Mastering Art, Science, and Technology in the World of Hypercars

Horacio Pagani, the visionary founder of Pagani Automobili, has carved a unique niche in the automotive world, blending art, science, and technology to create some of the most exclusive and technologically advanced hypercars.

In a recent interview with us in Dubai, Pagani shared insights into the philosophy and journey of his company over the past 25 years, revealing the passion and innovation that drive his creations. We met him at the 25th anniversary of Pagani Automobili celebrated at the prestigious Bulgari Resort in Dubai.

The event marked another step in Pagani’s 25th Anniversary celebration journey, which has seen a succession of international events dedicated to the people who have believed in Horacio Pagani’s project from the beginning: customers, colleagues, collaborators and enthusiasts.

Horacio Pagani has not only dreamed and built some of the most beautiful Hypercars in the world, but he has also turned the company into a creative Atelier where a community of people recognize themselves, share actions and thoughts, deal with the great complications of mechanics, handle beauty, always guided by creative inspiration.

From the outset, Pagani has focused on producing a limited number of cars, ensuring exclusivity and maintaining the brand's prestigious reputation. "The

cars were always a concentration of technology," Pagani explains, highlighting the importance of innovation in his designs. This commitment to technological advancement, coupled with the brand's exclusivity, has been a key factor in Pagani's success.

Pagani credits the company's economic self-sufficiency to its management by a close-knit team, including family members and a small group of managers raised within the factory. This structure has allowed Pagani to invest in research and development, furthering technological progress and ensuring the company remains at the forefront of the automotive industry.

Pagani believes that his cars should evoke emotions, transcending their practical utility. He draws inspiration from Leonardo da Vinci's Renaissance principle that

art and science can walk hand in hand. Modern tools and data-driven studies enable Pagani's engineers and designers to create cars where aesthetics and technology are seamlessly integrated, resulting in vehicles that are not only beautiful but also scientifically advanced. During the interview we spoke extensively about Utopia. Utopia marks the beginning of the third chapter in the brand’s history, making its debut in the Middle East and Africa region. The new Hypercar features a simple and timeless design that embodies a visionary and countertrend automotive concept.

Drawing inspiration from the purest Leonardo da Vinci principle of Art and Science, the aim is to create an object that seamlessly combines refined aesthetic appeal with cutting-edge technology. With only 99 specimens produced, the first series of Utopia

Coupé has already been allocated to a select circle of enthusiasts.

Before we started the interview, we were also able to view the Zonda F Roadster, with new triaxial carbon fiber fabric. The chassis has been redesigned and the weight of the coupé has been kept the same (1,230 kg). The result is a highly efficient aerodynamic car that set a time of 7’29 on the Nürburgring track.

Produced only in the Clubsport version, since this set-up turned out to be far more popular than the original, thanks also to the engine’s increased power output to 650 HP, the Roadster F features a Brembo braking system, with 38 cm diameter carbon-ceramic self-ventilating discs, both front and rear and aluminum and magnesium alloy wheels, designed by Pagani and made by APP-Tech, 19 inches high in front and 20 inches in the rear.

Next to the Zonda F Roadster, we came across the Huayra Roadster. Described

by Horacio Pagani as the «most complicated project», it is a car almost entirely on view, with every component, every mechanical part proudly displayed. It is the first-ever Roadster to be lighter than the Coupé version.

Such a goal was achieved thanks to the complete overhaul of all components and the development of new advanced composite formulas, including CarboTriax HP52 combined with CarboTitanium which allowed the team to reduce the car’s weight by 80 kg compared to the previous coupé and achieve a 52% increase in rigidity. It took six years of hard work to fully develop it, paying attention to every detail. The final result is an open-top car produced in 100 units according to the most authentic Pagani philosophy.

Pagani's influence extends beyond hypercars, as the company has ventured into designing interiors for helicopters and jets, applying the same principles of art, science, and

technology. The focus is on using lightweight materials like carbon fiber and titanium, which are staples in Pagani's cars, to enhance the performance and efficiency of aircraft.

Horacio Pagani's journey with Pagani Automobili is a testament to his relentless pursuit of combining art, science, and technology in the automotive world. As Pagani continues to push the boundaries of innovation and design, the brand's legacy as a creator of emotion-evoking, technologically advanced hypercars is set to endure for years to come.

In a rapidly evolving world, sustainability has become more than just a buzzword; it's a responsibility that businesses across industries are embracing. ATS Travel, an advocate of sustainable practices, recently organized the Climate Freak workshop, a

collaborative effort with industry leaders like Amadeus, SAP Concur, Lufthansa, Goumbook, and Rotana Hotels.

