PIONEERING SUSTAINABLE WATER HEATING SOLUTIONS

A Conversation with Alberto Torner, Head of Ariston Group in the Middle East, Turkey, and Caucasus

In the realm of sustainable heating solutions, Ariston Group stands as a beacon of innovation, leading the charge towards a greener future. With a legacy spanning decades, the company has established itself as a global leader in the realm of water heating and space heating, components, and burners.

At the helm of Ariston Group in the Middle East, Turkey, and Caucasus, is Alberto Torner, a stalwart visionary who has steered the company towards new horizons.

Alberto Torner's journey in the Middle East is nothing short of remarkable. For nearly two decades, he has championed Ariston's cause in the region. "Ariston has been present in the Middle East since the 1970s, but it's in the last 15 years that we've truly expanded our footprint," Alberto reflects.

His team's true dedication and determination have surely contributed significantly to Ariston's enduring success in the region.

In an era that is characterized by environment consciousness, Alberto is keenly attuned to the evolving trends in the industry. "Our focus is on offering sustainable and green products," he shares. The Middle East, with its distinctive challenges, demands solutions that conserve energy while meeting growing demands.

Alberto explains, "Areas like Marina Hill are pushing for more sustainable options. We aim to provide products that are not only environmentally friendly but also minimize electrical load." Ariston's commitment to its diverse clientele is evident in its approach.

"Customization is the key," Alberto emphasizes. Addressing the unique needs of various sectors, Ariston offers a wide range of products. Alberto elaborates, "From solar systems to heat pumps, low kilowatt electric storage, and electric instantaneous units, we cater to a diverse array of requirements." The comprehensive product portfolio ensures that every

sector, from institutions like DEWA to commercial establishments, finds tailored solutions that align with their objectives.

Alberto's passion shines through as he delves into the intricacies of Ariston's technologies. One such innovation is the heat pump. "With a heat pump, you can save up to 80% of electrical consumption," he enthuses.

Unlike traditional methods, heat pumps harness ambient air to warm water, offering an energy efficient alternative. "It is basically reverse technology, similar to air conditioning," Alberto explains.

The result is a game-changer in sustainable Water Heating solutions.

We note that Ariston's commitment extends beyond product innovation. "We provide 24/7 after-sales service," Alberto assures. In an industry where reliability is paramount, Ariston stands out by addressing customer concerns promptly.

"Our technicians and engineers ensure that end users and contractors receive unparalleled support," he adds, highlighting the brand's dedication to customer satisfaction.

Recognizing the vital role plumbers play in the industry, Ariston Middle East introduced the myAriston Rewards program. "It's a unique initiative," Alberto notes proudly. The program rewards plumbers and small facility managemnt organizations with a range of benefits.

"We want to thank them for their support over the decades," Alberto expresses, reflecting Ariston's commitment to nurturing valuable partnerships.

Looking ahead, Alberto Torner is resolute in Ariston's commitment to excellence. "We are focused on

maintaining our leadership and supplying high-quality products," he affirms. Despite market challenges, Ariston remains steadfast in its dedication to providing premium solutions.

"Our 2030 Vision drives us to exceed expectations and deliver an excellent experience to our loyal customers," Alberto concludes, exemplifying the company's unwavering dedication to a sustainable and prosperous future.

SIX THEMES FOR MAXIMIZING TECH INVESTMENTS FOR BUSINESSES IN THE MIDDLE EAST

When technology spending and operations are discussed in executive suites, we often hear a mixture of frustration and concern. Senior executives are frustrated that, while ramping up investments in technology and talent, they’re not getting the payback they expected in value, speed, and cost-effectiveness.

And even though their organizations have been climbing the experience curve on digital capabilities, cloud computing, modularity, and automation, they now see a new wave of tech coming their way bringing web3, the metaverse, and artificial intelligence (AI).

Most are currently focused closely on cost, intent on reducing operational spending and ensuring that any new investments are realized successfully.

If technology generates value, then what is it that has to change? As companies adapt their operating model to enhance the value from their technology investments, they need to focus on technology that helps the business grow, as opposed to tech that just keeps the lights on.

But before any of those things occur, the most important change is a mindset shift. Executive teams have to stop thinking of their technology function as a cost center and begin to see it as a place where the company generates value.

This is an important shift, because it forces everyone to focus on outcomes. It changes the relationship between the business and technology, elevating tech leaders to become thought partners who collaborate with their business peers. Accountability grows, ideas flow in both directions, delivery speeds up, and quality increases.

SIX TRAITS OF SUCCESSFUL OPERATING MODELS

In our client work across industries, we’ve identified six key themes that successful companies apply to their operating models to realize greater value from their technology investments.

ADOPT THE PRODUCT MODEL.

Arguably the central theme in any operating model upgrade is to adopt the

product model rather than project-based work as the way to organize, manage, and resource technology and data investments and activities. This changes everything because it sets up persistent cross-functional teams that continuously focus on improving their product and its business outcomes. It places greater emphasis on the user’s needs, and it requires close collaboration and sometimes integration with the business.

INVEST FOR OUTCOMES

The shift to a product model supports an equally important change in funding: Executive teams fund a product area rather than individual projects. The company assigns persistent budgets to product teams and holds them accountable for delivering outcomes, such as increasing conversion of online baskets to sales, reducing call volume to human resources, or increasing visibility in the supply chain.

TALENT FIRST

Talent remains a critical topic on executives’ mind. Demand for top tech talent more than doubled between

INTERVIEW
| 12 | Global Trend Monitor

2015 and 2019. The nature of the job is also evolving quickly: 40% of the most in-demand jobs didn’t exist in 2015. And among those in demand, their expectations have changed; they can pick and choose where and how they work.

The pandemic spurred the adoption of a work-from-home model, and now flexibility (in location, timing, and choice of projects) remains a top criterion for choosing a job.

Other trends are shaping the market for top tech labor. Many companies have overinvested in watcher-type roles such as project managers and business analysts, which tend to be more expensive and create less value than thinker or doer roles.

GLOBAL SCALE, LOCAL TRACTION

In the past, there was a tension between executives who advocated for localization to appeal to consumers (or regulations) in specific countries or business units, and those who argued for centralization of systems and platforms across the company, to gain economies of scale and pool innovation.

More recently, it’s possible to please both. Cloud computing makes global scale more achievable, while modular architecture and APIs support the flexibility that allows for localization. The technology is so flexible that you can build things centrally and make it relevant for local brands or business units—something that wasn’t as easy to do 10 years ago.

