to i n f i n i t y a n d b e yo n d ( t h e s c r e e n ) The 14th edition of SorsiCorti was baptized in a normal period, in which we still embraced and greeted each other with a kiss. Then everything changed within a few months, but we carried on this pre-covid intuition, deciding to give "Beyond the Screen" as its title. The meaning of this title comes from the frequent reflections in which the staff of the Festival enters annually, trying to understand the mysterious world of short films and what can be defined as audio-visual in general.

About fifteen years ago ... a period that we could ironically interpret as "the dawn of the media diffusion of online cinema platforms" in Italy, a friend of mine told me

verso l’infinito e oltre (lo schermo) La XIV edizione di SorsiCorti era stata battezzata in un periodo normale, in cui ancora ci si abbracciava e ci si salutava con il bacio. Poi tutto cambiò nel giro di pochi mesi, ma questa intuizione pre-covid l’abbiamo portata avanti, decidendo di dare come titolo “Oltre lo schermo”. Il senso di questo titolo, nasce dalle frequenti riflessioni in cui lo staff del Festival si addentra annualmente cercando di comprendere il misterioso mondo del cortometraggio e di ciò che può essere definito audio-visivo in generale.

Una quindicina di anni fa… periodo che potremmo ironicamente interpretare come “gli albori della diffusione mediatica delle piattaforme cinematografiche on-line” in Italia, una mia conoscente mi raccontava di come sua figlia, di appena due anni, invece

how his daughter, just two years old, instead of leafing through the pages of a magazine, he passed over his finger as if to scroll through the images. I thought that the mental image of the screen had appeared under his fingers, even if it was, instead, a cheap glossy magazine. But suddenly the screen! Immortal audio-visual conductor (but also tactile) that we will not be able to do without.

The screen, perhaps, has always existed (as an archetypal image of the 16 : 9 display) and going beyond it is a daring, risky, perhaps even presumptuous adventure and precisely for this reason it is also liberating and desecrating. The screen (large, small, plasma, smart, touch etc ...), that devilishness of modernists, which gradually shapes our perception, or rather better, our perceptive systems in a correspondence that has almost magic (as if the children were already structurally ready to handle

di sfogliare le pagine di una rivista, gli passasse sopra il dito come a voler far scorrere le immagini. Pensai che si era presentificata, sotto le sue dita, l’immagine mentale dello schermo, anche se si trattava, invece, di una dozzinale rivista patinata. Ma improvvisamente lo schermo! Immortale conduttore audio-visivo (ma anche tattile) di cui non potremo fare più a meno.

Lo schermo, forse, è sempre esistito (come immagine archetipica della visualizzazione in 16:9) e andarne oltre è un’avventura audace, rischiosa, forse addirittura presuntuosa e proprio per questo anche liberatoria e dissacratoria. Lo schermo (grande, piccolo, al plasma, smart, touch ecc…), quella diavoleria da modernisti, che plasma gradualmente la nostra percezione, anzi meglio, i nostri sistemi percettivi in una corrispondenza che ha quasi del magico (come se i bambini fossero già strutturalmente pronti a maneggiare questa techne) è stato anche uno (se

And we glued to the screen have learned about the beginning of SARS-Cov-2 in a miscellany of images that layered in our mind. And it is precisely the screen that introduced us, holding hands, in this apocalyptic adventure.

Many of us, especially in the least affected areas by the disease, have known this chapter of history as a media story that happened very close, but not enough to catch it in its concrete tragedy. The war, the only similar experience remembered by the great elders, was marked by the sounds of a siren, by bombings and by the deafening roar of military planes that darted over their heads. War, a horrible experience of fear,

E noi incollati allo schermo abbiamo imparato a conoscere la comparsa del SARS-Cov-2 in una miscellanea di immagini che si stratificavano nella nostra mente. Ed è proprio lo schermo che ci ha introdotto, tenendoci per mano, in questa avventura da genere apocalittico.