This workshop served as a platform to delve into crucial discussions about sustainability in the travel sector. Saleem Sharif, at the helm as the driving force behind ATS Travel, shares his insights and perspectives on the pivotal role collaborations play in steering the company's sustainability journey forward.

HAVING ORGANISED THE CLIMATE FREAK WORKSHOP TODAY IN ASSOCIATION WITH OTHER INDUSTRY LEADERS LIKE AMADEUS, SAP CONCUR, LUFTHANSA, GOUMBOOK, AND ROTANA HOTELS, WHAT ARE YOUR KEY TAKEAWAYS OR INSIGHTS THAT YOU PLAN TO INTEGRATE INTO ATS TRAVEL’S SUSTAINABILITY JOURNEY?

ATS Travel has been a strong advocate of sustainability over the last few years even before the inception of our ‘Go Green” initiative we launched. These collaborations and events that we are organizing with the support of our partners bring awareness among our clients and to the travel industry. Our journey is not one where we travel alone towards sustainability but rather as a cohesive and collaborative drive that we will be making along with all our stakeholders and industry partners. Today’s initiative is one we have mooted as part of our contribution towards the COP28 conference, being held in our fantastic city – Dubai, UAE.

COULD YOU SHARE SPECIFIC INITIATIVES OR STRATEGIES THAT ATS TRAVEL HAS IMPLEMENTED OR PLANS TO IMPLEMENT AS PART OF ITS COMMITMENT TO SUSTAINABILITY?

Apart from events such as this that we have been conducting over the last few years, we have conducted plantation drives in the region with our clients as guests. We do a plantation drive twice a year to offset our own carbon footprint and in fact currently have trees in plantations named after every employee in our organization. Internally our organization has ensured our new office space is eco-friendly and sustainable practices are put in place to ensure our staff practice and contribute in every way possible.

We as a TMC are also offering our clients a monthly science-based carbon footprint report which includes data from not just air travel but also land arrangements such as transfers, car rentals and Hotels. Unless you know what your footprint is you cannot really do anything about it, so this helps our clients in their sustainable journey. We also offer them offsetting options across the globe that are verified by global authorities and in some cases even facilitate this process.

HOW HAVE THESE INITIATIVES BEEN INFLUENCED BY COLLABORATIONS LIKE THE ONE AT THE CLIMATE FRESK WORKSHOP?

A workshop like this is so crucial as we have come to realize that there are a lot of folks who want to do something about sustainability but lack the know-how and indepth knowledge of the topic.

This workshop helps them learn and also this will have a wider impact as they take their learning back to their respective organisations.

The workshop itself creates awareness in the market that we are there to help to guide and assist you in your journey to achieve your net-zero goals. We are all on the same path towards the same goal. This awareness increases the success rate of our initiatives and brings into the fold new entities and partners who benefit from such activities.

IN WHAT WAYS DO YOU SEE COLLABORATIONS WITH ENTITIES LIKE AMADEUS, SAP CONCUR, LUFTHANSA, GOUMBOOK, AND ROTANA HOTELS ENHANCING ATS TRAVEL’S APPROACH TO SUSTAINABILITY?

These collaborations are so crucial in the market as we are showing a unified front in the industry to our clients. We are through this telling them that there are sustainable choices that can be made in your business travel program that will help you to reach your net zero or carbon reduction goals.

With industry leaders like SAP concur in the online booking space or Amadeus the largest distribution system in the world along with airline giants Lufthansa coming together in the event reinstates and enhances the seriousness of the need for sustainable initiative’s to be adopted by each one of us in our everyday lives and organizations

ARE THERE ANY JOINT PROJECTS OR INITIATIVES ARISING FROM THESE PARTNERSHIPS?

Definitely, in offering an understanding of the causes and effects of climate change and sustainability knowledge the clients are now empowered to make sustainable choices. Every partner at the event showcased their sustainable solutions to the participants and we see a lot of partnerships already taking fruition as the end objective and goal here is reducing our carbon footprint and these solutions do just that.

WHAT ARE SOME OF THE UNIQUE CHALLENGES ATS TRAVEL FACES IN ITS SUSTAINABILITY JOURNEY, ESPECIALLY IN THE TRAVEL AND TOURISM SECTOR?

The main challenge is awareness, knowledge of solutions, misconceptions on the process & topic and the misunderstanding that being sustainable is expensive. We have learnt over the last few years that although there is a desire and inclination to be sustainable, people do not know how.

The responsibility also lies with TMC and tourism organizations like us to ensure we offer, guide and provide the choice for the client to choose sustainable travel or holidays. We also strongly feel that this will not happen unless there is a buy in from all the stakeholders within the organization and with your value and supply chain as well.