DELIVERY EXCELLENCE

Adopting Agile ways of working, in teams and at scale, is an essential first step in improving the company’s ability to deliver quickly at the highest levels of quality. Another important action is implementing software engineering best practices, automated testing and release, and best practice for code writing and review.

Advances in AI can help here as well. Adopting best practices in software engineering can boost developer efficiency

by 25% to 50%, increase quality and stability of code by 20% to 40%, and deliver products 5 to 10 times faster.

ELEVATION OF TECHNOLOGY

Finally, and in line with a shift in mindset, at companies that say they’re getting their expected returns from technology investments, the relationship between technology and business has evolved from service provider to thought partner. One indicator of this is the number of companies that are raising their technology leaders to the C-suite. Ten years ago, only 10% of leading consumer packaged goods companies had their tech function in the C-suite; today, it’s about half.

Six traits can be a lot to focus on. Successful efforts select one or two areas for initial focus, build on success, and move on to other traits in sequence. Nearly everyone is looking for stronger results and more value from their investments in technology.

At the same time, cost pressures are leading most senior tech leaders to increase their scrutiny on technology spending. Evolving the technology operating model is an essential journey for tech leaders and their companies to achieve their goals.

NATURE OF LUXURY HAKAN OZEL

MANAGEMENT
Monitor

Luxury has become so popular that everyone wants to be in it. It has a history as old as humanity. It is very much found in fashion, architecture, design, manufacturing, service, retail, art, cars, watches, hotels, etc. Almost every financial player claims to offer some kind of luxury in their business models. Almost everyone in society would like to be a part of it.

People have started to produce a variety of luxury types, like premium luxury, ultra-luxury, hyper luxury, affordable luxury. As such, if everything is a kind of luxury, then luxury has no meaning. Luxury is luxury; it carries its own characteristics - with fine differences when compared with others.

Consumers have the freedom to define themselves in society through luxury, as long as they have spending power with the availability of money and time itself. This freedom creates a sort of social classification. Product is the base of luxury, which needs to have a fundamental function of creating a social classification.

In this respect, luxury brands are required to help consumers to make their dreams come true in society. This means anyone can create their own state of class through luxury and luxury-related brands with a new kind of excitement and freedom.

Product is the starting point in luxury. There is always a strong human touch, feeling and content from handmade to personalized and from person-to-person in every luxury product created, unlike other stuff from-shelf-to-person. Luxury consumers dream about moments of luxury experiences. It is not only the logo to share on the product, but enjoying the rarity, design, culture and quality of material and the spirit of acquiring it while transferring from one generation to another.

Luxury products are complemented by service. Service provides most of the consumers with the opportunity to access in one short experience what they imagine is the life of

wealthy consumers such as a stay in a luxury 5-star hotel, dinner at a famous restaurant, or rent a luxury car for a day during a family holiday.

We can’t remember every second of a 90-minute movie when we want to share with our families and friends. We only remember a couple of bespoke-actions, moments, and scripts, not every second. Luxury service is also like movies as we share the experiences of the journeys.

From the beginning till the end, we only remember bespoke actions, moments, and scripts of the journey, and share with others, be it positive or negative. All these dreams need excellent service organization, detailed and anticipating planning, and perfect delivery. The human touch is always required.

When the brands give consumers unique and bespoke experiences, which help them to make their dreams come true, save time, give them what is important and significant to them, and provide reliable information, they create luxury experiences for consumers to enjoy, remember, and most importantly share in society regardless of where and what they are selling. Time is the greatest luxury, which proves that luxury does not necessarily require to be the most expensive, but rare and precious to find and purchase.

Culture is the rooted nature of luxury products. When consumers buy a luxury product, they are not only buying the product itself, but its native cultural value. Imagine that when the guests stay in a luxury branded hotel, they encounter with products and services, rooted by the nature of company’s cultural origin.

Luxury brands should always remain relevant to their roots; they should be produced in the original location, should not move from one location to another due to economic reasons such as cost saving, and should give services while remaining loyal to its origins.

It is a dangerous risk that luxury brands forget their roots. Once separated from the roots, luxury brands become ordinary as they are recategorized to consumer goods brands, and undesirably find their values on the shelves for shelf-toperson business.

Luxury is amazing; it seduces the consumers. Once the consumers have a taste of luxury, it is difficult for them to turn away and leave.

From investors and executives to consumers, everyone becomes addicted to use, create and model it. They experience the pleasure of being close to it and make it a part of their life and culture. Luxury is now an uncompromising part of our lives.

FIVE TIPS ON HOW TO OVERCOME THE DIGITAL SKILLS GAP

Many companies, especially in the IT and technology industry, are currently in a so-called battle for talent. Here are five practical tips to combat the digital skills gap:

MAKE CONTINUING EDUCATION A STRATEGIC PRIORITY

Due to demographic change, the shortage of skilled workers is becoming even more acute. As a result, the war for talent is also getting tougher. This makes it all the more important to exploit existing potential and develop employees further. Training and continuing education should be firmly anchored in the corporate strategy.

To achieve this, companies need clear goals and an agenda. As a rule, the

HR department is responsible for the training programs and works closely with the specialist departments, in this case with the CIO.

At NetApp, for example, there is the NetApp University with a mixture of mandatory and elective courses. In addition, employees can use the LinkedIn learning program to build up skills on their own.

CREATE FREE SPACE FOR DEVELOPMENT

Every employee should have the chance to discover their own potential and shape their own career. It is therefore important to enable self-determined learning and to offer a wide range of training and courses. Further development should be integrated into everyday working life and

be perceived as something quite natural. In practice, this often fails due to busy schedules: Employees simply do not have the time to concentrate on learning.

To counteract this and create more freedom, NetApp has introduced a meeting-free day once a month. CIOs should also give employees the opportunity to swap roles with a colleague. This broadens horizons and creates understanding for other perspectives.

OFFER "TRAINING ON THE JOB" PROGRAMS

In addition to further training measures, companies need a strategy for attracting young, well-trained talent. Effective measures include graduate programs and "training on the job" models that

TECHNOLOGY
| 20 | Global Trend Monitor

integrate junior staff early on and make it easier for them to get started. By bringing digital natives together with older employees in mixed teams, the different generations can learn from each other.

The young learn about leadership and what makes the company tick, while the older employees benefit from the agility of the junior staff. It's also important to have networking opportunities to share

and grow with other experts. To this end, employees should have the opportunity to attend tech events, conferences, partner events and customer meetings.

