When we think of luxury, the focus point to consider is the brand itself. We cannot imagine luxury without brands. The brand is an integral part of luxury products and services as well as the dreams of the customers.
Customers have dreams, and brands make their dreams come true. Therefore, when people ask what a luxury brand is, often the reply is that it is the brand that makes people’s dreams come true.
Brands are important for business success. The goal of luxury management is to gain pricing power, which is the competitive condition that not only ensures high profits but allows the brand to grow while increasing the price. The intangible capital power of the brand, which is acquired through quality, creativity, and status, is the lever of this pricing power.
Intangible capital in this case are those fragile and valuable assets, which brands acquire with a strong foundation. In enterprises where commodity products and services are mass-produced, management is delegated easily, and brands can be sold to other companies easily.
However, in luxury brands, it is the opposite; the product and service are linked to heritage, history, story, identity, creative talent, and most of the time the vision of the families, as such cannot be transferred nor delegated easily.
Luxury is a luxury experience. Luxury products and services are the objects of the luxury brands. Only diamonds are luxury objects appreciated without brands - size and purity matter all the time.
For everything else, there is no luxury without brands. Luxury brands go beyond the objects. It is created from the reputation made from its objects and its service within the social groups, which constitute the elite.
The brand is the social passport, both for the product and person. To be expensive is not enough to qualify
as a luxury product; it must also be marked with a cultural symbol accepted as a social determinant.
This symbol is the brand when the brand itself has the reputation with the cultural and financial powers. In luxury, the brand comes first before the product. Most often, customers choose the brand first, then a product or service of the brand they chose.
Luxury brand is a brand first, and luxury second. It is not necessary to talk about the positioning. Luxury brands are powerful identities, which can reassure and seduce by the dream they create.
They offer a world of its own in which customers wish to dive themselves as the luxury customers dream to be a part of it.
Luxury brand cultivates its uniqueness; it prefers to be loyal to an identity rather than continuously worry about superiority over an opponent or competitor.
Even if the customers make the comparison to decide, the brand is not managed by seeking to compare itself to others.
Building a brand is building a unique, strong perception. In luxury, it must be inspired and inspirational. Identity of luxury brands contributes to building the identity of its customers themselves.

Brands make the dreams of customers come true. In this equation, luxury brands play a very important role in consumers’ lives.

BRINGING AFRICAN CUISINE TO DUBAI
IAN ALEXANDER - GM, KIZA RESTAURANT AND LOUNGE

Recently we ventured out to spend a summer afternoon with Ian Alexander, General Manager, KIZA Restaurant and Lounge who took the role as it gave him the opportunity to tell the story of African cuisine, which he believes is underrated, unknown, and misunderstood on a global scale.
Ian has been in the hospitality industry with a career spanning over 18 years. Born and raised in Cape Town, South Africa, Ian began his career in the hospitality field, working for prominent corporate brands such as Sun International
and the Cape Town International Convention Center.
His ambition was always to work abroad and expand his career on a global scale so when he was approached by an agency working on KIZA Restaurant and Lounge, a Pan African restaurant in Dubai, he accepted the challenge of taking Pan African cuisine to new heights in Dubai.
With a background in food and beverage, Ian saw it as a chance to be the voice for African cuisine
and showcase its excellence. He embarked on a mission to revamp the restaurant's interiors, develop a new menu, and create brand-new experiences.
Ian's vision for KIZA is to bring African excellence to the forefront of the global stage. With Africa's rich cultural diversity and 54 countries, he aims to showcase the continent's music, fashion, arts, and culinary traditions. Ian and his team have already introduced elements from 16 different countries into their menu, including Tunisia and Morocco.
The KIZA team want to take people on a journey through Africa's diverse culinary landscape and challenge the perception that African food and beverages lag behind other cuisines.
One of the unique selling points of KIZA is that it is the only luxury casual fine dining African restaurant in DIFC.



