Sis en alt Saages; Zeit waardt fer ken Mann! Mer sett so viel duh imme Daag as mer kann. Viel welle Sache schpaeder duh - net heit! Sie vergesse; mer lewe uff gelehndi Zeit. Die Biewel saagt’s waert net letz fer Zeit verweile. Es gebt en Zeit fer lache un aa en Zeit fer heile, En Zeit fer hasse un en Zeit fer liewe, En Zeit fer Grieg un en Zeit fer Friede.

*** TIME

An old adage tells us: time waits for no man. We should do all we can in a day. Some prefer to procrastinate with things to do. They forget we live on borrowed time. For some time is too short, for others too long. They fear their time will be up too soon. We shouldn’t delay forgiving an enemy. We should take time to visit the sick or send cards. We should take time to help others if they are friends or strangers. Our biggest excuse is lack of time. In so doing, we neglect innocent people. The Bible states it’s not wrong to pass the time. There’s a time to laugh and a time to cry; also a time to hate and a time to love. Likewise, a time for war and a time for peace. There’s a time to be born and a time to die; a time to break down and also to build up. First, we should plant and then pluck. There’s also a time to mourn and a time to dance. We have clocks to tell us the time. To realize how time flies, observe Nature. Spring, summer, autumn and winter. Unless we keep it, we’ll fall behind.

ZEIT was written on April 27, 1987, almost one year ago to the day. In her daily devotional reading die Anna vun Bannwill came upon a familiar passage in Chapter 3 of the Book of Ecclesiastes. This was a favorite passage of one of her high school teachers who always read it on opening day of school. It was the inspiration for ZEIT. We need not tell our readers how excellent a poem ZEIT is. It is one of Anna’s finest! And this poem is most appropriate for this ECK, our 400th in the Ephrata SHOPPING NEWS!!! These have been happy years for us in The SHOPPING NEWS, we hope there will be many more of them.

As we write this ECK (on March 31), our ALDER KUMMRAAD, Ernest Waldo Bechtel, is in the West Reading Hospital. It is our prayer that he will be on the road to full recuperation by the time this ECK appears.

Consider Being An Organ Donor

There are so many people waiting for an organ donation. Please consider being a living organ donor. The gift is life changing. In search of a living liver donor – Joe Stoyanovitch, a lifelong member of the Lititz community, is in search of a living liver donor. He is a husband to his wife of 40 years, a father of two, and a grandfather of three. Following a cancer diagnosis in August of 2024 and months of tests and treatments, Joe has been approved for a liver transplant. His doctors have advised that a living donor is the best option for him. A living donor would allow him to receive a portion of a healthy liver from a living donor at a time that is convenient for the donor and would allow him to get to transplant before he may

become too ill to receive one.

The National Liver Registry has helped Joe to develop a custom website to share his personal story and to spread the word to potential donors. The website also provides information about the living donor process. His website is: www.nkr.org/LWS982. By sharing his story, you can help to increase the number of people who may consider liver donation, as well as build awareness about the life-giving gift of living liver donation.

Fathers Are Wonderful People

Fathers are wonderful people, Too little understood, And we do not sing their praises As often as we should...

For, somehow, Father seems to be The man who pays the bills, While Mother binds up little hurts And nurses all our ills...

And Father struggles daily To live up to “his image” As protector and provider And “hero of the scrimmage”...

And perhaps that is the reason We sometimes get the notion, That Fathers are not subject To the thing we call emotion,

But if you look inside Dad’s heart, Where no one else can see You’ll find he’s sentimental And as “soft” as he can be...

But he’s so busy every day In the grueling race of life, He leaves the sentimental stuff To his partner and his wife...

But Fathers are just wonderful In a million different ways, And they merit loving compliments

And accolades of praise, For the only reason Dad aspires To fortune and success Is to make the family proud of him And to bring them happiness...

And like Our Heavenly Father, He’s a guardian and a guide, Someone that we can count on

To be always on our side.

Happy Father’s Day!

Happy Father’s Day to the man who taught me how to ride a bike, tell a good joke and always believe in myself. You’re my hero, my coach and my biggest fan always.

Thank you for always encouraging me to step out of my comfort zone, whether it was hiking that extra mile or taking that shot when I wasn’t sure I could make it. You’ve shown me that it’s okay to be a little scared, as

long as you keep pushing forward.

But you’re not just my dad. You’re the guy who believed in me even when I didn’t believe in myself.

