PINNACLE - Q4 2023

MIAMI BEACH WINS PROJECT OF THE YEAR! The Miami Beach Convention Center (MBCC) was recently awarded the 2023 Project of the Year Vision Award by the 15th Annual Urban Land Institute Southeast Florida/Caribbean Chapter for their massive renovation and expansion project. The extensive $640 million project has transformed the facility into a lush 25-acre site and 1.4 million sq. foot building that celebrates its position as the civic and cultural heart of Miami Beach. Smart City is honored to be partnered with such a beautiful and vital convention center and we congratulate MBCC on their award!

WEST COAST FIBER TRAINING The Anaheim Convention Center hosted a Corning fiber optic training session for Long Beach, Los Angeles, and Anaheim team members this quarter. Roy Otterson, a Technical Field Support Specialist with Corning, and a former Vista-United Telecommunications team member, trained attendees on fiber history, types, applications, handling and testing and more. Attendees included Frank Cruz and Eleazar Martinez (Long Beach), Adolfo Ramirez, Earvin Claros, Danielle Castillo, David Daumit, Keely McGaffin and Henry De La Rosa (Los Angeles), and Jacob Huerta, Bill Heyer, Marco Fierro, Kevin Romero, Bryan Flores and Josh Poston (Anaheim). Special thanks to Ken Schmidt, our director of Regional Operations – Southwest, for arranging this on-site training for our teams.

REAL WIRE WIZARDS! At Smart City, we constantly look to enhance and improve our networks to deliver the best technological solutions to our clients. This quarter saw the continuation of our network upgrade at I-X Center and welcomed guests including Minneapolis Convention Center General Manager Brian Clear, and our Director of Regional Operations in the Midwest, Chris Pendleton, who stopped by to lend a helping hand. On top of that work, a new network upgrade began and finished at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center in Dallas. Our local team, lead by General Manager Rey Crespo, worked tremendously hard to inventory, remove, and install over 120 network devices throughout the KBHCCD. The core gear cutover took the Dallas team 14 non-stop hours of work. This one night/day included removing and installing two core distribution switches, wireless controllers, firewall, and rewriting over 180 Fiber connections. Smart City would like to especially thank our team members, Walter Quintanilla, Nycole Smith, Kennth Nguyen, and Kyle Rainey for all their commitment and dedication to getting this job complete in a timely manner! © 2023 Smart City Networks.
