Is Trump Considering Firing FBI’s Kash Patel? White House Responds
The White House has firmly denied reports that President Donald Trump is considering firing FBI Director Kash Patel, following claims that the administration is weighing his removal amid growing controversies.
On Tuesday, MS NOW reported that Trump was evaluating a plan to replace Patel with FBI co-Deputy Director Andrew Bailey, citing concerns over Patel’s social media activity during sensitive investigations and his use of a government aircraft to visit his girlfriend. White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt rejected the report outright, calling it “completely made up” in a statement on X.
Bailey — a former Missouri attorney general — has been viewed for months as a potential successor to both Patel and co-Deputy Director Dan Bongino, both of whom are known more
for their political commentary and public profiles than traditional law enforcement careers.
Despite the speculation, Trump recently expressed support for Patel in a Fox News Radio interview, saying he had “a lot of confidence” in the FBI
chief. Still, Patel's actions have drawn increasing scrutiny. According to The New York Times, the FBI deployed a SWAT team to protect Alexis Wilkins, Patel’s girlfriend and a country singer. The director has also used government planes for personal trips, including a
US Envoy Advised Russia on Pitching Ukraine Plan to Trump
US presidential envoy Steve Witkoff, fresh from the triumph of the Gaza peace deal, held a phone call last month with a senior Kremlin official to suggest they work together on a similar plan for Ukraine - and that Vladimir Putin should raise it with Donald Trump.
In an Oct. 14 phone call that lasted a little over five minutes, Witkoff advised Yuri Ushakov, Putin's top foreign policy aide, on how the Russian leader should broach the issue with Trump. His guidance included suggestions on setting up a Trump-Putin call before Volodymyr Zelensky's White House visit later that week and using the Gaza agreement as a way in.
During his call with Ushakov, Witkoff told his Russian counterpart that he had deep respect for Putin and that he had told Trump that it was his belief that Russia has always wanted a peace deal.
"We put a 20-point Trump plan together that was 20 points for peace
and I'm thinking maybe we do the same thing with you," Witkoff told Ushakov, according to a recording of the conversation reviewed and transcribed by Bloomberg. A White House spokesperson, Anna Kelly, acknowledged receipt of a request for comment and didn't immediately respond. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov didn't immediately respond to comment. The conversation for the first time offers direct insight into Witkoff's recent tactics for negotiating with Russia and what appears to be the genesis of the 28-point peace proposal that emerged earlier this month - which the US has pushed Ukraine to accept as the basis of a deal.
Washington DC mayor Muriel Bowser won't seek re-election
Washington DC Mayor Muriel Bowser announced on Tuesday she will not seek reelection next year for a fourth term. Bowser, who has been mayor since 2015, says she was looking to the future and that her administration had "laid the groundwork for others to build upon".
The Democratic mayor oversaw the US capital city through several periods of turmoil over the last decade, most recently clashing with US President Donald Trump over his deployment of National Guard troops across the city as well as the mass lay-offs of federal workers. Her decision is likely to open up a crowded field of candidates seeking to replace her in the Democratic stronghold. "It has been the honour of my life to be your mayor," Bowser said in a video announcement. "But today, with a grateful heart, I am announcing that I will not seek a fourth term... For the next 12 months, let's run through the tape and keep winning for DC."
She listed what she said were accomplishments after 10 years in office, including increasing housing, steering the city through the COVID pandemic, and bringing major infrastructure investments to low-income areas of the federal district.
During Trump's first term, the president clashed with Bowser over several issues including crime and the city's response to racial reckoning protests in 2020. She approved a Black Lives Matter mural on the major thoroughfare leading up to the White House, a move that angered the president.
Patel's conduct has come under intensified scrutiny in recent weeks. The New York Times reported the FBI dispatched a SWAT team to serve as a protective detail for Alexis Wilkins, his girlfriend and a country music singer.
golf outing — travel he defended as necessary to maintain access to secure communications systems. Patel has additionally been criticized for posting information about active investigations on social media. These incidents included updates during the manhunt for the suspect accused of killing conservative activist Charlie Kirk and during a probe into what the FBI said was a planned Halloween terror attack in Michigan.
Trump’s DOGE Denies Shutdown Rumours
The Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), once led by billionaire Elon Musk, is well and truly functional and will return with its regular updates soon, it said on Monday.
In a post on X, DOGE dismissed reports that it had been shut down and called them "fake news".
Tagging Reuters, which earlier reported that the department had disbanded after eight months, DOGE wrote: "As usual, this is fake news from Reuters.
President Trump was given a mandate by the American people to modernise the federal government and reduce waste, fraud and abuse."
In the past week alone, DOGE terminated 78 contracts, saving taxpayers $335 million, and promised to resume its standard Friday update soon, it added.
Earlier this month, Office of Personnel Management Director Scott Kupor told Reuters DOGE "doesn't exist."
Despite that, DOGE says it continues to work with other government agencies to upgrade technology and software.

