Providence Gallery Displays Distinctive Fine Art

Paul Simon has been a creator and provider of elegance, luxury, and style in fashion with unmatched personalized service for Charlotte’s modern individuals at Paul Simon stores for 50 years. In the same way that he has built upon his legacy by curating fashionable collections, he is now delivering the same dedication to quality in a selection of oil paintings that he is introducing into Charlotte’s art world and philanthropic theme. Paul has been expressing his love for painting by creating works of art with beautiful themes, especially landscapes featuring trees in recent years.

Photography:

Paul’s current collection can be seen at Providence Gallery and Frames, located at 601-A Providence Road, at an opening reception being held on March 7, 2025, from 6:00 - 9:00 pm. Proceeds from this event, titled, ‘Leaves for Literacy’, will support the Augustine Literacy Project-Charlotte (ALP) which is a non-profit organization committed to help improve the reading, writing, and spelling skills of young, aspiring readers in under-resourced communities by providing free, long-term, one on one instruction from highly trained tutors. Paul Simon Co. supports ALP along with many other non-profits. Paul is committed to community service. He believes that his company’s success is indebted to the incredible support of the Charlotte community. The company selects causes that resonate with the company, its customers, and supports initiatives close to the company’s heart.

Providence Gallery and Frames is the perfect match for displaying Paul’s works since like Paul Simon stores, the Gallery is a long-standing asset in the Charlotte community. Since opening its doors in 1978, Providence Gallery has established an unparalleled reputation for offering a stellar combination of custom framing and an extensive selection of distinctive fine art. The gallery represents more than 25 painters who have earned acclaim for their work on a regional, national, and international level.

Providence Gallery is always expanding its inventory of artwork to include subject matter in every genre and medium and continues to offer an evolving selection of artwork for residential and corporate design.

Owner Deborah Campbell Bass has almost 50 years of experience in framing and design. The gallery offers custom framing options perfect for family

photos and works of art as well as cherished mementos and collectibles.

Rod Wimer, former manager at Providence Gallery, is one of the most talented and diverse fine artist with works in the gallery. Rod enjoys the journey of creating abstract and contemporary figurative paintings with multiple mediums and the infusion of collaged elements. Working on substrates of wood panel, canvas, and paper, he builds multi-layered works with paint, graphite, colored pencils, and oil sticks. Much of his work includes the use of handmade papers, wood, dirt, fabrics, and found objects.

Born in 1960, Rod was adopted by missionary parents, and most of his formative years were spent in the Central African Republic. Largely ignored by the rest of the world, and ruled by then dictator Jean Bedel Bokassa, this poverty-stricken country in

the center of the African continent was where Rod first discovered his love of creative expression. The African culture, with its unique design aesthetic, exotic wildlife, and visionary landscapes are all continuing influences in this artist’s ongoing exploration of his works.

After Africa, Rod spent several years in Hawaii. Lush island landscapes, tropical fish and flowers, and vast horizons of azure sea and sky further developed his passion for texture and color. You can see his collection of exotic tropical fish currently on display at Providence Gallery.

Rod currently lives in Charlotte. In addition, to his art being seen in Providence Gallery, his art is found in both private and corporate collections across the continental United States, as well as Hawaii, Canada, Great Britain, France, Ireland, and the Netherlands.

Fiore Restaurant has been transformed into C & W Steakhouse, Ballantyne’s very first steakhouse! The exciting evolution not only reflects owners Sharon Conklin’s and Dean White’s dedication to providing exceptional service, but also enhances the commitment to quality dining experiences. The mother/son ownership team decided to bring a new form of entertainment and dining to Charlotte with Fiore. They did a lot of research to find a niche that would set them apart from other restaurants and offer a uniqueness not found anywhere else in our city. They discovered an antique bar in Chicago that would work perfectly to create a Chicago-style adult venue. They shipped it to their Ballantyne location and had it rebuilt and refinished to fit perfectly into their space. Then last year, they realized that there was a missing piece in the entertainment and dining landscape in Ballantyne, and that’s when they recreated their already fabulous restaurant into an even more exciting venue now known as C & W Steakhouse.

The ambience of the venue invites you into a place brimming with friendly warmth for celebrating a remarkable chapter of culinary excellence. Once inside you’ll want to stay a while to indulge in the delightful offerings that await you.

The award-winning, chef-designed menu has been thoughtfully curated based on invaluable customer feedback, showcasing an array of exquisite steaks and delectable dishes. Meals are all crafted with the utmost care to tantalize the palate. Seasonal items and special cuts are generously offered.

Experienced bartenders and mixologists create some of the best drinks and beverages found in the Ballantyne area. They explore unique drinks that they love, sharing them with their patrons. With their forever-changing list of local spirits, they have everything you need to have a great night out. They’ve mastered the art of making drinks that not only taste good but will keep you fascinated while they are being made and as they come to life. The crew has carefully curated a list of drinks that leave your mouth buzzing with layers of flavor. The bar offers traditional bourbons, classic old fashioneds made from the finest whiskies, cocktails, margaritas, an extensive beer selection. Their wine storage is heavily stocked with some of the finest bottles in Charlotte. Outside seating is perfect for enjoying drinks, cigars and laughter.

Cozy Post-Winter Get-Away A Short Distance,

Photography by Hotel Hartness

he approaching end of winter excites us and may press us to plan a trip soon to give us a change in scenery and routine. You may choose not to travel to a far-away destination by plane but prefer instead to just enjoy a quick road trip.

We’ve discovered a new, easy get-away that will delight all your senses. The Hotel Hartness, located in Greenville, SC has been reimagined as a destination for luxurious accommodations with resort-style amenities and elevated dining and entertaining indoors and outdoors.

The hotel is located in a tranquil natural retreat minutes from downtown Greenville and is managed by Hay Creek Hotels. The property is a South Carolina destination unlike any other in the upstate. The Hartness Hotel sits on land where a grand family home once sat amongst rolling pastures, sparkling lakes, flowing creeks, and lushly canopied woodlands. It features 73 guest rooms and suites, as well as its Patterson Kitchen plus Bar, the intimate Captain bar, and other dining areas with elevated foods and drinks. Breakfast is included with each night’s stay. Relaxation is the common theme throughout. Even the fitness area, Spa H »

and a couples spa beckon you into a unique calmness. The designs, furnishings and decor throughout encourage peace and mindfulness.

The family’s upstate roots date back to 1940 when entrepreneur Tom Hartness purchased the Pepsi-bottling rights in Greenville, resulting in a packaging business and to the family’s home for residing on the sprawling unspoiled land that now serves as the canvas for the Hartness community. The winding walking trails are challenging yet delightful. The historic Hartness family estate incorporates the family’s history and original home which draws on the spirit and culture of its location in Greenville and on the family’s estate. The property is in proximity to downtown Greenville and not far from the Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport.

Hotel Hartness can be the perfect backdrop for creating cherished memories as a romantic get-away or when families gather for traditional events like family reunions,

birthdays and other celebrations. It can also create great opportunities for special group events with friends and even with business associates. The indoor/outdoor spaces at the hotel are wonderful for weddings and other social events.

In 2024 Travel and Leisure magazine named the Hartness Hotel as the Best #1 in South Carolina, #3 in the US and #24 worldwide.

The property is nestled within the awardwinning Hartness urban village founded by the Hartness family on its 482-acre estate boasting views of the Blue Ridge Mountain skyline, a 180-acre nature preserve, and an onsite farm.

> You’ll enjoy a visit to Hotel Hartness, 120 Halston Avenue, Greenville, SC 29615. Visit online at hotelhartness.com and dial 864.686.8900 for direct reservations.