Ian takes pride in the hospitality and diversity of his team, which comprises members from various African countries, as well as other nationalities. They aim to create a welcoming atmosphere where guests feel like they are entering a
home and experiencing the warmth of African culture.
Although located in Dubai, Ian emphasizes that they can import ingredients from all over the world, including Africa, to maintain the authenticity of their dishes. They also collaborate closely with beverage companies and suppliers to ensure a genuine African experience.
Ian's goal is to build an inclusive and diverse community around KIZA. While being a luxury brand, they strive to offer competitive pricing and various experiences accessible to everyone. They want to take people
on a journey through Africa's lands, seas, and hearts, incorporating homestyle cooking and dishes that evoke nostalgia for Africans and introduce others to the continent's rich culinary heritage.
To further promote African culture, KIZA hosts African networking events and social gatherings, inviting people from diverse backgrounds to come together and experience the beauty of pan-African cuisine. They aim to be a representative of Dubai's inclusive nature and a platform for showcasing the global Africa.
In addition to their culinary offerings, KIZA presents a range of experiences such as Shisanyama Saturdays, featuring live DJs, MCs, dancers, and performers, and Sophiatown Sundays, a tribute to the glamorous era of African jazz and fashion, accompanied by live performances from The Spice Symphony, an allfemale band.
Ian's passion for food and beverage stems from his love for entertaining people and creating memorable experiences. Over his career, he has gained extensive knowledge in various sectors of the industry, including hotels, casinos, convention centers, and restaurant groups. His aspiration is to pass on his knowledge to the next generation of hospitality professionals and contribute to the growth of the industry.
HOW DOES YOUR BOARD MEASURE CYBER RESILIENCE?

The volume of cyberattacks has risen year-on-year, with a 38% increase in 2022 compared to the previous year. In the UAE alone, an organization is being targeted on average 1403 times per week over the last six months. Supply chain attacks continue to challenge organizations.

Zero-day vulnerabilities are being uncovered daily, with the most recent prolific incident being the 3CX compromise found in March 2023. The geopolitical landscape has never been more fractured in response to the Russo-Ukraine war, and ransomware has evolved beyond classic encryption to more sophisticated data extortion. All of this has created the perfect conditions for cybercriminals to thrive and for businesses to stay out of danger.
So, what is the solution? In today's interconnected world, where digital technologies play a vital role in business operations, organizations need a proactive and comprehensive approach to cybersecurity, one that goes beyond traditional preventative measures. Enter cyber resilience: the ability of organizations to withstand, respond to, and recover from cyber incidents while maintaining essential operations and protecting critical assets. Cyber resilience is not just about dealing with
threats, it’s about the board’s overall ability to make informed decisions on how to mitigate risk and ensure that data is protected. With such a tall order, the question is - where do you even begin?
TAKING A RISK-BASED VIEW
Many organizations opt for widely recognized guidelines and standards as a starting point to establish a common framework for cybersecurity and risk analysis. Two prominent tools are the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) framework and the MITRE ATT&CK framework.
These provide organizations with structured approaches to identify, protect, detect, respond to, and recover from cyber threats. By adhering to these frameworks, businesses can enhance their overall cybersecurity posture and strengthen their ability to withstand potential attacks.
To implement such frameworks effectively, organizations should first assess their current cybersecurity capabilities and identify any gaps or vulnerabilities. This will help determine which framework is most suitable for their needs. Next, they need to establish a dedicated team responsible for overseeing the implementation and ongoing management of the framework. This team will map the framework's
controls and guidelines to the organization's existing infrastructure and processes, ensuring the framework is aligned with the specific requirements and risks the business faces.
In the European Union (EU), recent developments have also highlighted the growing emphasis on resilience. The EU's Network and Information Security (NIS) Directive, implemented in 2018, requires organizations to adopt appropriate measures to ensure the security and resilience of their network and information systems.
Furthermore, the EU Cybersecurity Act, enacted in 2019, establishes a framework for the certification of cybersecurity products and services. These developments demonstrate the EU's commitment to enhancing cybersecurity at both the organizational and regulatory levels.
The unfortunate truth is cybersecurity frameworks alone are no longer enough to protect organizations in a world where threats and data breaches are more than one-off occurrences.
After all, cybercriminals do not care about frameworks – they care about breaking through a network’s defenses. Robust, proactive, and preparatory work is needed to ensure that businesses
can mitigate these threats, reduce their overall risk posture, and orchestrate rapid-response remediation when required.
RESILIENCE: ADOPTING A PREVENTION-FIRST APPROACH
While traditional cybersecurity measures primarily focus on threat detection and mitigation, adopting a prevention-first approach is crucial when it comes to shoring up resilience.
Resilience refers to an organization’s ability to not only detect and mitigate threats but have real-time visibility over their networks and the ability to anticipate threats and execute rapidresponse measures that reduce or eliminate downtime.
Rather than solely relying on reactive measures, organizations need to proactively build robust defenses that can withstand potential attacks. This approach emphasizes the importance of identifying vulnerabilities, implementing strong security controls, and continuously monitoring and improving security practices. To effectively address the challenges of the digital age, organizations should embrace the three C's and ensure their solution is comprehensive, consolidated, and collaborative.
Comprehensive security measures entail a holistic approach, encompassing all aspects of an organization's infrastructure, applications, and data. This includes implementing access controls, regular patching, and encryption protocols, among other measures.
Consolidation refers to the integration and centralization of security tools and technologies. A study conducted by Check Point and Dimensional Research found that 49% of all organizations use between 6 and 40 point security products, while 98% of organizations manage their security products with multiple consoles, creating vulnerability gaps and visibility blind spots.
By reducing the number of disparate solutions and unifying security operations, organizations can achieve greater visibility and control over their security landscape at a time when network footprints are rapidly expanding. This enables more efficient threat detection, response, and recovery processes.
Collaboration highlights the importance of taking a cohesive and joined-
up approach to threat detection and mitigation. If one endpoint is compromised, all areas of the organization – including its software supply chain – must mobilize from a security perspective to ensure the threat is contained and cannot spread laterally within the network or impact customer organizations as part of a supply chain attack.

