Faymonville

More versatility for Orllati With more than 800 employees, the Orllati Group is one of the major construction companies in French-speaking Switzerland, especially in the cantons of Vaud and Geneva. The company is therefore active in a sector where Faymonville is recognised as the leading specialist in the delivery of adapted transport solutions. The Orllati Group has thus integrated a 4-axle MultiMAX semi-trailer with hydraulic widening, a pair of wheel recesses between the 1st and 2nd axles and hydraulic ramps into its vehicle fleet. “Thanks to these ramps, we no longer have to unhitch the semi-trailer to load it. It’s multi-functional and can transport a variety of machines such as wheeled loaders, articulated dumpers or crawler excavators,” says Gjevgjet Orllati, Director Orllati Logistics. In the folded state, the double ramp protrudes less than 300 mm! Because of this, according to European Regulation 1230/2012, it does not form part of the total length of the unit. It extends the loading platform without exceeding the legal limit of 16,500 mm set by the EU. “This MultiMAX semi-trailer with hydraulic widening is ideal for the construction industry,” explains Gjevgjet Orllati a particularly popular option. Optimum safety, simple operation, maximum comfort and a considerable time saving when loading and unloading – these are the convincing benefits that highlight the hydraulic widening system. The platform can be enlarged hydraulically from 2,540 mm to 3,200 mm. The driver extends the platform simply by pressing a button on his remote control. In continuous operation, the procedure allows the platform to be adapted accurately to the width of the machine to be loaded. It is the minimal handling especially that appeals to users: simplicity, speed and safe operations. A trough is the rear

chamfer as well as the loading platform help accommodate the arm of an excavator. The loading platform is 8,600 mm long and can be extended by 2,900 mm. “Faymonville vehicles are of impressive quality and the service offered is efficient and customer-orientated. These are beautiful trailers,” says Gjevgjet Orllati. Full metallisation provides the best anti-corrosion protection available on the market and allows the trailer to perform its various tasks for as long as possible. At Faymonville, the Orllati Group has found the ideal tool to complete its fleet of state-of-the-art machines. The MultiMAX meets these requirements perfectly and allows to respond optimally to the requirements of its customers.

Renault Trucks

Renault Trucks consolidates its optitrack offer Renault Trucks is adding new features to its Optitrack system, designed to increase the pulling power of vehicles and maintain high performance whatever the terrain. The constructor is also providing an Optitrack+ version, incorporating new hydraulic motors for customers working in extreme conditions Optitrack was developed by Renault Trucks in partnership with Poclain Hydraulics in 2009 and is available on the C2.5 range of vehicles, providing additional temporary pulling power thanks to two hydraulic motors fitted in the front wheel hubs. This system offers the possibility of benefiting from temporary all-wheel drive on demand, overcoming the constraints of a “conventional” all-wheel drive vehicle, particularly in terms of fuel consumption, loading height, maintenance costs and additional weight. Renault Trucks is now consolidating its Optitrack system by incorporating new features.

Outstanding pulling power The hydraulic pressure of the system has been stepped up from 420 to 450 bars, leading to a 7% increase in the maximum wheel torque. This new feature boosts pulling power, enabling

drivers to cope with the difficulties inherent in handling vehicles with high payloads or on steep terrain. In order to ensure maximum start-up power in the most demanding situations as well as total vehicle control, Renault Trucks has added a “boost” function. When activated by the driver, this increases front wheel tyre pressure to the maximum (450 bars) in order to achieve maximum startup torque.

Increased operating comfort and manœuvrability The Optitrack system disconnects when vehicle speed reaches 50km/h (compared to 40km/h on previous versions) and automatically re-engages at 20km/h, no longer requiring driver intervention.

Finally, a self-calibration device permanently adjusts the settings of the Optitrack system, ensuring life-long vehicle performance, and an additional reverse gear has been added (R2) for optimal manoeuvrability on all types of terrain.

Agility in all terrain with Optitrack+ Trucks operating in extreme conditions can now benefit from the features of the enhanced Optitrack+ version. Optitrack+ features new hydraulic motors that increase front wheel torque by 30 %. This enhanced version offers seamless pulling power for coping with high payloads, steep slopes and soft soil. Optitrack+ is particularly recommended for earthmoving or the transport of aggregate in difficult conditions.

MAMMOET

MAMMOET replaces 400-ton coke drums at Germany’s largest refinery Mammoet has safely and successfully replaced two coke drums at the Upper Rhine Mineral Oil Refinery (MiRO) in Karlsruhe, Germany This meant that the tight schedule of the shutdown could be met. ”The planning of the heavy lifts was performed in close cooperation with our client MiRO and took a total period of about two years. The result was a concept that was precisely tailored to the needs of the refinery, based on the capacity of the ring crane,” says Gernot Öder, project manager at Mammoet Germany.

