An Unavoidable Casualty Jason Vanderlaan
A dry leaf Scrapes across
The cold
sidewalk,
Just before
Beneath
Up
it
crunches
my foot.
ahead,
A lamppost flickers And I
dies.
walk past
And
it
continue in darkness.
A tear escapes And
rolls
from
my eye
down my cheek.
Making this chilly night Seem even colder. There
is
no mercy
In these winter winds.