I’m lucky to have someone who pushes me to be better and always has my back, no matter what.

I love you more than all the tools in your tool box.

It has not gone unnoticed all the little things you do to help around the house and help with anything that needs done. You never give up on any task and always find a way, and time, to get things done.

Happy Father’s Day to two of the best dads I know!

Today, I want to celebrate two incredible men who mean the world to me—and to our daughters.

Pop Pop is a gift I’ll never take for granted.

To my dad: thank you for your constant love and support. You so often drop everything to show up for our family—no hesitation, no complaints, just pure selflessness. “Don’t Faint”

Proverbs 24:10 - “If you faint in the day of adversity, your strength is small.”

The Hebrew word for faint means sink or relax. The word is elsewhere translated to become helpless, cease, collapse, slack, and to be discouraged.

We all face the prospect of fainting when “the day of adversity” (affliction, distress, trouble) comes and we can be sure it will come. We all will encounter adversity at one time or another. Job said it best, “as sparks fly upward, so man is born unto trouble,” and he would know. Job said, “Shall I accept prosperity only and not adversity

from God” (Job 2:10). Not only do we have affliction, distress and trouble, but the vibrant believer will also face trials. James 1:2-3 states, “my brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into various trials; knowing this, that the trying of your faith works perseverance.”

Adversity, trials and testing are the refiner’s fire… they are the furnace that burns off the dross… leaving pure metal. In Psalm 66:10 we read, “For you, O God, have refined us, as silver is refined.” Job 23:10 says, “He knows the way that I take; when He has tested me, I shall come forth as gold.”

Adversity is the acid test for the believer. That which is authentic can, and will be, tested. God tests us at times to reveal what we are really made of… Deut. 8:2 - “And you shall remember that the Lord your God led you all the way these forty years in the wilderness, to humble you and test you, to know what was in your heart, whether you would keep His commandments or not.”

Our Father already knows what we are really made of, but it’s necessary for us to know as well. How we react in the adversity will either bring glory to God or reveal that we need to grow in our walk with Him. In the scriptures, we can see some who fainted and those who were victorious when the day of adversity, trouble and trials came. Remember Elijah? He just had a fearless victory over the prophets of Baal (1st Kings 18). In the very next chapter, we see Elijah running in fear and failure from Jezebel who threatened to kill him. Elijah fainted. “Elijah was afraid and ran for his life. When he came to Beersheba in Judah, he left his servant there, while he himself went a day’s journey into the wilderness. He came to a broom bush, sat down under it and prayed that he might die. I have had enough, Lord, he said. Take my life; I am no better than my ancestors” (1st Kings 19:3, 4).

Remember Peter, who thought he was so committed

to the Lord proclaiming, “I will die before betraying you” (Matthew 26:35)? It was only a matter of hours and we hear the crowing of the rooster that very night - “then Peter went out and wept bitterly.” We don’t have to faint. Indeed, God would have us to be valiant, courageous, victorious and persevering.

Please remember Proverbs 24:10 states, IF we faint. How can we escape the temptation to sink, cease and collapse when adversity, trouble and trials strike?

Next week, we will study how to avoid fainting spells.

There were a total of 350 graduating seniors ready
to begin the next chapter in their lives. Shown in the photo, starting at top left going clockwise, are: Seniors heading onto the field; speakers (left to right)
Reese Wenger (salutatorian), Brooklyn Stauffer (valedictorian), Nicholas Ryan (class president), BreanaBelle Wigren and Alyssa Vasyanovich; Allurah McNally gestures
in appreciation to the crowd; Principal Scott Galen delivers his message; Averiana Bender shows off her diploma; Ileana Santiago is adorned in multiple Hawaiian leis
and holds a beautiful bouquet of roses; Eden Cunnane can hardly contain her excitement upon receiving her diploma; and
finally, cousins Reese Wenger (left) and Brooklyn Stauffer (right) are all smiles after the graduation ceremony concludes.

Please take this opportunity to donate blood. Since there is no substitute for human blood, and donors are the only source, this is a wonderful gift to those in need from all walks of life. Every two seconds, someone

needs blood, and the demand for blood continues to increase. In Central Pennsylvania, 275 to 300 units of blood and blood products are needed at area hospitals daily. An adequate supply is crucial to the survival of cancer patients, accident victims, children with blood disorders, and many others. Your donation helps to save and enhance the lives of these people, as just one pint of your blood can save as many as three lives.
