CREATIVE & Digital

FOREWORD
In the heart of our vibrant college, a pulsating energy of creativity and innovation thrives. It is with immense pride that I present the annual of our Creative and Digital Industries department, a testament to the ingenuity and dedication of our students and faculty. This showcase is not merely a collection of projects; it is a narrative of journeys, a series of interconnected stories of discovery, learning, and achievement. Each page you turn reveals more than just academic excellence; it unveils the passion and perseverance that drive our students to push the boundaries of what is possible.
The Creative and Digital Industries faculty at Fareham College has always been a fertile ground for nurturing talent, and this year has been no exception. Despite the individual challenges faced, our students have adapted with resilience and have continued to excel, harnessing the power of digital and traditional technologies to create and communicate in ways that were once unimaginable. The works featured in this annual span a wide array of disciplines within the creative and digital industries. From graphic design to hairdressing, from game development to production arts, our students have immersed themselves in their crafts, honing their skills and refining their visions. They have learned to collaborate across disciplines, to think critically and creatively, and to solve problems with innovative solutions.
As you explore this annual, you will encounter the future of the creative and digital industries. You will see how traditional techniques have been blended with cutting-edge technology to produce work that is both beautiful and functional. You will read about projects that address real-world issues, that engage with audiences on a deep level, and that contribute to the cultural and economic vitality of our society. This annual is also a reflection of our commitment to providing a comprehensive education that prepares students for the ever-evolving landscape of the creative and digital sectors. Our curriculum is designed to be dynamic, to respond to the latest trends and technologies, and to equip students with the skills they need to succeed.
I would like to congratulate all the students whose work is featured in this showcase. Your achievements are a source of inspiration to us all. I also wish to express my gratitude to all the staff who have guided and supported these talented individuals on their educational journeys. As we look to the future, we are excited by the possibilities that lie ahead. The creative and digital industries are at the forefront of innovation, and our college is committed to being a leading force in this exciting field. We invite you to join us in celebrating the accomplishments of our students and in anticipating the contributions they will make to the world.

AMELIE LEWIS
What is your project about?
The theme ‘connections’ was given to us to base our project around. I decided to show the connection of Greek Mythology and the Constellations within our night sky. I already knew of some of the stories in Greek Mythology that talk about how the constellations were created. I decided I wanted to show these stories and represent them visually through my own art.

What is your favourite thing about the college?
My favourite thing about this college is the support we can get from lecturers and staff. This has been able to help me feel safe and comfortable. My favourite thing about my course is the freedom we have with our work because even if we have to practice a specific skill, we are able to create whatever we want within that skill. Especially with my exam project, the freedom to create what I want has expanded as I can explore my passions and interests alongside my art.
What
are your next steps after college?
After I finish college I want to find an apprenticeship within the industry and continue my studies with art, and get myself out there while earning the degree I want. However if this doesn’t work out I will go to university and achieve my degree that way as I believe a degree is necessary for me to achieve my dreams and goals for my career.
What are your greatest strengths?
Illustration and painting, which I apply into my work, experimenting with different techniques. I have explored digital illustration in the Procreate app, physical illustration, collage illustration, etching and a form of concept art to show what I think the characters in the stories look like. Even if they are just initial sketches I am still showing my own concept of what I think the features of the people are within the stories I have researched. In painting I have experimented with a range of mediums such as watercolour, acrylic and gouache.

What skills have you developed at college?
The college has provided many tools, materials and mediums which has allowed me to experiment with new skills. For example, I have learnt cyanotype printing, screen printing, embellishment, weaving, shibori, embroidery, high contrast photography, and more. I have also further developed my painting, illustration and sculpting skills. I am grateful for being able to learn and develop all these techniques regardless of my prior experience, because I have now expanded my creative skills further than ever before.
BAILEY HUDSON
What has been your main inspiration?
I chose Astrology as my theme for my final project, as it is very personal to me. I have an interest in astrology as well as space. I am knowledgeable on the topic and it is often the subject of my personal art, so I wanted to bring my skills and knowledge further and make a living piece of art dedicated to my fascination of the stars.
Do you have a favourite thing about the college?
I have developed a lot of confidence and independence whilst at Fareham, I am given a lot of trust to manage myself and to problem solve but I also know I can find help whenever I need it. There is always someone who knows the solution to any issue and support is always available for me no matter what. Trusting that I am safe and supported whilst being given the space to grow has been the best part, aside from having a great teacher that encourages me every step of the way.

What skills have you developed at college?
I have gained many physical skills such as being able to correctly use a sewing machine as well as troubleshoot it. I learnt to cut patterns and read from a pattern book confidently and my abilities to hand-sew have improved a lot over my two years. I have also developed my research skills and the ability to link my research properly throughout my projects and using it to support me as I develop and improve all of my work.
What is your current project about?
My current project is focused on specialist practice, and I have chosen to design and make a clothing piece or collection with an astrological theme. I will be using my skills in design and sewing to create a piece or collection with a custom pattern print that I’ve designed myself. I am currently working on what technique I will use to create my custom print and get it transferred onto fabric, as well as fine tuning the pattern so it is perfect and will give the effect that I desire.
What are your next steps after college?
I am going to the University of Portsmouth to study a degree in fashion, I believe that it will help me to progress towards my desired career of working in fashion design and possibly running my own brand and making a name for myself.
What are your greatest strengths?
My greatest strength is my attention to research and creativity. So far, these skills have helped me to begin developing and designing my custom pattern print and find ways to bring it from a drawing to a physical print that I can experiment with and test the quality.

CADIE BROWN

What is your favourite thing about the course?
My favourite thing about this course is the creative freedom to explore and experiment with my own personal themes and topics of my choice. I have been given the freedom to think outside the box and experiment with ideas that are personal to me. This has made me more confident around my final outcomes.
What has been your main inspiration?
I wanted to focus my project around the influence of Hip Hop culture on society today. I wanted to mainly explore fashion and music trends inspired by Hip Hop throughout my project. Throughout my college years I have been set on the fact that I wanted to make a magazine. This has stemmed from the fact that I am interested in reading Vogue and I have been obsessed with my collection.
What are your greatest strengths?
My greatest strengths are my digital skills. I have learnt how to use programs like Adobe Package and Canva. This has helped me experiment with the way I display my work. It has made it easier to make mood boards for my projects and to help me direct my project and visualise my concept. My other key strengths are my writing skills and how I use these to convey my research into my projects portfolio. This has helped me to be inspired to complete workshops and experiments. and my research has helped me generate more ideas and learn new techniques.
What is your project about?
My project is about Hip Hop culture. I wanted to do my final project on Hip Hop culture as my personal style and interest are heavily inspired by Hip Hop culture. I want my project to be portrayed into a fashion magazine. I have experimented with Canva and Adobe to construct my ideas.

LEVEL 3 ART & DESIGN
CARENZA CHISNALL
What has been your main inspiration?
I’ve always enjoyed designing characters. Most of my pages in my sketchbooks are filled with drawings and character designs. I like to focus on the human form, I enjoy exploring intricate features while having the freedom to express and create my own designs.
What skills have you developed?
I acquired and developed many new skills throughout my course. For example, as part of the commercial art brief, I made products and sold them at a local christmas market. I found the experience enlightening on how creative businesses are run, and I would like to explore more of this in the future. Some of my most recent skills have been through the exploration of clay sculpting and sewing, I have learned many new types of stitches and learnt how to embroider flowers, exploring some new textile methods.
What is your project about?
For my current project I chose to explore character design. I have analysed a range of different images for my inspiration, as well as composition and style, and using photography when exploring people as visual research. Some key points of interest for me have been colour theory, fashion, shape psychology, and visual language, as each play a role in an audience’s first impression of a character.
Do you have a favourite thing about the college?
I enjoyed being able to explore a wider variety of mediums than I did in secondary school art education. Working in the art studio was fulfilling as it gave me space to create and work on my own amongst other artists. Also the access to a range of materials was great for my experiments.

