Maersk Drilling and Aker BP sign major contract founded on joint alliance Maersk Drilling and Aker BP have agreed to a one-year contract to deploy highperformance rig Maersk Integrator on the Norwegian shelf from June 2019. The contract is founded on the alliance that the parties entered into in 2017 The Maersk Integrator will become the first rig to be contracted fully under the scope of the alliance between Aker BP, Maersk Drilling and Halliburton. When the high-performance jack-up rig finishes its current campaign on Gina Krog in June 2019, it will go directly to Ula for a new one-year assignment with Aker BP. The tripartite alliance was announced last year and focuses on working in collaborative relationships which maximise value for all parties involved. This is established in contracts using a shared incentives model, thereby securing mutual commitment to reduce waste and deliver value. The contracts are based on market-rate terms but add the possibility of a sizeable upside for all parties, based on actual delivery and performance.

“This contract really symbolises the close working relationship between Aker BP and Maersk Drilling that we established in late 2017. This is the first contract fully founded on our alliance framework. With shared incentives, all parties will work as one team towards delivering safe and efficient operations at the lowest possible well cost,” says Jørn Madsen, CEO of Maersk Drilling. In the tripartite jack-up alliance, the parties are exploring new ways of collaborating to increase the efficiency of drilling campaigns. In addition to setting up shared goals and incentives, it includes integrated project organisations, aligned safety procedures, and a one-team mindset guided by the principles of ‘best man for the job’ and ‘best for the alliance’.

Maersk Integrator is an XL Enhanced ultra-harsh environment jack-up rig that is customised for the North Sea. The rig is currently stationed at the Gina Krog field on the Norwegian shelf where it has been engaged in its firstever drilling campaign since June 2015. When that campaign finishes in June 2019, the rig will move south to the Ula field to deploy for Aker BP. As an integral part of the alliance framework, Halliburton will function as service provider for the new campaign. “With this contract, we will truly see the value of our alliance as we work together to reduce waste and lower the cost per barrel on Ula. The collaboration between our companies is under continuous development due to the alliance, and we expect to gain more and more mutual benefits from working together in new and innovative ways,” says Tommy Sigmundstad, SVP Drilling and Wells at Aker BP. Maersk Drilling, Aker BP and Halliburton entered the joint jack-up alliance in November 2017. The alliance aims at lowering the cost per barrel and increasing profitability for the partners through implementation of digital solutions, increased collaboration efficiency, and standardisation and simplification of processes. It is formalised in a five-year agreement with the option to extend for an additional five years. With this contract, Maersk Drilling has added a total of 2,373 days and USD 313m to its backlog in 2018.

hat better occasion, than a specific exhibition for drilling equipment like Geofluid in Piacenza, to show to the drilling world the latest products? The historic Beretta staff, which has been recently joined by young, dynamic, qualified engineers to form a perfect mix, is waiting for you at the booth placed in the traditional position (entrance of Pad.1 between the corridors C-D). The company Beretta Alfredo, which is well known for its versatility, creativity and attention to the development, is going to bring excellent innovations in both foundation and geotechnics. T48 and T209 have been shown in preview in Intermat in Paris last April and they are going to be definitely launched in Geofluid. Both drilling rigs, born according to different needs, have the same aim: offer to the end user the ideal conditions in terms of reliability, efficiency and quality.

T48 is simply unique. It has been designed to get a rig with high performances in the body of a machine of small/medium sizes. T48 is kind of like Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hide: the linear and geometric hood with a cubic shape, gives way to an extrovert kinematic provided by three hydraulic bearings (2 of them can slide on a plate) and one hydraulic cylinder (in addition to the one of the countermast) that allow to place the mast practically in every direction. The crawler is characterized by a variable opening 1000-1400 mm, the rotary head can be chosen with 2 or 4 speeds, in order to get over 2.000 daNm torque (14.751 lb ft). The possibility to have as optional an upgrade of the rig (bigger crawler and mast with 6,5 ton pull-up) and the possibility to equip the machine with a telescopic mast, put the customer in the position to be spoiled for choice! T209 is going instead to complete the Beretta production portfolio with the

