Non-Profit Spotlight - The Salvation Army

NON-PROFIT SPOTLIGHT

The Salvation Army of Hidalgo County

The Salvation Army of Hidalgo County is committed to “Doing The Most Good”, supported by our donors and partners who share a desire to help our neighbors in need. When hard times hit, we are here to meet all of the basic needs--whether it’s a bag of groceries, a hot meal, or assistance paying rent. It is our mission to meet human needs wherever possible.

There are always people in need in our community, and the demand for our services has increased in the last year. The Salvation Army has been offering assistance to Hidalgo County residents since 1931 and will continue to do so with the help of the community.

The Salvation Army offered 7,510 food boxes, rental assistance for 133 families, 503 box fans/30 A/C Units, and 219,186 hot meals provided from our Soup Kitchen. These services are a few of what we offer under our roof, and this doesn’t include seasonal programs like Angel Tree. Angel Tree is very to dear to our hearts because it’s a time for giving and, most importantly, for reaching out to those families that might not have the resources to buy their children toys for Christmas.

When disaster strikes, The Salvation Army staff and volunteers respond. Canteens or mobile feeding units are set up to provide food, beverages, emergency shelter and emotional and spiritual care.

The mission statement of The Salvation Army, an international movement, is an evangelical part of the universal Christian Church. Its message is based on the Bible. Its ministry is motivated by the love of God. Its mission is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human needs in His name without discrimination.