EMILY HOUSE
What has been your main inspiration?
My main inspiration is to improve my art style enough to go into animation or game illustration or a similar thing for animation (like creating concept art for an animation or video game etc). since I was little, I used to make bluetack models and do a bunch of doodling, but nowadays I do lots of drawing in my sketchbook and occasionally on my computer with my graphics tablet. I’m hoping to try out animation soon with my art style but I’m still learning after drawing properly for over 3 years.
What are your greatest strengths?
My biggest strength is being able to draw and sculpt very quickly, since I can do a quick sketch with detail in between 30-50 minutes (depends on the sketch), the sculpting part, seen with my wendigo sculpture, where the painting took under an hour because although I rushed it, the details and paint came out very well and detailed.

What skills have you developed at college?
The skills I’ve been able to develop are mostly selftaught, but one of them is being able to draw bird/angel wings properly, which helps with my theme of power which I’m going with. Since I know I’m gonna be drawing a lot of angel wings throughout the final project, I’ve also been able to learn how to draw deer skulls and antlers better with the wendigo part of the myths project, which helped me sculpt the wendigo skull for my sculpture, it helped me draw them on paper with understanding and detail.
What are your next steps after college?
Well this seems to be a tricky question, since I switched courses during my time here at the college. The thing that’s been on my mind a lot, is potentially progressing to Level 3 Art & Design course, since with my current position I have lots of freedom with my drawings, sculpture and even research, since this course is giving me more of a choice and lets me be creative in my own way. So I might progress into Level 3 Art & Design.
What’s your favourite part of the college?
I have made a few friends while I’ve been here, it gives me someone to talk to while I work and brings me positive company; another thing is the freedom I have on the projects, it helps improve my art style and lets me be creative with my work like my wendigo and biblically accurate angel doodles and drawings which fits with the Myths, Legends and Folklore project previously (and my current final project).

What is your project about?
My previous project was about Myths, Legends and Folklore which was about some legends and rumours among people long ago like from tribes and townsfolk; while my current project/ finale project is about the theme of Power and how power changes the world, people and how it’s expressed in different ways.
LEVEL 3 ART, DESIGN & FASHION
LILY SANDERSON -SNARE
What has been your main inspiration?
I have chosen to focus on water within this project due to the challenge and its unpredictability, whenever I have travelled and lived, I have always felt a connection to bodies of water and wanted to showcase that in this project. I wanted to challenge myself and my skillset as I think that water is really difficult to represent with accuracy.
What’s your favourite part of the college?
The lecturing staff are very supportive and helpful and encourage me to challenge myself consistently during the course. Studio environment is very calm and conducive to creativity - I always feel warm, comfortable and relaxed when in the studio, and able to organise myself and work effectively and efficiently.
What is your project about?
For the current project I am working on, we were provided with the theme of “Connections” as the brief, I have directed my focus onto water, and the idiosyncrasies within this compund. So far, I have explored a wide variety of materials such as embroidery and thread work, suminagashi (Japanese art of water marbling), tonal pencil illustrations and more. The artists and contextual focal points I have chosen, revolve around complex techniques, while also favouring my traditional skillset, and will all contribute towards my final piece, where I plan to create a mixed media work including both water elements, but also tying in portraiture as this is my preferred focus and style.
What skills have you developed at college?
I have developed a range of skills, mostly are material experimentations, such as screen printing and sculpture. I have stepped outside my usual comfort zone and pushed myself to try and explore more techniques. I am now combining new techniques and styles with my original passion for tonal illustration and developing a stronger portfolio.

What are your next steps after college?
My main goal is to travel the world - I would love to pass my driving test, purchase and renovate a van that I could live and travel in while creating artwork inspired by what I see. I could set up online stores and ship globally, working remotely from wherever I am. I would potentially consider a level 4 course or something in the future to develop my knowledge of my industry.
SOPHIE HARRISON

What is your project about?
My theme for this project is nature. My main interest is lino printmaking, while on this course I have developed many lino prints, recently I made one of my designs into a wallpaper using Adobe Photoshop, creating a repeat pattern. My intention for this project is to further refine my skills using lino methods, whilst exploring the beauty of nature. I plan to expand my prints into products.
What are your greatest strengths?
My strengths are creating lino prints inspired by nature. Another strength is using embroidery stitch to enhance and embellish sections of my lino prints. The stitched details add texture and enhance the overall prints, which makes them stand out. I also enjoyed transforming my lino prints and editing my lino prints into a patterned wallpaper design. I would like to continue creating wallpaper designs during this project and beyond.
Selling my work gave me the confidence and inspiration to start selling more.

What has been your main inspiration?
My inspiration has been nature, I love to create lino prints of flora and fauna. In a previous project I created bird lino prints including a Hummingbird, a Kingfisher and a Robin print. In this current project I have decided on the theme nature so I can continue to create more bird lino prints to add to my growing collection.
What skills have you developed at college?
During my time at Fareham, I have learnt lots of skills, for example this year as part of the commercial art project I created a range of original products which I sold at a local christmas market. Selling my work has given me the confidence and inspiration to sell more of my work and to think about setting up my own online business in the future. Over the course I have also improved my time management skills and organisation skills which has allowed me to fulfill my intentions. I have also continued to develop and refine my practical skills, creating a credible portfolio of work. I have learnt to create work to a high standard to submit on time.
TASMIN BROWN

What is your project about?
I am createing a fashion zine that focuses on streetwear. I am including, interviews, adverts, fashion trends and insights into specific streetwear brands. I am aiming to focus on working digitally so that I can practice skills that I would use at university and in the real-life workplace.
What has been your main inspiration?
Streetwear is my favourite style within fashion and it is something that I have followed for years, so it’s very personal to me. I love the deep history of it and how it has developed throughout the years. I feel like this is going to be a fascinating topic to research and use as inspiration within my work.

What are your greatest strengths?
My biggest strength and skill that I use in my work is working digitally. I enjoy creating aesthetically pleasing concept boards to gather my ideas together. I have been using Canva and Landing to help me with this and I aimming to stretch myself by using Adobe programmes. I can practice this as this is a programme that I will be using within my university study.
What is your favourite thing about your course?
I have enjoyed the fact that this course has allowed me to work digitally and physically. This has enabled me to develop a wide range of skills that I have been able to transfer to all my projects and develop them. This has also allowed me to narrow down what skills I am confident at so that I can use them within my final pieces.
What skills have you developed at college?
Since being at college, I have developed my research skills. This has helped me when researching and gaining confidence on skills and techniques that I want to use within my projects. I have also learnt how to do a range of design techniques that I have enjoyed using within my work.
What are your plans for after college?
I aim to go to university next year to study Fashion Public Relations and Communication at London College of Fashion. After this, I would like to get a career in the fashion industry.

JESSICA HALE

What are your next steps after college?
I’m looking forward to progressing onto the Level 3 course, and cutting my families hair and eventually opening my own salon.
What are your greatest strengths?
I have a very critical eye and attention to detail, I have used this on all my haircuts. I’m aware that going forward with this course and into the workplace I need to address this, as being in a college is about practicing rather than trying to be perfect.

What does your project entail?
This course has a mixture of theory and practical work. This develops skills which we will take into and apply in the workplace. It is building our abilities and confidence.

