Dear Neighbors,

REC BOARD NEWS

Before I begin my Supervisor’s report, I would like to thank all of you that voted for me in the recent election for board supervisor. I truly appreciate the confidence that you have placed in me and will continue to work hard on behalf of the residents of Phase IV.

Your board has been busy with various projects, including the re-paving and walkway repairs to the parking lots at the main clubhouse and the parking area at the maintenance building adjacent to Satellite 2. In addition, we have re paved the parking areas at the satellites and replaced the original forty-year-old roof on the maintenance shed and are in the process of replacing the fence around that building.

The board has approved the installation of fountains and aerators at various lakes in our community which will greatly improve the quality of the water in these lakes as well as enhance the beauty of these areas. The satellites are being refreshed with new chairs and umbrellas and the pool decks are being painted.

Thanks to all of you for your support as we continue to move forward in 2024.

NEED A PARKING SPACE? PARKING SPACE RENTALS FOR OWNERS ONLY

The paving project at the Main Clubhouse and the tennis court parking lots have beencompleted. Prior to this paving project the asphalt on the lots was the original asphalt that was laid down in 1994. This was a huge accomplishment for the District and a long time coming.

The Board of Supervisors has a fiduciary responsibility to the members of the District. It is our goal to try to increase revenue and save money without compromising quality. We make every attempt to accomplish these goals without raising the User Fee. We continue to challenge ourselves daily to become more creative in ways that we can increase the revenues. The District’s revenues consist primarily of the income from the User Fee. The remaining revenues are derived from Box Office Sales, Theater, Banquet Room and Satellite rentals.

In an attempt to create another revenue resource, the District will now begin leasing parking space to those owners who may be interested in an assigned parking space for any additional vehicles and or small crafts. Motor homes, motorcycles, storage pods and any other uncategorized items that the District Manager deems inappropriate will not be allowed. There are 18 parking spots available. The assigned area will be the enclosed parking lot adjacent to the tennis court, off the Nob Hill entrance. As this is only beginning to evolve, we need to insure that we have covered all the details, such as insurance liability, and towing contract among other things. This is not set in stone. We are exploring and looking for opportunities that will benefit the community.

Realizing that many owners will have different opinions as we move along with these challenges, please keep in mind, that our costs continue to increase. Remaining in status quo mode is not an option. The only other alternative would be to increase the User Fee. Being flexible and open to change will help us achieve our goals in this wonderful premier community.

Respectfully,

Sunrise Lakes Phase 4 Recreation District Security ID Updates

March has been a very busy month for the District with the updating of the District’s Owners Id cards. Thank you to all of the owners who updated their Ids. The District will begin implementing the new security system on Monday April 1st. All owners will be required to show their IDs when entering the main clubhouse or using one of the District’s Five satellites.

Their is no cost to update your current ID card. New owners will be required to present evidence of purchase. There will be a $25 administrative fee per card. As a precursor to the implementation date, owners may want to review the District’s Rules & Regulations on our website wwwlsl4recdistrict.com.

Those owners who have not updated their Id and wish to use the amenities at the main clubhouse will have the option of updating their ID when they next visit the clubhouse. Those owners who prefer not to update their Id’s and wish to access the main clubhouse through security or the golf office, will need to go the Box Office and have their ID verified prior to using the facilities. Please note, the latter will require that you enter the clubhouse during Box Office hours which are 8am to 4pm.

The District would like to thank the owners for their cooperation during this transition. We are confident that this new security system, will allow us to enhance our security measures. This will ensure that owners that are up to date in their User Fees and are residents of our community and are receiving the full enjoyment of the wonderful amenities we have to offer at Sunrise Lakes Phase 4 Recreation District.

Thank You,

RECREATION DISTRICT TRANSPORTATION SERVICE

The Recreation District is investigating the benefits of purchasing or leasing a small passenger bus. This will give many of our residents who are unable to drive an opportunity to enjoy the many activities and events the District has to offer at the Main Clubhouse. The funds for this purchase will come from the returns on the investments our District has been receiving and will not increase the User Fee.

We would like to hear from the community. Your thoughts or opinions. Feel free to call us at (954) 748-3230. Just ask to speak to someone who can assist you with filling out the form.

The survey form can also be found on our website at: www.sl4redistrict.com.

Thank you in advance for your comments.

NOTICIAS DE LA JUNTA

¿NECESITAS ESPACIO?

Respetuosamente,

Yvonne Hepler

HEALTH NEWS

Exercise Can Drop Your Risk of Stroke

Even low amounts of physical activity per day can significantly improve stroke risk. While most fitness guidelines focus on an ideal amount of physical activity per day for good health, a new study indicates that even low levels of physical activity are an improvement over doing nothing at all. The findings also align with the World Health Organization’s 2020 guidelines on physical activity, which emphasize the message: “some physical activity is better than none.” “[The study] seems to be in line with other research that’s been published recently that shows that even low levels of physical activity can have tremendous benefits in terms of overall health and affecting mortality,” Dr. Michael Fredericson, Dir. of the PM&R Sports Medicine and co-director of the Stanford Center on Longevity at Stanford Medicine. He wasn’t affiliated with the research. In the study, published March 5 in BMJ Journal of Neurology, Neurosurgery & Psychiatry, scientists performed a meta-analysis on 15 study articles after reviewing more than 3,000 studies on “leisure-time physical activity,” a catch-all term for any kind of physical activity, no matter the intensity. It encompasses a range of activities from gardening and walking to hiking, biking, and weightlifting. “We performed a comprehensive meta-analysis of studies including the general population to assess the risk of stroke associated with different levels of leisure-time physical activity. Our most significant result was that even a small amount of physical activity can decrease the risk of stroke,” Dr. Raffaele Ornello, MD, Phd, a neurologist and researcher at the University of L’Aquila, in Italy, and author of the study.

An inactive or sedentary lifestyle is an established risk factor for many chronic diseases, including obesity, heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and stroke. While that is well known, just how much physical activity someone needs to see health benefits isn’t as clear. In fact, the study points out that there isn’t even a consensus about the minimum amount of physical activity to decrease risk of stroke. So, in a world where only one-in-four US adults meet physical activity guidelines, it’s understandable why researchers would want to know what the effects of doing even the bare minimum amount of exercise are on serious outcomes like stroke. But they’ve picked up a clear signal from across 15 previously published articles that even minimal amounts of physical activity improved the risk of stroke, independent of age and sex. Compared to individuals who did no leisure-time physical activity whatsoever, those who did even small amounts reduced their risk of stroke by between 10-30%. The study also found confirmatory results when looking at specific kinds of stroke outcomes. For ischemic stroke, the most common type of stroke, which is caused by an obstruction in a vessel supplying blood to the brain, individuals who demonstrated low levels of physical activity had a 13% reduction in risk compared to those with none. Results were similar for hemorrhagic stroke, a less common form of stroke that occurs when a blood vessel bursts and begins to bleed in the brain.

The bottom line

Even small amounts of physical activity can significantly improve your risk of stroke, according to a new study. The more active you are, the better the health effects, but the study indicates that some is better than none at all. Physical activity includes anything from gardening to jogging to weight lifting, so there are options for people of all ages and fitness levels to engage in.
