A Dreary Day in October

You're not the only one

Who's changed:

I've changed too -

Like the color of Fall leaves

And the shape of fallen raindrops

On a dreary day in October.

And you're not the only one

Who's stayed the same:

I've stayed the same too -

Like a stark, barren tree

And an overcast sky

On a dreary day in October.

But no one ever said

This had to be permanent:

Leaves can be blown away

And raindrops can dry up;

Empty trees can be full again

And a grey sky can change to blue.

Yet somehow I fear

It will be a dreary day in October

Forever.