LOUIS WALLBRIDGE
What are your next steps after college?
Once I finish college I am already lucky enough to have been offered a job, so once I finish my course, I will be going to work straight away for a barber shop to refine my skills that I have learnt at college in the real world of barbering. Then eventually I would like to own my own chain of barber shops.
What are your greatest strengths?
I think my biggest strengths are attention to detail and my technique, these different strengths enable me to progress at a good rate by making sure the work I am producing is to a very good standard and also checking to make sure my attention to detail is as good as I can make it.
What does your project entail?
I am learning to cut men’s hair at college which currently entails of a mixture of practical and theory sessions. The practical lessons are cutting mannequins hair using various different methods and styles to improve our skills over various haircuts. The theory lessons are where we will learn the science about hair to enable us to understand hair more when we enter a barber shop. Both of these different lessons will get us ready to enter the real world of barbering by having as much knowledge as possible.
What has been your main inspiration?
I have always been very interested in hair and how hair works, I have had a hair transplant previously so I studied it for that. I also like how aesthetically pleasing it is to cut hair.
What skills have you developed at college?
The skills that I have learnt at college are, the ability to cut men’s hair to a very good standard in such a short period of time, but also learning the in’s and out’s of hair and the science behind it all which allows you to be more prepared for when you are in a barber shop.
What’s your favourite part of the course?
I enjoy everything about my course as it’s something that I am very passionate about and I’m looking forward to having a long and successful career in barbering.
ELLIE WOOLRICH

I am currently learning various treatments, such as manicures, pedicures, facials, waxing and make-up. This also includes all the underpinning knowledge for these subjects such as anatomy. We also work in a real-life working environment, treating clients. This develops our communication, time keeping and commercial skills.
What are your greatest strengths?
I feel that I am a kind and compassionate person. These are important traits to have when working within this industry. We will see many clients within a working day, and I would try to treat everyone as an individual, understanding their concerns and making them feel better while they are with me. I always strive to do the best I can in both theory and practical elements.
What has been your main inspiration?
I really enjoy making people feel good about themselves. I feel I can achieve this by learning everything I can about the industry to apply my knowledge and expertise to my future clients.

I have really enjoyed the social side to college. Our tutor group is very friendly and supportive, and I have made new friends since I have started here.
What skills have you developed at college?
When I started my course at Fareham College, I was quite nervous about talking to peers, teachers and clients. I am generally a quiet person, so I needed to focus on developing my communication skills. With the help of my teachers, peers and our client workshop, I now feel confident in speaking with everyone and I know I have the knowledge to be able to guide my clients with both their treatments with me and their homecare.
I always strive to do the best I can in both theory and practical elements.

I apply this by making sure my treatments that I perform are to a high standard and I spend a lot of time on the detail making sure the client is satisfied with the outcome. I pride myself on my standard of client care, I always make sure my clients enjoy their treatment with me and they are happy with the results. Clients always provide good feedback after their treatments. They like that I am conscientious and want to provide them with a high standard of treatment.

PAIGE BURKE

What has been your main inspiration?
I have chosen to undertake this course as I love all things ‘Beauty’. I am most interested in facial treatments and skin care. I want my clients to have confidence in my ability to provide advice and guidance to improve their skin and, in turn, improve their confidence and how they feel about themselves. I would like to work within a spa environment when I leave college, with the long-term goal of working for myself.
What does your course entail?
I am currently learning various treatments, such as manicures, pedicures, facials, waxing and make-up. This also includes all the underpinning knowledge for these subjects such as anatomy. We also work in a real-life working environment, treating clients. This develops our communication, time keeping and commercial skills.
What skills have you developed at college?
When I attended school, the commute was walking distance. However, when starting college had to use public transport on the trains. Having never done this before, it was daunting but something that has built my confidence to be independent. My time management has also been a skill I have learnt due to using the public transport and working around my timetable.
What are your next steps after college?
I would like to work within a spa environment initially, followed by working for myself in the future.
What are your greatest strengths?
I am a very self-motivated person and am well organised in all aspects of my college work. I ensure I always work to my individual targets in relation to assessment completion. I am a social person, which is extremely important when treating clients and speaking with members of the public.

T-LEVEL DIGITAL PRODUCTION, DESIGN & DEVELOPMENT
BENITA RAPHAELS

What has been your main inspiration?
My main inspiration has been my concerns for the climate, as well as a love for being active. Before college, two of my main passions were gymnastics and cross country - and I love nature, going on walks and taking photos of the environment, so I hope the app helps preserve our beautiful world.

What does your project entail?
I am designing an app where the vision is to promote the use of green travel by everyone in the world – especially “developed countries”; who rely heavily on unsustainable forms of travel. We intend to do this by encouraging our users to travel via environmentally friendly methods, such as walking, cycling, or public transport. Our app should benefit users by improving health, saving money, and helping our worlds ecosystems.
What skills have you developed at college?
I feel that I have managed to significantly improve my time management skills, my ability to perservere and my collaboration skills since joining Fareham College.
What are your next steps after college?
After college, I hopefully shall enter straight into employment or begin an apprenticeship or a degree.
What are your greatest strengths?
I’d say my greatest stregnth is co-ordinating teamwork - on the project, identifying all our different strengths, ensuring we were allocated tasks that played to them. Another of my main roles tying up the project, making sure we had tangible outcomes and understood what part we were all playing.

T-LEVEL DIGITAL PRODUCTION, DESIGN & DEVELOPMENT
DIMO ROSENOV
What’s your favourite part of the course?
Everyone is really relaxed and friendly. My favourite thing about the course definitely has to be the coding. I love working on and creating projects as it’s the way I learn, I love to see the results when they’re finished. Although, a close second for the course would be that I’m always learning something new which helps keep me engaged.
What has been your main inspiration?
My main reason for my work direction is how flexible
Software Engineering can be. Typically, you’re able to work remotely, with flexible hours, good pay, and you’re able to work on innovative projects to help tackle the future.
In my opinion, this is a great path to go down as you don’t necessarily have to work for a company.
What are your next steps after college?
My plan is to pursue a degree apprenticeship in software. Once I finish it I’ll either stay with the company, join a different company, or I’ll create my own digital solutions agency. However, if I’m unable to find a degree apprenticeship, I’ll likely do a computer science degree at university while also creating an agency.

What are your greatest strengths?
One of my biggest strengths has to be my determination to make things work. This has been a great help to this course as projects can be long and difficult so it helps me push through. Another one has to be problem solving. This is extremely important when it comes to this course as we have to always figure out how to make things work and especially comes in use during coding/cybersecurity lectures. My third final biggest strength would have to be my team work. I’m always looking to help out my teammates to see if there’s any areas they need help in.
What does your project entail?
Software engineering is all about developing digital solutions for businesses and organisations. This includes developing the front end (make the program/website look good), the back end (make the program/website function), the security, and even working with project planning tools. The course I’m undertaking has helped me significantly with all of these aspects, as before I didn’t know what I was doing.
What skills have you developed at college?
I have greatly developed my social skills, teamwork, and public speaking. This is because we usually have to work in groups in most lessons and usually have to do a few class presentations a week. I’ve also developed my coding and graphic design skills significantly as we’re constantly doing projects. The projects can sometimes be quite difficult/long, so this has led me to develop my discipline quite well!

T-LEVEL DIGITAL PRODUCTION, DESIGN & DEVELOPMENT
HOLLY ANSCOMBE
What skills have you developed at college?
During my time at Fareham College, and my course, I have developed multiple valuable skills for my sector. I have learned how to communicate in a team effectively, as well as how to lead, how to create robust, responsive and user-friendly websites. Moreover, I learnt budget management, time keeping, tracking valuable trends, and collaboration. I believe these skills will allow me to prepare for the workplace ahead of other students.
What’s your favourite part of the course?
My favourite thing about T-Levels has to be the work placement experience that they provide. This gives students hands-on experience with real companies in the sector. I’ve been to smaller companies and a large government organisation, which has provided me a bigger understanding of the workplace that I will be going into compared to students taking an A-Level.
What has been your main inspiration?
I’ve always been very indecisive when it comes to the route I want to take with my career, I’ve undecided between Web Development and Software Engineering. I haven’t had any inspirations either, computing has always been around me and I’ve always been interested in coding due to my father’s job. My ideas for solutions stem from how I think about the user’s experience when creating the main project requirements and I can optimise the experience for the user.
What does your course entail?
My course is about creating robust digital solutions. These can range from web applications to mobile applications. This course prepares students for many different job types, such as Web Developer, Software Engineer, Data Analyst, Network Architect etc.
What are your greatest strengths?
I had the privilege of engaging in a work place experience at the Ministry of Defence. Here, I applied my team-coordination skills to collaborate with a fellow student in a 2-week sprint project. One of my biggest strengths is adapting to how other people work, which allowed us to complete the project in time for the prototype presentation. Throughout this opportunity, I honed vital skills such as collaborative teamwork, website development, React Native and user experience (UX) design, each contributing to my personal growth.
What are your next steps after college?
I am aspiring to have a job or apprenticeship in either Web Development, Software Engineering or Project Management. My main goal is to achieve a distinction level grade for second year on my course to have an advantage against other applicants.