PROMOTE JUNIOR EXECUTIVES

The next generation of IT leaders needs digital skills and must be agile, open and solution-oriented. To build these skills, companies should nurture young talent so they can grow into leaders over time. To that end, NetApp launched the S3 Academy three years ago, a twoyear global development program for emerging talent.

The program balances technical training with soft skills development. In addition, companies should create an attractive environment in which employees can work flexibly, agilely and independently.

MAKE IT EASIER FOR WOMEN TO ENTER AND ADVANCE

Women are still underrepresented in IT professions. There is a lot of potential lying dormant here for the labor market. By positioning themselves as attractive employers for women, companies can

attract new talent. Flexible working and parental leave models, mentoring programs and individual coaching, for example, play an important role in this.

Companies should also focus more on women in recruiting and employer branding and make it clear that they live a culture of equality. Special employee groups such as "Women in Technology" also enable women to build strong, overarching networks and support each other.

CONCLUSION: EXPLOIT ALL POSSIBILITIES

The increasing shortage of skilled workers on the one hand and the growing need for IT and data expertise on the other mean that the digital skills gap is widening. In order to remain competitive, companies should exhaust all possibilities to counteract this development.

Those who place greater emphasis on further training, promote junior staff and live a culture of equality and further development can build up and expand valuable skills. In this way, the shortage of skilled workers will not become a showstopper for digitization.

THE NEXT GENERATION OF IT LEADERS NEEDS DIGITAL SKILLS AND MUST BE AGILE, OPEN AND SOLUTIONORIENTED.

3 WAYS OF TURNING THE UAE’S TALENT SHORTAGE TO YOUR ADVANTAGE

Let’s talk talent. In the UAE and across the world, there is a shortage of it, but demand is greater than ever. The oldest of Generation X will retire within the decade, so catering to younger people, and their digitalnative proclivities, is critical to ensure brand longevity.

With the right moves, there is a way of turning the talent shortage to your advantage. Here are three ideas to consider.

1. TALENT-AS-A-SERVICE

If you have been an IT decision maker over the past couple of decades, then this scenario must ring true. You read about, or hear about, Company X adopting AI and achieving enviable results. But the project costs millions

of dollars that you just don’t have and so following in Company X’s footsteps seems out of reach. That is, until you hear about this new way of consuming software through subscription.

You learn — to your ecstatic delight — that Software-as-a-Service allows you to pay for what you use in a predictable way. You are hooked and never look back.

What if we could do the same thing with talent? Talent-as-a-Service, or more precisely, Expert-as-a-Service, would allow you to shop for specific skills rather than a whole employee.

Part of the region’s IT skills gap problem is the fact that if you hire an expensive specialist they will take

time to add value because they need to learn about your organization before they can effectively identify use cases.

But if you hire, say, three people to fulfil a single data scientist role, while each would have to learn your company history, culture, and objectives, if any of them were to leave, the role would still be served by two others with domain knowledge. You maintain knowledge momentum that cannot be achieved in the classical recruitment-and-attrition cycle.

What’s more, the quality of your innovation is enhanced by the fact that talent in such a fluid market will be more likely to speak up and add value by pointing out opportunities

TECHNOLOGY
| 22 | Global Trend Monitor

for improvement. This is because they do not need to concern themselves as much with internal politics.

2. AUTOMATION AS STANDARD

Since we now routinely use the word “talent” to refer to our workforce, it is high time we faced up to the wasteful usage of those skills.

Every day, across the region, opportunities for potential innovation are squandered by having people doing repetitive, tedious things that would be far better done by machines or software.

Not only would human professionals be freed up to focus 100% of their time on the challenging issues they were hired to address, but the mundane tasks would see significant improvements in delivery speed and accuracy.

This practice of automation by default is often one of the first things humancapital specialists advise when trying to enhance the recruitment lifecycle. Attracting and retaining talent, you may have heard, is now dependent on more than remuneration; it is about employee experience.

Automation, introduced thoughtfully, can boost workforce engagement and lead to a rebirth of the brand in the labor market. Supplemented by a robust diversity and inclusion program, automation has the potential to create an extraordinarily innovative corporate environment that attracts the best talent around.

3. PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

As per a LinkedIn study, three in four UAE workers are considering a job move by the end of this year. And 74% said they were confident about asking for new opportunities and promotions. This is a chance for companies that may not have the budget to pay top dollar for employees to attract talent by demonstrating a commitment to offer well-defined career paths that ensure staff members never feel like advancement is out of reach.

One of the most common first steps to resignation is an employee asking themselves, “Where is this job going?” Feeling that their routine is stagnant and that there is no chance of change will accelerate the moves revealed by LinkedIn. Organizations must prevent the perception of a “dead man’s shoes” culture, where everyone waits for their line manager to be promoted to get their turn. Unsurprisingly, the answer lies in technology. Each year, greater proportions of the workforce are digital natives who, remember, love self-service.

Tech platforms can be used to empower workers to take control of their own careers. Amid a positive digital experience that includes work and admin being easier, why shouldn’t professional development follow this pattern?

There is one example of technology that provides opportunities for professional development and has the added luxury of adding business value above and beyond talent retention.

This is low-code development. Employees can hone their technology skills while businesses accelerate digital transformation.

The business also solves the problem of skills gaps by developing line-ofbusiness talent to provide those skills. The self-service nature of LCDPs (lowcode development platforms) appeal to millennials and Gen-Z.

And we can give them rich careers. LCDPs do not just facilitate development; they include governance and performancemonitoring capabilities that allow even those decision makers that are unfamiliar with the technology to receive actionable insight on which employees are suited to which roles within the digital enterprise.

CAPITALIZING ON CHANGE

If UAE companies are to make the most of global, macroeconomic challenges, they must look to their people, and reevaluate how they are treated. HR platforms that lubricate the gears of onboarding are important but not enough to lock employees in for the long haul, especially when applying for and transitioning to a new job is becoming easier by the day.

Organizations must invest in training for their leaders to ensure they are ready to meet the emotional needs of those under their guidance.

Building a sense of trust, more than anything else, can make the difference between being a victim of talent shortage and being a beneficiary of it.

BUSINESSES MUST LEARN TO LIVE WITH RANSOMWARE

Last year, 85% of organisations were hit by at least one ransomware attack, according to the Veeam Data Protection Trends Report 2023. With almost all organisations suffering these attacks, it’s clear that the problem is not only widespread but almost inevitable these days.

Though this might sound daunting, it’s by acknowledging this fact that we can manage this ever-present threat. So, let’s look at what solutions organisations can utilise to be able to live alongside ransomware.

