The Allegro Foundation’s 2024 Fundraiser For Kids With Disabilities

On Saturday, March 23, 2024, at Quail Hollow Club, the Allegro Foundation and its Board of Directors joined Mr Felix Sabates, host of the 14th Annual Ambassador’s Ball, for an elegant evening to benefit Allegro’s children living with disabilities.

Allegro honored Her Excellency Petra Schneebauer, Ambassador of Austria to the United States. Top sponsors of the event included Ally Financial, Domtar, Atrium Health Foundation, CPI Security, Hendrick Automotive, SteelFab Inc., and many more.

All proceeds from the Ambassador’s Ball go directly to Allegro’s FREE movement education programs for more than 800 children with disabilities throughout the Charlotte area. Additionally, funds raised will assist Allegro with expansion to reach a greater number of the more than 17,000 disabled children in the Charlotte area, giving them the opportunity to show what children living with disabilities can do.

Allegro is a 501 (c) Charlotte-based non-profit organization that combines movement instruction with medical and educational expertise, creating new techniques to teach children with disabilities and help enhance their quality of life. UNCF Charlotte Celebrates Its Masked Ball’s 10th Anniversary

The 10th Anniversary UNCF Charlotte Mayor’s Masked Ball, a premier fundraising gala and major social event held each year in Charlotte, was held on March 23, 2024 at the Charlotte Convention Center. Guests celebrated while dining and dancing during this must attend, fun-filled black-tie sneaker event which focused on raising awareness about the needs and benefits of a college education in our community. This event supports UNCF’s mission to invest in the future of young men and women by getting them to and through college. UNCF contributes to historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs) across North Carolina and helps to serve their students’ needs.

Each year UNCF recognizes outstanding persons for their contributions and achievements. This year’s honorees included Grammy Award winner Singer, Songwriter and Actress Fantasia Barrino Taylor; Charlotte Hornets Sports and Entertainment Immediate Past President and Vice Chair Fred Whitfield; Carolina Panthers and Charlotte Football Club owners Nicole and David Tepper; and Artist, DJ and Philantropist Derrick T Jones aka ‘D-Nice. Lisbon, Portugal IS A FANTASTIC PLACE TO VISIT

A friend of the magazine has transplanted his family to Lisbon while he works on a special project in Portugal. He suggested we visit him there before his project ends and we welcomed the opportunity!

After living there for a while now, Rory knows all the hot spots so we felt privileged to visit without feeling totally like tourists. We’re excited to share our experience with you so you’ll know before you go if you decide to visit this beautiful place on the other side of the Atlantic. It is a highly recommended vacation spot. We can’t wait to go back!

plus lovely shops as you stroll by. The hotel is positioned in a great location for being close to everything. It has high standards and has received great reviews. It did not disappoint! We were pleased with every moment we spent there, especially ending our nights with drinks in the hotel’s rooftop bar overlooking the city’s panoramic urban views.

Since we were only visiting for five days, we needed to plan carefully and maximize our time during our stay. Our list included plans to visit the most interesting cultural sites including the Berardo with its Collection of Modern and Contemporary Art and the most spectacular Museum of Art, Architecture and Technology. We spent less time in the Gulbenkian Museum but thoroughly enjoyed the more traditional, iconic, ancient, and historic works of art exhibiting Egyptian and European cultures. Our other highlight was a visit to

Sintra to enjoy a very different atmosphere and architectural experience.

We also scheduled time for necessary shopping. We discovered very chic, fashionable boutiques by Prada, Miu Miu, Longchamp, Armani, Burberry, Michael Kors, Svaworski, Max Mara, Hugo Boss and many others including local designer brands, and the gift shops were interesting too. A day of shopping is a great day in life! I had to control myself and remember that I had no extra room in my luggage for carrying extra items back home.

The quality of life in Lisbon is exceptional. There are many American transplants living in Lisbon, have residences there, and spend lots of time in the vibrant city. While visiting Rory in his neighborhood, we enjoyed a sighting of Scarlett Johansson who has a condo in the area. She appeared very relaxed and so pleased to be there.

Of course, we had to try all the best restaurants with notable food and drinks. The pastries and seafood dishes were our favorites. We started our nightlife early each evening with soothing food and drinks in friendly restaurants and bars, listening to all genres of music in clubs, especially jazz, and taking our chances in the casinos when feeling lucky.

Our last day was intentionally set aside for visiting the coast and relaxing on a sailboat

cruise with a great DJ and thoughts of preparing for our journey back home. In all parts of Lisbon, we were entertained and inspired by its people but even more so on the coast. It was so enlightening to watch the sailboats go by and just enjoy watching people have fun and appreciating life. We absorbed the last moments of our adventurous experiences with pleased anticipation for our return home and with plans to visit Lisbon again soon one day.
