Building The Church 2021

Building Together

For more than a century, South America Mission has been laboring to see the Church of Jesus Christ multiplied and transforming communities by embodying the Kingdom of God. It has been our privilege to participate in Christ’s sufferings. Some have even laid down their lives. We rejoice in the progress of the gospel that has resulted from the faithfulness of those who have gone before. Yet our zeal for God’s glory in the nations has not waned.

Today that zeal is translated into visible form through our missionaries and partners working to share the gospel, reproduce authentic disciples of Jesus, plant churches, train leaders and equip God’s people to minister transformationally.

Whether we are witnessing in neighborhoods, educating children in schools, flying mission airplanes into hard-to-reach places, leading Bible studies, building houses, feeding the poor, or healing through medical outreach, all is done to the glory of God. All is done toward building the Church.

Will you join us in this monumental task? We depend on Christ through the Spirit. We depend on you, fellow members of the body and fellow holders of the keys to the Kingdom.

Building the Church

What word can be spoken into a broken creation? What word brings hope? Redemption! The One who spoke creation into being is actively at work as the Redeemer King.

Amazingly, astoundingly, our gracious Redeemer has entrusted his redemptive work to the Church. Ordained by Christ and empowered by his Spirit to proclaim redemption, the Church must respond to creation’s need. Let the Church be the Church!

It’s through our incarnational witness that we participate in building for the vision God has set before us.

enable tranSformational initiativeS Paul defined the gospel for the Colossians as “Christ in you, the hope of glory!” In a lost world, poverty, ignorance, alcoholism, oppression, and materialism mock this hope. The Church, even while longing for its final redemption, must respond with transformational ministry—ministry that rips aside the curtain of sin and reveals the glory of Christ in a redeemed creation.

Scripture provides us with God’s leadership formation manual with historical examples spread across the centuries. He always starts with character by training to obedience. Modern education falls short of this biblical standard because it lacks the courage to train to a standard of obedience. The world is hungry for leaders formed in the biblical model—leaders with godly character adorned by knowledge and understanding gained in the school of obedience.

Discipleship is working out our salvation and discovering the purposes to which we are called. The beauty of Christ is reflected for the world to see in the faithfulness of his disciples.

Our God exists in community and he works in and through community. Salvation is personal. It is clear Christ never intended it to be individual. When Jesus calls us out of the world, he calls us into community. The local church is the Christ ordained expression of that community.

Redeemed Communities

As God’s people live authentically— infusing the world with the grace and mercy of Jesus—the local church takes on the beauty God desires for it. God’s church is a gathering of people through whom he works out the purposes of redemption—in individuals, families, cities and nations.

Self-sustenance is too small a thing for the Church, Christ’s body, the fullness of him who fills everything in every way. By his Spirit we are being shaped into redemptive communities. May the Lord renew in his people a passion for his will to be done “on earth as it is in heaven.”
