Kubota Corporation

Kubota becomes first japanese winner of “Diesel Of The Year” with its new V5009 engine Kubota Corporation has won the highly-coveted European “Diesel Of The Year” 2019 award – the first time a Japanese winner has been recognised in the history of the prestigious prize. Diesel International magazine awarded the honour to Kubota for its new V5009 engine, marking the first time a non-western manufacturer has been granted the accolade. The V5009 large displacement engine range was developed in response to new, more stringent emissions standards in the United States, the EU and Asia. All industrial machinery manufacturers are now required to build their machines with emission certified engines, incorporating after-treatment devices in regard to the required emission level. Kubota has taken measures to comply with the various requirements from those manufacturers, in order to become the number one choice under 100hp. The V5009 marks its entry into the 200hp class.

Fabio Butturi, the editor in chief of Diesel International said: “It is an appropriate acknowledgement of Kubota’s Japanese engineering, its belief in the DPF (diesel particulate filter) system and improved regeneration technology. The 5-litre displacement will become strategic in both agricultural and construction diesel engines and could become the ‘right-sized’ Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) of a hybrid package of heavy-duty machines, such as maxi excavators.” “V5009 is a genuine industrial engine, with a good balance between reliability and performances, power density and an excellent ratio between weight, volume and performance curves,” Butturi continued. “The fact that Kubota broke with traditional Japanese reserve to announce the 5-liter at the 2017 Las Vegas ConExpo, three years ahead of serial manufacture is a sign of just how significant the new engine is to the corporation.” Daniel Grant, marketing manager, Kubota Business Unit Engine Europe, said: “Kubota is extremely proud and honoured to receive “Diesel of the Year 2019” – especially as the first Japanese winner. It is particularly notable in a year in which new European Stage V emissions regulations have been introduced. This award recognises Kubota’s customer commitment to drive continuous development in new, innovative and highly-efficient industrial engines that meets the market’s needs.” “The new V5009 signifies another chapter in Kubota’s history as the business enters new market sectors with the new 5-liter, high performance, versatile 09 series,” Grant continued. “It is market ready after years of intensive development and validation testing and the Kubota engine teams should feel rightly proud that their effort and investment has been recognised.” The “Diesel Of The Year” award will be presented to Kubota at the world’s largest construction exhibition, the upcoming Bauma 2019 event in Munich, Germany. The V5009 will be featured at Bauma as part of the largest and most comprehensive range to be displayed in Kubota’s history.

Bell Equipment

Fine-tuning Efficiency World premiere Bell B45E 4x4 at bauma 2019 With the front half of the truck being essentially the same as its 6x6 counterpart, the Bell B45E 4x4 is derived from proven high-volume technology and decades of experience. Powering the truck is a 390 kW / 2 460 Nm inline six-cylinder engine from Mercedes Benz, optimised for off-highway use by MTU. This, combined with the Allison seven-speed automatic transmission, contributes to outstanding driving performance while delivering the low fuel consumption typical of Bell ADTs. Wet brakes on both axles ensure safe deceleration and work in conjunction with the Jacobs Engine Brake®, to provide the multi-stage programmable automatic retardation. The standard Bell cab is spacious, offering great visibility and comfort while ensuring safety and productivity. This is achieved through a comprehensive package of productivity, safety and ease-of- operation features, based on real-time data collection by the truck’s sensors (on-board weighing, pitch/roll sensor, etc.). In designing the rear chassis and the 25 m3 bin, the designers followed the design of the Bell 4x4 flagship, the B60E which has been optimised for tough mining applications. A rigidly mounted 55-t-axle supplied by German manufacturer Kessler with 21.00R35 twin tyres ensures a robust solution with a nominal payload of 41.0 tonnes. At the front the truck rolls on 775 / 65R29 tyres that boast high load carrying capacities and high lateral stability, an essential characteristic for a machine intended for challenging underfoot conditions. To improve ride comfort, the B45E 4x4 can optionally be equipped with the Bell “Comfort Ride” adaptive front suspension system.

4  MT > n. 2 - March 2019

Like the Bell B60E, the B45E 4x4 bin concept is along the lines of a rigid dump truck rock bin with bottommounted telescopic tip cylinders. Thanks to its wide geometry and flatbottomed floor, the 41-tonner fits in well with typical quarry loading equipment and offers better filling characteristics than the longer 6x6 ADT bins of the same volume. When carrying sticky material such as clay, optional body heating helps to minimise carryback when tipping. Additionally, Bell Equipment has found that their 4x4 bin configuration, which doesn’t have the traditional ADT dovetail, is considerably better at minimising carry-back than their 6x6 counterparts. With a fully programmable maximum tipping angle of up to 55° relative to horizontal, the short bin body reaches a tipping height of only 6 394 mm, which can be an advantage when operating with overhead structures (for example hoppers and crushers).

