SUMMIT EMPLOYEE SPOTLIGHT
POSITIVE LEADERSHIP
“On behalf of Summit’s Leadership Team, I want to thank each and every employee for an outstanding 2023! Gratitude and appreciation for your dedication to the company and commitment to excellence!”
I often reflect on the “forks in the road” and the decisions that I made that led me to Summit Polymers. It has been an interesting path, but one that I would not change if I had to do it over again. As a teenager you could always find me in the garage, working with dad on something. I was not much for video games, TV, or reading books. Working on cars, building something, or tearing something apart was what I enjoyed. In high school I started taking machine tool classes and really enjoyed that path.
I continued on to take vocational classes at Lansing Community College where I completed my apprenticeship classes and earned my Journeyman Certificate as a Tool Maker while working at a Tool Shop. I later worked for another Tooling/Manufacturing company in Vicksburg where I managed the Tool Room and Engineering Department. From there, I launched into my career at Summit Polymers.
My journey with Summit started 25 years ago when I accepted a job at P8 – Vicksburg, Michigan as a Tooling ME. Over the past 25 years I have had the good fortune to work at all of our U.S. Plants and the Tech Center. The first 8 years I spent at P8 I was a Manufacturing Engineer, Engineering Manager, and Manufacturing Manager. My next role at Summit led me to P2 – Valley Plant—Portage, Michigan, as the General Manager. I spent 3 years at the Valley Plant before moving to P3 – Syntech Plant— Sturgis, Michigan, as the General Manager where I spent 8 years. Following my Sturgis assignment, I moved to P1 – Portage, Michigan, as General Manager. After 2 years at P1, I moved into the Regional Director of Manufacturing role and for the past 3 years I have been the Vice President of Manufacturing.
My wife Tina and I have 2 boys, Tyler and Ryan. Tina and I are now empty nesters as the boys are off to college. In my spare time, I enjoy almost everything outdoors. I enjoy spending time on the lake fishing, boating, camping, hunting, hiking, four wheeling, working on projects around the house; and my winter passion is snowmobiling. Tina and I enjoy traveling and exploring the US National Parks System that our great country offers.
Each year brings new challenges, but through it all I am fortunate to work with so many outstanding teammates. You are the best! You make my job amazing! As we move into 2024 there will be new opportunities for improvement and I look forward to each of us rising to the challenge. If we continue to work together and collaborate, our outstanding work will ensure Summit Polymers is successful.