TIP #1 - BE SKEPTICAL
If something sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Know the warning signs for phishing, social engineering and other scams and err on the side of caution.
Don’t click on unknown links, open unexpected or suspicious attachments or provide information to someone you don’t know or weren’t expecting to hear from.
TIP #2 - USE STRONG PASSWORDS AND PASSPHRASES

HIDDEN GEMS OF BUENOS AIRES

My journey to Buenos Aires was with a local Emirati lady who I met for the first time at the airport and together we explored most of Argentina but naturally our best moments were in Buenos Aires, the capital city of Argentina.
The city at every time of the day is vibrant and enchanting offering a rich blend of history, culture, and architectural wonders.
Our highlights of Buenos Aires included exploring Recoleta, Palermo, Plaza de Mayo, Puerto Madero, San Telmo, and La Boca.
Naturally retail therapy was top of the list, so we ventured to Recoleta, a glamorous neighborhood known for its elegant architecture, upscale boutiques, and charming cafés.
Another attraction here is Recoleta Cemetery, the final resting place of many notable figures, including Eva Perón and which has elaborate mausoleums and sculptures, making it a fascinating place to explore.
Moving on to Palermo, this neighborhood is divided into several sub-districts and is beloved for its trendy atmosphere. Palermo Soho is a hotspot for fashion, design, and
nightlife, with its boutique shops, art galleries, and lively bars and restaurants. Palermo Hollywood, on the other hand, is known for its thriving culinary scene and vibrant nightlife.
Next up was Plaza de Mayo, the historic and political heart of Buenos Aires. Here, we found important landmarks such as the Pink House (Casa Rosada), which is the presidential palace and also the site where Eva Perón famously addressed the people from the balcony.
The Metropolitan Cathedral, located adjacent to the Pink House, is
another significant attraction that shouldn't be missed.
For a taste of modernity, Puerto Madero is a must-visit area. This waterfront district was revitalized in the 1990s and is now a trendy district filled with upscale restaurants, bars, and luxury residences. Strolling along the waterfront promenade, admiring the sleek architecture and enjoying the views of the docks and river, is a delightful experience.
To immerse yourself in the history of Buenos Aires, head to San Telmo. This neighborhood has a bohemian atmosphere and is famous for its cobblestone streets, colonial buildings, and antique markets. On Sundays, the streets come alive with the renowned San Telmo Antiques Fair, where you can browse through a treasure trove of unique items.
Our visit to La Boca took us to one of the most colorful and culturally