Flexible Allrounder “Thanks to its high capacity and superior productivity, the Bell B60E can perform a supporting or primary production role in many large opencast mining and quarrying operations around the world. However, we see other target applications for the B45E 4x4,” said Tristan du Pisanie, Bell Equipment’s ADT Marketing Manager. “These include small to medium-sized mining or quarrying operations with lower production tonnage as well as larger sites with difficult underfoot conditions. Finally, there could be operations requiring selective mining in very specific areas as a top-up on their main production volumes.” Despite a number of competitors having dropped 40t rigid dump trucks from their range, many customers in Europe are continuing to work with rigid trucks in the 40- ton class. For today’s quarry operations, with lower maximum speeds

www. scimag.news

and shorter hauls, Bell 4x4s offer a more economical drive concept compared to 4x2 rigid trucks that are designed for high top speeds over long distances. “The lower fuel consumption has a direct effect on the operational costs. Another very important factor in this regard is tyre wear,” said Tristan du Pisanie. “After several thousand operating hours, in direct comparison with 4x2 rigid trucks of the same size, operators reported a 65% lower wear on the rear twin tyres of the Bell B60E. Here again, the all-wheel drive and the consistent traction on each wheel ensured by the oscillation joint seems to be the difference.”

With regard to tyre wear on hard and abrasive haul roads, the two-axle ADT concept offers further advantages over conventional 6x6 trucks. The shorter rear chassis means 4x4s are more manoeuvrable than comparable three-axle trucks, whose middle and rear tyres tend to scuff around tight bends. This increased wear results in higher tyre and route maintenance costs as the scuffing tyres tend to churn up the road. The use of 4x4s in opencast mining requires less shunting at narrow loading points or at the primary crusher. In tunnelling or in underground mining the smaller turning cir-

cle is particularly significant: “Here, we have already successfully placed several 4x4 thirty-tonners. Specific customer requests for the more powerful B45E 4x4 prove that this derivative of our standard 6x6 machine can offer a real alternative for this very special market segment,” concludes Tristan du Pisanie. The Bell B45E 4x4 will enter the market in April 2019 following its launch at Bauma. Like all Bell 4x4s, the trucks will be produced in Bell Equipment’s main factory in Richards Bay, South Africa with the first machines planned for delivery early this summer.

Hatz

Hatz at bauma 2019: innovative, customeroriented, reliable and IoT-ready At bauma 2019 in Munich, from 8 to 14 April 2019, Hatz will focus on its customer-, application- and service-oriented strategy and present the world’s first electronically controlled fuel injection system and digital control unit for single-cylinder diesel engines in the industrial sector. In doing so, Hatz is the first to bridge the gap between today’s mechanically controlled engines and the requirements of modern, digitalised companies. With its E1 technology, Hatz enables light equipment, mobile lighting towers or generators, for example, to be propelled into the era of the Internet of Things (IoT). The preconditions for digital solutions in this equipment class are thus achieved for the first time. With the technological basis, the phase of solution adaptation to the needs of machine manufacturers and owners as well as the international service organisation begins at Bauma. Hatz engine manufacturing: tradition and ground-breaking engineering With the E1 technology, Hatz continues its tradition of innovative developments, which the engine specialist has demonstrated most impressively since the start of the 20th century. This includes, for example, the flat seat injector (a significant development in the history of diesel engines), the first diesel engine made of light metal, the progress achieved towards the world’s most powerful single-cylinder diesel, 90-percent sound insulation and the first industrial diesel following the downsizing principle.

6  MT > n. 2 - March 2019

“In all these developments, the quality and ease of handling of the engines are harmonised with the needs of the customer and the user. With our new E1 technology, Hatz offers the platform for the next logical step, for the first time integrating machines with small engines into the advancing world of digitisation”, says Bernhard RichterSchützeneder, Director Sales and Marketing at Hatz. In addition to the air-cooled B and Dseries with E1 technology up to 12 kilowatts, the flagship 3H50TICD and 4H50TICD models of the water-cooled H-series up to 55 kilowatts are also enabled for integration into IoT platforms.

Full range EU Stage V In addition to the electronically controlled B and D-series with E1 technology, the H-series models and the engines in the mechanically controlled B, D, G, L and M-series are compliant with EU Stage V and US EPA Tier 4 Fi-

nal. Consequently, Hatz offers a complete range of engines for use in countries with strict emissions regulations.

