resuming How manynuances in thisverb. Resuming something that was lost, or that had been stolen from us, or shooting with a camera and, why not, scold someone, take it back. Manyotherscan be found in the folds of thispolysemic word. We have chosen it to give a name to the 15th edition of our Festival: Resuming. We have said it several times in the hopeful prospect of returning to normality. Starting over aswellasresuming. The pessimists say that nothing will return to the way it was before and that the recovery will be slow and tiring. Whoknows? In fact this year we have received less short films than usual, 20% less. Only eighteen in competition, like the members of a baseball team

riprendere Quante sfumature in questo verbo. Riprendere qualcosa che si era perso, o che ci era stato sottratto, oppure registrare con una telecamera e, perché no, rimproverare qualcuno. Molte altre se ne possono trovare tra le pieghe di questa polisemica parola. Noi l’abbiamo scelta per dare un nome alla XV edizione del nostro Festival: Riprendere. L’abbiamo pronunciata più volte nella prospettiva speranzosa di tornare alla normalità. Ricominciare oltre che riprendere. I pessimisti dicono che nulla tornerà come prima e che la ripresa sarà lenta e faticosa. Chi lo sa? In effetti quest’anno si sono iscritti meno cortometraggi del solito, il 20% in meno. In concorso solo diciotto, come i componenti di una squadra di baseball (o gli apostoli secondo un film di qualche anno fa). Diciotto

(or the apostles according to a film a few years ago). Eighteen shorts in competition, first edition stuff back in 2006, inside the splendid Cana wine shop in via Alloro in Palermo. A glass of wine and a handful of film shorts offered with affection by friends and acquaintances who had made one. A video projector and the start of the Festival. The beginnings. Today we are still here, still in the saddle to spread the culture of short films in great growth compared to 2006 (but in decline due to the pandemic). So, in tune with all our beloved directors and authors, let’s just saywehave to "resume". The choice of this year's location, the Rouge et Noir cinema, is motivated by the desire to invest in cinema, to contribute, in our small way, to bringing people back to the cinema. Recent data are not encouraging and the restrictions due to Covid unfortunately affect two key places for the cultural growth of the collective: the Cinema and the

corti in concorso, roba da prima edizione nel lontano 2006, all’interno della splendida enoteca Cana di via Alloro a Palermo. Un bicchiere di vino e un pugno di corti offerti con affetto da amici e conoscenti che ne avevano realizzato uno. Un videoproiettore di fortuna e l’inizio del Festival. Gli inizi. Allora prendemmo la palla al balzo, con la proposta del gestore di organizzare un Festival di cortometraggi nella sua enoteca. Oggi siamo ancora qui, ancora in sella per diffondere la cultura del cinema breve in grande crescita rispetto al 2006 (ma in calo causa pandemia). Per cui, in sintonia con tutti i nostri amati registi e autori, diciamo che non ci resta che “riprendere”. La scelta della location di quest’anno, il cinema Rouge et Noir, è motivata dal desiderio di investire sul cinema, contribuire, nel nostro piccolo, a far ritornare le persone al cinema. I dati recenti non sono incoraggianti e le restrizioni causa Covid purtroppo colpiscono due luoghi fondamentali per crescita culturale del collettivo: il Cinema e il Teatro. Oggi, come non mai, abbiamo bisogno di tornare a frequentare questi luoghi

Theater. Today, as never before, we need to return to visit these immortal places that tell us who we are and how to be able to give meaning to the dramatic phenomena that life offers. Of course, these places also help us to have fun, also reminding us of the importance of escaping, albeit momentary, from everyday life (Brecht said that evasion, a fundamental activity for men, is not just for jailers). immortali che ci raccontano chi siamo e come poter riuscire a dare senso ai fenomeni drammatici che la vita propone. Naturalmente questi luoghi ci aiutano anche a svagarci, ricordandoci anche l’importanza dell’evasione, seppur momentanea, dalla vita quotidiana (diceva Brecht che l’evasione, attività fondamentale per gli uomini, non piace solo ai carcerieri). ekstase by Marion Kellmann Germany | 2019 | 11’30” | video art Marion Kellmann’s film “Ekstase” is a montage of scenes from various silent films. Based on similar settings and gestures it explores the stereotype of women on the verge of insanity. In a repetitive montage the same symptoms and actions recur repeatedly in different places, different sceneries and with different people. The film’s montage suggests that the spectacle of the emotionally unstable women seems to be automated and controllable. The manipulation becomes visible and the diagnosis turns against itself.