significant neighborhoods in Buenos Aires. Caminito Street is the main attraction here, featuring vibrant buildings painted in bright hues and housing artists' workshops, tango performances, and quaint restaurants. La Boca is also known as the birthplace of tango, so be sure to catch a tango show to experience the passionate dance firsthand.
One evening, we immersed ourselves in the mesmerizing world of tango at Tango Rojo, located at the cabaret of the Faena Hotel. With its decadent yet refined ambiance, Tango Rojo offers an authentic tango experience with talented musicians, vocalists, and dancers dressed in beautiful period costumes. It is regarded as one of the best tango shows in the city, and left us captivated by the sheer talent on display.
During our stay in Buenos Aires, we enjoyed the comforts of the Alvear Art Hotel, specifically in their Studio room. Despite being on crutches one summer, I spent ten days making memories as Greece offered me and my family a perfect mix of fun, food and a dose of history. One of the most captivating aspects of Greece is its historical significance.
As the birthplace of Western civilization, Greece is adorned with archaeological treasures and iconic landmarks. Athens, the capital city, boasts the iconic Acropolis,
a UNESCO World Heritage site featuring the Parthenon, a symbol of ancient Greece's architectural brilliance.
Delphi, Olympia, and Knossos are other significant archaeological sites that allow visitors to delve into the country's glorious past. It was a challenge for me limping up into the hills to see some of the ruins, but it was well worth it.
Greece's stunning landscapes were the main highlight. I stayed in a resort on the coast facing crystalclear waters as well as the towering mountains. For the adventurous,
head to Santorini and Mykonos as these islands are famous for their white-washed buildings, stunning sunsets, and vibrant nightlife.

The lush greenery of Corfu and Zakynthos provides a tranquil escape, while Crete offers a perfect combination of beautiful beaches and rugged mountains.
With its crystal-clear waters, Greece offers excellent opportunities for swimming, snorkeling, and scuba diving. Water sports enthusiasts can enjoy windsurfing, kiteboarding, and sailing in various coastal destinations.

After birthing two Michelin stars in Milan and Monforte d'Alba, our Founder who is an Italian Architect, Designer and Tourism Entrepreneur partnered with an English
Radio Presenter, an Emirati Entrepreneur, a Fijian Magazine Editor and an Egyptian Restaurateur to bring Salties, and The Deck, a concept restaurant in an ecosustainable urban design to West Beach Palm Jumeirah.
When we first sat down to conceptualize the Salties outlet at Expo 2020, we wanted to shed light on the significance of sustainability in the F&B industry and highlight the transformative work being done by the dynamic team in using materials that would otherwise be discarded. We even used sand as part
of the flooring to bring in the message of using natural and existing materials within the F&B ecosystem.
As an F&B enthusiast, I have had the privilege of being involved in the inception of exceptional restaurants, including Salties at Aloft Dubai Creek and recently The Deck in voco on West Beach. These experiences have not only deepened my passion for this industry but also fueled my dedication to driving positive change. All our partners have a growing awareness of our planet's finite resources, and it is evident that the traditional methods

of operating restaurants are no longer sustainable.


Our unwavering commitment to transforming F&B businesses into remarkable success stories has resulted in groundbreaking strategies that prioritize sustainability without compromising on the quality of the dining experience. CELEBRATES 60 YEARS OF THE ‘VIRGULE’ HEEL

A pause, a breath, a split-second to reflect.
The house of Roger Vivier celebrates the 60th anniversary of the ‘Virgule’ heelone of the designer’s most revolutionary creations and a milestone in the world of 20th century shoe design.