INSURANCE ONLY GOES SO FAR

It’s clear that ransomware attacks are a very real and present threat - we see this every day, whether we’re watching the national news or sitting in the boardroom. Considering the ubiquity of these attacks, organisations need to be

aware that a ransomware attack is no longer a case of ‘if’ you’ll be the target of an attack but ‘how often.’ While a vast number of organisations experienced at least one attack last year, the Veeam Data Protection Trends Report also showed that just under half (48%) suffered two or three attacks. This can feel like an overwhelming prospect for an organisation of any size, and the natural consequence is that many turn to cyber insurance in search of some peace of mind.

Cyber insurance may pay for the damage caused by a ransomware attack, but it’s important to remember that it can never prevent or undo this damage or the ripple effect it creates like loss of customers and customer trust.

Education and transparency, however, can help prevent ransomware damage,

but this is sometimes curtailed by cyber insurance policies.

As ransomware threats have increased, so have the stipulations of cyber insurance providers. The recent Veeam Ransomware Trends Report also found that more than 20% of organisations indicated that ransomware attacks were not covered by their cyber insurance provider, and even when they are covered, some providers stipulate that companies cannot speak publicly about the breach.

The unfortunate consequence of this is that it keeps the reality of ransomware attacks - something so common - hidden away as a secret. Hopefully, this will change over the next few years, as it’s through educating others by sharing our learnings and mistakes that we can become stronger in our defence against ransomware attacks.

TECHNOLOGY
| 24 | Global Trend Monitor

This is because talking about ransomware attacks helps to dispel the mystery around them. Despite the frequency of ransomware conversations in the media, many people don’t know how they unfold - it can seem like the flick of a switch or a magic trick, but the reality is much more complicated and drawn out than this.

Bearing in mind that almost all organisations will be hit by a ransomware attack (many probably already have been), knowledge of the whole process is essential to the preparation and successful recovery.

RANSOMWARE IS THE BEAST THAT’S VISIBLE

Conversations about ransomware rarely acknowledge that a ransomware attack is the culmination of a series of events orchestrated by bad actors. Ransomware doesn’t just appear - it follows days, weeks, months, or even years, of laying the groundwork. Let’s run through what goes on behind the scenes.

Bad actors will first begin with an observation stage. During this time, they

will simply watch their target to gather information on people, processes, and technology to identify opportunities. As a burglar would first get familiar with where the entrances and exits are to a building, and who lives there, cyber criminals also like to know what they’re dealing with.

After this, it’s time to enter the building. For cyber criminals, this is achieved by sending phishing links or similar, to enable entry and the creation of a base of operations within the target’s infrastructure.

At this point, they remain out of sight, but it enables them to do some significant damage. Attackers will exfiltrate data at this stage and may also destroy backups completely undetected - until they make their presence known when launching the final stage, the ransomware attack and demand.

Discovering this full process is, naturally, overwhelming - security teams not only have to deal with the visible threats but are also dealing with some unknown and invisible foes that could be hiding in the background at any time.

However, the saying that ‘knowledge is power’ is once again proven true. Organisations can use this information to develop the strongest possible backup and ransomware recovery strategy.

DON’T LEAVE IT DOWN TO LUCK

While ransomware attacks are an inevitability, data loss doesn’t have to be. In fact, 100% resiliency is possible if the right precautions are taken. This might sound too good to be true, but with a few key elements, any organisation can develop an ironclad data protection strategy.

There are three parts to this. First, security teams need to ensure they have an immutable copy of their data so that hackers cannot alter or encrypt it in any way. Then, they need to encrypt their data so that if it is stolen or breached, hackers are unable to access it or make use of it.

The most important stage in really sealing the fortress is what we call the 3-2-1-1-0 backup rule. This means maintaining a minimum of 3 copies of your data so that even if two devices are compromised or fail in any way, you still have an additional copy - and it’s much more unlikely that three devices will fail. Organisations should also store these

backups on 2 different types of mediafor example, one copy on an internal hard disk, and another in the cloud.

Then, 1 of these should always be kept at a secure offsite location, and 1 should be kept offline (air-gapped) with absolutely no connection to the main IT infrastructure. The 0 stage is perhaps the most important of all: there should be zero errors in your backups. This can be ensured through regular testing and constant monitoring and restoration.

If these steps are followed, organisations can keep cool when a ransomware attack inevitably does hit - because they’ll be safe in the knowledge that they’ve locked the doors on hackers.

THE BOTTOM LINE:

Organisations will at some point face a ransomware attack - that’s the reality of the world we live in today, but with increasing awareness comes increasing preparedness. While a cyber- attack will always bring chaos, with the right strategy you can make it controllable chaos, and in the end, this makes all the difference.

CONVERSATIONS ABOUT RANSOMWARE RARELY ACKNOWLEDGE THAT A RANSOMWARE ATTACK IS THE CULMINATION OF A SERIES OF EVENTS ORCHESTRATED BY BAD ACTORS.

WHILE RANSOMWARE ATTACKS ARE AN INEVITABILITY, DATA LOSS DOESN’T HAVE TO BE.

FINANCIAL INDUSTRY RANKS SECOND IN MOST HYBRID MULTICLOUD DEPLOYMENTS

Nutanix, Inc. (NASDAQ: NTNX), a leader in hybrid multicloud computing, has today announced the financial services industry findings of its fifth annual Enterprise Cloud Index (ECI) survey, which measures enterprise progress with cloud adoption.

The research reveals that mixed deployments among financial companies are at 64%, which is slightly ahead of the global average, and data security considerations drive many of the financial sector’s infrastructure investment and application mobility decisions.

This remarkable adoption rate in financial services reflects the highly competitive industry's commitment to significantly enhance the customer experience, leveraging hybrid multicloud deployments to fuel digitalisation, advanced data capabilities, and modernise applications.

“Increased infrastructure diversity and a heightened emphasis on data storage, management, security, and cloud-native services are driving all IT professionals to seek hybrid operations that transcend private and public infrastructure.

As evidenced by recent regulatory measures such as the Digital Operational Resilience Act (DORA), operational resilience and concentration risk are additional driving factors to hybrid model adoption,” said Ian Haynes, EMEA Field CTO, Nutanix.

“For cloud deployment models, the financial services industry has emerged as a frontrunner, surpassing many other sectors in embracing the hybrid multicloud approach.”

