5 WHY CHOOSE US?
A GUIDE TO THE RIGHT LEARNING STYLE
Our professional and technical courses will help you reach your next step by developing knowledge and gaining a range of transferable practical skills that will assist you when you decide to enter the world of work. The chart over page may help you decide which course type is right for you:
FULL TIME STUDY PROGRAMMES
Our full time courses aim to prepare you for your next step after college, whether that’s in to employment, an apprenticeship or on to university. You will be encouraged to undertake work experience placements, develop your maths and English, participate in enrichment activities and expand your subject knowledge and technical skills.
APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAMMES
You may want to consider starting an apprenticeship directly from school, or to progress onto one once you’ve completed A-levels or a full time professional or technical qualification or T Level.
What is an apprenticeship?
Apprenticeships combine real work experiences in a paid role, with structured and supportive learning at college. Apprentices are full time employees within an organisation and earn a wage. After completing an apprenticeship, many apprentices retain a permanent role with their employer.
Universities are increasingly accepting Advanced Apprenticeships (Level 3) as part of the entry criteria for some courses, and Higher Apprenticeships (Levels 4 & 5) can also offer an alternative route to Higher Education, without the debt of university.
What apprenticeships are available?
Eastleigh College offers different levels of apprenticeship including: Intermediate Apprenticeships (Level 2) Advanced Apprenticeships (Level 3) Higher Apprenticeships (Level 4 & Level 5) How long is an apprenticeship?
Apprenticeships range from between 13 months and four years depending on which apprenticeship you undertake. Most involve day release, where you will attend college for one day a week, while some involve block release, coming to college for a whole week then remaining at work for three weeks.
How
do I get an apprenticeship?
To become an apprentice you will need an employer. You will therefore need to apply for apprenticeship job vacancies or approach an employer in the industry. We have links with many local employers and may be able to help you find a vacancy, or provide you with support to approach potential employers yourself.
These are across a wide range of industry areas as detailed; please check the course pages for more information

This year we were proud to announce the launch of University Centre,in partnership with University of Portsmouth. Receiving this official recognition has allowed us to widen our HE provision, offer a greater range of learning facilities through access to the UoP campus and provide more education opportunities post-college.
Studying at University Centre can be an intelligent and cost-effective alternative to a full university degree. As a Further Education college, our funding structure ensures significant savings to students who choose to study with us. Students will be able to enjoy a diverse learning environment, high quality teacher guidance and access to our popular Learner Hub, which received national recognition this year for its support services to students.
University Centre offers Higher Apprenticeships at Level 4 and above, equivalent to the first stages of higher education, such as a foundation degree. We also offer flexible part-time HE professional courses designed to fit around your other commitments, as well as ‘Access to University and Higher Education’ Diplomas – these Level 3 courses are designed for mature students who wish to progress to university to study a degree. Applying for any one of the above courses is easy and can be done via our web site.

23 UNIVERSITY CENTRE EASTLEIGH
One of our proudest moments over the past academic year was becoming the first further education college in Hampshire to obtain College of Sanctuary status, for our commitment to welcoming and nurturing those who have fled from war. This has been an important priority to us for many years, but officially being recognised as a College of Sanctuary has enabled us to become a public beacon for refugees and we have since welcomed hundreds of students from Ukraine, Afghanistan and other countries suffering from war and conflict.
For refugees and those who have been displaced, further education colleges are often where they begin their education in the UK, with specialist provisions like ESOL and SLUKY helping them to gain the skills to create a life and future in this country. We hope this new development will act as a springboard to help foster a regional network of FE Colleges across Southern England.
