SET FOR SETON

HELLO FROM MR WALLACE

As we reflect upon the whirlwind of activities and achievements of this term, it is clear the bustling corridors and vibrant classrooms have been witness to the remarkable efforts and accomplishments of our students, and I'm sure your school has been no exception

This term brought us the brilliant Year 11 Drama Production of "Little Women" and an impressive Dance Showcase featuring over 100 talented students In addition to these, the Inter-House Arts Competition, led entirely by students from Year 7 to 12, treated us to a night of delightful performances and laughter

In the realm of sports, our Year 10 AFL team clinched victory at the AFL All School’s Carnival, while weekly ACC sporting fixtures, Inter-School Carnivals and the Friday Fitness Club kept the sporting spirit high Our Inter-House Athletics Carnival was a dynamic and competitive event, with a number of broken records and our Athletics team now preparing for the ACC Athletics Carnival in September

We are very much looking forward to seeing you on Welcome Day next term That's when the high school journey really begins for you You will receive more information about this closer to the date, but mark 28 November 2023 on your calendar and start counting down the days!

Mr Chris Wallace - Seton Catholic College Principal Our current Year 7s at last year’s Year 6 Welcome Day

So much to get involved in and so little time!

There are so many things to try out at Seton and you only have 6 years to fit it all in! That may sound like a long time, but it will be over in the blink of an eye! Our advice is to do more than just go to class at Seton - get in there and get involved! Now a word from our Year 12 Captains for Sports, Ministry and Arts, as well as one of our Year 11 Peer Support Leaders and some of our current Year 7s Hi Year 6s,

Sport at Seton

How exciting it is now your turn to start high school!

My name is Tyla Chalmers, and I am the College Sports Captain for 2023 I have loved every moment of getting involved in sport at Seton, and I hope you will enjoy it as much as I have!

I have represented the school in many Associated Catholic Colleges (ACC) and School Sport WA (SSWA) carnivals as well as Southern Associated Schools (SASJ) games afterschool and you can do the same! From swimming, athletics, netball, AFL, soccer or basketball (and so much more!) we have it all Getting involved in the sports Seton has to offer and having fun with your friends is one of the best parts about high school

If you’re not into Inter-School sports, that’s ok! You can still get involved in different House sports, where you compete in your House group in many sports Have you heard of Seton Ball? Well, that is something for you to look forward too! It is a sport full of fun and exciting House rivalry

Are you a runner? Maybe a swimmer? Our Athletics, Cross Country and Swimming Carnivals are something to get excited about These days are full of fun, dress ups and lots of friendly competition with all Houses fighting for the one and only 1st place!

Sport is a lot of fun at Seton and the best advice I can give is that you should get involved in as much as possible! Good luck with starting High school I’m sure you will have a great time!

Ministry at Seton

To the incoming Year 7s

Your first year in secondary school is always the most nerve racking, since you are no longer the oldest at the school, but Seton has nothing to offer but welcoming arms!

My name is Harrison, and I am this years Ministry Captain You may be asking, what exactly is Ministry? This role is an opportunity to help people and give back to the community It doesn’t require you to have been raised Catholic, or be religious, but rather is based around having a desire to assist others who are less fortunate In this position I help organise fundraisers and charity events for the school such as Crazy Sock Day and the World's Greatest Shave, and it is such a rewarding job

Getting involved is the number one tip I have for you coming into the new school year It will help you make friends, show your pride for your Hous you have fun Ministry helps you do all these things, and giving b often makes us feel better about ourselves as well

I i h ll th best settling into Seton in 2024!

Arts at Seton

To the new Year 7s of Seton, How exciting that you are entering a new chapter of your life, high school!!

I am Tiana Garbin and I’m the current Arts Captain here at Seton for 2023 I have been very heavily involved in the Arts at Seton since Year 7 and I highly encourage you to do the same

Here at the college, we offer so many arts opportunities, ranging from music ensembles, dance troupes, drama productions, media clubs, art workshops and so much more We are all about opportunity here so that’s why we want you to try whatever sparks your creative juices in your brain Not only do we offer class elective subjects and extracurricular activities for you all to try , but something we all treasure here at Seton is our Inter-House Arts Competitions which are student-led and are a great experience to be a part of

The Arts calendar is always jam-packed with events happening every term, and through those events Seton students never fail to amaze us with their talent! I am so impressed by the commitment and professionalism we have in our Seton Arts department and the students who are a part of it I cannot wait for you to experience it all when you get here!