Volvo Penta

Volvo Penta Stage V solution champions productivity, uptime and TCO Volvo Penta has responded to the introduction of the world’s toughest emission regulation, Stage V for Europe, valid from January 2019 with a sophisticated new range of engines offering easy installation, operation and maintenance – all while meeting the stringent requirements. One major driver in the development of the new Volvo Penta Stage V range has been ensuring the engines and exhaust aftertreatment system work seamlessly together. Among other benefits, this maximizes passive regeneration during normal operation and, therefore, removes the need for stand-still regeneration, boosting customers’ uptime, productivity and profitability. “In our new Stage V range, the engine and exhaust aftertreatment system work in perfect synergy forming a powerful unit that meets the demands of many different applications, especially when conditions are challenging,” says Giorgio Paris, head of the industrial business segment at Volvo Penta. In the D5 and D8 engines specifically, Volvo Penta has decreased cooling requirements by around 20%, meaning the size of the radiator can be reduced or power increased depending on customer need. At the same time, Volvo Penta has succeeded in reducing fuel consumption (vs Stage IV) across the entire range to the benefit of end users’ bottom line and the environment. “Field-testing of our new Stage V engines has proven extremely promising, boasting fuel consumption reductions of up to 5%,” Paris says. “This means Volvo Penta can reduce CO2 footprint by around two fuel trucks per day – and considering the average life of our engines is 10,000-12,000 hours or more,

the savings in fuel consumption alone will pay for the engine over its lifespan.” Yet another positive contribution to customers’ operations is the oil change service interval, which has been lengthened from 500 hours to 1,000 hours. At bauma 2019, taking place at the Messe München, Germany, between April 8-14, 2019, Volvo Penta will be showcasing its full range, including the

new Volvo Penta Stage V D5, D8, D11, D13 and D16 engines that have been optimized for customer operation. These engines offer power from 105 to 585 kW (143-796 hp). Demonstrating the breadth of the Volvo Group, Volvo Penta will be joined by sister companies Volvo CE, Volvo Trucks and Volvo Financial Solutions.

Focus on bauma > Cangini Benne

At bauma to tell our story Cangini Benne at bauma 2019 (8-14 April) has a clear goal: to show the high level of its products Miriam Spada

“T

he bauma Munich is the most important appointment in the world in our field. It comes every three years… we must be ready”. With these few words, the President of Cangini company has submitted the top event of this year for the world market to his staff… Each department is involved and has received this only input, but it has certainly been clear: to do one’s best to take the Italian company to the April appointment, ready to show the kind of level it has been able to reach over these years.

What are the strengths of this company? A management that always looks to the

future, but keeps feet firmly planted on the ground. The great skill to read the market needs and its changes. The relentless innovative energy and the great attention to utilizers’ safety in the different work environments. The existing production surface of 10.000 m² that allows to place 50,000 products/year on the market, also thanks to a network of fidelized suppliers.

And what about the strengths of its products? The widest range that has no equal in Italy or abroad: attachments, buckets and quick couplers are the three macro-areas that have undergone an enormous design work throughout

CANGINI BENNE SRL

HALL C5.149 @ bauma these last years that has granted 20 patents mainly on safety themes. A high quality that makes Cangini a reliable partner for the main manufacturers of earth-moving machines. “Products with a soul”: “The Cangini factory has a story that has characterized and guided its growth” - tells Giorgio Cangini, President of the Romagna’s company. “Anyway, we need to catch the signs of a market that does not settle for whichever product. When they come out of the plant, our tools have not only been designed, deeply analysed and tested, but they have also a soul, the one that we breathe into them, shaped upon the market requirements and consequently dynamic, in constant development. Well, if we provide our products with a soul, with our highest attention and care, they will certainly be a success.”

Retracing the story First of all, this year the company celebrates its 30th anniversary, from its birth in 1989 as a specialized metalworking workshop in Pagno, a small and ancient village in the hearth of the Romagna’s Apennines, to the industrial reality of today. In the years of the launch of the first mini-excavators, the Cangini brothers specialized their activity in the design and production of buckets. This is the winning choice paving the way for new ideas and new markets. In a few years, the production widens embracing the first attachment tools and quick couplers. The year 2009 is marked by the serious world economic crisis that hit Italy hard: the

2019 Canginis succeed in safeguarding their company thanks to the fact that they have aimed at extending their market beyond the national boundaries. Then, due to the power of the internal research work and to the steps forward in innovation, the product catalogue enriches to cover multiple spheres of application and also the production area grows consequently, in the site that in the meanwhile has settled in Sarsina – the choice is however to remain in the rich territory of origin. In 2017, most of a new surface of about 3,000 m² is entirely devoted to the hydraulic attachments and a new boost is given to the effectiveness of the factory system by adopting the principles of Industry 4.0. The year 2018 sees a further enlargement of the plant area – still under way - and a relevant increase of the turnover rewarding the work side by side with the customers: “Our customer knows that he can count on us, on our quality and reliability. Wherever he is, the customer is part of the “Cangini World.” And the CANGINI WORLD will be indeed celebrated in April at Bauma.

