It’s a beautiful time of year and it’s time to let the sun in! The Spring season is here, and everyone is delighted to open their windows and let the sun into their homes. Window treatments compliment the gateway from your home’s indoors to the outdoors so it may be time to assess the accessories that compliment your view to the outside.
The team at Curtains and Company is ready to help you select the best options for your windows. Whether you’re moving into a new home or renovating the look of the
windows in your current home, they can help you make the best decisions for complementing your windows. There are so many choices, and it can be overwhelming, but Curtains and Company can steer you in the right direction. Rather than blowing your mind, their team will help you consider all the pros and cons for selecting the right drapes, shades, blinds or shutters.
Located at 9433 Pineville-Matthews Rd, Pineville, NC 28134, Curtains & Company is the realization of a dream by owners Marian Hayes and Anthony Blevins. Between them, the two have 50
years of retail experience and are experts in design, marketing and merchandising.
Recognizing a need to meet consumer demand for high-quality window treatments to match every budget and each client’s tastes and lifestyle, they decided to manufacture and sell handcrafted window treatments in a wide variety of styles. With this mission in mind, they opened the Curtains and Company store in 2005.
Their expert in-store design team assists customers with choosing from the hundreds of handmade fabrics onsite and creating custom window treatments or selecting the perfect choice of
ready-made panels and valances available for purchase. In addition to window treatments, Curtains and Company carries coordinating pillows, bedding selections and accessories to complete your home’s designs.
Curtains and Company carries a wide assortment of Hunter Douglas products
including sheer, cellular, roman, roller, woven and vertical shades. There are mawood, metal and vertical blinds and shutters to add even more drama to your windows. Hunter Douglas products have the latest features for light enhancement, room darkening, energy efficiency, door coverings, sound absorption, top-down, bottom-up and with high-technology and remote controls.
During the warm summer season, there are often concerns about keeping the thermostat setting just right for maintaining comfortable temperatures while being mindful of rising energy costs. One way you can make your home more enjoyable during the summer is by analyzing your window treatment selections and how they can impact the cooling or heat reduction factor. Curtains in cool custom fabrics, sheers, shades, blinds and shutters can all have a positive impact with the right selections. The team at Curtains and Company has the right answers for you to consider.

Jackie Smith Judge has become a superstar realtor in the Charlotte market. She is ranked in the top 1% of Charlotte regional realtors, ranking #120 out of over 17,000 Charlotte area agents. She holds the distinction of being #1 in real estate sales in all of Mecklenburg in 2024 and for closing the #1 sale for 2024 in all RE/MAX Executive offices in NC and SC. Jackie’s team at Charlotte Finest Properties received the Diamond Award from RE/MAX for an incredible 2024 with record breaking sales in multiple neighborhoods in Charlotte.
If you’re in the market for buying a home, then Jackie and her team are some of the best deal makers to maybe make it work for you. Jackie recently sat down with leading mortgage broker Lee Froneberger with American Security Mortgage during one of his social media interviews to share with him her insights on the current state of the Charlotte area’s real estate market and we tuned in to listen. During the interview she admitted that 2025 started off hot for her and her team. She said the market has been more like it was in 2021-2023
with multiple offers and creative buying methods prevailing. The biggest challenges for buyers have been the competitive nature of the market but Jackie and her team are most prepared to help buyers compete. Buyers need to be committed to working with a knowledgeable agent like Jackie, who can assist with getting the deal done the right way and as soon as possible. In addition to her extensive level of experience, Jackie leverages her relationships with more senior, seasoned, experienced associates for guidance in
tough situations and in every aspect while working with buyers.
Experienced brokers like Jackie can help buyers confirm their most important wants and needs when selecting the right house. Buyers need to know what kind of home they are looking for. Today, most buyers are concerned about a home’s location and must decide whether they prefer being in the city, accessible to the city or further out into the suburbs.
With new construction popping up everywhere, buyers can choose a newly
constructed home; however, some buyers may choose a home in need of renovations or may decide that a move in ready existing home is best for them. Move in ready homes attract the most attention once listed and will generally sell the fastest so the buyer will need to be prepared to make an offer quick. The biggest mistake some buyers make is not being ready to make an offer when the right house is found.
Price points can be an important determining factor as well with a home selection. Other important deciding factors include the right amount of indoor and outdoor space, and the special amenities preferred for their family to enjoy. A feeling of community and quality of neighborhood living are also very important these days.