T-LEVEL DIGITAL PRODUCTION, DESIGN & DEVELOPMENT
OLLY HOWE
What are your greatest strengths?
I would say that my biggest strength is the ability to lead a team and communicate ideas effectively, these skills have ultimately been gained at Fareham College as I have progressed through the years, but I have been able to apply them directly in Hampshire Constabulary. I currently lead a team of two, making sure that we meet deadlines and goals while developing all our apps which has been challenging but made easy by the skills I gained.
What does your project entail?
The main project for my course is to develop a full stack website based on several user requirements and specifications set by the “client”. We need to apply several different skills learned throughout year 1 and 2 to propose, design and evaluate a digital solution. We developed this website using five different languages and had 67 hours in total to complete this project.
What are your next steps after college?
I plan to progress to a degree apprenticeship where I shall continue website development, I don’t have a specific company in mind but I know that I want to continue a path in front end development. Additionally, I plan to find a job as a front end website developer with a well developed company where I could take on the role of a senior web developer.
What’s your favourite part of the college?
My favorite thing about the college is the amount of practical work experience that you gain from work placement. Being able to experience an industry and learn about how they operate has proved to be an invaluable aspect of the course. I am currently part of two placements, one at Hampshire Constabulary and the other at the Ministry of Defense/ Navy, these have helped me develop many of the skills I will be using in industry which has once again been amazing.
What skills have you developed at college?
I have developed my public speaking skills immensely at Fareham College from doing simple presentations in class to presenting apps in front of stake holders at Hampshire Constabulary and the Navy, I have been put out of my comfort zone numerous times which I will admit was not a fun experience, but has certainly developed my confidence as well. I definitely feel as though Fareham college has improved my ability to think on my feet and generally just think clearly in stressful situations.

JONATHON LLOYD-JONES
What does your project entail?
Our project focuses on using the skills we have developed throughout our two projects that have been completed over the year. Both on the design side of the production as well as the technical side with coding at the forefront of our development. Our theme is developing a 2D game for a popular franchise with the five that are included being: Fallout, Pokémon, Star Wars, Grand Theft Auto (GTA), and Dungeons and Dragons (D&D).
What has been your main inspiration?
My main inspiration for my work direction are the friends I have within the gaming industry as well as my admiration for the pieces of art that are the video games being produced all over the world. Seeing many talented people work together to create experiences for millions of people to enjoy, creating new experiences to remember for years to come is admirable.
What skills have you developed at college?
I’ve developed many skills throughout the year, one of which is Coding. Learning C++ and GML code has been a blast and becoming well versed in these coding languages will allow me to follow the path I want to walk on. Another is my communication and presentational skills, while as a voice actor, communication is important, it wasn’t always necessary, however, having to present to showcase my game, talk to other students to get advice and direction on the projects we are on. All these have helped me improve these skills exponentially.
What’s your favourite part of the college?
Creating video games, and learning about how they are created and being able to apply those skills is exciting! Nothing beats when you code your way around an issue enabling your game to function as intended or finishing a feature you have worked on and applying.
What are your greatest strengths?
My biggest strengths is coding, organisation, diligence, and voice acting. Finding new things to do with code and being able to apply them is an extremely satisfying process that has previously allowed me to develop a stable game for my first project. Organisation and diligence, making sure everything is done at a timely manner and hitting every single deadline that is only possible through good organisation. Lastly, my skills in voice acting that I’ve developed throughout the years. Having this in my arsenal means when creating games, I won’t need to require as much external support for voice work.

MONTY REES
What does your course entail?
Within game design, we must follow through the steps to make a fully-fledged game. There are three main paths we have learnt within game design and that is the game design itself which includes aspects such as game theory, target audience, and overall game concept creation. Game Art which covers colour palettes, 3D and 2D models/ sprites, 2D animation and more. The final path is coding in which I personally specialise in, which includes the aspects like mechanics, the stringing together of the whole game through code, everything from the UI to the movement and shooting.
What are your next steps after college?
I plan to go to the University of Portsmouth following the coding route. I plan to gain the necessary skills and experience to work in a company and then hopefully when I’ve done this, work as part of a team, where I get to harness all my skills.
What’s your favourite part of the college?
My favourite thing about this college is the different insights you can gain. When learning by yourself you can often get stuck just due to simply looking at things one way, but not only my peers but my lecturers too give me the extra support I need to develop. I also love the wide range of skills we learn, you learn all of it here, it gives the confidence to choose your own path whether it’s to work on your own, or with a team, or as the coder/artist.
What has been your main inspiration?
I used to play Far Cry and Ghost Recon quite often when I was younger and because of this I have always had a strong aspiration to make games like those one day. Also, I knew coding was right for me and that it would be my specialisation. I knew this because of previous lessons throughout the years where I have done small parts of coding and thoroughly found a passion for it.
What skills have you developed at college?
The skills I have developed at Fareham College are punctuality, leadership, coding on Unreal and Game Maker, 2D/3D art and reaching the target audience. We have been monitored on attendance and had to set targets and a frequent one of mine was punctuality, not always because I was not coming in but mainly due to lateness on assignments, it wasn’t always, but just having that little goal to reach to perfect my time management therefore improving my punctuality. Often we are put in groups for assignments on projects and I found myself taking the role of leader on multiple accounts and this lead me to learn how to use everyone’s strengths to the whole teams advantage.
DONNA HERBERT

What is your project about?
I am investigating the aircraft used in WWII. I’m looking at creating them as models outputted on a laser cutter. I’m looking at making these from plywood that slot together. I’m also exploring blueprint making via the cyanotype printing process.
What has been your main inspiration?
My inspiration for this, is that this year marks the 80th anniversary of D-Day, a topic that I am wishing to learn more about. I did not learn about it at school, but I have been aware of this historic event over the years. It was my mum who recently mentioned about this year being the 80th anniversary, and this got me interested in exploring this event further.
What are your greatest strengths?
One of my strengths is digital drawing, I can easily create work in Adobe Illustrator. I am also very determined to succeed, I do not let obstacles get in the way, I will always push through. For example, last year, I was very ill and in and out of hospital, but I still wanted to do my college work and keep busy.
What is your favourite thing about the course?
As well as enjoying the range of materials and tools to use on the course, I do like the environment of the course, it’s not overly stressful, it’s chill and quite enjoyable.
What skills have you developed?
When I first started at Fareham College, I had no idea on how to use Adobe Photoshop or Illustrator, but after all the lessons and project work I have done, I have become quite confident and adept at using them to create my pieces of work. During the course, I have also learnt how to use a laser cutter, and transfer my designs onto various products.
What’s next for you after college?
I have applied to study at university, where I have received some offers, but I am keeping my options open, where I am also investigating apprenticeships within graphics. My goal is to work in advertising, where I would make logos, marketing campaigns, and branding.

I feel that I have developed my creativity a lot during this course as perviously stated. I feel like I can fully explore my ideas because of the equipment that the college can provide me with. I also believe that I have developed my confidence during this course as well.

