The True Meaning of Christmas

by Roger Carter, President The angel said to them, “Do not be afraid; for behold, I proclaim to you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. For today in the city of David a savior has been born for you who is Messiah and Lord.” And suddenly there was a multitude of the heavenly host with the angel, praising God and saying: "Glory to God in the highest and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests." - Luke 2:10-11, 13-15.

From all of us at San Miguel, we wish you a Merry Christmas ... and as always, God's Peace.

A teacher: An influencer, a motivator, an inspiration Teaching is not merely a profession, but a responsibility. And, when we say responsibility, it is not only about educating children, but is way more than that! A teacher’s role is multi-faceted, that goes beyond teaching, and involves playing diverse roles to shape a child’s learning, and achievements.

Mr. Jonathan Martínez plays different roles to touch the lives of San Miguel students and make a difference. He wants to bring change to the community around our school, not just by teaching academics and physical education, but by providing knowledge, inspiration, vision and mission to the young minds and souls.

Best thing about teaching at San Miguel: "The community. The relationships here are unlike any other school. From teacher to teacher.

Student to student. Student to teacher. From our school to our families. Everyone feels loved."

Mr. Martínez is our Physical Education teacher, and Graduate Support Coordinator.

He graduated from The University of Oklahoma.

San Miguel Alumni: The power of Giving Back!

Ms. Mariana Valdez graduated from San Miguel in 2013. She has started a professional career as part of the commercial loan team at the American Heritage Bank, San Miguel is a truly special place for Ms. Mariana, and she will be leading an exciting athletic program next year. She said that all sports program can positively impact children on multiple levels. Socially it gives them an opportunity to interact with classmates outside of the school setting.

It's the power of giving back and Ms. Mariana is ready!

Equitable Education is hope for all!

Every child should have a chance to succeed. Kids deserve access to a high quality equitable education that will allow them to reach their full potential. It is the best path to individual success and for the collective success of our community, city, state, nation, planet!

As an immigrant, I learned that the American Dream was not just owning a home, having a successful career or a roaring business. It means freedom, mutual respect and equality of opportunity, for all.

When James Truslow Adams popularized the expression, American Dream, in his book ‘The Epic of America,” he wrote that “it is not a dream of motor cars and high wages merely, but a dream of a social order in which each man and each woman shall be able to attain to the fullest stature of which they are innately capable, and recognized by others for what they are.”

The American Dream is a trajectory to a promising future. Our school, our extraordinary San Miguel students are a refreshing breeze of hope. We are in front of an incredible window that shows us every single day, that dreams do come true.

During this very special season of giving, as we give thanks for our blessings, I would like to thank YOU! Thanks for your endless generosity, support, commitment, dedication, and love for San Miguel. Because of you, our Ambassadors of Hope are achieving their dreams.

Merry everything, happy always, and cheers to a wonderful 2022! Have a very Merry Christmas!

Representation Matters Series: Officer Jesse Guardiola We kicked off a special meet-greet-learn series: Representation Matters. Our inaugural guest was Jesse Guardiola, a Tulsa Police Officer who has served for 25 years. He developed a Hispanic Outreach & Community Engagement Program, that has been adopted by 700 police departments in the nation. His story, as first generation American, born to immigrants parents, and first one in his family to graduate from college, provided an exceptional opportunity to our students to engage and learn. Officer Guardiola serves in numerous boards; however, he mentioned that being part of Catholic Charities Board of Directors is an outstanding opportunity to give back to a community that has supported him so much. He has been recognized with the United States Attorney General’s Award for Distinguished Service in Policing.

A very sweet Giving Tuesday: Thanks for supporting our school!

We partnered with Pancho Anaya Bakery and Hilo de Amor - Thread of Love to raise funds for our school on Giving Tuesday. It was fantastic to see our community supporting our mission, our students, our school!

Community Engagement: After the School Bell Rings Getting our San Miguel students out of the classroom, into the real world to engage, give back, and learn by doing is a fundamental aspect of our Lasallian tradition.

We have started approaching partners, getting ready for an exciting Spring Semester. Jonathan Townsend, Community Relations Manager at the Gathering Place; David 'Garden Dave' Goswick, Kendall Whittier Community & Learning Garden Coordinator, and Kendall-Whittier Emergency Food Pantry board member; Tulsa Latin American Chamber; Tulsa Community College; and many others.

Stay tuned for exciting announcements and volunteer opportunities.