KEY FINDINGS FROM THIS YEAR’S REPORT INCLUDE:

• Hybrid multicloud adoption has

accelerated and is expected to rise in financial services. The financial services industry has made significant progress in adopting cloud technology over the past year, with 64% of those surveyed using multiple IT environments – whether a mix of private and public clouds, multiple public clouds, or on-premises and hosted private infrastructure.

• Cybersecurity is the biggest IT infrastructure driver. The financial sector and global respondents prioritised cybersecurity above all else. This is not surprising, given the increasing sophistication of cyberattacks and the critical role that IT plays in financial services organisations.

• Mixed environments create new challenges and demand for a single place to manage all workloads and data. Most ECI respondents agree that having a single platform to manage their

TECHNOLOGY | 26 | Global Trend Monitor

diverse private and public infrastructures would be ideal. Among those from financial firms, 96% agreed.

However, only 42% reported actually having that visibility. The visibility findings indicate a gap in capabilities, highlighting the need for integrated tools to improve hybrid IT operations. Without visibility, IT teams are unable to manage, secure, synchronise, or analyse what they cannot see.

• The overriding driver of application movement among ECI financial services firms in the past year was to improve data access speeds. All respondents in the financial sector (100%) indicated that they had moved applications between IT infrastructures in the past 12 months. Nearly half (49%) cited a desire to accelerate data access as a reason for the move. This driver was followed by aspirations to improve their companies' security posture or better

meet regulatory requirements and to gain the ability to integrate with cloudnative services, such as AI and machine learning.

• Cost factors remain a wild card. ECI respondents tend to be fickle in their attitudes toward IT cost, which seems to be inching downward on IT priority lists – falling to last on global respondents’ infrastructure criteria lists and tying for fourth in importance among financial companies.

At the same time, most respondents rank controlling costs high on their list of challenges. For example, 87% of financial services respondents described cloud cost control as a challenge with managing their current IT infrastructures, and about a third said it was a significant one.

For the fifth consecutive year, Vanson Bourne conducted research on behalf of Nutanix, surveying 1,450 IT decisionmakers around the world in December 2022 and January 2023.

This report is supplemental to the global 5th Annual Enterprise Cloud Index master report and focuses specifically on cloud deployments within the financial services industry. It sheds light on the cloud plans, priorities, challenges, and experiences of IT professionals

operating in this sector, offering valuable insights for comparison with global responses and other industries. Gain a deeper understanding of the cloud deployment journey of financial services organisations and uncover key trends and benchmarks in this ever-evolving landscape.

A UNIQUE SENSE OF PLACE RONDA, SPAIN

Nestled amid the picturesque landscapes of Andalusia, Spain, the charming town of Ronda awaits, beckoning travelers with its timeless beauty and captivating allure. From its awe-inspiring attractions to its delectable culinary delights, Ronda stands as a testament to the rich history and unique experiences that Spain has to offer.

On our way to our home in Torrevieja, we stopped to explore this hidden gem, where every corner holds a story waiting to be discovered. Ronda's architecture is a testament to the passage of time, with each building and landmark telling a tale of the town's storied past.

We spent some time on the Puente Nuevo, an iconic bridge spanning the El Tajo Gorge as it is a marvel that leaves visitors awestruck. As we stood atop the bridge, gazing at the breathtaking views of the countryside and the river below, we couldn't help but marvel at the ingenuity of its construction and the history it witnessed.

Ronda's Plaza de Toros is unlike any other bullring in the world. Stepping into this historical arena, we were transported to an era where bullfighting was both

a spectacle and an art form. We took some pictures of my daughter while our guide talked about the past and led us to a museum within the bullring. the museum offers a glimpse into the traditions and cultural significance of this age-old practice, shedding light on its complexities and controversies.

Ronda's artistic heritage is evident in its many museums and galleries. The Joaquín Peinado Museum showcases the works of the eponymous local artist, providing a window into the evolution of Spanish art. From vibrant landscapes to poignant portraits, Peinado's creations capture the essence of Andalusia and its people.

No journey to Spain is complete without indulging in the local cuisine, and Ronda certainly does not disappoint. We found ourselves savoring tapas that burst with flavors and aromas unique to the region with more dishes than what we were used to in our locality in Costa Blanca.

Ronda's charm lies not only in its attractions but also in the intangible essence that permeates its streets. The warmth of its people, the lively plazas, and the enchanting alleys create an

atmosphere of authenticity that is hard to replicate. Whether strolling through the cobbled streets or enjoying a leisurely siesta at a local café, Ronda's distinct character leaves an indelible mark on every visitor.

As the sun began its descent over the horizon, we made our way to the Mirador de Aldehuela, a vantage point that promised a view of Ronda's legendary sunset. The sky transformed into a canvas of vivid hues, casting a golden glow over the town and its surroundings. It was a moment of sheer magic, a reminder that nature's beauty can be as enchanting as any man-made marvel.

Ronda, with its blend of history, art, cuisine, and natural beauty, stands as

a testament to the myriad experiences that Spain has to offer. From the aweinspiring architecture to the flavors that dance on the palate, every facet of Ronda is a treasure waiting to be unearthed.

As we bid farewell to this enchanting town, to go to our Spanish home a few hours away, we vowed to be back again and carried with us the memories of its attractions, the tastes of its cuisine, and the unique spirit that makes Ronda an unforgettable destination in the heart of Spain.

You can get to Ronda by flying with Turkish Airlines to either Malaga or Madrid with a stop in Istanbul. From there you can either take a car or train. We opted to go the longer route via

Madrid with the intention of stopping and exploring different towns along the way. Malaga airport is however a lot closer and one can reach Ronda in under two hours.

SHANGHAI UNVEILED

Shanghai, a city where modernity and tradition converge in a symphony of sights, sounds, and flavors, is a treasure trove of experiences waiting to be explored. Embarking on a four-day escapade to this vibrant metropolis, I found myself immersed in a world of captivating shopping, delectable cuisine, and enchanting markets in between my work commitments during the day.

My host was adventurous, and she knew the city well. From luxury boutiques to bustling street markets, Shanghai is a shopping paradise for every taste and budget. The iconic Nanjing Road dazzled me with its endless array of stores, from global brands to local finds.

The glamour of Huaihai Road, lined with upscale boutiques, provided a glimpse into Shanghai's fashionforward pulse. Before dinner one evening, we ventured into Tianzifang, a labyrinth of narrow alleyways, where I uncovered unique arts, crafts, and quaint boutiques that exude a distinct bohemian charm.

