In-School Program
SEI believes every child has a gift. It is our goal to develop these talents by teaching each student that “Life Has Options.” Our In-School Program begins with students in the second grade. Each student is matched with an In-School Coordinator who provides 24/7 case management and tracks scholastic achievement and behavior.
After-School Program (ASP)
Our After-School Program offers academic support as well as exposure to classes in the areas of health and wellness, performing arts, life skills, and leadership development. SEI works to develop well-rounded students and provide the time and space for each one to explore their interests and strengths.
Summer Program
From June to August, SEI provides academic and life-skill building activities for students ranging from elementary school to college. From 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, students participate in programming for five days a week. Programming includes classroom instruction, field trips, sports, and recreation activities.
Post-High School
We work with students from elementary school through their 23rd birthday. Students undergo college preparation and 85% of SEI high school graduates go on to attend a post-secondary institution or training program. We believe in continuous support as students navigate employment and career goals.
Basketball Camps
SEI was founded as a week-long basketball camp to provide a positive summer activity for African American youth. More than 40 years later, we continue to provide opportunities for student-athletes to develop their craft while also receiving classroom instruction. SEI’s basketball camps aim to create student-athletes who lead with integrity and respect one another on and off the court.
HBCU Tour
HBCUs were created to give Black students an opportunity to attend higher education. SEI created the HBCU Tour for high school juniors to start a conversation around attending a college or university where Black students are the majority. The HBCU Tour excites students about attending college and as a result they have a life-changing experience during spring break.
Transportation
We provide transportation for our In-School, After-School, and Summer Programs. Transportation reduces barriers for SEI youth and families, as it allows our students to arrive on time and participate in the activities we have planned. Additionally, transportation allows SEI to take students on field trips and exposure opportunities around the state of Oregon.
Parent Engagement
Our Parent Engagement Program provides case management, support, and networking to address potential barriers to maintaining a healthy family environment and a positive homeschool relationship.
"My favorite part of SEI's Basketball Camp is the community and sisterhood we build throughout the week. We're a group of Black girls who inspire each other while playing basketball. It's a big party."

We invite former SEI students, staff, and participants to plug in, reconnect, and continue the legacy by giving back to the place that helped them become who they are today.
SEI Ambassadors are advocates and community volunteers who are actively engaged in SEI’s mission through program and event participation and financial investment. Ambassadors commit to an annual gift of $2,500 or more to directly support programs and events such as The Homecoming Music Festival, Black History Month Activities, and more.