HISTORIAS DE SAN MIGUEL "Ingresa para aprender, emprende camino para servir"

El Verdadero Significado de la Navidad por Roger Carter, Presidente El ángel les dijo: “No tengas miedo; porque aquí, les anuncio buenas nuevas de gran gozo que serán para todo el pueblo. Porque hoy en la ciudad de David ha nacido un salvador que es el Mesías y el Señor ”. De parte de todos en San Miguel, les deseamos una Feliz Navidad ... y como siempre, la Paz de Dios.

Un maestro: Una influencia, un motivador, una inspiración La docencia no es meramente una profesión, sino una responsabilidad. Y, cuando decimos responsabilidad, no se trata solamente de educar a los niños, ¡sino que es mucho más que eso. El papel de un maestro es multifacético, va más allá de la enseñanza e implica desempeñar diversos roles para moldear el aprendizaje y los logros de un niño.

El Sr. Jonathan Martínez desarrolla diferentes funciones para impactar las vidas de los estudiantes de San Miguel y poder marcar la diferencia. Quiere traer un cambio a la comunidad alrededor de nuestra escuela, aparte de enseñar asuntos académicos y educación física, pero proporcionando conocimiento, inspiración, visión y misión a las mentes y almas de los jóvenes.

Lo mejor de enseñar en San Miguel: "La comunidad. Las amistades aquí son diferentes a las de cualquier otra escuela. De maestro a maestro. De estudiante a estudiante. De estudiante a maestro. Nuestra escuela a nuestras familias. Todos se sienten queridos".

El Sr. Martínez es nuestro maestro de Educación Física y Coordinador de Apoyo a los Graduados. Se recibió de la Universidad de Oklahoma.

Alumnos de San Miguel: ¡El poder de retribuir!

La Srta. Mariana Valdez se graduó de San Miguel en el 2013. Ha comenzado una carrera profesional en el American Heritage Bank, como parte del equipo de préstamos comerciales.

San Miguel es un lugar verdaderamente especial para la Srta. Mariana, y ella dirigirá un emocionante programa atlético el próximo año. Ella ha dicho que un programa deportivo puede impactar positivamente a los niños en múltiples niveles. Socialmente les da la oportunidad de interactuar con compañeros de clase fuera del entorno escolar. ¡Es el poder de retribuir y la Srta. Mariana está lista!

Todo niño debería tener la oportunidad de triunfar. Los niños merecen acceso a una educación equitativa de alta calidad que les permita alcanzar su máximo potencial. ¡Es el mejor camino hacia el éxito individual y colectivo de nuestra comunidad, ciudad, estado, nación, planeta!

Como inmigrante, aprendí que el Sueño Americano no era solamente tener una casa, tener una carrera exitosa o un negocio en auge. Significa libertad, respeto mutuo e igualdad de oportunidades para todos.

Cuando James Truslow Adams popularizó la expresión Sueño Americano en su libro La epopeya de Estados Unidos, escribió que no es un sueño de automóviles y salarios altos meramente, sino un sueño de un orden social en el que cada hombre y cada mujer podrá alcanzar la estatura más plena de la que sea innatamente capaz, y ser reconocido por los demás por lo que es".

El Sueño Americano es una trayectoria hacia un futuro prometedor. Nuestra escuela, nuestros

esperanza. Estamos frente a una ventana increíble que nos muestra todos los días, que los sueños se hacen realidad.

Serie de la Representación es Importante: Oficial Jesse Guardiola Iniciamos una serie especial para conocer y aprender: La Representación es Importante. Nuestro invitado inaugural fue Jesse Guardiola, un oficial de policía de Tulsa, quien ha servido durante 25 años. Desarrolló un Programa de Participación Comunitaria y Alcance Hispano, que ha sido adoptado por 700 departamentos de policía en la nación. Su historia, como estadounidense de primera generación, nacido de padres inmigrantes y el primero en su familia en graduarse de la universidad, le brindó una oportunidad excepcional a nuestros estudiantes para participar y aprender. El oficial Guardiola se encuentra involucrado en numerosas juntas directivas; sin embargo, mencionó que ser parte de Caridades Católicas es una excelente oportunidad para retribuir a una comunidad que lo ha apoyado tanto. Ha sido reconocido con el Premio del Fiscal General de los Estados Unidos por Servicio Distinguido en la Policía.

Un Martes muy dulce: ¡Gracias por apoyar a nuestra escuela!

Nos aliamos con la Panadería Pancho Anaya e Hilo de Amor para recaudar fondos para nuestra escuela. ¡Fue fantástico ver a nuestra comunidad apoyando nuestra misión, nuestros estudiantes, nuestra escuela!

Enlace Comunitario: Después de que suena la campana de la escuela Lograr que nuestros estudiantes de San Miguel salgan del aula y entren al mundo real para participar, retribuir y aprender haciendo algo, es un aspecto fundamental de nuestra tradición Lasallista.