Shanghai's culinary scene is a tantalizing journey that unfolds with each dish. Indulging in local specialties like xiaolongbao, delicate dumplings bursting with savory fillings, was an unforgettable experience. The charming ambiance of Yunnan Road Food Street introduced me to the city's vibrant street food culture. Dining at a riverside

restaurant while gazing at the illuminated Pudong skyline was a highlight to my culinary adventure.

Shanghai's markets are an immersion into the city's vibrant culture and traditions. Wandering through the clean and bustling markets, such as the Flower and Bird Market and Dongtai Road Antique Market, I encountered a symphony of colors, fragrances, and textures. From colourful flowers and chirping birds to antique treasures and vintage curiosities, these markets awakened my senses and brought back memories of my time exploring day and night markets in Malaysia.

Venturing off the beaten path, I discovered hidden gems that

added depth to my Shanghai experience. Exploring the tranquil oasis of Zhujiajiao Water Town, I marveled at ancient architecture, picturesque canals, and traditional bridges that seemed frozen in time. The juxtaposition of serenity and urban energy in the Former French

Concession captivated me, as I strolled through tree-lined streets, discovering charming cafes and boutiques.

No visit to Shanghai is complete without marveling at its futuristic skyline. The soaring skyscrapers

of Pudong, including the iconic Oriental Pearl Tower and the Shanghai World Financial Center, create a mesmerizing spectacle. Standing on the waterfront promenade, I was awe-struck by the seamless blend of history and modernity that Shanghai masterfully presents.

I was lucky to explore Shanghai with a local friend and found the city fascinating as she was the perfect guide. From indulging in culinary delights to navigating lively markets and embracing the city's modern allure, Shanghai offers an unforgettable tapestry of experiences.

As I bid farewell to this enchanting city, I carried with me a beautiful silk scarf my dear friend gave me and it brings me a wealth of memories and a newfound appreciation for Shanghai’s cultural richness. I now have a longing to return to Shanghai’s busy streets and charming markets once more.

IWC Schaffhausen announces the opening of its first boutique in Berlin. Located on Kurfürstendamm, the city’s famous shopping boulevard, it is designed as an open and welcoming space where clients can discover the Swiss luxury watch manufacturer’s main collections.

The so-called Engineering Wall provides visitors with a deep-dive into the inner workings of IWCmanufactured movements and complications. A comfortable bar and lounge area looking out on the lively boulevard completes the visitor experience.

Berlin is a world-class destination with a rich, storied past and a vibrant atmosphere. Like no other metropolitan area in Europe, it attracts creative minds like artists

and designers, filmmakers and musicians, but also pioneering entrepreneurs and start-up founders from the tech world. The new IWC boutique in Berlin is the Swiss luxury watch manufacturer’s second boutique in Germany after Munich. It is located on Kurfürstendamm, Berlin’s most famous shopping boulevard.

“The origins of IWC, like my own, are connected to Germany. Back in 1868, our founder Florentine Ariosto Jones, located production in the German part of Switzerland near the Black Forest so that he could hire German watchmakers for his factory.

Since then, German engineering talent and technical expertise have been embedded in our design and

manufacturing processes. Therefore, we are thrilled to be represented in the German capital with an IWC boutique”, says Christian Knoop, Creative Director of IWC Schaffhausen.

THE SIXTH INSTALMENT OF IWC’S NEW BOUTIQUE CONCEPT

Another part of the exhibition walks visitors through the colour engineering from the first inspiration to the coloured ceramic case. Finally, the Engineering Wall also visualises the complex ceramic production process from polycrystalline powder

to green body and finished ceramic watch case.

Complementing the visitor experience is a lounge area, an inviting and quiet corner for clients to relax and have a drink. A separate

space for different events, such as watchmaking classes or virtual manufacturing tours, completes the amenities of the boutique.

ARADA LAUNCHES SARO, SEVENTH AND FINAL PHASE OF SHARJAH’S BESTSELLING MEGAPROJECT, MASAAR

Arada has launched Saro, the seventh and final phase of Masaar, the mega-residential woodland project in the Al Suyoh district of New Sharjah.

The release of the last 597 homes comes as investor interest in the nature-inspired homes and awardwinning master plan of the project has risen strongly, with 813 villas

and townhouses valued at AED2.34 billion sold in Masaar in the first half of 2023 alone.

The Saro district consists of idyllic two, three, and four-bedroom townhouses and premium four, five and six-bedroom villas including upmarket Saro Forest Signature Villas. Smart features come as standard at every Saro home, while

larger villas offer additional privacy, multiple lounges, expansive terraces and pristine swimming pools. All homes at Saro are scheduled to be completed in the second quarter of 2026.

Shimmy Mathew, Group CFO of Arada, said: “The intense buyer interest that we have seen in Masaar since its launch have made this one

REAL ESTATE

of the most popular and bestselling master communities anywhere in the UAE. Saro represents the last chance for buyers to invest in Masaar and we therefore expect demand to be high.

“Interest in Masaar has grown even more rapidly since the completion of the central precinct, which has given owners an opportunity to experience what living in the community will be like, as well the recent decision by the Sharjah government to allow all nationalities to buy freehold in the Emirate.”

Ideally located on the east side of the Masaar master plan, all homes at Saro are located within a few

minutes’ walk from Masaar Central, the community hub which features ample entertainment, leisure, wellness and fitness facilities along with direct access to Masaar’s signature forested landscape, outdoor amphitheatre, children’s waterplay area and a skate park.

Construction on 1,416 homes in the project’s first three residential districts, Sendian, Kaya and Robinia is underway, and the first homes are scheduled to be delivered later on in 2023.

The construction contract for the fourth, fifth and sixth phases, Azalea, Sarai and Sequoia, will be awarded in the coming months.

Valued at AED9.5 billion, the Masaar master plan features 3,000 homes spread over seven gated districts, all of which are linked by a green spine featuring over 50,000 trees.

Masaar is ideally located in the upand-coming Suyoh district, close to Tilal City, the Sharjah Mosque and Arada’s first project, Nasma Residences.

The community has easy access to Emirates Road and Mleiha Road, and is 15 minutes’ drive from Sharjah International Airport, and 20 minutes’ drive from Dubai International Airport.

ZENITH

DEFY SKYLINE SKELETON BOUTIQUE EDITION

WATCHES | 46 | Global Trend Monitor

Far more than an openworked watch, the DEFY Skyline Skeleton brings forth an entirely new design language to the world of skeleton watches. Keeping with the enduring DEFY legacy of sturdy and singularly futuristic timekeepers that began in 1969, the DEFY Skyline collection was conceived for an ever-fast-moving world where every fraction of a second can be a decisive one. Now, the DEFY Skyline Skeleton takes on a new chromatic palette of grey and silver with golden highlights as a boutique-exclusive edition.