What has been your main inspiration?
There has been a wide range of different inspirations for the designs I have made, for the one displayed, it was heavily inspired by Pokémon and old Japanese posters, the reason for this was that I want my branding to use a range of cultural ideas and art styles. My later designs will be inspired by Spanish art and culture and even 1920’s cartoon style art.

I believe one of the greatest strengths I have is my care for others and I love to make sure others feel appreciated and respected, as I believe a positive personality will always help you throughout life. Another strength I feel I have is my creativity, I believe I have developed it a lot while during my course.

I am currently exploring the idea of branding and this will entail the exploration of clothing designs and how I can make my own custom pieces of clothing, such as, t-shirts and hats. This has always been something that has interested me as a person, I will also explore some ideas that will be taken from different cultures from around the world.
What is your favourite thing about the college?

Once I finish college, I will hopefully go into interior design, doing an apprenticeship and potentially moving on to university.
What has been your main inspiration?
Within the course my main inspiration has been creating art to do with a subject which I feel passionate about. The reasoning behind my current project direction is due to my curiosity within my families history and why my family has lived in places like Jamaica and Hong Kong.

What is your favourite thing about the college?
My favourite thing about Fareham College is how easily accessible all resources are and the independence I am given in my course.

MEGAN SMITH
What is your project about?
Currently I’m responding to the exam theme of ‘Connections’, where I am experimenting with different ideas and designs, my recent work is investigating how space and art are connected. I’m testing digital collage as my medium, where I’m hoping to visualise how everything is connected. I aim to represent this as a series of posters exploring different elements.
What skills have you developed at the college?
My self reflection has improved during my time at college along with digesting feedback from my teachers. I can take on board what they have said and I am also able to develop my work further. I have also developed my target setting, where I create goals and work hard to achieve them.
What has been your greatest inspiration for your work?
I’ve always been interested in space since my childhood, I’ve always researched into, and found the idea of space fascinating. Alongside this I’ve been interested in music and how when you listen to a song, you can immerse yourself into it and escape. When these two subjects collide, my imagination goes of the scale. For the collage technique, I have drawn inspiration from Sato Masahiro, David James Armsby and Mariano Pagella.

What is your favourite aspect of the college and course?
At Fareham College I have enjoyed most aspects, however, I have enjoyed my learning and the people along the way. With my current course, I am really enjoying how I have been taught, my skills and ability to use software like Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator have grown really well.

BEATRICE VILLANUEVA

What has been your main inspiration?
My favourite genre of any Film/TV show are thrillers. I am always in awe of how psychological they are and the suspense that is created through all different elements of mise en scène, editing, writing and more. I specifically took inspiration from the BBC TV show ‘Bodyguard’, especially the tension that is carried throughout that show. It is something I wanted to replicate in my own short film.
As well as this, thrillers are cinematically beautiful and I wanted to hone my practical skills by practising my ability as a cinematographer. It is something I have worked towards for the past 2 years; as a final farewell to college I wanted to put my best foot forward.
I have done a variety of different projects within my time at college, and I wanted to make something that is vastly different to my projects that I have completed in the past. I have never written a comedy, and I wanted to push myself as a filmmaker by writing some comedy elements into my short film. The production and collaboration of adding in the comedy elements was an incredible experience, I had a lot of fun and that is what the industry is all about.
What’s your favourite part of the college/course?
My favourite thing about college is the people. I have been surrounded by so many different like minded and incredible people.

What skills have you developed at college?
I have learnt and developed a lot of practical skills at Fareham College. When I started college in 2022 I did not know how to turn on a camera, and I am now leaving in 2024 with a greater skill set that I have been able to practise within my different college projects. You learn everything on this course - for example I know how to complete the whole creative media process ranging from the idea generation to the distribution of your project. You learn what you enjoy and you also learn your weaknesses.

My final major project this year is a comedic thriller entitled ‘What Did You Do?’. It follows three characters along the emotional rollercoaster of a crime interrogation to do with a murder. The pair of detectives seek out justice for the victim by drilling the murderer into confessing the crime that was committed.
EBANI HALL

What does your project entail?
My project is about producing product photography and advertising it to a selected audience that the company targets. For this I will be photographing jewellery and a bottle of prosecco as I can create playful and imaginative ways to present these products to the audience.
So far I have been researching photographers such as Timothy Hogan, as he is a main influence within the work I am creating. In addition to this, I will be setting up a social media plan for the product as I will be taking this on as if I was someone who was hired to do a marketing campaign for it. When creating this project I will be testing what works for the product and what captures the attention of the selected audience.
What skills have you developed at college?
During my time at Fareham College, I have developed an understanding of social media and how companies show their products to the the audience. For example, I have looked into the different platforms such as Instagram, Facebook and TikTok, these platforms allow businesses owners to present their products to the different age ranges through the selected platform. I have also developed my understanding of movies and how everything is on the screen for a reason, such as how Steven Spielberg uses the colour yellow to suggest danger instead of red.

What are your greatest strengths?
I feel my biggest strength is problem solving and how I can think of different ways to adapt that into my work. I am able to think on my feet and I am able to look into the areas that I need to change or improve. I am also able to communicate properly when needed, for example, when exchanging conversation with a client I feel that I correctly give the needed information to them in a professional way and can take on their criticism.
What are your next steps?
Once I finish my second year of my course I will be moving onto university and pursuing a marketing/advertising course there. This will allow me to develop my knowledge I have already got from my time at Fareham College, university will also open me up to many opportunities with my future career.

From my course I have a new found passion for marketing and creating adverts. Fareham College has allowed me to be creative with my work and I am able to be expressive with my opinions and decisions. Throughout my time at Fareham college I have gained new friends in my course that share the same passion as me.

LEVEL 3 CREATIVE MEDIA

My favourite thing about this course is the creative freedom when it comes to individual projects. Also, another thing about this course and college is the support and effective teaching from lecturers and general staff.
What skills have you developed at college?
The skills that I have developed during my time at Fareham College include practical skills in the operation of equipment and the standard practices that are used within the film industry on set and throughout the process of a project. Also, throughout my time I have learnt the theories that there are within the film industry. These skills have helped me with my projects.
What are your greatest strengths?
I would say that my biggest strengths are in research and story creation. The ways in which I have applied these to my work is by applying my research skills to work out what makes a strong storyline. Another strength that I have is the technical knowledge and abilities that I use to effectively capture visuals.
What are your next steps after college?
The progression plans that I have for when I finish college is to progress onto university. I plan on studying Film Production at the University of Portsmouth.

What has been your main inspiration?
My main inspiration for this project is to cover a topic that has a lack of representation within the current society. Highlighting certain issues that can have a impact upon many people in different ways. Another work direction for this project is to bring awareness to the subject matter and make people see different perspectives.
What does your project entail?
My final major project is a dramatic short film which will follow the story and experiences of a character who has lived through a distressing experience. Throughout this, there will be a focus on the long term impacts of this character’s experience. Further to this, the story will also focus in on how the character will accept their past and this is what my project will entail. Furthermore, this project will also aim to bring attention towards this topic and to spread awareness for this topic.

LEVEL 2 CREATIVE MEDIA
JACK YOUNG
What skills have you developed at college?
At the beginning of the course we looked at the basics of filmmaking. Each week was dedicated to a topic such as cinematography, it started with theory and then practical tasks. The tasks were used to develop our skills to then be able to complete the assignment.
The first project was a Halloween music video where there was lots of trial and error. During the filming I developed the skills of time management and managing a project. This has helped with the other assignments on the course as well as my final major project.
Another skill that has been practised across the course has been storytelling. I have developed this through creating short filming and scripts, that I have used it for this project by creating the backstory.
What are your next steps after college?
My plans for after Level 2 is to go onto Level 3. I want to explore my options within the creative field. I have always wanted to work with making cars in some form, from doing this course and staying with the creative industry I am looking at maybe doing films and photography with them instead.
What does your project entail?
My project is based on a fantasy map as well as writting a short story on how it became what you see. I’ll be making the map using the ‘rice method’, which is achieved by scattering rice across a large peace of paper and outlining it pen to illustrate the land, as a finishing touch I’ll be dabbing a wet tea bag on the paper to create distressed look.

