CHAIRMAN’S CORNER
Dear SPE Members,

SPE-PB Chairman 2024-2025
Here in April with the arrival of spring weather, we are reminded of the revitalized energy we garner as we transi on from the cold of winter and West Texas windy days to the warmth and blossoming of spring. This me of season, in many ways, characterized by the resurgence of plant life, symbolizes the poten al for growth in both our professional and personal lives.
When I think of spring, I think of "Spring into Ac on.” And that’s exactly what SPE Permian Basin is doing in April. Before I talk about the exci ng events, we have planned for the month of April I would like to send a special thank you to our Regional Director Carlos Torres as he visited the Permian in March for our Dis nguished Lecture Series for the General Sec on Mee ng. Due to a family emergency, I was unable to a end. However, I have been informed that the event was excep onal. We thank him for his support for SPE and will see him back in the Permian for the Awards Banquet in April.
We have a lot to be excited for in the month of April. Our Reservoir Study Group will be hos ng a session on April 10th Rethinking Shaly-Sand Beliefs: Reconciling Paul Worthington’s Model with Waxman-Smits and Dual Water. The event will be held at the Conoco Phillips office. On April 11th we have our annual SPE PERMIAN BASIN SPRING 2025 CLAY SHOOT! Come out to support our scholarship fund! April 15th will be our General Sec on Mee ng hos ng. April 24th is Earth Day, and our community rela ons team will be having an event to support having Earth Day Community Clean Up. Our Data Analy cs Study Group will be hos ng “Machine Learning for Reservoir Insights: Predic ng Satura on and Decline Curves.” On April 24th at the Conoco Phillips office.
We are pleased to announce that the Southwestern Regional Awards Banquet will be held on April 30th. The event will host numerous high school and college students, families, industry professionals, SPE members, community leaders, as well as dis nguished guests including SPE Interna onal Representa ves, SPE Regional Director Carlos Torres, and SPE Chief Execu ve Officer Simon Seaton. During the banquet a variety of regional awards will be presented to recipients and students will be receiving scholarships to help fuel the next genera on of oil and gas professionals!

A 2025-I 239
I am very excited for the month of April. This no on of renewal and proac ve engagement resonates deeply with me, especially given the recent selec on of our new incoming board members, posted on pg. 12. Our next term is near and we are excited about the next group of leaders for SPE Permian Basin. Speaking of future leaders, I recently had the opportunity to mentor students at the University of Texas of the Permian Basin (UTPB). During this mentoring session, I assisted students with resume reviews, provided career advice, and helped them set achievable goals. As a former UTPB student I remember imagining what it would be like to be an engineer. All the amazing possibili es, and then it came true! Life is very rewarding when you get goals for yourself and relentlessly pursue your dreams. In the working world and in school, investments must be made to succeed.
CHAIRMAN’S CORNER
I like how Deion Sanders said it when asked to advise on what to do with money. “You got to bet on you. I’m not a gambler; I don’t play with money of that nature…but every now and then I put money on 21 black. That’s just an analogy, meaning that was my number in football. That just means I’m a bet on me. I’m going to believe in me, because I know what I have inside me regardless of what you think…So my advice to you is bet on yourself.” This speech replays in my head every day. Growing up I loved the game of basketball, and I played High School basketball for Ft. Stockton. Our team colors were blue, and my number was 22. So, every day I think about Deion’s speech, and I put my money on 22 Blue. This month I want to encourage you take that dream you have and bet on you, invest in you. One great way to start is SPE. Don’t just be a member, par cipate. We encourage you to get involved and be part of the Pasion for the Permian Basin.
Spring is a me of change, and it provides a perfect backdrop for us to reflect on our goals and strategies. Just as nature undergoes a transforma on, we too must be adaptable and open to new opportuni es. The oil and gas industry are ever evolving, and staying ahead requires a willingness to embrace innova on and change. We welcome you to our next event and can’t wait to see how your investment pays out.
Thank you,
Chairman of the Board of Directors