"Full Confidence In Security": Israel After Netanyahu's India Visit Deferred
HiIndia Newsdesk
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office has clarified that they are working to 'coordinate a new visit date' to India amid reports of his visit being postponed due to security concerns.
In a post on X, Netanyahu's office wrote that, "The PM has full confidence in India's security under PM Modi, and teams are already coordinating a new visit date."
The post explained, "Israel's bond with India" and the relationship between the prime ministers of both nations are "very strong".
According to an Israeli media report, the trip was delayed over security concerns after the deadly terror attack in New Delhi two weeks ago, the worst there in more than a decade, killing at least 15 people and injuring dozens.
"Netanyahu, who last visited India in 2018 and was set to return for meetings with PM Modi, is now expected to seek a new date next year pending security assessments," i24NEWS had reported, quoting sources.
According to reports, Netanyahu was planning to visit India by the end of the year. However, this will be the third time this year that the Israeli leader has cancelled a visit to India.

Taliban Calls Pakistan Strikes a Regime Failure
A fragile diplomatic truce between Pakistan and Afghanistan collapsed dramatically this week after Pakistani forces carried out overnight airstrikes inside Afghan territory, hitting civilian areas in Paktika, Khost, and Kunar provinces.
The attacks, described by Afghan authorities as a "direct assault on sovereignty", have triggered warnings from the Taliban-led Islamic Emirate, deepening an already volatile standoff that has stretched for weeks. The strikes come despite ceasefire understandings reached during recent Qatar and Turkey negotiations, where both sides publicly signalled readiness to de-escalate. Afghan officials now say Pakistan's military regime has "betrayed its commitments" and reverted to what they call a pattern of "habitual duplicity".
According to local Afghan authorities, the late-night bombardment caused multiple civilian casualties, including women and children. Independent

verification remains difficult due to restricted access in the targeted districts, but Afghan social media channels have been flooded with images said to depict the aftermath of the attack.
In a statement, Zabihullah Mujahid, spokesperson for the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, condemned the strikes as a violation of international norms and Afghan territorial integrity.

Trump says he will visit China in April after call with Xi
President Donald Trump has said he agreed to visit Beijing in April and invited Chinese President Xi Jinping for a state visit later next year, following a phone call between the two leaders.
Trump and Xi - who met nearly a month ago in South Korea - discussed a range of issues including trade, Russia's invasion of Ukraine, fentanyl and Taiwan, according to the president and China's foreign ministry.
"Our relationship with China is extremely strong!" Trump wrote in a Truth Social post. China's state new agency released a statement that said both countries should "keep up the momentum, keep moving forward in the right direction on the basis of equality, respect and mutual benefit".
The leaders met in Busan, South Korea in October, after which they agreed to a truce on tariffs. The US decided to cut a 20% tariff in half aimed at decreasing the flow of fentanyl.
Tariffs remain on Chinese goods and average just below 50%.
"Since then, the China-US relationship has generally maintained a steady and positive trajectory, and this is welcomed by the two countries and the broader international community," the Chinese statement said.
The US then pulled back a threat of 100% additional tariffs on Chinese goods, while China delayed its plan to introduce its latest round of rare earth export controls.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said the Monday call with Xi - which lasted about an hour - was focused on trade.
"We are pleased with what we've seen from from the Chinese, and they feel the same way," she said.
In addition to discussing trade, Xi and Trump broached the topics of Russia's invasion of Ukraine and Taiwan. Xi told Trump that Taiwan's "return to China" is essential for China's vision for the "post-war international order".

