Alex has also trained in mindfulnessbased stress reduction and breathwork. Alexteaches slow(ish!) strengthening yoga classes at Sópers House on Mondays (9.30-

includes: “Alex’s calming voice, along with her clear instructions, helped me to find something I really enjoy doing… I never feel self conscious, I truly recommend” and “Alex goes at a reasonable pace, depending on ability, but challenges you all at the same time. My anxiety has lessened and I feel energised. I cannot recommend Alex highly enough”.

PAULA AMANI
Paula Amani is from East London and previously had a creative background. Paula really appreciates fitness, design and good food!
Paula has practised yoga for 18 years and began her yoga teacher training back in 2013. This has led to a journey of extending her love and skill set of wellbeing to further yoga training, massage therapy, meditation and aromatherapy.
In her morning yoga flow class, Paula offers a focus on alignment, energetics, fluidity of movement, and mind/body connection. ‘There is yoga for every type of person to enlighten and enrich lives’.
MICHELE GILES
Michele Giles has been teaching yoga for 18 years, and knows first hand the amazing benefits of a regularHavingpractice.competed internationally in a sport for 5 years – she sustained a back injury whilst competing onYoga, stage.and especially Core Power yoga, has totally erased any potential issues of a herniated disc in her lower back.
So Core Power Vinyasa Flow yoga is for everyone of every level. This class is tailor made to who ever is attending on the day.
It creates a flexible, strong powerful, connected body and mind, no matter where your start point is.
PAULA WADE
Stepping on to a yoga mat 20 years ago, primarily for the physical benefits, Paula found that a regular practice was not only helping to calm her incessant overthinking, it was providing her a sense of solitude within the rat race as a PA in the city. This sparked a deeper interest and awareness which eventually led her down the path to becoming a Yoga Teacher.
She has experience teaching mixed ability students, from those who enjoy a slow and soft de-stress after work to those that want to sweat it out in a hot class.
Her teaching style stems from a background in classical Hatha yoga with some flow elements, a hint of humour, and an emphasis on appropriate alignment and safe progression through the asana.
Paula is a British Wheel of Yoga accredited teacher, having
completed her teacher training at London’s triyoga. She has since trained as a Yoga for Cancer and a Yin Yoga teacher and is a British Wheel of Yoga Foundation Course Tutor.Challenging and enjoyable, Paula believes that yoga is for everybody and brings an inclusive and light hearted approach to her teaching.
Unlimited studio classes are now included in Gym and Co-Working Membership packages, please contact information.sopershouse.co.ukshelley.maxwell@formore

THE FIRST Sópers House quiz was held on the evening of 12 May. Fully sold-out in advance, the capacity event was attended by 120 people in teams of 6. An indian buffet was provided to kick things off and at 7pm sharp the quiz, hosted by Gavin Inskip, began!
The theme of the quiz was “What was that all about?”, referring to the periods of lockdown and uncertainty over the Covid19 pandemic. The challenging sections really pushed the knowledge of the teams - with a certain amount of common sense thrown in for good Themeasure.winning
result at the end of the night was a tie between “Datum Devils” and “Smith’s Schoolwear”.
Gavin Inskip is a TV and Radio presenter and friend to Sópers House. He’s also well-renowned in the media and entertainment industry for hosting the ‘best quiz ever’. He’s the resident Quiz Master for Soho House in the UK and the UK’s leading ‘Celeb Quiz Master’.

HOW TO AVOID
Running Injuries
WITH (hopefully!) sunnier and longer days upon us, April is a great time of year to get your running shoes on. As a keen runner myself, I understand the appeal; it’s pure, it’s meditative, and it gets your blood pumping like little else.
Unfortunately, for all its positives, running can be problematic for the body and it tends to bring out minor issues and turn them into major ones. These often include achilles tendonitis, shin splints, plantar fasciitis, ITB syndrome, stress fractures, hip and lower back issues, and more knee problems than I have time to list.
Many of the problems from running come from two areas. Firstly, heel strike which is where the heel hits the ground repeatedly and sends a shock through the
The first article from Andrew Doody, Principal Osteopath at Fleet Street Clinic, and also here at Sópers House.
‘ INTOISSUESTOBODYPROBLEMATICRUNNINGFORUNFORTUNATELY,ALLITSPOSITIVES,CANBEFORTHEANDITTENDSBRINGOUTMINORANDTURNTHEMMAJORONES’
whole skeleton which causes issues from the heel itself all the way up to the lower back. Secondly, gait - which is the way a person walks; the whole lower limb (especially the knee) is quite finely tuned to work in certain ways, and anything that affects that can begin to cause problems. A dropped arch, tight muscle, old injury, slight one-sidedness etc can bring these issues on.
What can be done to prevent theseLikeissues?always, the number one rule is to get any symptoms you are experiencing looked at as soon as possible. Early diagnosis, advice and treatment is vital.
One thing that can really help heel strike and gait is by getting the right trainers.
Here’s a few things to consider:
1. Don’t confuse fashion and effectiveness. Good running trainers generally don’t look cool! Some of the bigger brands will advertise to you that they are great for sports but do your research. I would usually recommend Asics or Brooks.
2. Replace your shoes regularly. The soles of most trainers are good for about 200-250 miles maximum.
So, if you’re running 20 miles per week, you’ll probably need to replace them after 4-6 months. The shoe may still look okay after that but there is an increased risk of injury. It is, therefore, important to ensure that you are replacing your trainers as regularly as required.
3. You don’t need to buy the most recent model. Many of the best running trainers are on their 20th/30th or so iteration. When a new model is released the price of the last couple of iterations will drop quite significantly, and will still be an excellent option.
4. Good arch support. Trainers largely work on preventing pronation etc. by the way they flex. Many have little if any arch support, even with good ones you may need an additional orthotic insole made for your specific needs. This may also mean you need half a size bigger.
5. Speak to the experts. A running machine in a shoe shop is useful, but remember the shop assistant has probably only had a brief introduction in what to look for, and no idea of your other contributing factors. Speak to a specialist – an osteopath, podiatrist, or physio.
ANDREW has invited readers to ask any questions they might have regarding any musculo-skeletal problems, from back and neck pain, to headaches, sports injuries, arthritis, fibromyalgia, neuralgia/sciatica, postural related problems, joint pain or exercise/lifestyle advice.
