make transportation safer than ever before, both for drivers and other road users. Intelligent concepts for securing the load also make the task of the driver much easier.

be experienced at the IAA Commercial Vehicles, MEILLER proves once again that the “one-stop shop” concept also pays off in terms of safety and efficiency functions.

In addition, MEILLER also provides a further practical feature for pal-lets, as the three-way tipper and the Bibenne (designed specifically for the French market) combine an interior width of 2.42 m with robust steel side walls. This makes both tippers perfect transportation media for pallets and transport companies are even more flexible in the use of their vehicles. MEILLER’s proven Bordmatic is also optionally available for this equipment. Examples of the safety innovations presented by MEILLER in Hanover include new side wall lashing lugs with a lashing force of 2 tons at each lashing point. These are particularly suitable for high loads that extend beyond the side wall. The side wall lashing lugs ideally complement the proven floor-retractable lashing lugs which can be easily concealed if they are not required. Moreover, plug-in floor lashing lugs in the cor-ners provide a particularly high lashing force of up to 8 tons.

This philosophy has been pursued by the family enterprise since its foundation. MEILLER revolutionised the transportation sector with its most important invention, the hydraulic tipper. Having built on this success, MEILLER has achieved a vast number of technical innovations up until today through its holistic approach. One central cornerstone of product development at MEILLER has been and remains today the issue of safety.

Kalmar

Kalmar and Hhla Container Terminal Burchardkai strengthen partnership with order for nextgeneration electric and hybrid straddle carriers Kalmar, part of Cargotec, has concluded a deal with Hamburger Hafen und Logistik AG (HHLA), the leading European port and transport logistics group, to supply a total of 10 new straddle carriers. This brings the total number of Kalmar straddle carriers ordered by HHLA in the last two years to 30, further demonstrating the strong relationship with Kalmar and the company’s commitment to Kalmar equipment. The order was booked in Cargotec’s 2018 third quarter order intake, with delivery scheduled to take place in Q1 2019. Established in 1968, HHLA Container Terminal Burchardkai (CTB) is the largest facility for container handling in the Port of Hamburg. The terminal has an annual capacity of more than 3 million TEU. CTB was the first terminal to introduce the straddle carrier concept as well as a unique automatic stacking crane (ASC) concept featuring three cranes per block. The new units will be used to transport containers from the port’s ship-to-shore cranes to the ASCs. The new order from HHLA comprises nine Kalmar straddle carriers with diesel-electric powertrains and one Kalmar hybrid straddle carrier, which features a maintenance-free regenerative energy system. All ten next-generation machines will feature new robust mobile drives, a completely redesigned electrical system for the upper frame and spreader, a more spacious electric cabinet layout and LED working lights as standard. The complete electrical and technical redesign brings a huge variety of benefits for terminals using

straddle carriers for container handling, with increased reliability and productivity being the most significant. Jens Hansen, Executive Board of HHLA: “Our partnership with Kalmar goes from strength to strength, and these new machines will be vital in terms of helping us to continue to reduce operating costs

and cut noise and emissions. We particularly appreciate the long-term reliability and proven performance of Kalmar equipment, as well as the local support services that help keep it working at its very best, so naturally we turned to Kalmar when it came to this latest expansion of our horizontal transport fleet.”

The STS cranes are the largest in Scandinavia. With a safe working load of 65 t, an outreach of 65 m, a backreach of 25 m and a span of

30.48 m. The high-tech cranes are designed with a suite of advanced features and systems for increasing safety and productivity. These include load collision prevention, ship profiling, straddle carrier positioning systems, electronically controlled safe zones and minimal acceleration times on all drives. The high-tech rail mounted gantry cranes have been designed to a very advanced specification and have a

safe working load of 50 tonnes under spreader, a span of 30.6 m and an outreach on both sides of 14.5 m. Lift height over rail is 16.5 giving a stacking height of one over four. The cranes will handle multiple rail tracks under the span with container stacking and delivery to the horizontal transport vehicles taking place under the cantilevers. Speaking about the project, Sales and marketing manager of Liebherr Container Cranes, Gerry Bunyan said “Liebherr Container Cranes and APM Terminals have worked together to deliver a number of different projects. The cranes in Gothenburg and the automated Liebherr STS in Maasvlakte II have laid the groundwork to cement a partnership that continues today with a further project in Guatemala. Linde Material Handling

Full range of lithium-ion powered trucks It all started with pallet trucks four years ago, and since 2017, the optional equipment variant of a lithium-ion battery has been available for almost all electrically powered Linde series with a load capacity of up to five tons. Now Linde Material Handling has added further models to fill the last gaps in its product range, including electric counterbalance trucks that can lift loads of up to eight tons. “Only very few manufacturers offer electric forklifts in this load category,” emphasizes Björn Walter, Product Manager Counterbalanced Trucks at Linde Material Handling. “We are therefore proud to provide a complete solution consisting of a lithium-ion battery plus a charger for these heavy-duty vehicles too.” All models in this series can be equipped with a powerful 90-volt lithium-ion battery with almost 120 kWh capacity. Chargers with 9 kW, 17 kW and 30 kW are available – depending on how quickly the (intermediate) charging of the battery has to take place during operation. Thanks to the lithium-ion battery, the maintenance-free three-phase drive motors accelerate the truck to 20 km/h travel speed with or without load – a significant advantage compared to the corresponding lead-acid models. This goes hand in hand with a corresponding performance gain.