HOW DOES THE COMPANY PLAN TO ADDRESS THESE CHALLENGES, POSSIBLY

USING INSIGHTS OR SOLUTIONS DISCUSSED IN THE WORKSHOP?

We are working towards clearing a lot of these misconceptions, providing factual data with clear examples on what is required. This workshop is a prime example of how we are working towards imparting the crucial and necessary understanding and knowledge to our partners, clients and market.

Internally we have now partnered with various destinations and suppliers across the globe in industries such as Hotel, Transport and Air who can offer sustainable options to our clients. We will also be continuing such activities and workshop to spread awareness with the kind support of all our partners.

ARE THERE ANY SPECIFIC GOALS OR BENCHMARKS THAT THE COMPANY AIMS TO ACHIEVE IN THE SHORT AND LONG TERM?

Yes, we are working towards ensuring every client of ours takes account of their carbon footprint and acts on it. We are there as their partner to help them in this journey by providing information and choices in their everyday travel plan to help them offset and reduce their carbon footprint. We hope to be a one stop solution to our clients where they look to us for guidance in procurement, partnerships, travel policy adherence and more - all aimed towards a more sustainable travel program.

AS A LEADER IN THE TRAVEL INDUSTRY, HOW DOES ATS TRAVEL ENVISION INFLUENCING OR INSPIRING OTHER COMPANIES IN THE SECTOR TOWARDS GREATER SUSTAINABILITY PRACTICES?

Well, I am sure our partners in this sector are all doing something about this and as I have already mentioned, this journey is not one to be taken alone but as a cohesive and collaborative effort from all the stakeholders in the industry.

I am sure we will soon see a lot more initiatives from partners and we also are confident that this workshop will empower clients in the market to seek these choices and solutions from their respective partners.

As the travel industry navigates the path towards sustainability, ATS Travel stands at the forefront, championing collaborative efforts and initiatives. Saleem Sharif emphasizes the significance of collective action and partnership, emphasizing that sustainability isn't a solitary journey but a collective endeavor involving stakeholders, clients, and partners. The relationship between time and luxury is one aspect that we should thoroughly understand when we strategize and manage the luxury business. Once we grasp the nature of time in terms of stages in luxury, it becomes more meaningful and beneficial for all stakeholders. In basic terms, there are three time-stages for luxury products and services.

During the first stage, small or big, luxury consumers have dreams in nature. They have dreams that they wish to come true other than just answering their basic functional needs. When they have a basic product to satisfy their immediate needs, it becomes a commodity and has a minimal quality at lower cost. However, when consumers have a dream, it becomes a desire.

They want to buy a luxury watch, a bag, a shirt, or a car; or have a great time in a luxury hotel where they can have caring service, delicious meals, creative drinks, comfortable room with a great functionality, awesome view, and such like. Before, they decide to visit the selling point and purchase the luxury product supported by luxury service, consumers take their time to continue to dream and it is very exciting.

Therefore, they search a lot and try to match their careful selection to meet their dreams. In this stage, luxury brand marketing kicks in. From brand positioning and promise till reputation, brand marketing helps the luxury consumers on a pleasant, exciting, and promising decision.

The second stage is where the luxury consumer meets the luxury seller to buy and sell. Luxury sellers are the brand representatives or ambassadors. This meeting means more than a transaction exchange. This is the stage when the luxury consumers expect a luxury service in-line with the quality of the luxury product itself to make their dreams come true.

The luxury brands spend a lot of effort, time and capital with creativity, promotion, marketing, and communication; designers and artists spend a lot of effort to identify

distribution, and so on.

Then, the time comes for the luxury service experience to sell the luxury product to luxury consumer, from person to person, after the consumers have decided on the brand and product. Lack of luxury service should not be the cause of failure after all the above effort.

The third and the final stage is the experience stage, where the luxury consumers make their dreams come true with the luxury products and the

a social marker and positioning in society; acquiring the luxury good alone makes the consumers happy whether they use the product or not. The mere act of acquiring a luxury good brings joy, regardless of its usage. Subsequently, this experience transitions into brand loyalty.

In conclusion, the relationship between luxury and time in stages is very important and understanding this relationship greatly helps to strategize and manage the luxury business professionally.

My Zeekr experience was truly a Journey into Innovation. The tours with Zeekr provided an unparalleled glimpse into the heart of their operation, beginning with a visit to the Zeekr Centre, a hub of creativity and technological

prowess. Following that, we also visited the Geely Brand Centre which showcased the synergy between the parent company and its ambitious offspring.