T41

introduction of a size which has never been realized before: we are speaking about 25 - 28 ton (55.116 – 61.730 lbs) of weight! The purpose of this project “made in Brianza” is to offer to the end user a drilling rig that respect to the equivalent ones of other manufacturers has higher technical specifications, probably unique. The innovative kinematic, which has been recently patented, allows to realize the front the wall drilling rotating the mast until 210° (105°+105°). The safety cage is the result of a brilliant idea: use two hydraulic motors operated directly from the remote control that rotate the cage along an ideal circumference around the mast; in this way the cage can be opened and closed avoiding the presence of the operator near the safety system. The offer on rotary heads, as is tradition, includes a wide range: 2-4-6-8 speeds, double rotary head (compact or separated), everything obviously “made in Beretta”! The major innovation is on two kinds of new rotary heads: RB5000, provid-

ed by over 5.000 daNm torque (36.878 lb ft) and RB3000 (over 3.000 daNm torque – 22.127 lb ft). Both heads are available in an ideal configuration with double rotary head with unique performances! These State-of-the-Art rotaries are the result of a thorough study: the pressure drop, which is practically zero allows to get the above indicated performances using a very low fuel consumption! You may have never seen this before! If you think that T48 and T209 are the only news that Beretta is going to bring to Geofluid 2018, you are on the wrong way: a completely new line for geotechnics and water wells (GT Series) is going to be launched. It’s really looking like the visit to the Beretta booth is not for the faint of heart! The new models of this line can range from the smallest GT20 with 48 HP engine (Stage 3, 4 o 5, everything you may require!) to the biggest GT90 (154 HP) going through every mid-term size. The idea is to have a choice for every need of the final user. All the drill-

T46/S2

ing rigs of the GT series are provided by an innovative electro-hydraulic drilling panel, which is the achievement of a perfect mix between precision and reliability, accompanied by a high comfort during use. “An imitation may be quite successful in its own way, but imitation can never be Success. Success is a firsthand creation”. We can say that the new face of Beretta in 2018 is perfectly summed up in this famous quote of the popular industrial entrepreneur Henry Ford.◀

Very deep jet grouting More flexibility, more performance, ease-of-maintenance and a better environmental impact, these are the key points of the new restyling of the Soilmec SM-22 John Melegatti

T

he Soilmec SM-22 is an evolution of the historic PSM1350 and SM-20 models that overall have sold more than 300 units worldwide, and have been completely redesigned to ensure high efficiency and productivity levels on site together with the highest safety standards. Thanks to its modular design it can be easily configured in different single rotary fittings, double rotary, top-hammer and vibro-rotary to carry out consolidation, micropiles and anchors with different drilling technologies, direct circulation, reverse circulation, DTH, CFA, jet grouting. With an operating weight of 22 tons the rig is assembled on steel crawler track complete with 2 rear outriggers and 2 extendable hydraulic front stabilizer pads to give an increased stability on any soil formation. It is powered by a Cummins CUMMINS QSB6.7 that delivers 194 kW at 2200 rpm, while ensur-

ing at the same time a low environmental impact due to reduced noise, fuel consumption and emissions. In order to improve the Soilmec “green target the technical department have designed a new type of sound proofed openable canopies giving further noise reduction and located the

Diesel Engine on the rear side of the chassis to easy maintenance. The machine is fitted with proportional, hydraulic servo-assisted controls so that drilling and positioning operations become easy, precise and smooth. Its particular kinematic mechanism composed by a swiveling

boom on a slewing ring driven by two cylinders and a new articulated joint 90° without pins removal allowing the operator to work in parallel to the undercarriage tracks in total safety. In order to guarantee the maximum safety for operators and the maximum handiness of operations, SM-22 can be ordered equipped with radio remote control or with hydraulic/proportional panel on pivotal support arm for all the drilling operations and a wired remote control for tramming. Moreover the base machine is fitted with a fixed control board that display consumption of Diesel engine, rotary rotation speed, working pressure and temperatures of oil & water. The machine equipped with Jet-Grouting version meets the highest application performance for this model. Jet-Grouting technique consists of disaggregating the soil and mixing it with cement admixtures by means of high pressure jets, this technique have been used in a wide range of soils and for several application as: underpinning, cut-off, bottom plugs. Deep columns in single pass means better production and a high quality of treatment so it is very important for a rig to be able to reach high depth in a single step. The SM-22 in jet grouting version features a monolithic mast,

