Annual Fund 15 Kicks Off
With the fall season comes the start of school and the beginning of the SJCC Annual Fund Drive. The past 14 years of annual fund drives have generated over $1,500,000. These funds have supported SJCC in areas of student religious retreats, technology, the science department, faculty/staff salaries and development. This dollar amount reflects the generosity of SJCC alumni and friends but in no way measures the talent or amount of volunteer time spent working in the building or on projects outside of SJCC such as the Naderer Sports Complex and the Coleman Wrestling Building. We are blessed to have so many loyal, caring alumni and friends who support SJCC. The 2008-2009 Annual Fund 15 is being chaired by Jim Yeager ‘70 and Jerry Freeh ‘47. How foutunate SJCC is to once again have their leadership. This year’s goal is $150,000. Your annual gift helps fill the “Gap” between tuition and the actual cost to educate a child. The current 2008-2009 School Year figures are: Cost to educate one student (prior year) $6,456 Tuition-if active parish member $4,050 Tuition “Gap” per student $2,406 The $2,406 “Gap” per student must be provided through the generosity of parish subsidy, fundraisers, and financial donors in order to continue the legacy of SJCC. The cost to educate does not include Student Services which are athletics, cafeteria, development, public relations, school publications, and capital improvements. The hard work of the SJCC faculty and staff is evident in the following statistics of the 2008 seniors and sophomores (class of 2010)
The senior class of 2008 was offered $989,000 in scholarships and 98% went on to higher education. SJCC Sophomores OGT results Best in the Area Three Years in a Row! Reading 98% Passed Writing 100% Passed Math 98% Passed Science 96% Passed Social Studies 96% Passed 93% OF SJCC SOPHOMORES PASSED ALL FIVE TESTS 86% of Toledo Diocese Sophomores passed all five tests 67% of Ohio Sophomores passed all five tests
Capital Campaign Nears Successful Completion This year we celebrate the final phase of our Generations of Commitment Capital Campaign knowing that the goal of $2 million was surpassed! Those donors who made a five-year commitment to SJCC have completed their pledge or will complete it by the end of this school year. The campaign addressed creating endowed and annual tuition assistance scholarships, increasing the faculty & staff endowment and building improvements. 27 named endowed scholarships were formed with over $668,138 donated, $50,000 was donated to the general scholarship endowment and another $155,500 was donated to annual scholarships. This 2008-2009 school year 53 families were helped, a total of 60 students, with $50,540 in tuition scholarships. Faculty/staff endowment saw an increase of $49,500. This amount was donated to the capital campaign and placed in the “Light of Christ” Faculty and Staff Endowment Fund. Income from this endowment helps SJCC maintain salaries at 80% of the public schools. While the first two areas were successfully completed, the third area, building improvements, needed an additional $200,000 to replace the aged heating and ventilation system, build the cafeteria concession stand, create new office space and make electrical upgrades. To properly close our capital campaign we are asking annual fund donors to consider increasing their contribution this year. All funds donated above the Annual Fund goal will go toward retiring the $200,000 loan. If you choose, you can designate an amount to go directly to the loan reduction. SJCC cannot thank the Capital Campaign Steering Committee enough for their leadership and dedication with the first ever Capital Campaign. Tim Paradiso ‘77, the Campaign Chairman truly is an example of giving back. Tim spent countless hours in meetings and personal contacts and spoke this summer at the wrap up celebration. Fr. Earl Loeffler, Honorary Chair made many trips to Fremont, along with the out of state meetings. Jerry Wasserman ‘72, Jim Hoffman ‘67, Hal Hawk, Tom Dudley, Bob McCartney, Sue (Moyer ‘74) Barbour make up the rest of the Campaign Steering Committee. They spent many hours in meetings to help SJCC reach their goals. Once again thank you for your support and dedication.