Drawing inspiration from modern cityscapes where structures and light are bound in a constantly moving interplay, the DEFY Skyline Skeleton seamlessly integrates the open dial with an openworked version of the El Primero high-frequency automatic. A work of perfect symmetry seldom found in skeleton watches, the open dial takes on the form of a four-pointed stars, recalling the ZENITH “double Z” logo of the 1960s.

For the Boutique Edition, the dial takes on a silvery-grey colour, with a darker chapter ring

featuring applied gold-plated baton hour markers filled with Super-LumiNova and matching hands for effortless legibility.

A constantly running 1/10th of a second counter at 6 o’clock makes steady jumps in fixed increments, completing one revolution every 10 seconds. This unprecedented feature is unique to the new generation of the El Primero automatic high-frequency calibre.

An evolution of the unique octagonal geometry established by the earliest DEFY wristwatch models of the 1960s, the angular steel case of the DEFY Skyline Skeleton retains the same DNA of robustness and durability as its predecessors while bringing an edgier and more architectural aesthetic.

The 41mm stainless steel case with sharply defined edges is topped by a faceted bezel, inspired by those from early DEFY models and reimagined with twelve sides that are positioned as extensions to the hour markers. With an emphasis on performance in the largest possible

range of activities and situations, the screwdown crown emblazoned with the star emblem provides a water-resistance of 10 ATM (100 metres).

Visible through the open dial as well as the sapphire display back is the openworked version of the high-frequency automatic El Primero calibre, the 3620 SK. Built with a similar architecture as the El Primero 3600 1/10th of a second chronograph, this automatic manufacture movement drives the 1/10th of a second hand directly from the escapement, which beats at 5Hz (36’000 VpH), thus making it a “natural” fraction-of-a-second indication. It is also endowed with a stop-second mechanism for precise time-setting.

Efficient in its performance, the automatic winding mechanism with bi-directional rotor with a star motif delivers a power reserve of approximately 55 hours. For the Boutique edition of the DEFY Skyline Skeleton, the movement is finished in a luminous rhodium grey tone.

FERRETTI GROUP AND FORNASETTI

DECORATIVE ART ENTERS YACHTING

Ferretti Group, a world leader in the design, construction and marketing of luxury yachts, has formed a high profile partnership with Fornasetti, the Italian brand internationally renowned for its iconic designs and artisan craftsmanship.

This collaboration between luxury yachting and the unique aesthetic sensibility of Fornasetti stems from their shared passion for art and design, which is based on the pursuit of excellence and innovation to create a heritage of timeless refinement and beauty.

One of the values that best defines the identity of both Ferretti Group and Fornasetti is in fact their Made

in Italy culture, which translates into a commitment to offering prestige products that combine typically Italian elegance, style, creativity, top quality craftsmanship and attention to detail. Another key value underpinning the collaboration is the concept of madeto-measure, which Custom Line, Riva and Fornasetti apply in every project they undertake to ensure their customers enjoy a unique aesthetic experience that reflects their tastes and personality.

Of the seven brands making up Ferretti Group’s broad portfolio, Custom Line has for nearly 30 years been designing and building contemporary superyachts in composite materials or aluminium that are completely made-to-measure,

with custom interiors reflecting the owner’s desires, character and approach to the sea. Advanced technology and ingenious functional solutions go hand in hand with the brand’s inimitable design to create distinctive and stylish yachts that deliver impeccable quality and attention to detail.

As has been the case for over 180 years with the yachts built by Riva, the Ferretti Group brand is known the world over as an emblem of elegance, excellence, beauty and iconic appeal. Respect for tradition and the ability to build on its invaluable heritage work together with a strong commitment to innovation and untiring pursuit of excellence to produce masterpieces of naval art.

ART & DESIGN | 56 | Global Trend Monitor

This is the world now joined by the fascinating creative forge that is Fornasetti, which set out in 1940 to realise its dream of endowing everyday objects with high cultural value and of using decoration to send out an artistic message.

In doing so, Fornasetti has over the years created its own visual language, one that is unique in its refined artistic style formed of imagination, humour, nostalgia, metaphor and allusion, and capable of transforming furniture, accessories and ceramics into original ‘conversation pieces’.

Everything in this Milan atelier is still exclusively handmade by skilled artisans in annual limited editions, using a process that ensures each product is a stunning art multiple.

So, Fornasetti’s decorative art joins Ferretti Group’s luxury yachting universe to create elegant and original ambiences that will give customers an exclusive and immersive experience. It’s here that the design and craft work associated with the Atelier’s “thinking with your hands” approach come together to produce floating works of art.

As a result of this collaboration, the interior design of the private room at Riva’s La Spezia shipyard features Fornasetti furniture and accessories. In this way, a shipyard renowned for excellence in luxury yacht building becomes a meeting point at the intersection of art, design and navigation.

Riva and Custom Line’s partnership with Fornasetti opens a new chapter in the history of Italian design, and in the coming months will be presenting surprising new projects that promote creativity and craftsmanship.

A SPORTY CHARACTER AND UNPRECEDENTED COMFORT

SECOND PERSHING GTX116 UNIT LAUNCHED

Ready to break down all barriers in her wake, riding the waves to discover unexplored lands thanks to her sporty character and a relentless focus on ultimate liveability, the second Pershing GTX116 unit was launched and opens up new horizons for the marine experience, taking it into a unique space that surpasses anything you could imagine.

Built for the US market, the second Pershing GTX116 unit is the result of collaboration between Ferretti Group’s Strategic Product Committee led by Piero Ferrari, the design firm headed by Fulvio De Simoni, and the Group’s Engineering Department, and she confirms her sporty heritage while enhancing the concept of comfort by providing plenty of open-air spaces and

areas designed to provide even more direct contact with the water, totalling a remarkable 150 square metres. A unique yacht with a hull over 35 metres in length and 7.70 metres in the beam.

The brand’s sporty personality is embodied by the sleek and streamlined profile, which is pointed up in the bow area by a signature style feature that references luxury SUV automotive imagery and identifies the new Pershing GTX116 as an SUY or Sport Utility Yacht.

This yacht in the new range is painted the classic Pershing grey, with a special shade of blue for the deckhouse, and features generous glazed surfaces that flood the interiors with natural light.

The main deck contains the spacious lounge, where the sophisticated, highend furnishings are arranged to create as much space as possible. The layout of the setting therefore includes a conventional dining table, unlike the first model on which the owner chose to create a bar area.