Indian Man Convicted in $8M Parcel Scam
Atharva Shailesh Sathawane, a 22-year-old Indian man also known as Andy, has been convicted by a federal jury on charges of wire fraud and conspiracy to commit money laundering in a multimillion-dollar parcel scam targeting senior citizens in Florida. The sentencing is scheduled for December 16, 2025, in a Gainesville court, and he could face up to 20 years in prison. Atharva, who was arrested on February 13 in Tampa, was apprehended while collecting $200,000 worth of gold coins from an 83-year-old victim in Gainesville. According to prosecutors, the scam initially involved tricking victims into believing a small amount had been accidentally transferred to their PayPal accounts. Victims were then coerced into transferring large sums of money in Bitcoin or gold to avoid supposed tax penalties. Atharva personally collected the parcels, making him the key operative in the scheme. Court documents reveal that Atharva coordinated with accomplices in Chicago and India to collect parcels and facilitate cash and gold transfers. Investigators confirmed he picked up around 30 parcels from various states. Some victims reportedly lost their entire life savings. During questioning, Atharva admitted he knew the operations were illegal but continued to participate for payment, earning $800–$1,200 per parcel. He was living illegally in the U.S. at the time, though details of his entry remain unclear. Authorities discovered the scale of his activities after examining his phone, which contained records confirming his involvement in the fraudulent operations

PM Modi Urges Citizens to Honor Duties on Constitution Day
New Delhi:
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday urged citizens to fulfil their Constitutional duties, asserting that these were foundations for a strong democracy.
In a letter to citizens on Constitution Day, the prime minister also stressed the responsibility of strengthening democracy by exercising the right to vote, and suggested that schools and colleges celebrate Constitution Day by honouring first-time voters turning 18.
PM Modi recalled Mahatma Gandhi's belief that rights flow from the performance of duties, stressing that fulfilling duties is the foundation for social and economic progress. He underscored that the policies and
decisions taken today will shape the lives of generations to come, and urged citizens to place their duties foremost in their minds as India moves towards the vision of a Viksit Bharat.

Arunachal Woman Responds After Shanghai Harassment
A woman from Arunachal Pradesh who was harassed in China has issued a strong message of unity while responding to online trolls after her ordeal at Shanghai airport. Pema Wang Thongdok said that whatever action the Indian government takes in her case benefits all Indians, not just her individually.
Thongdok earlier alleged that Chinese immigration officers detained her for 18 hours during a three-hour layover

India Rebukes China Over Arunachal Comments
India on Tuesday issued one of its strongest recent statements against China after an Indian woman from Arunachal Pradesh was harassed, detained for over 18 hours, and denied normal transit procedures at Shanghai's Pudong International Airport. The incident, which was already raising diplomatic concerns, was further inflamed by a controversial statement from the Chinese Foreign Ministry, which once again challenged India's sovereignty over Arunachal Pradesh.
Green Card Applicants Facing Arrest During USCIS Interviews in San Diego
Agrowing number of green card applicants in San Diego are being arrested by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) during their interviews at the local USCIS office, causing widespread concern. Immigration lawyers say several applicants, many of them spouses of U.S. citizens, are being detained without prior notice. According to attorneys, the arrests primarily target individuals who initially entered the U.S. legally but later overstayed their visas. Many of those affected applied for marriagebased green cards and have no criminal record, yet they are taken into custody during their scheduled interviews. Lawyers report that ICE agents are already stationed
Immigration attorneys warn of a sudden surge in detentions as ICE allegedly adopts a quiet new policy targeting out-of-status applicants during routine green card interviews, leaving families fearful and legal experts alarmed
at USCIS offices in anticipation of these arrivals, allowing detentions to occur immediately without warning. One San Diego attorney told CBS 8 that five of his clients were arrested last week alone, highlighting the sudden and widespread nature of the crackdown. Legal experts warn that these detentions are causing fear and confusion, leaving applicants uncertain about attending interviews and jeopardizing their immigration status.
ICE confirmed that undocumented or out-of-status individuals entering federal buildings for immigration processing may be detained and face removal proceedings. Advocates say the trend reflects the Trump administration’s intensified efforts to quickly apprehend easily traceable undocumented immigrants.