What’s your favourite part of the college?
Two of my favourite things on the course have been the overall atmosphere in the classroom. Everyone is willing to have a joke with one another and have good conversation that still links to the course. It’s a relaxed atmosphere that is always helpful with coming up with ideas. I have been supported greatly by two of my friends, Frazer and Jermaine throughout the course. Additionally, the support on the course has been great and always available when needed. During the final major project, my lecturer has been opening up the classroom early to allow for extra time on my project.
What has been your main inspiration?
My main inspiration for this project has been the map of Middle Earth. From researching the topic, I found that the map is a reflection of the United Kingdom. Tolkien was very inspired by the woodland and countryside that we have, so the layout of the map reflects that. Additionally, I love going on adventures just like they do in the books. If I see a tree I must climb it. So I was very drawn by the natural landscape.

LEVEL 2 CREATIVE MEDIA
SAVANNAH PALLISER
What does your project entail?
My idea is to make a burn book from Mean Girls but I’ll be photographing fantasy characters such as fairies, mermaids, princesses etc and I’ll put them into my book and use medieval words to describe the characters. All of my pages are coffee stained with dried flowers and ripped out newspaper adorning them. I will also create different spells to curse my characters, for example, a spell to make someone instantly die will be included.
I got this idea because originally I was making a book and was going to take photos of different characters and writing quotes to match the photos. My idea can be used as a prop for a film. The book is owned by a character I’ve created who is jealous of the other characters and wants to ruin their lives in order for her to be happy.
What skills have you developed at college?
I have developed a better knowledge of creating a story and my use of different vocabulary. My lecturer also says that I’ve become a really good filmmaker.
What are your greatest strengths?
My biggest strength is my ability to make things look visually attractive and aesthetic for people to look at. Another strength that I have is my photography skills.

What has been your main inspiration?
My main inspiration for this project has been Vampire Diaries because in the show they have this book called a “Grim hold” which contains witches spells and is initially a diary.
What’s your favourite part of the college?
My favourite thing is having a supportive lecturer like Shannon. She makes me feel so valued as a student and pushes me to do my very best. I really appreciate everything she’s done for me.
What are your next steps after college?
When I finish this course, I would like to move on to Level 3 Creative Media. When I finish college I want to travel the world and take aesthetic photos of different cultures and different places. Then, I want to become a band photographer and do concert photography. I am also interested in starting my own business selling my artwork.

LEVEL
4 CREATIVE MEDIA
TIA LUCKING
What skills have you developed at college?
I have developed numerous skills at Fareham College. Some of the skills I have developed are communication, because of working with people with similar interests. I had evolved my teamworking skills, as in Level 4, our short film unit required us to make a short film with a team and not by ourselves. I also learnt about how to market my film. I gained a deeper understanding about film composition and the technical side of using a camera like using ISO, aperture and shutter speed to convey different feelings and emotions. Before, I had a basic understanding on editing but I now have a further knowledge on editing with professional editing software.
What has been your main inspiration?
I got the idea for my film from ‘Grim Salvo’ who are an emo rap duo. I was particularly inspired by some of their songs, including Walt Disney Wormdog, Ergot and HEART OF DARKNESS. Their songs have a creepy undertone to them which gave me the idea of making something dark and disturbing.
What does your project entail?
I am working with a team to create a short horror film called ‘Obsession’ which is about a character called Ayla who was brutally attacked by a stranger who ripped out her eye. Now seeking revenge, she breaks into his flat and finds increasingly disturbing and more psychotic “trophies” revealing that his obsession with eyes goes a lot deeper than she thought.

What are your greatest strengths?
My greatest strengths is that I have adapted to using not only high-end cameras and DSLRs but my main camera is a hi-8 camcorder which I use because I like the authenticity of using old technology that takes tapes and I like the final look which modern cameras can’t replicate. For Obsession, we are shooting on the Black Magic Pocket Cinema Camera but I regularly use my hi-8 camera for personal projects.
What’s your favourite part of the course?
My favourite thing about my course is the media teachers as I like their effective way of teaching but they are also genuinely nice people who are here to support me and my classmates whenever we need it.
What are your next steps after college?
I’m going to continue with film and enrol in to a film production course at university. Alongside this, I will also be focusing on my social media account ‘2orture’ where I will be posting fashion like content.
LEVEL 2 MUSIC KEELEY LIGHT
What will you do after you finish college?
After I’m finished with college, I’d like to be in a band and write songs as I’m focusing on becoming a songwriter. I am looking to join a band with the aim of possibly touring around at small venues and then increasing to bigger and better venues and travel around the world. With the knowledge I’m learning, it can help me to achieve my goals for the future.
What’s your favourite part of the college?
My favourite part is the people I connect with, joining bands and performing at gigs. Having other musicians around makes me feel comfortable with what I want to accomplish. I feel excited as I learn something new whether it’s a skill or a strength. I have more self-belief now when I show off my ability to other bands. One part I really enjoyed was having the workshop with industry professionals, it left me feeling inspired and convinced to keep going with what I want to do.
What has been your main inspiration?
I have always had a big passion for music ever since I began to talk. I’d say one of my biggest inspirations is my music taste, I have a variety of bands and genres that I listen to which expand my ideas to create and add to my performances. I would love to inspire others who are interested in taking part of the music industry and show ways that performing. As a musician can be a lifechanging experience just like the way it was for me.
What is your course about?
My project entails learning a wide range of everything regarding what is involved in the whole music industry, from production & sound engineering, professional studio recording, commercial aspects & performance goals. After starting my Level 2 Diploma course in Music at Fareham College, I have been performing at live gigs and learning how to create music in a professional way.
I have more selfbelief now when I show my ability to other bands.

What skills have you developed at college?
I have developed more confidence in myself. Before I came to the college, I had no idea what the future was going to entail especially learning bass guitar as well as progressing my vocal capabilities. Another skill I have learnt is setting myself targets and achieving them. Learning to become part of a band, listening to other students ideas and experimenting with other suggestions to ensure we all reach maximum potential. Organisation is something I have recently been taught to be more involved with, as I used to struggle with having a routine but I’m now used to having a schedule which helps me out greatly.
LAURA PINILI
What has been your main inspiration?
My project inspiration is the theme of pain, which I communicated through my band’s song choices and outward appearance. We have maintained a consistent image since the beginning of our first year, and find that it fits us well, and we work to our full potential this way. My inspiration for the course however, has been my drive to create, and to establish myself as an independent musician.
What are your greatest strengths?
My biggest strengths are my commitment to others, creativity, outspokenness. teamwork, and willingness to improve. I apply them to my work by prioritising my band, and pitching in any ideas I have to those I work with. I always try to make contributions during lessons even if I am wrong, because I can learn from my mistakes.
What skills have you developed at college?
I have developed my musical technical ability since starting at Fareham College. I had only been playing bass guitar for two years when I joined in September, and found that I have improved much more in such a short amount of time. I have also improved my performance skills - I feel much more comfortable on stage now than I did before.
What is your project about?
My current project is my final major project, which leads up to a concert at Quay West Studios in May. I must work in collaboration with my band by selecting songs to create a setlist, rehearse, create a band identity brand/theme, etc. It requires consistent individual study and good instrumental knowledge, as well as the ability to work in a team.

What’s your favourite part of the college?
My favourite thing about my course is how all encompassing it is. It covers all areas of music: performance, music production, theory, business and industry and more. I love that it trains me and my classmates to become wellrounded musicians, preparing us for the professional world.