We then ventured on to drive the Zeekr 001, Zeekr X, and Zeekr 007 at the Ningbo International SpeedPark. The opportunity to test drive Zeekr's flagship models was exhilirating and we were able to do a few laps with each car. Each vehicle exemplifies Zeekr's ethos.

ZERO TRUST SECURITY IN ACTION: MEET THE NEW CHECK POINT CLOUDGUARD

It's no surprise that compromised or stolen credentials are the leading attack vectors year to year. Overly permissive user and service accounts are created in a rush due to the agile development process - only to be abandoned after a few uses, leaving them vulnerable to hackers. This focus on velocity makes it increasingly difficult for organizations to know who has access to what data, and across which platforms.

According to Gartner, 75% of security failures will result from inadequate management of identities this year.

Many security professionals are concerned about the ease of overprovisioning and effectively managing access to reduce risks. To tackle this concern, organizations require tools that empower them to

remain efficient while minimizing risk. The implementation of Zero Trust helps organizations reduce their risk and defend against credential-based attacks.

The Zero Trust model was established by Forrester in 2011 and provides a guiding principle of never trust, always verify. In traditional security models, there is an implicit level of trust placed in every user, device, and network within an organization's network. As I'm getting stuck into my, no doubt later regretted, second helping of roast potatoes, I often find myself thinking about those whose work gets busier at this time of year. Their hard work keeps essential services running, allowing the rest of us to have a safe and happy holiday season, and for that I am incredibly grateful.

There is another group that also find themselves working around the clock during the holiday season, that you should also spare a thought for. No, not Santa and his elves, I'm talking about cybercriminals. Cybercrime goes up by a sizeable 30% in the festive period, meaning cybercriminals are at their busiest.

You might be asking, why this increase? It turns out the holiday season is definitely the most magical time of the year for scammers.

There are several things that contribute to this, but two major factors are 1) people tend to spend a lot of money online at this time of year, 2) people tend to be busy and often feel more stressed than usual. This means that in a lot of the world, stressed, busy people are likely relying on System 1 thinking (the fast, effortless, instinctive, non-critical type of thinking), to make decisions about spending large amounts of money. It’s a scammers’ dream come true.

WHAT CAN YOU DO TO PROTECT YOURSELF FROM FESTIVE FRAUD?

• Have a rough idea of what scams to look out for. Be on the lookout for fake delivery notifications, fake shopping sites and sellers, fake gift cards and vouchers, fake charities, and fake travel offers.

• Incorporate some simple measures to up your protection, like keeping a healthy level of skepticism, doing your research before taking action, choosing payment methods with more protection like credit cards and PayPal, and setting alerts up on your banking accounts.

More than just a dial change however, the newest version of the Chronomaster Sport also takes a page from the “DeLuca” and “Rainbow” references of the 1980s and 1990s with a blue dial and polished steel bezel.

Winner of the 2021 Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève “Chronograph” prize, the Chronomaster Sport is the culmination of ZENITH’s unrivaled legacy in crafting automatic high-frequency chronographs. Pushing the boundaries of high-frequency precision, it features a 1/10th of a second chronograph function, with the elapsed time graduated over 10 seconds on the bezel. Sporty, contemporary and unmistakably a ZENITH El Primero, the Chronomaster Sport now comes in an all-steel exterior with a striking blue tricolour dial.

Featuring elements inspired by the most emblematic El Primero references and even ZENITH chronograph references produced before the calibre’s introduction in 1969, the Chronomaster Sport with blue dial heavily draws inspiration from two particular El Primero references: the “DeLuca” from the late 1980s and the “Rainbow” of the early 1990s.

For the first time in the Chronomaster Sport steel core collection, the engraved 1/10 th of a second bezel on top of the 41mm steel case with pump-style pushers is crafted in stainless steel instead of ceramic. With its

polished surface and black filled engraved markers, it takes on a decidedly retro look, recalling those older El Primero models. The three-link steel bracelet with adjustable clasp completes the sporty-chic look.

Metallic blue with a sunburst finish, the dial of the newest Chronomaster Sport masterfully blends contrasts, textures and depths. And yet, it is not out of historical context. Both the DeLuca and Rainbow were made with blue dial options. One of the most iconic El Primero design features – the tricolour dial – is highlighted in a new context. The chronograph counters in shades of grey and blue are as outstanding as ever, with a difference in tone and finish between the blue counter and the blue dial. The date wheel has also been matched to the dial.