Once the buyer has made a decision about the ideal type of home that they are looking for then they must be ready to go fast with delivering their best offer once they find it. Everything related to securing a mortgage must be in place so there are no surprises. Jackie says that working with a professional mortgage broker can give buyers more confidence and help them be ready to move quickly. Preparation and an early pre-approval are key to being ready to make an offer and having the offer more likely to be accepted. It takes a team effort for the best results and a smooth process to get a deal done and completed. Jackie and a great mortgage lender can be the perfect team for successfully helping buyers get to the finish line with the right home purchase.
Jackie is an expert at working with sellers, too! If you’re thinking of selling your home this year, then she is a superb realtor to help you prepare your home for sale and place your listing in an ideal position for the quickest and best sales result possible.

For many, the joy of Italian food isn’t just about the meal—it’s about the experience. The rich aromas of simmering sauces, the sight of fresh-cut meats and cheeses, the warmth of a kitchen filled with laughter and tradition. That’s exactly what Enzo’s Italian Market brings to the Carolinas—a place where authentic Italian flavors, family recipes, and a love of good food come together under one roof.
The story of Enzo’s begins with Vincenzo (“Enzo”) LoRe, a Sicilian-born food lover who made his way to New York from Palermo at a young age. He honed his craft as a butcher and eventually owned an Italian pork store in Glendale, NY. In 2008, Enzo relocated to Charlotte, NC, bringing his knowledge, passion, and family recipes with him. By 2009, he had established Enzo’s Italian Market in Stallings, NC, offering the community fresh meats, homemade Italian sausages, limited assortment of prepared foods, baked goods, and a small selection of imported specialty products.
For years, Enzo’s became the go-to destination for authentic Italian flavors. When Enzo encountered a terminal illness in 2021, his dear friend and longtime customer, Gregory Tigani, stepped in to continue Enzo’s legacy. Tigani officially took over the business in early 2022, expanding its offerings, increasing in-house prepared foods, and elevating Enzo’s visibility as an essential Italian food destination. Enzo remained Tigani’s consigliere until his passing in January 2023, leaving behind a rich culinary legacy that Tigani proudly carries forward.
Under Tigani’s leadership, Enzo’s is scaling up, with a business model designed to bring authentic Italian markets to established and up-and-coming communities across the Carolinas.
In 2023, Enzo’s Italian Market opened its second location in historic downtown Lancaster, SC, choosing the site for its growing population and strong community ties. Positioned along Main Street (Highway 521), this location is easily accessible to customers from Indian Land, Fort Mill, Rock Hill, Waxhaw, and beyond.
And the expansion doesn’t stop there, the biggest Enzo’s yet is on the way! By the summer of 2025, Enzo’s will open its third location, “Matthews Station” in the heart of downtown Matthews NC. The Matthews Station location that will bring together the best of Italian food, culture, and tradition in an all-in-one culinary experience, a virtual Italian Emporium under one roof!
• A full-service Italian market stocked with high-quality ingredients including fresh produce, imported Italian goods and products, specialty offerings and more.
• A sit-down Osteria for dining, featuring Chef Rita as the Executive Chef.
• A separate Wine Bar offering fine Italian wines, “cellos”, and antipasto
• A traditional Italian butchery with prime cut meats and specialty offerings
• A patisserie and bakery featuring fresh Italian dolce, sweets, Italian pastries, and a variety of breads, that will include, semolina, focaccia, ciabatta, Tuscan, NY style bagels, just to name a few.
• A café with espresso, gelato, roman style pizza, select Italian “hero” sandwiches, grab-and-go breakfast items and treats
At Matthews Station, customers won’t just shop—they’ll eat, learn, and experience the heart of Italian culture.
Step inside Enzo’s, and you’re immediately transported to an authentic Italian market—filled with the sights, smells, and flavors of Italy. Enzo’s prides itself on offering a carefully curated selection of unique Italian products that can be hard to find elsewhere in Charlotte.
Signature Specialties Include:
• Fresh-cut meats and New York-style Italian pinwheel and traditional sausages
• Prepared specialties like chicken cutlets scallopini style, Sicilian arancini, porchetta roasts, veal chops, pork & beef braciole
• Homemade soups, sauces, and meatballs—including Enzo’s famous “meat gravy”
• Take-and-bake meals—a rotating selection of 20+ complete Italian entrées
• Weekly chef specials from Enzo’s very own Chef Rita!
While many specialty ingredients are sourced from Italy and New York, Enzo’s also partners with local farms for fresh produce, ensuring the highest quality for every dish.
Whether you’re hosting a small gathering, a wedding, or a corporate event, Enzo’s catering offers the rich, comforting flavors of Italy, crafted with care and authenticity. From hearty lasagna to fresh-baked bread and classic pasta dishes, every meal is designed to make your occasion memorable and delicious.
What makes Enzo’s Italian Market truly special is its ability to transport customers straight to Italy—whether they’re shopping for ingredients, bringing home a prepared meal, or soon, enjoying authentic dining or a glass of Italian wine at the Matthews Station location.