Dreamed up in 1963 in the shape of a comma, the ‘Virgule’ was a radical gesture for its time, executed by inverting the slope of a high heel to create a sweeping concave form: one that flicks back on itself inward, with the illusion of a void. This exaggerated, avant-garde expression was unveiled at a moment of great change for Monsieur Vivier, as he parted ways with Christian Dior and launched his eponymous label at 24 rue François 1er in Paris, France.
Thought of as a comfortable and elegant alternative to the high stiletto heel fashionable at the time, the ‘Virgule’ was


also the diametric opposite of Monsieur Vivier’s convex ‘Choc’ heel, and the perfect breakout creation for the designer who, from that time onwards, would go on to design fantastic creations under his own name and for Haute Couture houses from Yves Saint Laurent to Grès, Nina Ricci, and Balmain.

Evolving throughout the 20th and into the 21st centuries, the ‘Virgule’ heel has seen myriad iterations dreamed up by Monsieur Vivier, from pumps in canary yellow satin, sea green embroidery, or black suede with bows, to blue crystalembellished sandals.

GTM: TELL US ABOUT YOUR CURRENT INITIATIVES. I UNDERSTAND THE SCHOOL HAS HAD A VERY GOOD RESPONSE FROM RETAILERS?
David Macadam: Yes, this is our 29th year of hosting this education program, and this is the 10th year that I have hosted it myself. The Middle East Council of Shopping Centers continues to go from strength to strength in terms of the number of school attendees.

We attract people from various countries, including Australia, Canada, the UK, Iraq, Iran, UAE, Egypt, Qatar, Kuwait, and Saudi Arabia.
So we have a great following and a diverse mix of instructors and students. It's getting the attention we like, and it's proving to be a resilient education program.
GTM: HOW MANY PARTICIPANTS DO YOU HAVE THIS TIME AROUND?
David Macadam: This year we have about 90 participants. In our best year in 2018, we had about 130. Considering the current market conditions, we're quite happy with the turnout.

GTM: WHAT ARE SOME OF THE POPULAR COURSES THAT YOU GET REQUESTED?
David Macadam: There has been a great deal of requests for courses related to chat GPT-based information and digital dashboards for securing information from people counting systems, POS sales, and digital analysis of shopping center performance. Many people have requested these topics, and we have had some of the industry's best and brightest deliver those courses for us.
GTM: WHAT'S THE UNIQUE SELLING POINT FOR THIS YEAR'S PROGRAM?
David Macadam: The unique selling point for us this year is having our faculty come from as far away as Australia and Canada. These
individuals are renowned in their own right within the industry.
We have enjoyed having their guidance, and what we always try to do is bring the best and brightest into the region to share knowledge from outside the borders of the UAE. So while we have instructors from the UAE, we also bring in experts from other countries.
GTM: IN ADDITION TO THE SCHOOL, YOU HAVE A LOT OF OTHER ACTIVITIES HAPPENING THROUGHOUT THE YEAR. WHAT IS NEXT ON THE AGENDA?
David Macadam: Our retail conference is scheduled from October 22nd to 24th, 2023, and that is a big deal for our team.

We are focusing a lot on that and planning networking events in Jordan and Kuwait, which will take place in September.
Another significant push for us this year has been expanding into the Saudi market.
We have been working for nine years to establish a foothold there, and we believe it will finally happen in December.

A new Custom Line 106’ hull radiates beauty and light, ready to ply the seas towards infinite horizons. The launch of the sixteenth hull of this magnificent example of Italian yacht making excellence took place recently at the Ferretti Group Superyacht Yard in Ancona, in a ceremony attended by the owner’s family and the shipyard's employees.


