Dust and Rust by Jason Vanderlaan

Dust and Rust

This dust looks like rust

On the blade of a sword

As I look down, ashamed

By the layer of light brown

Covering the leathery black

Of my Holy Bible,

Wholly unused for far too long.

And if it came down to a fight tonight

You'd see how quickly I'd fall

For a sword in its sheath

Is simply a sword.

But a sword shimmering in the sun

Is the sign of a soul

Strengthened by the Spirit.

So as I open this Bible

And unsheathe this sword

I pray for the courage

To rejoin this war.
