The Keestrack B4 jaw crusher as primary crusher feeds a H4e cone crusher producing four highly defined quality end products

worldwide R&D and manufacturing network. Continuous investment in all group’s production facilities – like anti-corrosive zinc-phosphate Nano powder painting technology – ensure the highest quality standards on a global level.

Vision in hybrid and plug-in technology Keestrack provides a comprehensive product range of highly mobile tracked crushing and screening solutions with transport weights from 14 to 70 tonnes, with today 24 models in seven product lines. Leading in innovation, Keestrack promotes diesel-electric and full-electric drive options for all applications. Today 80% of the company’s product range is optionally available as diesel-electric hybrids and 75% as plug-in hybrid. According to Keestrack, these alternative drives result in energy cost savings up to 80% and noise emissions down to 30% at plug-in mode with the whole plant supplied through mains. In 2012, the Chinese factory produced

the first hybrid, diesel/electric classifier, the Keestrack C6e, especially for the Chinese market.

Innovative experience With a total of four exhibits at their bauma China stand (A18), Keestrack will show the latest technologies in their mobile crushing and screening equipment. Local and international sales and application experts will provide extensive information for all relevant sectors. The planned display presents the following machines: ▶ Jaw crusher Keestrack B4 The B4 jaw crusher ensures less wear and better crushing capacities due to its double-deck vibrating pre- screen (2300x1000 mm). The proven jaw crusher 1100x700 mm (max. feed size 600 mm) reaches an hourly output up to 400 tonnes and provides a hydraulic automatic gap adjustment to safely prevent clogging and automatically adjust the jaw plates to compensate wear. For optimized maintenance, the

B4 has a hydraulic sliding frame for service access under the feeder and scalping unit. Optionally, the plant can be equipped with a single-deck post screening unit. The track-mounted jaw crusher is also available as hybrid plug-in B4e version with drop off power-supply module. The hybrid version of the successful 50-tonnes model B4 enables plugin operations from the mains and is an economical alternative for semi-stationary deployment at recycling companies, large construction sites or quarries. ▶ Cone crusher Keestrack H4e The fully hybrid cone crusher H4e highlights Keestrack’s philosophy of combining the best flexible mobility with high productivity. Unique on the market with its optional 3-deck hanging screen, the fully equipped plant weights only 46 tonnes (without options: 35 t), offering easy one-piece road transport and fast relocation on site.

The H4e has a detachable drop-off unit and can be placed remotely during operation, this reduces dust and vibration on the drive unit and facilitates easy maintenance

For flexible autonomous operation, the Keestrack H4e is equipped with an on-board diesel engine. The engine drives an alternator, providing power to the electric motor of the crusher drive and to the separate E-motor/pump unit for all hydraulic drives on the plant (tracks/ fans/screens/hydraulic cylinders). Without starting the diesel, this setup enables the plant to operate fully “plug-in” from mains or external gen set, resulting in energy cost savings up to 70% compared to conventional diesel-hydraulic plants. The H4e has a detachable drop-off unit and can be placed remotely during operation, this reduces dust and vibration on the drive unit and facilitates easy maintenance. The fully automated unit produces up to 250 tph at maximum feed

sizes of 185 mm. The wide variety of concaves allows a high flexibility in secondary or tertiary production of highly defined end fractions. To optimize production the plant can be optionally equipped with a pre-screen with fines chute and with a highly efficient three-deck secondary screen module with recycling conveyor for closed-circuit processing. The large measurements of the hanging screen (effective area: 3 x 5.4 m²) and large stockpiling capacities of the conveyors prevent bottle-necks in producing up to four highly defined quality end products. ▶ Impact crusher Keestrack R6 The fully equipped tracked mobile impact crusher R6 with independent dual-deck pre-screen (3100x1250 mm), double-deck post-screen module

(4500 x 1500 mm) and recirculation of the oversized fraction, weights just over 61 tonnes. With its efficient 1300-series crusher (inlet size: 1300 x 970 mm, rotor weight: 6,100 kg) it has a capacity up to 500 tonnes/ hour. The track mobile impactor can be transported as one-piece without disassembling the after-screen module. This improves mobility, shortens downtime and guarantees profitability. The R6 impactor provides a very high reduction ratio with excellent product shape. Just like all other Keestrack diesel/hydraulic driven equipment the R6 is using a load sensing hydraulic system which reduces the fuel usage by 25%, compared to traditional diesel/hydraulic equipment. With an extensive option list the crusher can be configured to spe-

cific needs and applications. The Keestrack R6 is also available in a hybrid R6e version with full-electric rotor drive or direct “rotor-by-diesel” drive configuration. ▶ Scalper Keestrack K6 The K6 scalper is the most mature scalper on the market, introduced in 1996 as the first direct feed scalper. An innovation by Keestrack turned into today’s industries standard. With its standard heavy-duty plate apron feeder and double deck screen of 4500x1800 mm it has a capacity up to 600 tonnes/hour. The low emission engine and load sensing hydraulic system ensure the lowest fuel consumption in the industry. The Keestrack K6 is also available as energy saving hybrid plug-in electric drive.

New vs. auctioned equipment: counting the cost When purchasing auctioned equipment, consider the total cost of ownership. A new value-brand machine may save money over the long haul John Melegatti

8  MT > n. 7 - October 2018

www. scimag.news

I

t’s an age-old question when considering equipment purchases: a new machine or an auctioned piece of equipment? Considering the auction market for construction equipment in North America is roughly the same size as the market for new machines, it is a dilemma that nearly all equipment owners are facing. Traditionally, the choice between new and auctioned equipment often involved comparisons of similar equipment. In those cases, the decision

might come down to the application the machine is needed for, factors such as residual value, or one might simply be swayed by a good deal. However, with the addition of so-called “value brand” equipment to the North American market, there are far more options and details to consider when choosing between new and auctioned machines. These value brands are solid, well-made pieces of equipment, but lack the features of premium brands, which helps keep the price low.