In the coker plant, heavy residues from crude oil distillation are converted into market-compliant gas and gasoline components, gas oils and coke. The new coke drums will further contribute to the reliable supply of mineral oil products. Mammoet Germany executed the project with one of the world’s largest cranes, the PT-50 ring crane as well as various telescopic cranes and special transporters. The experts in engineered heavy lifting and transport successfully carried out all heavy lifts required to re-

place the two previous coke drums with two new coke drums, which measure 35 meters in length and weigh approximately 400 tons. The old coke drums were transported on 28 axle lines of SPMT. In the planning phase, various concepts were tested to ensure effective and timely implementation within the very limited space available on site and within the tight schedule of the entire shutdown. With a ring diameter of 30 meters, the PT-50 was the only crane that could work within the available space without disrupting normal plant operation. At the same time, all lifting processes were carried out effectively at high speed within a radius of approximately 120 meters (360 degrees) and lifting heights of up to 140 meters. Another advantage was that the crane could be lowered at very high wind speeds.

Marin Pavicic Best DAF Technician In Europe The ‘DAF European Technician of the Year 2018’ award has been won by Marin Pavicic (33), who works at the Walter Aichwalder dealership in Klagenfurt, Austria. The European final, which consisted of various assignments and tests, took place at DAF Trucks in Eindhoven. The trophy was presented by Johan Drenth, After Sales Director of DAF Trucks N.V. During the European final, the eighteen finalists demonstrated their skills in several theoretical and practical cases in which they had to solve complex malfunctions on engine and vehicle systems. “DAF organizes the ‘European Technician of the Year’ competition’ to underline the importance of professional workshop technicians,” says Johan Drenth. “It is primarily a recognition of their profession. Modern trucks are high-tech vehicles and a broad and deep technical knowledge is required to be able to work on them. In addition, the technician is the business card in the workshop of the DAF dealer and he or she plays an important role when it comes to customer satisfaction. It’s all about delivering service and quality down to the smallest detail.”

DAF European Technician of the Year DAF dealers throughout Europe may enter their technicians for the ‘DAF European Technician of the Year’ competition. The competition consists of two parts. In the first year, entrants compete for the national title in each country. The following

year, the winners from each country compete against each other during the European final.

“Every day is a challenge” Marin Pavicic has been working for the Walter Aichwalder dealership in Klagenfurt for 15 years. He started as an apprentice and worked his way up to his present position of workshop

manager. Marin was completely surprised by his victory. “It’s an indescribable feeling”, he says. “The assignments and tests were very complicated, so I was quite a bit tense. I am very proud that I won the award!” What in his view characterizes a good technician? “You have to challenge yourself every day”, he says. “That way, you continue to learn, which makes you a better professional.”

ight on time for the largest construction machinery trade show in France, Intermat (23-28 April 2018), RUTHMANN presented its newest truck-mounted working platform: the SKY performance STEIGER ® T 900 HF. Equipped with the patented DRS (Dynamic Reach System) and with its revolutionary Dual Concept, RUTHMANN’s T 900 HF represents a quantum leap in the 90 m truck-mounted working platform category.

The objective in developing this machine was not to construct a platform with a working height of over 90 m, but to meet the needs of the market. Customers and above all operators personnel require a guarantee of the maximum stability and flexibility of use. The result is that RUTHMANN can now present the T 900 HF as currently the most flexible 90 m large-scale machine in the world in the truck-mounted working platform segment, with a revolutionary 42 m lateral outreach.

At Intermat 2018, RUTHMANN presented its first STEIGER® T 900 HF for its customer Felbermayr. As the picture here shows, with its maximum working height aof 90 m and its revolutionary lateral outreach of up to 42 m, the T 900 HF offers a variety of uses, such as working on wind turbines

RIS > n.3 May-June 2018  7

Intermat 2018 > Ruthmann

The STEIGER® T 900 HF uses the DRS (Dynamic Reach System) for the first time. This patented system enables constant maximum STEIGER® performance via the on-board real-time outreach calculation based on the individual STEIGER® configuration. A further special feature of the SKY performance STEIGER® T 900 HF is the revolutionary ‘Dual Concept’, which promises the customer higher utilisation rates thanks to the varied and unique application options. This means that the T 900 HF fulfils all the traditional functions of largescale truck-mount in the same working height class. In addition, the lower boom can be flexibly locked at an elevation angle of 80°-90°, which delivers enormous outreach benefits when working at great heights (SKY performance mode). Furthermore, as in equipment from smaller series, the lower boom can be erected at < 80° without being locked (HEIGHT performance mode). The highflex technology – already known from the current HEIGHT performance-series – enables flexible ‘up, over and back’ working when used on elevated sites, thanks to 440° basketand 220° jib (RÜSSEL®)-rotation angle. The T 900 HF is thus a ‘2-in-1 machine’ which greatly enlarges the range of uses and allows for unique applications. On a market-wide comparison, the T 900 HF demonstrates the greatest flexibility of use, amongst other things through the 3-stage upper boom telescope, which measures 33 m when extended, even with the maximum basket load of 600 kg. In its transport position the T 900 HF is very compact (total length only 14.99 m). Thanks to its unique construction – in retracted condition the basket is located in the middle of the vehicle - the work-

