Serenbe and Organic Life Push The Environmental Envelope With A Sustainable Showhouse

T

hough nature is just outside everyone’s back door at Serenbe, health begins at home and is the foundation upon which the entire community was founded. Long before the sustainability trend took off, Serenbe was driving innovation in 2004 as the first EarthCraft Community with all homes certified. In 2005, the Blue Eyed Daisy Bakeshop became the smallest silver LEED-certified building in the United States. And now, Serenbe continues to push the environmental envelope by partnering with Rodale’s Organic Life to create the Organic Life House, which was the first home to break ground in Mado, Serenbe’s newest hamlet focused on wellbeing. The Organic Life House is the first of its kind and a gorgeous blueprint for home building and healthier living.

“The Organic Life House at Serenbe is a physical embodiment of a growing movement towards a sustainable way of living in harmony with nature,” said Jeff Tkach,VP/ Managing Director, Rodale’s Organic Life. “[It’s] an exciting opportunity for us to bring our brand to life in a way that will inspire and enable more people to make more organic, eco-friendly and healthy lifestyle choices in their own homes all across America.” Designed by architect J.P. Curran of Curran & Co. and built by Bobby Webb of BCC Construction, the 6,000 square foot, 4-bedroom, 4.5-bath home features multiple porches and a saltwater lap pool. “There was a clear commitment by the whole team from the beginning to create a house that embodies wellness and a quality of life that embraces Serenbe in

holistic ways,” Curran said. “It is equally important to make responsible choices from the stain on the flooring to window treatments and everything in-between that creates a healthy indoor environment.” The house also features a yoga and meditation studio that will be put to good use by homeowner and yoga instructor Jeny Mathis. “This is an opportunity to think of all aspects of living well, from the design, build and space-planning of the structure to the furnishings and the life that will be lived in that home,” she said. “I love the idea behind Rodale’s Organic Life that ‘… an organic life goes beyond the fridge.