Il film di Marion Kellmann "Ekstase" è un montaggio di scene di vari film muti. Basato su impostazioni e gesti simili, esplora lo stereotipo delle donne sull'orlo della follia. In un montaggio ripetitivo gli stessi sintomi e azioni ricorrono ripetutamente in luoghi diversi, scenari diversi e con persone diverse. Il montaggio del film suggerisce che lo spettacolo delle donne emotivamente instabili sembra essere automatizzato e controllabile. La manipolazione diventa visibile e la diagnosi si rivolta contro se stessa.

He soon realizes that he has lost his position as the head of the home, and the distance separating him from his family is not just a measure of physical space.

Hayk torna in Armenia dal suo ultimo periodo come lavoratore migrante, tornando a casa per festeggiare il nuovo anno con la sua famiglia. La moglie, i tre figli e la madre lo aspettano in un villaggio lontano. Ben presto si rende conto di aver perso la sua posizione di capofamiglia e la distanza che lo separa dalla sua famiglia non è solo una misura dello spazio fisico.

There are human rights, nations and cultures rights, Earth and living beings rights. In these travel notes, the author meets people and places that claim the right to profess their ancestral religion, Voodoo. And for an authentic immersion, following in the footsteps of the first film-maker anthropologists, he moves without a crew and supported only by his suspended gaze. Ci sono i diritti umani, i diritti delle nazioni e delle culture, i diritti della Terra e degli esseri viventi. In questi appunti di viaggio, l'autore incontra persone e luoghi che rivendicano il diritto di professare la loro religione ancestrale, il Vodù. E per un'immersione autentica, sulle orme dei primi antropologi cineasti, si muove senza troupe e sorretto solo dal suo sguardo sospeso.

tutto questo una volta erano querce by Giuseppe Sangiorgi Italy | 2020 | 13’06” | fiction Lea and Sofia are very good friends; they meet one morning in late summer and join their schoolmates for a party in the countryside. The boys are inebriated, they celebrate the beginning of autumn with dances, wine and marijuana, the girls are possessed by the goliardic spirit of Bacchus, they look like bacchantes in celebration. In the afternoon part of the group goes for a walk in the countryside, and Lea and Sofia go with them. One of the boys tells how, before, in his grandfather's time, everything was covered with oaks; where there are now fields to cultivate there were only oaks, and he points out, far away on a hill, the last stronghold still inhabited by oaks. Lea and Sofia remain enchanted, so much so that they decide to secretly leave the group and reach the small wood.

Lea e Sofia sono molto amiche; si incontrano una mattina di fine estate e si uniscono ai compagni di scuola per una festa in campagna. I ragazzi sono ebbri, festeggiano l'inizio dell'autunno con danze, vino e marijuana, le ragazze sono possedute dallo spirito goliardico di Bacco, sembrano baccanti in festa. Nel pomeriggio una parte del gruppo va a fare una passeggiata in campagna, e Lea e Sofia vanno con loro. Uno dei ragazzi racconta come, prima, ai tempi del nonno, tutto fosse ricoperto di querce; dove ora ci sono campi da coltivare c'erano solo querce, e indica, lontano su una collina, l'ultima roccaforte ancora abitata da querce. Lea e Sofia rimangono incantate, tanto che decidono di lasciare di nascosto il gruppo e raggiungere il boschetto.

A homeless Irish alcoholic and an artistic backpacker clash on a Sydney street. The backpacker becomes the focus of her anger over a misunderstanding. But the backpacker’s innocence catches her off guard and they quickly develop an unlikely connection over his art. The pair discover the power of genuine self expression and creativity. Un’alcolizzata irlandese senzatetto e un artista zaino in spalla si scontrano in una strada di Sydney. Lo zaino in spalla diventa il fulcro della sua rabbia per un malinteso. Ma l'innocenza dello zaino in spalla la coglie alla sprovvista e sviluppano rapidamente un'improbabile connessione con la sua arte. I due scoprono il potere della vera espressione di sé e della creatività.