The taupe oak parquet by Listone Giordano is the perfect match for warmly coloured furnishings that feature contrasting but inviting profiles and are coordinated with the sand-coloured Frau sofa. This generously sized and convivial space is furnished with gloss furniture featuring a fine finish that has a more matt appearance than on the first unit.

YACHT
| 60 | Global Trend Monitor

Entered from the lounge, the galley is much more spacious than on the previous unit and contains three fridge units with room to store everything needed. Here too, the cupboard doors are in warm colours, such as ivory with tone-on-tone colour dots.

Moving to the cockpit, we find an extending fixed table and, further aft, two teak tables. In this second unit, the area opposite the table in the cockpit is home to a large bar unit. This choice makes it possible to create an ideal setting in which to spend relaxing moments in increasingly seamless contact with the water. Forward, the unit proposed by the shipyard features a 6-person Jacuzzi.

Finally, the lower deck contains four guest cabins. It is also home to the master suite, which has a king-size bed by Frau with pecan-coloured finishings and ivory accents, in a clear reference to the palette of warm, inviting colours used throughout this second unit. The main bathroom is another design exercise in pursuit of space and absolute comfort.

The framework is a setting containing three interior areas, with two regular

showers, a central waterfall shower and two entrances. The herringbone mosaic by Metalborder gives the area an even more luxurious feel. It’s a space that perfectly combines technology and elegance.

The garage can contain a jet ski and two water toys, while the exclusive 39-square-meter beach club has a teak deck protected by an electro-hydraulic taffrail that opens up to connect the beach area with the swim platform, creating a huge space at the water’s edge.

The 40-square-meter sundeck, reached from the stern area via two outdoor

stairways on either side of the yacht, features sportfly furnishings with modular sofas by Minotti. This convivial but refined layout is designed to provide generous spaces in which to fully enjoy life on board.

The second Pershing GTX116 unit is equipped with a triple water jet propulsion system, which can be paired with three MAN V12 2000 engines each rated 2,000 mhp (optional) for a top speed of 35.5 knots and a cruising speed of 29.5 knots. The standard engines are three MAN V12 1800 units rated 1,800 mhp.

HOW PRIVATE AVIATION ENHANCES

BUSINESS TRAVEL EXPERIENCE

AVIATION
| 62 | Global Trend Monitor

Ever since the beginning of the global pandemic, private aviation became a go-to choice for business travellers around the globe.

According to Lukas Petrauskas, the CCO of KlasJet, a well-known exclusive private and corporate jet charter company, and an ACMI service provider, the demand for private business flights is expected to continue to steadily grow.

Lukas explains, “Businesses opt for private travel for various reasons. Conferences, annual meetings, unexpected negotiations, and urgent business cases are among the most common situations that require private charters.

Another reason that is growing in popularity is flying to remote destinations for management retreats, where brainstorming sessions take place.”

Approximately 30% of business flights are prearranged for events like conferences, industry gatherings, or annual meetings. However, the majority of business flights are typically booked on short notice. Lukas clarifies, “Most business situations necessitate ad-hoc flights.

Regardless of the urgency of the booking, our main objective as an operator is to uphold the client's preferred schedule.”

He says that private business travel does not exhibit significant seasonality, although summers tend to be slightly busier. “In the summer months, the demand for private business charters typically rises, primarily driven by potential flight disruptions in Europe. Individuals who would normally travel on scheduled business class services opt for private jets to ensure timely arrival at their destinations without the risk of delays.”

Lukas reveals that it is common for passengers to engage in preparation sessions while travelling to specific meetings. “Considering our passengers' busy schedules, it is natural for them to utilise their time on board efficiently by preparing, conducting meetings, or strategizing their actions.

In such instances, it is crucial for the crew to uphold their privacy and respect their need for uninterrupted focus.”

THE RACE TO NET ZERO

A Young Fijian's Call for Climate Action

As a young millennial from the vibrant islands of Fiji, my mum and her family grew up with the sound of waves crashing against the shore and the smell of salty breeze. But behind this idyllic paradise lies a harsh reality that looms large – the ever-increasing threat of climate change. As neighboring countries in the South Pacific grapple with rising sea levels, extreme weather events, and environmental degradation, my concerns for our collective future have grown more pronounced than ever.

My journey towards becoming an advocate for climate action began unexpectedly, at a UN-style round table hosted by the Green Sheikh of Ajman, right here in the United Arab Emirates where I represented Fiji islands. I was just young at the time, yet the gravity of the discussions ignited a spark within me. I was awakened to the immense challenges our planet faces and the pivotal role that young people like me have in steering towards a sustainable future.

One of the most poignant lessons from that experience was the notion of our individual carbon footprints. It dawned on me that each action we take, each choice we make, leaves an indelible mark on the Earth. From that moment on, I was determined to be part of the solution, to advocate for change, and to inspire others to do the same.

Coming from the South Pacific, where the effects of climate change are evident,

has given me a unique perspective. My relatives have witnessed the erosion of coastlines, the increasing frequency of cyclones, and the displacement of communities. These experiences serve as a constant reminder that climate change isn't a distant threat; it's a reality that we must confront head-on.

In Fiji, we have a concept known as "Talanoa," which emphasizes open and honest dialogue. It's a tradition that fosters understanding, empathy, and collaboration – qualities that are essential in the race to net zero. I believe that the voices of young people must be amplified through these conversations. We are not just the leaders of tomorrow; we are the activists, innovators, and change-makers of today.

While the challenges are immense, I draw inspiration from the countless individuals and communities across the globe who are taking tangible steps towards sustainability, especially my host country, the UAE which will be hosting the COP 28 soon. From adopting renewable energy sources to rethinking consumption patterns, the movement for positive change is gaining momentum.

As a Fijian, I feel a deep responsibility to protect our oceans, preserve our biodiversity, and ensure a future where generations to come can experience the beauty of our islands. But this responsibility extends far beyond borders. It's a global effort that requires

collective action, collaboration, and a relentless commitment to creating a world where net zero is not just a goal, but a reality.

Together, we can rewrite the narrative of our planet's future. By raising our voices, advocating for change, and demanding climate action, we can create a ripple effect that reaches every corner of the Earth.

The race to net zero is not just a competition against time; it's a race to safeguard the very essence of life as we know it.

And as a young Fijian, I'm determined to run this race with unwavering resolve, carrying the hopes of my island home and the aspirations of a generation determined to make a difference.