“It’s not just a market; it’s an experience,” says Gregory Tigani. “At Enzo’s, we want our customers to feel like family. We’re here to share the food, the history, and the traditions of Italy—one meal at a time.”
Visit Enzo’s and become part of the family.

Escape the routine at home in Charlotte and take a break for a visit to a home in paradise on the small but beautiful Caribbean Island of Antigua. You’ll be richly rewarded with an unforgettable experience. It boasts stunning white beaches offset by a sparkling coastline with a vibrant island culture.
Even though larger exclusive resorts can be found on the island, we’ve discovered a resort that truly feels like a home away from home in paradise at The Villas at Sunset Lane. It’s a beautiful, quaint, private, adults only boutique get-away beckoning you with open arms. The owner, Jackie, will personally welcome you to your home away from home in the Caribbean.
The property is tucked away on a hillside overlooking one of Antigua’s most scenic beaches - Dickinson Bay. From the time the first sunbeam shimmers on your face to the last sip of your final cocktail for the day, you are guaranteed to enjoy a perfect relaxing Caribbean vacation. The atmosphere is authentic, the service is intimate, the pool is enticing, and cocktails are made fresh and served
by the friendly staff whose smiles beam as brightly as the sun during the day and with the warmth of the beautiful sunsets in the evening. The breezes are so refreshing!
Your luxurious suite is always ready to receive you. The Villas offer a serene and luxurious escape designed exclusively for adult guests seeking tranquility, comfort and personalized service. All suites provide a private sanctuary for unwinding. Your experience will blend Caribbean charm with modern luxury. We love our children, but on this vacation, you can enjoy child-free ambiance, awesome surroundings from an adult perspective, and the warm hospitality that makes The Villas at Sunset Lane a premier adults-only retreat. What more could you want at your home away from home?
You’ll wake up to breathtaking views of the ocean, warm rays of sun and fresh rejuvenating breezes. Once you get going, you’ll be ready to explore the retreat and the island to enrich your mind, body and soul. To start, you may enjoy a walk on the beach, yoga sessions or pleasurable visits to the spa for treatment and services.
The owner of the resort, Jackie, is also an executive chef. She and her team are ready to provide delicious island cuisine and drinks throughout the day for guests. Gourmet dining experiences allow you to savor her exquisite meals. She collaborates with local farmers and fishermen to offer the freshest ingredients in meals for guests. She refers to her kitchen
as her canvas where she creates delicious and memorable dishes. You can even enjoy dining while learning about the island’s culture and how to create Caribbean-Fusion meals she creates in her thrilling cooking classes. There is a lot to learn about Antigua and its culture inherited from other Caribbean islands, Africa, Asia, Britain and Europe through its food. Chef Jackie is passionate about sharing her knowledge, culinary island stories, love for the island, its food and her cooking techniques.
Surrounded by water and 365 beaches, the island’s sea tours are a must-experience and if it is your lucky day, you just may see the whales playfully performing for you especially on the southwestern side of the island just before sunset. The fun does not end there, the catamaran day tours are filled with lots of fun, food and drinks and, not to forget, the calypso music which is a major part of Caribbean culture.
For the adventurous guests, there is awesome zip-lining, swimming with the stingrays. Yes, stingrays that you can gently kiss. You can also enjoy Antigua’s hiking trails. Some of them are quite challenging but you are sure to have lots of fun with the locals while hiking. Since the island is surrounded by water, there is lots of room to experience deep sea diving as well as snorkeling with the island’s experienced tour guides. Tours of the island and excursions by boat to Antigua’s sister island, Barbuda, are available if you want to appreciate all that it has to offer.
Currently Antigua is easily accessible from Charlotte with seven flights each week. Antigua is considered one of the safest Caribbean islands for travelers. The island appears on the list of 18 Caribbean islands with a Level 1 Travel Advisory designated by the U. S. Department of State. This designation indicates that travelers should “exercise normal precautions” which means that it is not a high-risk area for crime. The Level 1 list includes the Caribbean islands considered to be the safest in the region for American visitors as of February 22, 2025.

Ifyou’ve lived in your home for a while, it’s likely that you’ve benefitted from the time gone by and from the increases in market values. If so, you’ve accumulated a good amount of equity in your property value over the years. If you’re a homeowner who is at least 62 years old and near or in retirement then you may need additional funds, so with proper guidance your home can provide the financial assistance you might need.