MT > n. 7 - October 2018  9

Business > SDLG

Value brands have gained traction with customers with certain needs, such as for seasonal and low-hour applications, work that involves corrosive materials that degrade equipment, or projects that simply don’t require premium features to complete. For many customers, value brands represent a third option that should be taken into consideration, complete with their own cost, benefit and applications analysis.

Total cost of ownership For many equipment buyers, the most important consideration when making purchasing decisions is the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) for each machine. This is the expected cost of buying and maintaining a machine over the course of its entire lifespan, or at least until that machine is ready to be resold again.

10  MT > n. 7 - October 2018

Several factors influence TCO. A machine’s sticker price, of course, is the first cost to be analyzed, but it does not reflect the inherent cost of purchasing and maintaining an auctioned machine. Repair and maintenance costs can run as high as 75% of the machine’s purchase price, and typically see a rapid increase in years four, five and six of ownership, which is when most auctioned machines are purchased. With a new value brand machine, however, repair and maintenance needs are much lower. For example, the price of a new SDLG LG959 wheel loader is nearly the same as one would pay for a four-year-old auction-bought loader with approximately 6,000 hours of work on it. On average, the auctioned loader will rack

up approximately $20,000 to $25,000 in repairs, while the SDLG will only cost around $5,250 — a difference of $15,000 to 20,000. By its very nature, a new value machine will need less high-cost repairs and less maintenance, which translates to less downtime. In addition, new machines have warranties, so work needed in its first year of ownership will likely be covered, plus extended warranty plans are available.

Leveraging dealer relationships With these purchasing decisions, one must also consider their relationship with their preferred equipment dealer, and how that factors into repair and maintenance scenarios. With auction purchases of machines there is risk, as one doesn’t know the history of the

www. scimag.news

vehicle, and must find a dealer to service and provide and parts, typically at a higher cost. When buying a new value machine, one is purchasing from a dealer they know and may have worked with for years. These ongoing relationships are

good for both the dealer and the customer. They will fully back the equipment’s warranty needs, and often provide more timely service at a better price. Of course, application needs are the ultimate dictator when decid-

Looking to the future with Hitachi The first Hitachi ICT hydraulic excavator with machine control in Europe, the ZX210X-6, will have a huge impact on construction and civil engineering projects – increasing efficiency considerably (by an estimated 30-50%), enhancing safety and making life easier for operators John Melegatti

12  MT > n. 7 - October 2018

www. scimag.news

I

ncorporating the latest technological advancements from Hitachi Construction Machinery, the ZX210X-6 excavator is one of the most precise models on the market. The semi-automatic operation of the front of the machine ensures consistently high levels of accuracy. As a result, the amount of repetitive work on site is decreased and less time is needed to complete construction projects – leading to reduced running costs

and fewer emissions. The ZX210X-6’s highly accurate performance also contributes to enhanced safety on the job site. Designed for easy operation with user-friendly features, it supports the skills of operators.

Exceptional efficiency One of the features that enables the ZX210X-6 to work quicker than conventional models is the bucket angle retention. Slope finishing can be car-

ried out with fewer movements, for example, as the angle of the bucket is maintained throughout. This also allows the operator to focus on the operation of the boom and arm. Another feature is the overcut protection function, which enables operators to work quickly and easily, without worrying about over digging. The edge of the bucket is controlled by the ZX210X-6, so that it follows the target surface.

MT > n. 7 - October 2018  13

Technology > Hitachi

Unrivalled accuracy The responsive sensors mounted on the body, boom, arm and bucket of the ZX210X-6 are among the fastest available. These enable accurate measurement of the excavator’s incline, and the angle of the front of the machine. They work in perfect harmony with the unique hydraulic control unit. When combined with the renowned hydraulics of Hitachi excavators, this gives the ZX210X-6 a competitive edge in the market.

14  MT > n. 7 - October 2018

The accurate position of the ZX210X-6 can be determined with the 3D system. 3D civil engineering design data can be downloaded by the machine via the internet or a USB device, and its position and altitude are then ascertained by satellite positioning and the sensors. Alternatively, the 2D system uses coordinates, calculated from design drawings, and data entered manually by the operator into the monitor. It uses the machine as a reference point, taking information from the sensors. Some stak-

ing is required for measuring on site when using the 2D system, whereas this is significantly reduced using 3D.

User-friendly operation The easy-to-read 10-inch touchscreen monitor in the cab of the ZX210X-6 highlights its user-friendly appeal. Developed in cooperation with one of the global leaders of machine guidance devices, Trimble, it is factory-fitted by Hitachi Construction Machinery and operates like a smartphone.

www. scimag.news

The operator can rotate the view of the machine 360°, and also zoom in and out of the view to monitor progress in more detail. The view can be customised according the operator’s preference, and it has a split-screen option to show two or three views simultaneously. The introduction of the ZX210X-6 machine to the European market is a significant milestone for Hitachi Construction Machinery, in the wider context of its development of ICT construction solutions and the increasing importance of BIM (building information modelling) in the construction industry. Hitachi Construction Machinery (Europe) NV Product Manager Wil-

bert Blom says: “The ZX210X-6 excavator plays a pivotal role in Hitachi’s ICT construction solutions, which connect people, information, processes and technology to create safe and productive working environments. More accurate than its competitors, it is the most technologically advanced Hitachi excavator to date.”