Custom Line 106’ M/Y ÉTOILE, a star both in name and in fact, is a creation of the Ferretti
Group Engineering Department, supported by the expertise of Francesco Paszkowski Design for the interiors and the exterior styling. The Custom Line Atelier played a strategic role in the interior design process, working in close contact with the customer, based in the EMEA region to understand and interpret the style desired.
This masterpiece of aesthetics and comfort – 32.82 metres in length and 7.4 metres in the beam
– achieves a perfect architectural balance thanks to the interconnected surfaces, the flowing volumes from bow to stern, and the elimination of boundaries between onboard spaces.



The design of the outdoor and indoor settings on the new Custom Line 106’ is elegant and refined, characterised by the use of warm, neutral colours in shades that play on different nuances of light and
dark brown, bronze and mud, amplifying the luminosity and size of the spaces.

MORGAN AND ORLEBAR BROWN CREATE THE ULTIMATE HOLIDAY READY SUPER 3
Morgan Motor Company has teamed up with resort wear and swimwear brand, Orlebar Brown, to create the ultimate holiday ready Super 3. The one-off Super 3 showcases a range of bespoke design features, celebrating the customisable nature of the model.


Super 3, as with all Morgan vehicles, is coach-built in Malvern, Worcestershire. Unveiled in February 2022, the Super 3 has received praise from media and customers alike, with the first production cars now in showrooms around the world. The company’s flair for creating bespoke special projects has lent itself to the collaboration with Orlebar Brown, which has seen the design teams from both companies work together on the unique specification.
The OB x Morgan Super 3 is finished in a pastel beige paint colour, combined with matching Khaki Sand technical fabric interior. Red accents feature throughout the exterior and interior, matching Orlebar Brown’s unique colourway. Several bespoke adaptations to the interior continue
this theme, including a body colour instrument cluster, red cockpit bungee cords and a body colour OB liveried gearshift surround.
The exterior of the Super 3 features yet more bespoke modifications. Custom laser cut, geometric pattern luggage racks with red bungee cords adorn the sideblades, with the luggage rack pattern mimicked in a textured graphic applied to the sideblade. Orlebar Brown branding features subtly on the exterior of the Super 3, including on the body-coloured spotlight covers.
Most strikingly, this unique Super 3 has been adapted by the Morgan special projects team to enable the attachment of a bespoke sunshade canopy, allowing both driver and passenger to seek shade in even the sunniest of locations. The removable canopy, with its body colour frame, is trimmed with the same Khaki Sand technical fabric as the interior of the car and fits to specially adapted mounts on the flyscreens and roll hoops.
The ultimate holiday ready Super 3 will be seen in some of Europe’s most exotic locations over the next 12 months. To launch the collaboration, adventure photographer and visual artist Karl Shakur has taken the OB x Morgan Super 3 on its first road trip, capturing his adventures on and off the roads and beaches in locations around Wales.

This premier event served as a platform to showcase the latest offshore oil and gas exploration and production projects, while shedding light on innovative commercial trends that would shape the future of the offshore support vessel industry.
The Offshore Support Vessels Conference provided an unparalleled opportunity for networking, collaboration, and knowledge sharing among industry professionals. With over 200 attendees and experts in attendance, the conference promised to be a vital gathering for decision-makers in the marine services, technical services, marine logistics, quality assurance, project management, and marine operations sectors.
The event came at a pivotal time for the offshore support vessel industry, driven by various market factors and significant growth opportunities. According to Fortune Business Insights, the global OSV market is projected to grow from USD 14.46 billion in 2021 to USD 23.60 billion by 2028. Additionally, as reported by Mordor Intelligence, the Middle East OSV market is expected to experience a
compound annual growth rate of 5% over the next five years.
Several key projects and developments further underscored the increasing demand for offshore support vessels in the region. Saudi Aramco, for example, announced plans for a 50% increase in the size of its offshore support vessels, raising the total number of crafts to approximately 450. Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) had recently awarded a $548 million (AED2.01 billion) contract for the construction of a new main gas line at its Lower Zakum field, driving the need for offshore support vessels.
The initiation of 13 new offshore LNG projects by Qatar Energy and the launch of a $594 million (KD 181 million) offshore drilling operation by Kuwait Oil Company has also contributed to the surge in demand for offshore support vessels.
The conference served as an ideal platform for Fueltrax and the Saudi National Maritime Academy to enter into an agreement to jointly investigate offshore vessel optimization and sustainability technology training for the upcoming generation of professional mariners.