Molti di noi, soprattutto nelle zone meno colpite dalla malattia, hanno conosciuto questo capitolo della storia come un racconto mediatico che accadeva molto vicino, ma non abbastanza da coglierlo nella sua concreta tragicità. La guerra, unica esperienza simile ricordata dai grandi anziani, era scandita dai suoni di sirena, dai bombardamenti e dal rombo assordante di aerei militari che sfrecciavano sulle loro teste. La guerra, orribile esperienza di paura, è visibile ad occhio nudo, il covid no. Ci vuole uno schermo

is visible to the naked eye, the covid is not. It takes a screen to see it, that of a powerful microscope or even the most powerful of mass communication. In addition, we learned to do distance learning, work video calls and aperitifs on the platform; technology came to our aid, even if not at all, leaving those who could not access it, even more isolated.

And now that we have coming out, what is left over the screen? In those dark places without light or at most backlit? In the rediscovered space of the interpersonal relationship? Perhaps the awareness of the tender Buzz Lightyear, (co-protagonist of the Toy Story saga of which I reported the sentence in the title) of not being an intergalactic hero, but only a simple toy for children, which thanks to this awareness, he will transform himself into an intergalactic hero.

per vederlo, quello di un potente microscopio oppure ancora quello più potente della comunicazione di massa. Inoltre abbiamo imparato a fare la didattica a distanza, le videochiamata di lavoro e gli aperitivi in piattaforma; la tecnologia ci è venuta in aiuto, anche se non a tutti, lasciando ancora più isolato chi non riusciva ad accedervi.

E adesso che siamo usciti allo scoperto che cosa è rimasto oltre lo schermo? In quei luoghi oscuri senza luce o al più retro-illuminati? Nello spazio ritrovato della relazione interpersonale? Forse la consapevolezza del tenero Buzz Lightyear, (co-protagonista della saga di Toy Story di cui ho riportato la frase ad effetto nel titolo) di non essere un eroe intergalattico, ma solo un semplice balocco per bambini, che proprio grazie a questa consapevolezza si trasformerà in un eroe intergalattico.

La XIV edizione di SorsiCorti, come rinnovato momento di incontro, spero possa contribuire a ritrovare il piacere di rivedersi per proseguire in quell’avventura tutta

The XIV edition of SorsiCorti, as a renewed moment of meeting, I hope will help to find the pleasure of seeing each other again in order to continue on that all-human adventure which, often, by now, passes only through a screen, but which must necessarily go: Beyond the Screen.

At dawn smugglers load 71 people from Syria, Afghanistan, Iraq and Iran onto a truck to drive them from Hungary to Germany. During the journey, the refugees start knocking and screaming for help. The truck driver faces a dilemma. He hears the people scream and beg for help but receives an order to not open the doors to the cargo area. Over the phone he is pressured by his boss to finish the transport at any cost.

Il 26 agosto 2015 un convoglio di trafficanti di esseri umani lascia morire 71 rifugiati stipati in un camion. All’alba i trafficanti caricano 71 persone provenienti da Siria, Afghanistan, Iraq e Iran su un camion per condurli dall’Ungheria alla Germania. Durante il viaggio i rifugiati iniziano a bussare e gridare aiuto. Il camionista deve affrontare un dilemma. Sente la gente urlare e chiedere aiuto, ma riceve un ordine di non aprire le porte nell’area di carico. Al telefono viene pressato dal suo capo per finire il trasporto ad ogni costo.

When the bee is suddenly devoured by a duck, Don Jose starts his pursuit of the duck, embarking on a chase of logic and a surrealistic journey into the depths of his consciousness.

Un’ape felice disturba la tranquillità dei vacanzieri in una tranquilla isola pastorale.

Disturbando Don Jose nel mezzo di un momento rilassante, lui le sputa e lei cade nel suo drink. Tentando di salvarla dall’annegamento, Don Jose si affeziona emotivamente all’ape.

Quando l’ape viene improvvisamente divorata da un’anatra, Don Jose inizia la sua ricerca dell’anatra, intraprendendo un inseguimento della logica e un viaggio surreale nelle profondità della sua coscienza.

by Wouter Jansen Netherlands | 2018 | Fiction | 16’01” Enter the bleakest place in the ugly sad and forgotten sewers of the old west. A ghost-town where the scent of anything good seems to be long gone. When local artist Luc le Blanc draws the portrait of his enemy on a wanted poster, a chain reaction of killings and fraudulence is started. Draw your gun is a slow, bleak western about the most unsympathetic outcasts imaginable.