He trained professionally in Rai and Mediaset television serial productions, first in the photography direction, then in directing. Back in Sicily he collaborates as a director and television writer for the Sky channels “Sicilia International” and “Set”. In 2004 he created “Fine Art Produzioni”, a cinematographic company that specializes in the production of documentaries, mostly with an archaeological and 32
Si è formato professionalmente presso produzioni seriali televisive Rai e Mediaset, prima nel campo della direzione della fotografia, poi in quello della regia.

Rientrato in Sicilia collabora come regista e autore televisivo per i canali satellitari Sky “Sicilia International” e “Set”. Nel 2004 crea “Fine Art Produzioni”, una impresa cinematografica che si specializza nella produzione di documentari, per lo più a tema archeologico e storico-artistico, collaborando con Università, Soprintendenze, enti pubblici e privati impegnati nella valorizzazione dei Beni Culturali. Ha diretto numerosi audiovisivi, molti dei quali hanno ottenuto riconoscimenti e premi in festival e rassegne internazionali.

historical-artistic theme, collaborating with Universities, Superintendencies, public and private corporations engaged in the enhancement of cultural heritage. He has directed numerous audiovisuals, many of which have received awards and prizes at international festivals and expositions. In the last few years he has taught in the “Piano Nazionale Cinema e immagini per la Scuola”, promoted by the Italian Ministries of Culture and Education. He teaches a seminar on archaeological cinema at the University of Catania and since 2011 he has been the artistic co-director of the “Festival del Documentario e della Comunicazione Archeologica” of Licodia Eubea. He is president of the “Coordinamento dei Festival del Cinema in Sicilia”.

Mel corso degli ultimi anni ha svolto attività di docenza nell’ambito del “Piano Nazionale Cinema e immagini per la Scuola”, promosso dai Ministeri della Cultura e dell’Istruzione. È docente di un seminario di cinema archeologico presso l’Università degli Studi di Catania e dal 2011 è co-direttore artistico del “Festival del Documentario e della Comunicazione Archeologica” di Licodia Eubea. È presidente del Coordinamento dei Festival del Cinema in Sicilia.

Dario Frasca (1981) Professional actor graduated at Teates theater school in Palermo (2002/2004) directed by Michele Perriera. Later he studies with different actors and Italian and foreign directors to continue to train and to perfect the art of the actor through drama, music, the Commedia dell’Arte and the Clown, cinema and television. The artists who influenced him are: Michele Perriera, Franco Scaldati, Claudio Collovà, Antonio Raffaele Addamo, Emmanuel Gallot-Lavallée, Gianfranco Perriera, Gigi Borruso, Sandro Dieli, Antonio Fava, Paolo Antonio Simioni. He has always tried his hand at other languages taking part in performances, acting in fiction for RAI, 34 IT Dario Frasca (1981) Attore professionista diplomato presso la scuola di teatro Teates di Palermo (2002/2004) diretta da Michele Perriera. Successivamente studia con diversi attori e registi italiani e stranieri per continuare a formarsi e perfezionare l’arte dell’attore attraverso il dramma, la musica, la Commedia dell’Arte e il Clown, il cinema e la televisione. For years he has been collaborating with various theatrical realities and since 2014 he has been in charge of conducting laboratory, studying art teaching and non-violent communication. It also collaborates with various associations, social, artistic and theatrical realities including: CRESM, CESIE, CISS, Forme, Small Pataphysical Theater, Tanto di Cappello Company, Atlante Theater, Massimo Theater, Ditirammu Theater, New Theater and Free Theater. He has been working for years in the roles of assistant director, assistant set designer and actor, without never give up on laboratory management, one of the aspects of his work that he loves very very much.

Marco Milone is both a film producer (“Revengeance”, “The Mafia Is No Longer What It Used To Be”) and a startupper (board member of Freedom Waves and Undo Studios, as well as and Financial and Management Controller of Freedom Waves Administrative Director of the social platform The Nemesis).
