Friendly Circle Meeting
The Friendly Circle held it’s November 2019 meeting on Wednesday, November 13 at Akron Church of the Brethren. George and Phyllis Wolf greeted 122 members and six guests. President Jan Witmer welcomed everyone and wished 23 veterans in attendance a “Happy

Hex sign artist Eric Claypoole, a second-generation folk artist from Berks County, spoke to a packed room about his history in folk art and hex signs. He brought numerous examples of his work, which is sought out across the world. Eric is shown talking to the crowd about various hex sign designs. Veterans Day.” He also read a poem about veterans. World War II veterans Harold (Bingy) Bingeman and Donald (Bud) Garner were honored with a gift card. President Witmer also conducted the meeting. The theme song “The More We Get Together” was sung followed by “Living for Jesus” and “How Great Thou Art” led by Chorister Bob Groome. This was followed with the Red Rose Honor Guard giving a
presentation for all branches of the service by the playing of armed service songs. The Honor Guard led the Friendly Circle in the Pledge of Allegiance and “The Star Spangled Banner.” The Honor Guard also told them the history of the American Flag and showed them how to fold the flag and also telling the meaning of thirteen folds of the flag as it was being folded. It ends with the last fold when the flag is completely folded, the stars are uppermost,
reminding you of the national motto. “In God We Trust.” Assistant Pastor Chris Reinford from Akron Church of the Brethren was the meditation speaker. He also works with children in the Ephrata Area School District teaching, sharing and showing God’s love to the students. His first questions was “What is your identity?” and “Who are you?” He said he knows that depends on what life
deals with you that day, but always remember you are a child of God. Life brings many changes, success, failures, strength, sickness. (John 8:31-36) Freedom as Christians shows God’s promise. Continue in God’s word and the truth will set you free. Be who you want to be. Jesus came to set you free. After the delicious Thanksgiving meal made and served by the kitchen committee, Recording
Secretary Libby Rupp read the minutes of October’s meeting. Debbie Moyer gave the Treasurer’s report for October. Pat Bunting led the singing for 15 November birthdays and one for the November anniversary of Sharon and Lamar Levering, 27 years. Shirley Pierce reported sending two sympathy cards. Pat Witmer reported changes in the addresses of some members. (Continued On Page 2A)
Veterans Receive Special Recognition During Friendly Circle Program
The Friendly Circle honored all the veterans in attendance at their Wednesday, November 13 meeting at Akron Church of
the Brethren. Each veteran in attendance received a free meal in honor of their service for protecting America. Two World War II
veterans were honored with a gift card - Harold Bingeman and Donald (Bud) Garner.