Entra nel luogo più desolato delle brutte fogne tristi e dimenticate del vecchio west. Una città fantasma in cui il profumo di qualcosa di buono sembra essere scomparso da tempo. Quando l’artista locale Luc le Blanc disegna il ritratto del suo nemico su un poster da ricercato, inizia una reazione a catena di omicidi e frodi. Drow your gun è un western lento e cupo sugli emarginati più antipatici che si possano immaginare.

Organizational director and programmer of the Sicily Queer filmfest, since 2013 Lisciandrello’s activity has focused on the organization of events related to cinema. In 2014 he founded the international animation festival ANIMAPHIX together with the cultural association QB of Bagheria, carrying out both the activities of programmer and activities related to production. Since 2014 he has been a member of the Sudtitles Cultural Association as head of cultural activities, and from 2016 to 2018 he was its president. With Sudtitles he has worked on the creation of numerous film events including ESCO-allo scoperto, an openair cinema review; L’ottobre di Ozu, an exhibition dedicated to 71

Direttore organizzativo e programmer del Sicilia Queer filmfest, dal 2013 la sua attività si è concentrata sull’organizzazione di eventi legati al cinema. Nel 2014 fonda insieme all’associazione culturale QB di Bagheria il festival internazionale d’animazione ANIMAPHIX svolgendo sia l’attività di programmer che attività legate alla produzione. (Palermo 1970) lives and works in Palermo. After his artistic training between Palermo and Urbino, he graduated in psychology from the University of his city with a thesis on the language of art and Art Therapy. He trained in Art Therapy in Bologna at Art Therapy Italiana, where he is regional coordinator and specializes in Expressive Psychotherapy at IPSE also in Bologna. In 2018 he was elected to the board of the I.A.A.P (International Association for Art and Psychology). After numerous artistic experiences as a performer and set designer, in 1997 he exhibited a series of portraits in a personal exhibition "Portraits Gallery - Personal", inaugurating his unfinished 73

Emilio Vergani is an evaluator and a trainer; he was born in Monza but he lives and works in Palermo. He has written some books, including Builing Visions. Make the world as it should be (Exorma, Rome) and Planning. Dialogues around a generative practice (Navarra edition, Palermo). Emilio Vergani is a member of the Free University of Education (Lude) and the International Association for Art and Psycology (IAAP Sicily); he teaches at Lumsa Santa Silvia, Palermo.

He tries to convince Alexander to join him leaving the village, but his overly romantic message runs into a wall.

Wolf, vent'anni, vive nel villaggio di boxe dei Paesi Bassi. Quando deve combattere contro il suo migliore amico Alexander durante una partita settimanale, rifiuta. La rivincita è confermata, il che porta i sentimenti e le emozioni di Wolf a un punto di ebollizione. KIMUAK The KIMUAK program, supported by the Basque Government's Department of Culture through Etxepare Basque Institute, and the Basque Film Archive, was created in 1998 with the aim of promoting and distributing Basque short films internationally.

Every year Kimuak selects the best short films shot in Basque and having the collaboration of Basque technicians and actors. The selected shorts are gathered in a catalogue published on the label Kimuak, in order to promote and distribute them.

The catalogue is sent to the major festivals and audiovisual events, so the new selection is accessible to an international audience.

SorsiCorti has had the good fortune to meet Kimuak since the first editions and SorsiCorti 13 offers out of competition a selection from the 2017 and 2018 catalogue.

Il programma KIMUAK, sostenuto dal Dipartimento della Cultura del Governo Basco attraverso l'Etxepare Basque Institute e il Basque Film Archive, è stato creato nel 1998 con l'obiettivo di promuovere e distribuire cortometraggi baschi a livello internazionale. Ogni anno Kimuak seleziona i migliori cortometraggi girati in Basco e girati con la collaborazione di tecnici e attori Baschi.

I corti selezionati vengono raccolti in un catalogo pubblicati con l’etichetta Kimuak, per promuoverli e distribuirli. Il catalogo viene inviato ai maggiori festival per essere accessibile ad un pubblico internazionale. SorsiCorti ha avuto la fortuna di conoscere la realtà Kimuak già dalle prime edizioni del festival e in occasione della 13^ edizione propone fuori concorso una selezione del catalogo 2017 e 2018.