The latest in a long line of ZENITH chronographs that have raised the bars of performance and precision, the Chronomaster Sport is equipped with the latest version of the El Primero calibre, dubbed the El Primero 3600. With its high frequency of 5 Hz (36’000 VpH), the movement offers a true 1/10th of second indication. Its autonomy has also been rendered more efficient, with an extended power reserve of 60 hours. The sapphire display back provides an unobstructed view of the movement’s contemporary, architecture features a sleeker and more open design, revealing a blue column wheel and open rotor marked with the five-pointed star Zenith.

Embroidered artwork celebrates the marque’s very own Phantom rose that blooms in the courtyard of the Home of RollsRoyce. This special flower is illustrated in the Gallery and on the coach doors. In addition, the flowers are depicted in the Starlight Headliner which took over 200 hours to complete. Four species of butterfly – Swallowtail, Peacock, Common Blue and Duke of Burgundy – can be seen flitting amongst the blooms.

ROLLS-ROYCE BLACK BADGE GHOST ÉKLEIPSIS PRIVATE COLLECTION

Explores the captivating interplay of light and darkness as the Moon obscures the Sun during a total solar eclipse.

The fully Bespoke Starlight Headliner includes an animated sequence replicating the moment of totality: a circle of 940 fibre-optic ‘stars’ represents the corona around the Moon’s silhouette, surrounded by a further 192 ‘stars’. The animation remains visible for precisely seven minutes and 31 seconds – the longest possible duration of a total solar eclipse.

The illuminated fascia features 1,846 laser-etched ‘stars’ in a symbolic timeline of a total eclipse. The design culminates in a Bespoke timepiece incorporating a brilliant-cut 0.5-carat diamond set into the bezel, recalling the ‘Diamond Ring’ effect.

GHOST CHAMPAGNE ROSE

Ghost Champagne Rose celebrates the commissioning client’s signature colour, inspired by her digital persona @ ChampagneRose. Creating a single-tone colour across both exterior finish and interior trim is exceptionally complex; materials absorb and reflect light differently, and the eye perceives slight variations if exactly the same colour is applied to all surfaces. The Bespoke Collective therefore developed numerous formulations of the ‘Champagne Rose’ hue, each subtly adjusted according to each material’s specific surface characteristics – a true technical and artistic tour de force.

The Emaar Polo Cup 2024 will return to the Dubai Polo & Equestrian Club from 3rd January 2024 from 2 PM onwards. Officials today announced the teams and match details at a live draw and revealed the tournament fixture and an impressive AED 120,000.00 in prize money (AED 80,000.00 for the winner and AED 40,000.00 for the runner up).

Sponsored by Emaar, the event is the first of its kind in the region to offer cash prizes to its players. The medium-goal tournament will witness prominent polo teams compete to reach the grand finale on 13th January 2024.

HSMAI MIDDLE EAST CONCLUDES 6TH ANNUAL ROC COMMERCIAL STRATEGY CONFERENCE

The Hospitality Sales & Marketing Association International (HSMAI) Middle East successfully concluded its 6th Annual ROC Commercial Strategy Conference, the last of the Global, Commercial Strategy Conferences after London, Toronto, Singapore, India, and Korea.

The event’s theme was around Connect Evolve Lead. Connect: Phil Bedford, MSc, Asentiv Worldwide, shared an inspiring keynote on networking in the hotel industry. Evolve: Steven van Belleghem, a Customer Experience Enthusiast spoke about the story of evolution and the infusion of genuine Customer Culture. Lead: Michael Dominguez, Associated Luxury Hotels International (ALHI) spoke about The Importance of Culture, Understanding the importance of humility and starting with building the right team members.

The HSMAI conference was a remarkable gathering of minds, highlighted by global keynote speakers whose insights were both relevant and thought-provoking.

The conference also featured engaging roundtable discussions that fostered dynamic exchanges of ideas providing attendees with key take-home messages on the latest trends and strategies in the industry, emphasizing innovation, customer engagement, and futureforward thinking.

The ROC Star Awards held during the second day of the conference, acknowledged three top talents nominated by their peers for their exemplary achievements and influence in the hospitality sector. Nine nominations were selected by the advisory boards from a total of 41 submissions. THE HYPE TRAIN AND THE CRASH

The first of January comes with a societal pressure cooker, often setting unrealistic expectations. The hype encourages sweeping declarations, not sustainable goals. By February, the train of high hopes crashes into the hard reality of daily routines, leaving resolutions derailed.

Vague Visions and No Roadmaps

“Get fit” or “save money” are ambitions

without anchors. Without specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound (SMART) objectives, these visions float in a sea of ambiguity, lacking the structure of a strategic roadmap.

THE LONE WOLF SYNDROME
