Message From Our President As we complete our 40th Anniversary, we take time to reflect on a very successful past and a very hopeful future. We are the largest Black nonprofit in the state. We service over 16,000 individuals annually. We graduate 98% of our high school students. We feed, clothed and provide housing assistance for our city’s most vulnerable people. We do most of this work in the shadows seeking nothing in return. However, this work has been a lighted pathway for so many children and families in need. From a one-week camp to now seeing thousands of SEI Alumni making positive contributions to society across the nation; that’s what 40 years of putting the community first has achieved. So, what’s next? How do we take the best from our past and create an equally successful future? We will start by being thoughtful, planful, and strategic. The issues of today have created challenges unlike what we’ve ever seen before. New challenges require new solutions, new creativity and new innovation. What that means for us and what that looks like is truly a work in progress. What we do know is that the work and the needs of our clients will continue to evolve. What we know is that we will continue to put the community we serve first. What we know is that we will need the support from many of you to stay successful at this work. The pandemic and the conflicts around race will definitely have an impact on our future. Just know that you can count on SEI to stay in position to do and to be what we’ve always been for our children, families, and community: HOPE, LOVE, RESPECT, SUCCESS.

From SEI’s Development Director SEI Family and Friends! It has been an exciting start in this new role. My 25 years at SEI have shown me that we can accomplish so much TOGETHER, and that every donor, partner, staff, student, parent, and client MATTERS. Every relationship matters and every gift matters, no matter how large or small. I look forward to continuing to meet and engage with each of you. This year we will be asking everyone in our circle to get involved in some exciting new projects!

Director of Development
