One of the greatest joys of gardening for wildlife is getting to see birds, butterflies, and many other creatures from the comfort of your yard. Not only does gardening for wildlife help sustain biodiversity in our towns and cities, but it also has numerous benefits for people too. Trees provide shade, cooling nearby buildings and lowering electric bills during hot weather. A number of studies have also shown that being out in nature – around plants and animals – helps reduce stress and improves mental health.

As more and more land is developed for humans, our wildlife gardens become more and more important. Wildlife gardens can serve as stepping stones to larger parks with native landscaping. Anyone with a bit of a garden or patio can help our wildlife while beautifying your home. Quinta Mazatlán offers “Gardening for Wildlife” programs that can help you design a space for birds and butterflies. Birds and butterflies are said to have a symbiotic relationship with plants and flowers, so learn which natives to plant in your garden!

In tune with the season, the “Gardening for Wildlife” presentations cover how to make your yard a place for Monarch butterflies to refuel for their journey north and what to plant to support the Valley’s many pollinators and incredible diversity of birds.
