportunity not to miss.