Yoga vs. Gym The Ultimate Showdown!
EXCLUSIVE! For years, the battle has raged in our quest for the perfect physique and ultimate well-being: is it the serene stretches of yoga or the pumping iron of the gym that truly reigns supreme? This week, our intrepid reporters dive deep into the fitness fads to bring you the scandalous truth behind these two titans!
The Iron Paradise: Grunt and Glory!
Step into any gym, and you're immediately hit with the invigorating clanking of weights, the rhythmic thud of treadmills, and the determined grunts of sculpted individuals pushing their limits. Gym enthusiasts swear by the undeniable power of strength training to build muscle, torch calories, and achieve that coveted toned look. "I feel like a superhero after a heavy lifting session," beams Mark "The Machine" Johnson, a regular at Flex City Gym. "The pump is real, and the results speak for themselves!"
Critics, however, whisper about the repetitive nature of some workouts, the potential for injury, and the intimidating atmosphere that can deter newcomers. Is it all about vanity, or is there a deeper benefit to barbells?
The Zen Zone: Stretch, Breathe, Transform!
On the other side of the mat, yoga practitioners champion a holistic approach to fitness, focusing on flexibility, balance, and mental clarity. From Ashtanga to Vinyasa, the ancient art promises a sculpted body through mindful movement and deep breathing. "Yoga transformed my life," declares Serenity "The Yogi" Singh, a renowned instructor. "It's not just about the physical; it's about connecting with your inner self, finding peace, and building strength you never knew you had."
But skeptics question the intensity, wondering if yoga alone is enough to deliver significant cardiovascular benefits or muscle mass comparable to a rigorous gym routine. Is it just gentle stretching, or is there a powerful force hiding in those downward dogs?
The Verdict: A Tantalizing Twist!
So, who wins this epic clash? Our investigation reveals a surprising truth! While both offer incredible benefits, the best option might just be... both!
Many fitness experts now advocate for a balanced approach, incorporating the muscle-building power of the gym with the flexibility and mental benefits of yoga. Imagine the strength of a weightlifter with the grace of a yogi!
"It's not about choosing one over the other," explains Dr. Anya Sharma, a leading sports physiologist. "They complement each other perfectly. Gym work builds raw power, while yoga improves range of motion and prevents injuries, creating a truly resilient and balanced body."
So, whether you're a gym fanatic or a yoga guru, perhaps it's time to open your mind to the possibilities of a fitness fusion! Your body – and your mind – will thank you for it!
The Longevity Diet: Can Less Food Really Mean More Life?
For decades, the idea of eating less to live longer was relegated to the realm of eccentric diets and animal experiments. But now, Calorie Restriction (CR)— the practice of significantly reducing food intake while maintaining essential nutrition—is gaining serious scientific backing as a powerful intervention for extending both lifespan and "healthspan" in humans.
Rewinding the Clock: What the Science Says
The concept, which dates back to studies on rats in the 1930s, has been shown to extend life in organisms as diverse as yeast, worms, mice, and even some primates. More recent, long-term human studies are finally providing compelling evidence that this principle holds true for us.
Slowing the Pace of Aging: The landmark CALERIE trial (Comprehensive Assessment of Long-Term Effects of Reducing Intake of Energy) is one of the first randomized controlled trials in healthy, non-obese adults. Researchers found that participants who adhered to calorie restriction for two years showed a slowing in the pace of biological aging—an effect comparable to quitting smoking!
The Power of Epigenetics: Scientists measure aging using "epigenetic clocks" based on DNA methylation. The human trial demonstrated that CR affects a key "speedometer" of aging, suggesting that the intervention is actively slowing
the rate of biological deterioration over time
The Critical Caveat: Restriction Without Malnutrition
Crucially, experts stress that the benefits are tied to Calorie Restriction without malnutrition. Simply starving yourself is dangerous and counterproductive. The goal is to consume 20-40% fewer calories than a "normal" diet, but ensure every single calorie is packed with essential vitamins, minerals, fiber, and healthy macronutrients.
Dr. Mark Mattson, Chief of the Laboratory of Neurosciences at the National Institute on Aging, explains: "First, [CR] reduces free radical production... and the second is that calorie restriction increases the resistance of cells to stress. Both of these are important in protecting against a number of different diseases that have a negative impact on life span."
Foreign Tourists to Pay Higher Fees at Major US National Parks From 2026
Foreign visitors to some of America’s most iconic national parks — including the Grand Canyon, Yosemite and the Everglades — will soon face significantly higher entry costs. The Trump administration announced on Tuesday that, starting in 2026, international tourists will be required to pay an additional $100 on top of existing entrance fees to access 11 of the most popular national parks.
According to the Department of the Interior, which oversees the National Park System, the new pricing structure is part of a broader effort to prioritize access for U.S. citizens and permanent residents. Under the revised fees, nonresidents will pay more than $250 for an annual park pass, compared with the current $80 rate that will remain unchanged for Americans. The department said the fee increase aligns with President Donald Trump’s goal of making national parks more affordable for American families, while ensuring