The objective of the MOU is to provide, to the offshore industry, a comprehensive digital Sustainability / ESG package combining Ascenz Marorka's vessel performance optimisation solutions to reduce vessels' emissions through automatic sensor data collection and artificial intelligence and Greenfield Marine Technologies' digital platform which looks at Safety of Offshore personnel and the Environment through Data Analytics using Engagement, Training & Motivation of people as a tool. Both partners agree that tackling the environmental challenges in the maritime industry requires both modern technology and engaged crews.

For instance, the ‘Travel Tech-fluencers’ have high expectations that travel should leverage technology for smoother and better-connected experiences. They are early adopters of modern technology that can improve their journey. ‘Memory Makers’ on the other hand value travel for the memories they make, the people they meet and the places they visit. They like to curate memorable vacation experiences, but are less enthusiastic about new technology, preferring to use what they know and trust.

With a high number of expats living in the Gulf, travel is part of many residents’ lives as people commute regularly between their home countries and where they live and work. As the global macro environment changes, the travel industry must also continuously evolve by adopting new technologies, meeting the growing desire for sustainability, and accommodating the ever-shifting personal priorities of travellers.
Traveller Tribes 2033 is a global research study commissioned by travel technology leader Amadeus to help travel sellers and providers look into the future and see how people in the UAE will travel in the coming years. Northstar Research Partners conducted an online published earlier this year including the views of 756 UAE travelers who are likely to travel internationally in the next 3 years and have travelled internationally at least once in the last year.
The research examines the future forces of change transforming travel, alongside emerging traveller traits, behaviours, and preferences, in order to understand what travellers might expect or even demand in the future. The research revealed four
The ‘Excited Experientialists’ have a “try it and see” approach to life, with mid- to high-income levels, few commitments and are well positioned to explore the world. They are also anti-planners in the sense they do not want to plan every aspect of a journey because they enjoy the element of discovery and serendipity that travel provides.
The last group among the traveller tribes identified, ‘Pioneering Pathfinders’, like to combine people and technology to plan travel for them. They enjoy aboveaverage incomes, which lets them live a progressive, fast-paced life, always looking for their next big adventure. They are interested in sustainable travel options because the only mark they want to leave behind is a footprint.
Extrapolating the results, the UAE survey revealed the population is a mix of 34% Memory makers, 33% Pioneering Pathfinders, 19% Excited Experientialists and 14% Travel Tech-fluencers. When asked to select a preference from a list of options, the top priority for travellers in the UAE was about making memories and choosing interesting places to visit, followed by value for money.

The technologies which will most interest UAE travellers in 2033 are: being able to pay for trips by cryptocurrency, using virtual reality or via facial recognition followed by harnessing data to create more tailored and relevant trip recommendations. The third was about Biometric data to enable quick access through airports and passport control followed by “Super Apps” which have everything needed to plan travel. Rounding the list off was facial recognition data to optimise the transit experience.
The top five concerns that UAE travellers have most about trips in 2033 include: cybersecurity attacks being more frequent (45%) at par with how safe they feel the data people share will be (45%). There were also concerns about political instability meaning it is not possible to travel to some destinations (37%) followed by a concern that trips will be more expensive if they want to act in an environmentally conscious manner (35%). Less of a concern for the majority, only 32% were worried that travel in 2033 will be unaffordable.
Going beyond simple, traditional classifications of age, gender, location and socioeconomic position, Traveler Tribes 2033, was able to identify individuals based on their psychological traits, their willingness to travel, explore and seek adventure and how these will be impacted by new technologies.
Equipped with this information, Amadeus is now well positioned to work with its partners to respond to the changing needs of travelers in the coming decade and create solutions that can offer a better and rewarding travel experience.
