The City of Mission, in partnership with more than 30 local sponsors, hosted a Community Mass Food Distribution on Tuesday, March 9 at the Mission Event Center. Local leaders and business owners donated the resources to purchase the food from the RGV Food Bank. “On top of the devastation caused by the winter storm, we are still in the midst of a pandemic,” Mayor Dr. Armando O’Caña said. “I want to thank our staff and volunteers for their tremendous effort to feed our city. I would also like to thank all of our partners and sponsors for working with us to support our families during this crucial time.”

Mission residents drove up to the event to receive 10 pounds of chicken, 10 pounds of assorted dry foods, water, fresh tomatoes and a coupon for a free haircut. As a COVID-19 precaution, the food distribution was held in drive-through fashion, and volunteers placed the food into each vehicle’s trunk.