LEVEL 3 MUSIC MAY JONES
What skills have you developed at college?
The most noticeable skill that has developed for me is my social skills. Before I came to Fareham, I wouldn’t even think about singing in front of others nor going out with my friends after college. My course and lecturers have supported me though the beginning stages of college where I struggled to make the connections that so many others had.
What’s your favourite part of the college?
My favourite thing about Fareham College is definitely how nice and friendly the staff are. Both the teachers on my course and my tutor have close relationships with each student to where we feel welcome to go talk to them if we have any issues or need help. My favourite thing about my course would be the facilities that we have access to.
What has been your main inspiration?
Previously, being a shy and quiet student, music only entered my life in secondary school where my music teacher inspired and persevered with me. Fareham College has further supported and inspired me allowing me to express my creativity in a safe and fun environment.
What are your greatest strengths?
My biggest strengths are my leadership skills that have grown since coming to Fareham. I am now confidently able to express my ideas and opinions and often help others to express theirs. In addition to this, since attending Fareham my ethos on teamwork has strengthened and this is evidenced by my enthusiasm with working with my peers whereas before I’d prefer to work alone. Another strength that I am proud of is my knowledge in music theory. Having this knowledge unlocked and accessible makes being a musician so much easier in many ways. I am able to understand the components in greater detail and be able to play a lot better.
What are your progression plans?
Though I’m unsure what path I’m going to take, I have two options that are the most interesting for me. My first option is staying an extra year and doing the level 4 H.E course and then go to university. Or the other option is going straight to university after my second year. I’m still not sure what university I’d like to go to but I have been looking at Brighton since it’s so big with the arts.

What’s your favourite part of the course?
My favourite thing about the course is the individuality among my peers. Everyone is their own personality and it’s genuinely wonderful to experience. Almost all my time at college is spent smiling or laughing at remarks and I have made and strengthened a handful of friendships and relationships over the past two years. I also get to spend all my energy as a student on a subject I love, I get called crazy for it but I go to sleep every night excited at the fact I’m going to college in the next morning.
What skills have you developed at college?
At Fareham College I have developed as a professional. It has helped garnish my professional mindset, as well as a thirst for more knowledge about my profession. Through Fareham College my hobby has became a career. I have also learnt vast amounts of information about the nitty gritties of music theory, as well as what it means to be in the industry, which I greatly appreciate for me to take the next step.
MAX EAMES
What has been your main inspiration?
My main inspiration for music has been solely my love for, and thirst to learn more about it - my desire to be a professional musician is extremely strong and has been the majority of my life. On the other hand, for this upcoming gig Ingrid and The Schmucks have been deeply inspired by a plethora of sources, spanning from Alice In Chains’ deep and depressive distortion to the roots and rhythms of funks greats. I am also performing in Grandpa Wants Plums, a function collective creatively expressing some of the top pop and rock tracks from the 2000’s and 2010’s. Our joyous act brings you desirably groovy takes on the radios favourites such as Cake By The Ocean (DNCE), Runaway Baby (Bruno Mars) and Teenage Dirtbag (Wheatus).
What are your greatest strengths?
I find my biggest strength is my creativity and eye for art. I have always been an artistic person, even as a child, and as I’ve developed as a musician, my free will when it comes to self expression has only gotten stronger and I often find myself using musical instruments as an extension of myself. This upcoming gig I believe showcases some of the best of what I, individually, have to give currently as an artist. My touch to these tracks, both originals and covers, has seasoned them like salt and vinegar to fish and chips. I truly believe if you got another bassist to play on these songs, with these musicians, the product would be completely different, which is arguably one of the greatest things about music.
What does your project entail?
I am musician who is currently working towards a final performance as a class at the Wedgewood Rooms in Portsmouth produced and organised solely by the students. After this gig, my band Ingrid and The Schmucks (est. 2022) will all be going our separate ways due to university and we are aiming to go out with a bang! I am a bassist that has been specialising in the instrument since September 2021 after previously being a drummer, however, as the years have passed I have learnt to play many more instruments and learnt much more about music as an art and expression.

TOM STURROCK
What are your greatest strengths?
In my opinion my strengths are my groove and showmanship,. I’m never too shy to spin a stick or fling my arms about on stage because it’s what the audience wants and that’s what they deserve, my groove is in everything I do and play because if it doesn’t groove, you won’t move.
What does your role entail?
I am a drummer. The role of the drummer in the band is in a basic sense is to keep time and keep the band in check. However, the hidden art of the drummer is to add taste and groove to the song if you didn’t have drums you wouldn’t have music.

What skills have you developed at college?
I have developed so much at Fareham College, my fills and feel have improved massively to the point were I wouldn’t recognise myself playing if I was to see myself today from where I was.
What are your next steps after college?
Once I finish Fareham College, I want to continue on to university and then hopefully progress into the industry.
What has been your main inspiration?
My main inspiration is from the band KISS and 80’s hair metal bands. This band and this era inspired me the most to pick up the sticks because of the showmanship, especially on KISS, they’re like gods on stage, each member is visible and larger than life which not only gives you a good show but captures everything about a performer, you’re here for us and we’re here for you, we are one.
What’s your favourite part of the course?
My favourite thing about the course is the people and most importantly the music we make together. It’s fun playing on your own to the songs you love pretending your on stage in your practice room, but when you’re with people who you click with on an actual stage giving everything you have it’s a different feeling. With Fareham, they gave me the opportunity to get my foot in the door and now I hope it never closes.
AIMEE PRATT
Where will you go after college?
Once I finish college, I plan to take a gap year where I will further my skills through continuing to take classes and taking part in short courses as well as saving up money in preparation to apply to a drama school. I aim to be able to attend a three year degree course, aiding entry into the industry through intensive hours and due to the majority of them being central or close to London. I believe from my training at college, I have gained skills that will increase my likelihood of successfully auditioning for drama schools in the future.
What
are your greatest strengths?
Being motivated, prepared, and being dedicated. I apply motivation to my work to ensure I get my work done in time and perform to the best of my ability. Being dedicated has been extremely useful as it allows me to work very hard within classes and push myself out of my comfort zone.
Do you have a favourite thing about your course?
My favourite thing about this course is the sense of community within our group. This is because both the first and second years support each other as well as our lecturers. From this, it means that we all trust each other and feel safe and confident within our classes which is helpful within our course, in particular where we have to be very vulnerable and perform solo in front of one another frequently.
What skills have you developed here?
At Fareham College, I have developed various skills that are relevant to both the performing arts, and general life skills. These include projection within acting, singing technique, various dance styles, and general confidence within these disciplines. Alongside this, I have gained skills in teamwork, work ethic, determination, motivation, and professionalism.

What has been your main inspiration?
My main inspiration for this practice is from watching various theatre shows growing up and taking part in dance classes and acting groups over the years. Alongside this, I’ve been inspired even further to pursue a career within the performing arts through daily classes at Fareham College, where I have been able to further develop my skills. As well as this, I’m inspired through watching my classmates perform as it motivates me to improve.

AMBER MUNN

What does your project entail?
For my final major project, I have decided to create a lyrical dance piece on how I have learnt to overcome some personal issues and how dancing and performing arts has helped me.
What are you next steps after college?
I have recently been offered a place at university for three years, after that I hope to get an agent and be working towards performing on cruise ships. I’d also like to explore being a performer in a show in West end.
What skills have you built at college?
I have built the confidence in performing since being at college. I used to struggle with getting up and singing on stage, however, this year I have had the chance to sing a solo in our October showcase. My skills in dance have grown far and there is a significant improvement in my techniques overall.
What are your greatest strengths?
My greatest strength is my determination. I always make sure I am trying my hardest to complete something. I make sure that I am giving my all, every time, even in rehearsals.
What has inspired your project?
My inspiration for performing has been struggling with arthritis and proving to everyone that you can still do it even when something might seem like its stopping you.