Whether you’re looking to increase your monthly income to cover increases in living expenses, the cost of home renovations or repairs, medical care expenses, have big travel and pleasure plans or would just like to create more cash on hand that you can draw from in case of an emergency, accessing extra cash can be a challenge. It’s not uncommon for older homeowners to have a large amount of their net worth tied up in the equity in their home and this can be a wonderful thing if they need additional funds. Instead of accessing cash through a Home Equity Line of Credit (HELOC) which will require payments to be paid back in monthly installments, a better option for
accessing equity in a home may be a reverse mortgage. It’s a uniquely wonderful tool that can be used to help homeowners in retirement achieve their financial goals.
Gina LaRosa, an expert in reverse mortgages with Mutual of Omaha can help you make good decisions about acquiring financial benefits from the equity in your home. Gina has a passion for helping seniors navigate financial freedom. She is a dedicated Reverse Mortgage advisor serving clients in California, Florida, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and South Carolina. Gina’s extensive background in mortgage banking, business ownership, and customer service gives her a unique ability to educate and empower retirees looking to enhance their financial security through Home Equity Conversion Mortgages (HECM’s).
As a reverse mortgage professional, Gina will do everything she can do to
get you through to a closing. In an initial discussion, she can give you details regarding what to expect and will walk you through a free, no obligation financial review and help you determine which product option fits your needs. She will answer any questions you may have along the way.
One of the first things to note about the reverse mortgage application process is that it may not close fast. Obtaining the cash from a reverse mortgage may take up to 45 days. Each individual’s loan process to closing can vary but it is likely that you can receive a general estimate of what you can expect to receive from a reverse mortgage in an early review.
You are required to receive independent counseling from a certified third-party HUD-approved independent counselor who is not associated with the lender before you secure a reverse mortgage.
Gina will assist you with submitting your application and the signing of all the necessary disclosures. After this, arrangements can be made for an appraisal to assess the condition and value of your home for a confirmed payout at closing. Then once the appraisal is received and submitted then the loan file can be submitted to underwriting and the approval process can be completed. Once approved a closing date can be scheduled. Three days after closing the funds can be distributed as requested when the application was submitted to receive a lump sum, monthly payments, a line of credit or a combination of all three.
> To learn more about reverse mortgages from Gina LaRosa and to work with her evaluating your options for a reverse mortgage, reach out to her at glarosa@ mutualmortgage.com, or 704.778.0728.

Homelessness is growing in Charlotte, and as we enjoy the comforts in our beautiful homes, there are many in the Charlotte area who are not as fortunate to enjoy the same. There is a shortage of more than 25,000 homes for those with lower incomes, no incomes, or physical or mental disabilities in our community.
Roof Above, formerly Urban Ministry Center and Men’s Shelter of Charlotte, is an interfaith organization dedicated to uniting the community to end homelessness, one life at a time. Roof Above carries out this mission by providing a continuum from street outreach and basic services to emergency shelter and housing.
A home is critical to providing safety, stability, and dignity in people’s lives. Each day, Roof Above serves more than 1,400 people in our community. Half of which are served through the organization’s homeless services, and the other half are formerly homeless persons served through the organization’s housing programs. Roof Above’s programs, resources, staff and volunteers are the housing safety nets for the individuals being helped.
Roof Above believes proper housing is the solution to homelessness, and the nonprofit has worked in multiple ways to create innovative housing solutions for Charlotte’s most vulnerable neighbors in need. One program has focused on those who are working jobs and needing shelter at night, and another program, through a generous partnership with Mecklenburg County, has targeted seniors who are on extended waiting lists for appropriate subsidized housing. With the help of support from the community and contributions, Roof
Above has been able to even purchase properties, including an apartment complex and a hotel that was renovated to provide housing for those in need.
The organization’s approach is personal with relationships driving its services while helping to heal the trauma of homelessness. There is value in every life, and Roof Above strives to honor the profound worth of each life. Their work reflects that belief. Its vision is for homelessness to become rare, brief and non-repeatable for everyone. Roof Above’s work will continue through creating innovative solutions to help eliminate homelessness and raise more impactful voices in the community to elevate efforts to end homelessness.
Ending homelessness cannot be done alone. Community engagement, contributions and volunteerism remain rooted throughout Roof Above’s commitment to deliver services as did its preceding organizations, Urban Ministry Center and Men’s Shelter of Charlotte. There are many ways to support Roof Above’s work. Offering financial and in-kind resources, learning more about the issues the nonprofit addresses and sharing your voice to amplify its mission are all critical to the organization’s success. On-site volunteers, individuals and businesses have many opportunities to join Roof Above to help deliver services and stimulate growth toward eliminating homelessness in Charlotte.
> Roof Above has multiple campuses across Charlotte. Its Day Services Center is located at 945 N College St, Charlotte, NC 28206. For more information or to donate, visit roofabove.org.