What about the plans for the future? There is no future without a past: Cangini plans to build it basing on the values that have made its development possible till now. Innovation and attention to users’ requirements will always be the core of the everyday work.

The VMS Multiscreening bucket Safety is another, equally important, issue and the company’s engagement in this direction will be constant. As per the markets, Italy and Europe are today the reference Cangini markets. Together with the strengthening of the firm’s European share, several opportunities are currently offered by the overseas markets and Cangini is preparing to seize this chance carefully planning the necessary steps.

Which Cangini products we will see at bauma? Cangini range is very wide. “We will show all our ranges, just due to the fact that one of our assets is exactly the broad scale of our catalogue. We will focus on quick couplers, on the existing attachments that are giving us great satisfactions and on those newly designed, that will be the subject of special sales campaigns devoted to the most important event of the year

The new X-plane laser dozer blade

for our sector”, confirms the Sales Manager Maurizio Beleffi. At bauma all the quick couplers will be exhibited – some of which are covered by international patents. “Thanks to the comprehensiveness of their ranges, the company is able to meet the most diversified needs, as none of the other competitors can do”, he continues. As far as the attachments are concerned, here are just some insights by the Sales Manager: “We will surely exhibit our newest tools for the green and road maintenance and the forestry works. As per the earth moving and the recycling operations, on show all the range with its core product, the Multiscreening bucket with rotary double drum, its patented innovative screening system. Finally, spotlight on the newly born X-plane laser dozer blade, completely rethought to increase efficiency and precision, with new design and new laser equipment. In conclusion, the company will celebrate its 30th anniversary as it likes to do: showing the international public what its flagship is, the research.◀

U

.Emme Srl, which considers safety in the handling of its machines a top priority, has introduced several technical innovations to its Mulchers, which, besides full compliance with the European regulation, also guarantee performance in line with the business standards. Throughout 2018, the company based in Romagna fine-tuned a technical revise of its sturdy and powerful TT Mulching Heads, focusing on 3 specific conceptual cornerstones: harmony of shapes, versatility and safety.

A rounded smooth shape Power and strength are the two features that have always set the TT Mulchers by U. Emme apart, machines designed specifically to be combined with the sturdy arms of industrial host machines such as excavators and backhoe loaders. In their 2019 version, the shell was smoothened to make the structure even more compact and cleaner. It is now rounded, no longer pointy, to allow the equipment to slide better among the branches of shrubs and climbing plants, the latter are a true nightmare for workers in the industry. The tests carried out throughout 2018 have shown that this particular and certainly unusual rounded shape of the shell supports what U.Emme calls “vortex effect” in the most effec-

tive way possible, that is the dynamics for which the cut plant material is wrapped in a turbine inside the shell and then ground several times by the knife or hammer cutting system. The result is a very fine mulched product which, besides the convenience of not having to be collected, left on the soil allows to obtain a certain agronomic benefit, because the grass and the branches so finely mulched supply the soil with a significant quantity of organic material and nutritional elements. The design of the sides has been updated by further widening the profiles, to increase the opening of the mouth and consequently the possibility of the mulched plant material to escape, optimising discharge of the treated material. In addition, compared to the old TT series, the parts of the sides that end in the sliding saddle have been further widened. This solution has been adopted since the beginning due to the absence of a rear roller, a useless device considering that every TT Mulcher is equipped with bi-directional hydraulic motors

that can therefore rotate clockwise and anti-clockwise. This allows the operator to work in both forward gear and reverse gear, so to maintain always the most correct direction of rotation in cutting effectively the vegetables.

Easy and versatile Originally designed to be easy to use and simple to manage (characteristics supported by a standard equipping of a special shock-resistant and anti-cavitation valve that avoids the need to connect the third hydraulic way in draining excess oil), the new TT Mulching Heads are equipped with a new type of shaft. It has been designed specifically to increase the versatility of the equipment that, depending on the operating necessity, is now able to host the triple knives kit or the hammers on the same supports. Furthermore, with a new layout of the knife/hammer supports, vibrations and power absorption have been reduced and the quality of the cut improved in all working conditions.

On the market since 2014, the TT Mulchers by U.Emme have always fully complied with the European Regulation EN ISO 42541-12 which, to make the use of this widespread tool even safer and therefore reduce accidents at work, explicitly prohibits the manufacturing of machines with a bonnet that can be opened, to avoid the use of the machine with open bonnet during field work. The range of TT Mulching Heads by U.Emme is composed of 5 models differing in working width (from 640mm to 1900mm) and is finalised to equip Excavators starting from 1 ton and Backhoe loaders starting from 3 tons. Each model guarantees a high level of operating safety and unique performance in cutting and defibrating herbaceous and wood materials. They also offer the possibility to work on young trees that, depending on the quality of the wood, can have maximum circumference diameters that range from 100 to 150 mm in width.â—€
