ST KEVIN’S COLLEGE VISUAL STYLE GUIDE
The purpose of this style guide is to help individuals, departments and external agencies prepare promotional material which is consistent with the designated St Kevin’s style.
The style guide clearly explains the corporate style for all official college documents, from advertising and brochures, to stationery and business cards. Typography and corporate colours are outlined in a user-friendly manner and advice is given for writing, producing and placing advertisements.
The key to St Kevin’s visual Identity is the crest, it serves to brand all documents and promotional material and helps St Kevin’s stand out in the marketplace. This mark will become a valuable asset if correctly presented.
This manual covers the correct use of the St Kevin’s College symbol and presentation of the college name and positioning statement. It also covers specifications for items already designed and guidelines for possible future uses.

CORPORATE IDENTITY ST KEVIN’S CREST
The core of the St Kevin’s College visual identity is the crest.
The college crest was adopted by Br Kearney in 1933. The four quarters of the shield bear the Celtic cross, recognising our Irish beginnings; the Star of Knowledge; the Southern Cross, which symbolises us as Australians; and the book inscribed with Alpha and Omega, which symbolises God, the beginning and end of all.
Surmounting the shield is the crest, which comes from the Celtic cross and represents our faith in God. Below the shield is a scroll bearing the motto Omnia Pro Deo, or “All for God”. This is taken from a letter of St Paul. It urges us to see everyone as belonging to God and all our activities directed to God.
It is important to present the image of St Kevin’s College in the best possible manner. In order to optimise the appearance of the corporate identity, it has been designed with both black and white and colour versions.
The elements of the corporate identity should be applied in accordance with the following guidelines.
3
CORPORATE IDENTITY ST KEVIN’S CREST
The college crest comes in two variations: Full Colour Crest and College Crest Outline (see page 7). The Full Colour Crest should only ever be used on a blue or white background.
Over the past 100 years, many variations of the St Kevin’s College crest have been used. The current and correct crest should have:
Yellow (not gold) frame of the crest
White fill in the Omnia Pro Deo banner.
If you come across, or are using, a crest that is not current and correct, please contact the Communications Department and they will be able to provide you with the correct crest.
CLEAR SPACE
The college crest should always have breathing room. The minimum amount of white space should be the width of the Celtic cross.
4
THE CREST WHAT TO AVOID
1. The Full Colour Crest should never be converted to black and white. If a black or white image of the crest is needed, please use the College Crest Outline.
2. The colours of the crest should never be changed. The official college colours are laid out on page 16 of this manual.
3. The proportions of the crest should never be changed. When resizing the crest, always use the “keep proportions” option or hold SHIFT while changing the scale.
4. The college crest should never be displayed on an angle.
5. The crest should not be used as an overlay or underlay on images. This technique should be used sparingly and only with the College Crest Outline or logotype.

THE CREST OUTLINE
The College Crest Outline has been provided in three colours: blue, white and black. These can be used in stationery, photo overlays and as transparencies.
The blue and black College Crest Outline should only be used on a white background. The white College Crest Outline can be used on a blue background or sparingly over photographs.
Please note: the fill of the banner under the shield should match the colour of the outline of the crest.
6
THE CREST OUTLINE
A version of the College Crest Outline that includes the three school colours has also been created.
These versions are generally reserved for printed documents such as school publications (eg. Omnia, Annual), letterheads and envelopes.
These variations should never have the logotype used with them.
The proportions of the College Crest Outline must not be altered in any way.
The SKC flag is now a recurring element that appears across a range of branded collateral, from the website through to policy documents and letterheads. It usually appears as 2cm wide (or 60px) but is scalable, depending on context.

Distance from edge of page should be equal to height of shield

THE CREST OUTLINE WHAT TO AVOID
1. The colours of the College Crest Outline should never be changed. The official school colours are laid out on page 16 of this manual. The exception to this rule is when the crest outline is being used as a spot varnish on printed publications.
2. The proportions of the crest should never be changed. When resizing, always use the “keep proportions” option or hold SHIFT while changing the scale.
3. When using the crest outline as a watermark or transparency, the opacity should be dropped to 30%.
4. Do not create your own variations of the College Crest Outline. This style guide has provided multiple variations that should suit every requirement.

CORPORATE IDENTITY PHOTOGRAPHY
Using cohesive and consistent photography throughout the college’s publications will help reinforce the college’s values, personality and corporate identity.
The photos should vary across campus location as well as subject. The photography should show the diversity of the college. Candid shots are preferred and stock imagery should never be used. Natural lighting is always best.
Always check that the uniform of any subjects are in perfect condition (ties tied, top buttons done, socks up etc).
*Ideally the Communications team would take a series of staged hero images of students at the start of the school year. However, this could be done every two years, with the exception of the college and house captains who should have professional photos taken each year.
For formal staged photos, ask the boys to make sure their blazer buttons are done up correctly. If standing in a single line, split them down the middle and ask them to stand at 45 degree angles facing the centre. If they are seated, make sure to have their hands in fists on their knees.

APPLICATIONS DOCUMENTS
The Communications team have designed a range of document layouts and templates that will cover all the needs of the college.
These layouts can be categorised into these main categories: documents, forms and booklets.
COVER PAGES
There are two options that can be used when a title page is required.
Option one
A hero image with a blue gradient map, centred in the page with the flag crest and “St Kevin’s College” over the image.
The title of the document will be at the bottom of the page, centre aligned, underneath the photo.
This is the preferred cover page.
Option two
This option should be used when a suitable image can not be found or if it would be inappropriate to use an image for the document (eg. policies)
Option two uses the flag crest in the top centre of the page with “St Kevin’s College” located in the centre top third of the page. The title of the document will sit immediately below.
Where necessary, the date of the document can be placed at the bottom of the page, centre aligned.

Guest Speaker Vin Sammartino (SKC ‘82)
Vin Sammartino has a great story to tell in 2019. A proud Kevinian, having been successful in many walks of life such as study, establishing himself well in family and business since walking the corridors of St Kevins. He also happens to be in a special position to know how to be successful in the ‘Sport of Kings’. Vin and the connections through Lloyd Williams have won two Melbourne Cups with Almadin (2016) and Rekindling (2017). Some people work forever and never win one yet Vin with his partners have two. In 2019 Vin will be able to have great insights into the current horse racing industry and we look forward to him being with us and sharing at the SKOCA Annual Dinner. Come and see both Melbourne Cups at the dinner.
