Where Does The Money Go?

South America Mission is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization whose core ministry involves mobilizing missionaries to build the church of Jesus Christ in South America. A faith-based organization, we rely on the church—the people of God—to steward financial resources in support of ministry fulfilled by our dedicated missionary corps. God’s Word gives us the foundation for this financial model.

Our desire is to be transparent in the stewardship of resources donated to SAM. Through this transparency, our hope is for our donors to see that every dollar given in support of a missionary impacts the facilitation of God’s Kingdom-building work carried out in South America.

If you have questions regarding your donation to South America Mission, please contact us using the information located on the back of this brochure.

South America Mission is a member of the Evangelical Council for Financial Accountability.

32% Missionary Base Salary: The basis of the support need, this sustains a missionary’s modest, yet adequate livelihood. This model embodies Paul’s words in 1 Cor. that those sent to proclaim the gospel will “get their living by the gospel.” Salary also includes Social Security and taxes. In order to promote good stewardship, the salary is set by the Board of Directors of South America Mission.

25% Income Adjustments for Living Expenses: Adjustments to income are allowed based on situation specific needs. Extra support is designated to offset certain living expenses that vary from country to country and depending on family situations. For example, families with children incur higher living and education expenses. Also, the cost of living is higher in certain countries than in others.

19% Missionary Benefits: SAM missionaries and their families receive core benefits of access to health insurance and means to save for retirement. Our missionaries raise the resources to adequately fund these important safety and security measures which, among other things, provide for long-term ministry viability.

10% Ministry: Whether buying materials to train church leaders, planting a new church or sustaining mission aviation, these outreach efforts require investment for effective implementation. Missionaries engage in strategic ministries and frequently contribute to ministry an even greater percentage of donated resources.

1% Communication: Whether in print, via e-mail or social media, missionaries invest to communicate with their supporters to ensure the engagement of the body of Christ as it participates together in fulfilling the Great Commission.

11% Organizational Impact: Mobilize, Lead, Equip—A portion of missionary support sustains the services and programs provided by the organization that ensure the highest level of care and leadership and the lowest possible cost of missionary engagement.

2% Field Leadership: Each country of service (field) incurs costs associated with managing and facilitating ministry and caring for missionaries, e.g., compliance with local government regulations, operating a field office, stewarding field finances, etc. Resources allocated in support of administration directly support the infrastructure essential to ministry.