Resistant to a wide range of temperatures Added to this is the great robustness of heavy-duty trucks with lithium-ion battery – not least with regard to prevailing ambient temperatures. The 90-volt units operate both in frosty conditions and in industrial environments with high thermal stress. In contrast to their lead-acid counterparts, lithium-ion batteries do not heat up. This means that the other-

wise required breaks for cooling the battery, which sometimes last for hours, are no more. Another advantage of lithium-ion technology is particularly evident in heavy-duty trucks with six to eight tons load capacity: No battery change is required. “A lead-acid battery of this size weighs about three tons and must be replaced with the help of a forklift, for example,” says Product Manager Björn Walter.

In addition, lithium-ion trucks contribute to improved sustainability. This is because they generate lower levels of CO2 than forklifts with lead-acid batteries and diesel drives. How much can be calculated precisely for each individual application using the Li-ION calculator from Linde MH. The lithium-ion battery also performs better with regard to other emissions: No harmful battery gases requiring extraction are produced during the charging process.

Machines > PALFINGER Crawler Crane PCC

P

CC – these three letters stand for a genuine pioneering product. The PALFINGER Crawler Crane – the first PALFINGER crane mounted on a crawler chassis – offered as a holistic concept. PALFINGER offers its customers a powerful and flexible lifting solution for situations where a lorry would normally have to suffice. “On difficult terrain – for example, when constructing power lines or cable lifts – helicopter transport is normally the only alternative to a truck-mounted crane,” says Michael Hagenauer, Head of Product Division Crawler Cranes, citing one of the typical areas where the new model series is used. “With the PCC, such jobs can be completed safely, efficiently and inexpensively.”

World première for an all-rounder PALFINGER presents its first crawler crane A specialist in the most challenging of jobs: at the IAA Commercial Vehicles in September in Hanover, the PALFINGER Crawler Crane PCC will celebrate its world première. The all-rounder on a crawler chassis is initially available in three variants of around 50 to 115 tonne-metres Miriam Spada

12  RIS > n. 4 July-September 2018

www. scimag.news

Maximum flexibility with maximum power The crawler crane achieves its full potential not only on difficult terrain and with gradients of up to 60%. Being around 40 centimetres narrower than a conventional truck, it offers new lifting potential even in confined areas where one centimetre extra can make all the difference. Thanks to the knuckle boom that can be angled upwards, the high lifting power and compact dimensions, the PALFINGER Crawler Crane PCC is also the perfect system for use in urban areas as well as in the industrial and indoor sector. The crawler allows the crane to be quickly repositioned on construction sites as and when necessary. Another advantage is that the crawler and crane can be controlled, transported and operated separately, which is particularly useful in situations where weight restrictions apply. The crane module can also propel itself on its own stabilisers without the crawler – a process also known as “shifting”, explains Hagenauer. If necessary, the PCC can also be mounted onto the transport truck. This means greater utilisation and maximum flexibility with maximum power for the user.

Everything from a single source The first crane manufacturer to offer the crane and crawler from a sin-

gle source, PALFINGER creates clear added value for the customer. The three modules (crawler, crane and counterweight) can be individually combined and operated optimally for a diverse array of tasks. The modules are perfectly matched, while the interfaces and functions have been thought through right down to the very last detail. For servicing, maintenance and training, one contact person has been appointed for the entire device. Initial training by factory personnel when the device is handed over and, if desired, assistance with the initial jobs, round off the service package. This, too, saves time and money.

Compact design The PALFINGER Crawler Crane PCC offers impressively compact dimensions: all it needs is a clearance width of 2 to 2.2 metres and – minus the crawler – a passenger height of 2.2 to 2.5 metres. Shifting (i.e. moving the crane unit using only the stabiliser outriggers) allows the system to be moved through extremely low and confined spaces and loaded into a container without the crawler.

All-terrain mobility

gradients of 8° to 20° can be levelled out thanks to the long and particularly robust support feet. This ensures ultrahigh lifting capacities and universal usability, even on difficult terrain.

High lifting capacity and reach The PALFINGER Crawler Crane PCC is available in three variants: the PCC 57.002 has a maximum reach of 29.5 metres, a maximum lifting height of 32 metres and a maximum lifting capacity of 17,900 kilograms. The slightly more powerful model, the PCC 71.002, has a reach of 31.6 metres, a maximum lifting height of 34 metres and a maximum lifting capacity of 19,100 kilograms. The most powerful model is the PCC 115.002, which has a reach of 33.3 metres, a maximum lifting height of 35.8 metres and a lifting capacity of up to 30,000 kilograms. Numerous pieces of additional equipment such as workman baskets, vacuum lifters, pipe manipulators and grippers are available for all models. Models PCC 71.002 and PCC 115.002 are available immediately; model PCC 57.002 will become available in spring 2019.◀

The crawler chassis is perfect for offroad use, has high ground clearance and can climb gradients of up to 60%. When the crane is used off-road, depending on the support width, slope

eamwork in our home town – in June two Liebherr mobile cranes replaced a 20 year old debarking drum at the Sappi paper factory in Ehingen. This is also the location of the Liebherr manufacturing plant for mobile and crawler cranes. An LTM 1350-6.1 from Rieger & Moser and an LTM 1400-7.1

from Fricke-Schmidbauer worked together to carefully hoist the 90 tonnes load. The roof of the factory building had been removed to replace the drums. The two cranes showed their sensitive side both when removing and inserting the heavy load. Firstly, the cranes had to lift the load evenly, and sec-

ondly, the long drum had to be guided through the gap between the two cranes. The new debarking drum is 32 metres in length with a diameter of 5 metres. Made up of a number of half-shells, it had been welded together over a period of several weeks on the Sappi factory site. Whole trunks of beech and spruce are rubbed against each other in the giant drum, causing the bark to fall off. Rieger & Moser and Fricke-Schmidbauer are part of the Schmidbauer Group with a workforce of around 600. The whole group now has more than 20 outlets throughout Germany and runs 200 mobile cranes and 150 heavy haulage transporters.◀