I am always so thankful for the Arts at Seton; it's so rewarding and exciting to be a part of something that allows you to express yourself in your own way I’ll never forget my time in the Arts at Seton!

What's a Peer Support Leader

Hello Year 6s,

My name is Harry Spackman and I am one of Year 11s who was chosen to become a Peer Support Leader here at Seton

The role of a Peer Support Leader is to help make the transition from primary school to high school as smooth and enjoyable as possible

Peer Support Leaders are allocated a group of Year 7s to show around the school and answer any questions they may have We play games and icebreakers that can help you get to know your Year 7 peers better

As you arrive on Welcome Day, you will meet your Peer Support Leaders and group of Year 7s We will meet again, once a week, to answer any questions and help you feel more confident at Seton and within your classes This is one of the many systems in place to help with your transition into Year 7 and high school life

If I could tell you one thing based on my own high school experiences it would be that you should take every opportunity that comes your way and get involved within the school wherever possible

My time at Seton is nearly up and yours is just beginning and I hope you make the most of it

See you next year,

An average day in the Life of a Seton Year 7 student

Before School: You will be given your very own locker with its own lock Your locker will be in an area with all the other Year 7 students and this is where you will store all your things Before school starts you can head there, put things away and work out what you will need for your first two lessons You don't need to keep an eye on the time because we have a school bell that tells you when you need to move The other handy thing is that in Term 1 Year 7s get let out of class 5 minutes early, so they can get used to moving around the school and finding where you have to go

Pastoral Care Group Time (15 minutes): Each morning, you'll kick off your day with your Pastoral Care Teacher in a class that includes students from Year 7 to Year 12, all from your House group You'll stick with the same Pastoral Care Group (PCG) throughout your high school years, which means you'll build strong bonds with both your teacher and fellow students It's a great way to start the day with familiar faces and support

Recess & lunchtime: During recess and lunchtime, you will have the opportunity to relax and recharge You will start by visiting your locker to drop off your books If you're hungry and haven't bought food from home, Seton's Cafeteria will have a variety of delicious options to choose from You will also be able to hang out with your friends in the Year 7 designated area or explore other parts of the school For those who are looking for some fun activities, our Learning Hub will options like Lego building, ping pong, board games and even Virtual Reality experiences If you're feeling active, you can join a game of sports in the gym or on the oval, organised by our staff on "active duty " And, of course, don't forget to head back to your locker at the end of recess and lunch to grab your materials for the next two classes

After School: Once you get settled in school, you'll have the opporunity to join after-school clubs, participate in sports training, or receive assistance with your homework at the Learning Hub

Top tips for settling into High School quickly...

There are millions of students all over Australia who are starting High School in 2024 and it would be a safe to say that they are all feeling a little nervous. Here are our 5 Top Tips for settling in quickly.

Don’t be afraid if you feel like you know nothing You won’t be alone You aren’t expected to know everything In fact, you are expected to ask lots of questions

Push yourself out of your comfort zone make as many connections with people as you possibly can and don't feel like you should have a best friend after the first few days of school Make as many friends as possible and widen your friendship groups to include all kinds of people If you just have a small select group of friends you won't learn as much, nor will you feel comfortable if they are not in your classes, or if they are away from school one day or you have a falling out (it happens, usually it is short lived and it is all about learning to have good relationships)

Look to your teachers and your parents for help They have been there and done that They have a wealth of experience that you have not accumulated yet

Don't assume everyone is so much happier and more confident than you Everyone is a little bit scared and if you make the effort to be friendly and supportive of others they will appreciate the gesture

Expect to get lost Most people do High Schools are generally bigger places than Primary Schools Just ask for help - it is a great way to make a new friend and find where you are meant to be

Seton has Facebook, Instagram and Youtube accounts which are updated regularly These give you snapshots of what is happening at Seton - Ask your parents if you can check them out!
