STORIES OF SAN MIGUEL "Enter to learn, leave to serve"

Hope by Roger Carter, President

Where does a heart truly broken, a spirit hopelessly abandoned, find hope? What exists within a human being that allows for survival amidst such devastation? It must be God … Who else could it be? These words were written by Henri Landwirth a Holocaust survivor who had at one time given up hope completely, blinded by the hatred seeing man’s inhumanity to man while in the Nazi concentration camps from the age of 13 to 18. Henri eventually escaped from the concentration camp and eventually made his way to the United States and became a true rags to riches story. It seems Henri never gave up hope after all, and God placed on Henri’s heart a desire to spread hope to others. Henri realized there was a need to grant the last wishes of children with terminal or lifethreating diseases. It was a way to provide hope to God’s children. Give Kids the World is the organization still active today located in Florida. For about a week, the children and their families are given everything free, including visiting theme parks and just having the opportunity to forget all the pain of their world consumed with doctor and hospital visits. The experience often gives the children a new lease of life and a feeling of hope. I like to believe this thing called hope is evident in everything we do at San Miguel Middle School. I totally agree with Henri … this must be God … who else could it be?! God’s Peace.