seat, 100% accessibility or the integrated lift-up system, which has been made substantially lighter and enables an additional 25 kg load capacity. The ambient lighting on the working basket is also innovative, as it enables well-illuminated working 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, even in darkness. The hand guard around the edge – even when the basket is fully extended – is one of the many safety features. The innovative RUTHMANN developments are supplemented by many tried and tested features, e.g. the high-tech steel boom profiles in multi-bevelled technology or the modern COCKPIT control technology. This guarantees safe, simple and intuitive operation of the STEIGER®, which does not differ from other STEIGER® models in terms of its functions. In addition, the STEIGER® T 900 HF is mounted on standard 5-axle chassis truck with a 48-52 t gross permitted vehicle weight. Unlike special vehicles, this guarantees a higher radi-

us of action and a readily-approved transport concept with service available throughout Europe. Typically RUTHMANN: the new SKY performance STEIGER® T 900 HF offers a choice of carrier vehicle options. Irrespective of whether customers want to use a SCANIA, MAN or VOLVO chassis, the proven choice of chassis once again demonstrates the high flexibility and simple handling for customers and operators. And when it comes to flexibility and efficiency of working, there is also a whole range of equipment options to choose from, such as a wide range of implements and mounted bodies for carrying tools and materials safely, different generators, a variety of heating systems for the COCKPIT basket control and the basket floor, a first aid box in the basket or camera brackets for TV productions, and much more. From today’s perspective, the STEIGER® T 900 HF will primarily be used in the wind energy, building

technology, (petro-) chemicals factories, sports events, telecommunication and port equipment segments. But who knows what else will also be possible in terms of entirely new areas of application with the new RUTHMANN technology! RUTHMANN has already taken five orders for its new flagship truck-mounted working platform. As well as Felbermayr (Austria), Hüffermann (Germany), Joly (France) and COŞKUN VİNÇ (Turkey), Gräber (Germany), has also decided in favour of the SKY performance STEIGER® T 900 HF.◀

eal Betis Balompié, a football (soccer) club from the Spanish First Division (La Liga), is close to finishing the reconstruction works of its home ground, in the city of Seville. It is expected that the construction of the “Gol Sur” (South goal or South end), the last stands of the “Benito Villamarín” stadium, will end next June, right before the starting of the 2017-2018 season. The works, which started during the summer of 2016 with the demolition of the previous old stands, are being carried out through the football season without affecting the competitive calendar of Real Betis, who has played all home games at the “Benito Villamarín”. For the construction of the new structure, which

will increase the stadium’s capacity in 8,000 seats, three 18-tonner Linden Comansa 21LC290 tower cranes were erected in October 2016, hired by general contractor Heliopol from rental company Eleva Grúas Torre. The stands under construction have a nearby street right behind them, which forced to close the traffic during two days and to speed up the assembly times. Furthermore, due

to the reduced space between the new stands and the street, one of the cranes was erected on a 4.5-metres cross base instead of the 6-metre base, which is more common in this model. Since then, the three 21LC290 cranes work with a 54-metre-long radius, mainly lifting special formwork and precast concrete pieces of up to 7.000 kilos in weight. To avoid interferences between the cranes, the one located in between has a height under hook of 56.3 metres while the ones in the sides are working at a height of 42.6 metres. When the project ends, the new stands will have three heights or levels along with the rest of the venue and will not be independent anymore. Thus, the “Benito Villamarín”

will give from the outside the impression of a compact stadium and will have capacity for 58,000 supporters of Real Betis. This is not the first time that Linden Comansa cranes are working at the green and white team’s coliseum, which opened in 1929. In the previous expansion of the stadium, carried out between 1998 and 2000, contractor Dragados installed three Linden Comansa tower cranes that helped to complete the “Fondo” stands, right in front of the Main stands, and the “Gol Norte” (North end), opposite to the ones that are about to be finished. Rental company Eleva Grúas Torre is a reference in Seville and the Andalusian region, and owns a fleet of more than 70 Linden Comansa tower cranes. Since

starting operations almost 12 years ago, Eleva has participated in prestigious projects such the construction of the Melonares Dam and the Palmas Altas campus (headquarters of multi-national Abengoa) both in Seville, the Cadiz bay bridge or the refurbishing of the San Telmo palace, seat of the presidency of the Andalusian Autonomous Government.◀