PRA-S line: new generation rock auger The new rotary drilling tool developed by SIP&T represents an innovation in the field of large vertical piling. It is a new generation auger, completely re-designed and manufactured in order to offer higher drilling performance in very hard rock strata John Melegatti

S

ince 1991 the purpose of SIP&T has always been to manufacture a wide range of rotary tools with highest level of reliability and performance in the field of vertical foundations. The search for high performance, combined with the search forever better reliability, has always been the real and recognizable philosophy of SIP&T in construction sites around the world. Numerous efforts have been made, over the years, by SIP&T engineers and workers to offer to customers the best power tool suitable to the excavation. This concept combined with the competent advice received from customers and drill operators, together with

18  PF > n. 3 July-September 2018

the continuous activity and research of technicians in all type of work on construction sites and in soils around the world, has recently led to the creation of the new range SHD, which means simply SUPER HEAVY DUTY. However, SIP&T believes that drilling is a complex and difficult process where the theoretical knowledge must be reflected in the practice and execution. In order to obtain the best of the new hydraulic innovations installed on the machine and transfer properly to the ground, the company has created a new and complete range of drilling tools and accessories. The SHD Line tools has been introduced as product line with the goal of even better satisfying various re-

for SIP&T was: which type of drilling tool should be applied when the rock strength is more than 100 MPa?

PRA-S Line in details Research and development reasons Of the thousands of rotary drilling tools built by SIP&T since production begun in the 1991s with the first Conical Rock Auger, many of these are still in operation all over the world. One of the reasons for this high level of reliability is that SIP&T engineers are firmly in control of the entire process, from design and development to production and comprehensive testing prior to delivery. Perfect matching of drilling rigs, drilling tools and soil conditions is a crucial factor for the success of SIP&T rotary drilling tools. This is why all drilling tools are designed and manufactured within the SIP&T production plans. From choice of materials to compliance with manufacturing quality and permitted tolerances, all individual processes are continuously monitored and documented by the inhouse certified Quality Assurance Department. Many of the ideas, requirements and wishes of the customers are frequently incorporated into the continuous improvement processes. The rotary drilling tools technology represents a world apart; the possibility to transfer the rotary torque through a kelly bar, maybe at 100m depth, to an

The right interpretation of Material Technology Science, the application of many simple mechanical principles and the introduction of Special Technologies for the soil treatment represent the only way to face and solve the ground drilling matters, from soft but cohesive soils (i.e. plastic clay) to very hard and abrasive ones (i.e. granite with compressive rock strength higher than 200 MPa). Rotary drilling tools have been chosen in base of rock strength to be drilled. It should be noted that not only the compressive rock strength (UCS), but also the degree of fractures and number of joints in the rock mass as well as the material’s resistance to tensile, frictional, shear and abrasive forces are also factors that influence both rock drillability and tool durability. One of the most important question

Designed to handle the most difficult drilling conditions, this auger is the evolution of years of drilling experience; it has been studied to work in very hard rock strata having a Compressive Strength more than 100 MPa. The geometry of the chisels arrangement is optimized for reaching excellent cutting performance, the flights pitch has been specifically designed to get better output characteristics for the high torque drilling rigs in order to improve material handling. Auger main features are: ▶▶ High and fast drilling capacity Optimized cutting geometry yields fast drilling rates, due to its flight which increases in diameters progressively and its special chisels and holders, this auger displays excellent ripping characteristics. ▶▶ Low and easy maintenance Replaceable strips in Hardox HB 600 are highly wear resistant while the special setting angle allows the Betek round shank chisels to sharpen themselves as they turn. ▶▶ High operational reliability Quality and design that come with 25 years of experience in the design and production of rotary drilling tools. In conclusion, rock drilling for pil-

ing applications using conventional drill tools is usually limited to rock strengths of 100MPa compressive strength (UCS) or less. The PRA-S Line presents an alternative hard rock drilling method which is suitable to penetrate rock when conventional drill tools become either ineffective or reach refusal. Over the last year, many piling contractors are excavating linear meters of extremely high strength rock in excess of 200MPa compressive strength (UCS) using innovatively designed and built PRA-S Line. This special auger is achieving up to ten times faster production rates than conventional drill tools and up to four times faster production rates than air roller core barrels in similar rock formations and are therefore attractive options for hard rock drilling requirements for bored piles.â—€