BENJAMIN EDWARDS
What skills have you developed at college?
I’m driven by pure passion and love for acting.
Ever since I joined Fareham College, I have developed a crazy vocal journey. Back in 2019, I lost all passion for singing and stuck to strict acting. However, since joining the college under the guidance of my lecturers Hannah for acting and Caralyn for vocal work and dancing, I have improved my skills in breath control, pitch tempo, and volume and have got back into singing.
What has been your biggest inspiration for your work?
Ever since I was 8 years old, I fell in love with acting and haven’t stopped since. I’m driven by pure passion and love for the art of acting and performing and hope to one day make it in the industry.
What are your greatest strengths?
I would argue that one of my greatest strengths is my ability to work in a team. I am a people person and love to collaborate with others. I feel that working closely with those around me is so much easier and motivating than sitting at a desk and ignoring everybody all around me. I often find that collaborating with other people and artists around me helps my creativity flourish because it’s very helpful to have fresh perspectives.
In the 2023 musical of Addams family I landed a solo and I got to showcase my skills vocally once more after my long time out of singing. I am also slowly developing self control in focus and presenting and I now feel I can stand in a room infront of lots of people and openly speak and present.
What are your next steps after college?
I want to continue studying at a higher level in London, I would be studying acting on screen. I would also like to get myself an agent.

Where will you go after college?
I would love to explore the possibility of working as a professional performer in all three aspects of singing, dancing and acting. My dream would be to be on stage performing every day and getting to express myself and use my talents. I would like to further my training in order to make this happen at a drama school or university after college. I am nervous although excited to take my next steps.
LEVEL 3 PERFORMING ARTS
MYA READY
Do you have a favourite thing about your course?
I love learning new things and challenging myself in all areas of performing. I have enjoyed all of the projects so far, large and small. I love working with my peers as a cast member and making the productions come to life. Overall my most fulfilling part of college is being challenged and expressing creativity in dance. I love to work hard in dance class and try lots of different styles.
What skills have you developed here?
I am quite an organised person but have definitely improved with my time management and self-discipline with regards to coursework deadlines since starting college. My confidence in singing and holding a vocal melody or harmony line is improving and I am enjoying exploring this. My precision and technical ability in dance is also getting better which is also enhancing my performance on stage.

What has been your main inspiration?
Performing in our most recent production of Beauty and the Beast the Musical as a featured character has really pushed me to work on other aspects of performing such as speaking lines, singing and dancing. I worked really hard on my characterisation for this role and enjoyed the challenge. I feel that this experience has improved my confidence as a performer and not just as a dancer.
What is your project about?
I am preparing for my final major project which is a variety showcase. The theme for my project is ‘The Life of a Dancer’ for which I am performing in eight pieces of different styles and genres. I really enjoy dance but wanted to challenge myself for this production by auditioning for lots of pieces which also include singing in the musical theatre genre.

LEVEL 3 PRODUCTION ARTS
BETH MCHUGH
What skills have you developed at college?
Communication through client consultation, building confidence, make-up application, hair styling, characterisation make-up, ageing makeup, laying on of hair to create fake beards, face painting, layers of the skin, layers of the hair, health and safety such as patch testing/PAT testing/COSHH/PPE, colour theory, undertones of the skin are just some of the skills.
What are your greatest strengths?
My creativity. I love having my own vision of what I want to create and bringing it to life with make-up. Another one of my strengths is special effects make-up, and blending the eye looks when applying glam make-up. SFX makeup has always been my favourite as this is what inspired me to start make-up all those years ago.
What does your course entail?
Being a make-up artist means building relationships with clients, and completing the look to suit their needs. It is very versatile, in terms of doing bridal make-up to create special effect looks using prosthetics which completely transforms the model into their character. The theme for our final major project is ‘Fantasy’ and I want to create a horror/monster fantasy look. Horror films have always intrigued me growing up and special effects was where my interests in make-up started. I used to hate horror films till I started watching them with my dad, once I saw all the different monsters and creatures I was obsessed. I began creating them on myself and I loved how you could fully transform into a character and make it look scary.
What’s your favourite part of the college?
I like how we have control over where we complete our coursework, whether it be at college or from home. I like how we get to have creative control over the practical work we complete. I enjoy the fact we have our own kits that we call our own, instead of sharing with the whole class. We have had lots of opportunities to do work experience outside the college as well as school trips to expand our knowledge, to see what is being produced in industry. I enjoy the course as I have met numerous new friends and just enjoy the course content in general.
What
has been your main inspiration?
My inspiration was from a YouTube video I watched years ago with step by step instructions of how to make your own prosthetic at home. In this video the artist creates a monster with massive teeth, ever since I saw this I was inspired to create my own. For this project I want to use the same techniques I use at home, I want to showcase my skills which aren’t seen at college.

What are your next steps after college?
I want to progress to the second year of the course and get the extended diploma. After that I want to go to university, either Bournemouth (UAB) or London (UAL). Eventually I want to work in movies creating looks with real prosthetics in a busy environment.

LEVEL 3 PRODUCTION ARTS
JENNIFER HACKNEY
What has been your main inspiration?
My inspiration is from cosplay where you fully transform a model into the chosen character, this can be seen today through edited videos online of the before and after looks. I love to cosplay in my own time, because the feeling of being able to become someone else, is exciting and really means a lot to me, I can escape my own reality and worries for a short time, which makes me feel refreshed.
What are your greatest strengths?
I am a student event ambassador for the college and work in open evenings to support visitors where I can showcase my strengths in confidence and communication skills. Another strength of mine is being resilient, when I get knocked down I get back up again, and don’t let anything affect my progress, I’m also dedicated and no matter how stressed I get, I will always give it my all and try my best, I’m not afraid to ask for help or advice if I need it.

What are your next steps after college?
I am progressing onto the second year of the course. After I qualify, I am planning on working in the industry as a make-up artist for either TV or Film or on a cruise ship.
What does your project entail?
My final major project is to create a fantasy make-up look, I took inspiration from my favourite game of all time ‘The Legend of Zelda’. I’ve always loved the games since I was young, and I love that we have the option to choose what we like, so I have chosen something that strongly interests me. Each goddess associates with a theme and I intend to incorporate it into the three different looks Fire, Water and Nature. I will follow a naturistic colour scheme so that this will help to communicate this to the viewer. I am excited to add the photos of my work to my portfolio so that I can present my best work to future employers when I finish my course.
What’s your favourite part of the college?
I am happy that I have made new friends on the course as well as other students in the college, through my student ambassador role and starting my own Dungeons and Dragons club. I like how I was able to choose my own make-up theme for my last assessment, which enables me to complete work based on my own interests outside of college and bring this into my college work. I like the fact that I can access my own study room which is a quieter place for me to focus on my written assignments, without any distractions.
What skills have you developed at college?
I have learnt a great deal since starting the course such as: make-up application for stage and screen, characterisation make-up, basic hair styling and dressing, health and safety, skin types, face shapes, colour theory, face painting and special effects make-up. The transferable skills I have also learnt are communication and presentation skills when collaborating with performers for our work experience placements.

RUBY GAFFNEY
What skills have you developed at college?
I have developed the ability to work on different models with a variety of influencing factors including allergies or contractions preventing the service.
What has been your main inspiration?
I was inspired by several body artists who have explored some similar designs to what I am aiming for, including the addition of textures, colours and UV.
What are your greatest strengths?
I feel that I am strong at adding large amounts of details to the look. I create realism designs through which I have included large amounts in my work.
What are your next steps after college?
I plan on eventually going to attend Bournemouth university to continue to progress and work on my skills
What is your project about?
My look is based on full body painting. I have created a full body skeleton piece which is focusing on the main bones and structure of the body.