G20 summit boycotted by US closes in South Africa
The G20 summit in South Africa, a gathering of the world's major economies, has ended with a joint declaration committing to "multilateral co-operation".
The declaration, which covered climate change mitigation and economic inequality, was adopted despite objections from the US, which boycotted the meeting in Johannesburg.
Speaking at the closing ceremony on Sunday, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa said the agreement showed "shared goals" outweighed the countries' differences.
American President Donald Trump chose to abstain from the G20 because of a widely discredited claim that South Africa's white minority is the victim of large-scale killings and land grabs. It was the first time a G20 summit was held in Africa. Indonesia, India and Brazil have led the summit over the past three years. The US will host the G20 in 2026, with the summit expected to be held at Trump's golf course in Florida. The ceremonial handover of the presidency which was meant to happen at the end of the summit on Sunday did not take place. It is expected to take place next week, involving junior officials.
Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva said "it didn't matter much" that Trump had not attended, adding that multilateralism was "more alive than ever".
German Chancellor Fredriech Merz said it had not been a "good decision" for the US to abstain.
He told Reuters news agency that what he had noted at the G20 was that "the world is currently undergoing a realignment and that new connections are being formed".
the country’s natural treasures. “These policies ensure that U.S. taxpayers, who already support the National Park System, continue to enjoy affordable access, while international visitors contribute their fair share to maintaining and improving our parks for future generations,” said Interior Secretary Doug Burgum. The changes will take effect alongside an upgraded online reservation system and expanded access for motorcyclists across the park network. Additionally, the administration has announced
eight “patriotic fee-free” days in 2026 — including Memorial Day, Independence Day and Veterans Day — during which only U.S. residents will receive complimentary entry.
The fee hike follows an executive order signed by Trump in July directing the Park Service to raise entrance charges for foreign nationals. The White House said at the time that the additional revenue would support conservation efforts and help address maintenance backlogs, even as the administration proposed significant cuts to the agency’s overall budget.
US national parks have seen recordbreaking crowds in recent years, welcoming more than 331 million visitors in 2024 — an increase of over six million from the previous year. The surge in tourism has heightened concerns about wear and tear at sites such as Yosemite, the Rocky Mountains and the Everglades, prompting renewed debate over how to balance accessibility with sustainability.
Tourist tax expected to be introduced for London
The mayor of London has cautiously welcomed reports that he is to impose a tourist levy on visitors staying overnight in the capital.
Chancellor Rachel Reeves is expected to give Sir Sadiq Khan and other civic chiefs the authority to do so through the English Devolution and Community Empowerment Bill, which is currently going through Parliament.
Sir Sadiq has been vocal in calling for such powers to be devolved, with estimates suggesting a tourist tax in London could raise up to £240m a year. In 2024, London saw 89 million overnight stays.
Currently England is the only country among the G7 (Group of Seven) - the world's seven largest so-called "advanced" economies - where national government prevents local authorities or mayors from implementing tourist levies.
Scotland and Wales have both recently introduced different types of taxes on overnight visitors, with local authorities in the former able to set their own levy as a percentage rate of the daily bill for accommodation.
From 2026, Welsh authorities will be able to collect £1.30 per night from visitors. The Greater London Authority (GLA) recently asked the Centre for Cities thinktank to probe promising areas for further devolution in the capital.

New Delhi:
A volcano erupted in northern Ethiopia for the first time in nearly 12,000 years on Sunday, with winds moving at a speed of 100-120 km/h carrying the ash plumes to many countries, including India.
The Hayli Gubbi volcano in the Afar region of Ethiopia erupted on Sunday morning, and the ash clouds entered Delhi, which is already struggling with the toxic air, late last night, affecting flight operations. The ash plumes, thousands of feet up in the atmosphere, first entered Gujarat and drifted towards Rajasthan, Delhi, Haryana, and Punjab.
Israeli PM Cancels India Visit
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has once again postponed his visit to India, scheduled for later this year, to meet with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Azizi said Afghanistan is "open for business" with India and ready to provide full security guarantees for Indian diplomats in Kabul.

Canada Set to Revise Citizenship Law
Canada is preparing a significant amendment to its Citizenship Act, a move that could benefit thousands of people of Indian origin. Himanta Claims Zubeen Was Murdered, Not Accident
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday said singer Zubeen Garg's death was not an "accident" but a "murder". The 52-year-old singer-composer died while swimming in a sea in Singapore on September 19. Speaking in the Assam Assembly during an adjournment motion moved by the opposition to discuss the death of Garg, Sarma said it was "not culpable homicide" or a "criminal conspiracy" but a "plain murder".
born abroad. This first-generation limit was introduced in 2009. On December 19, 2023, the Ontario Superior Court ruled this provision unconstitutional. Rather than appeal, the government acknowledged that the rule was unfair because it denied automatic citizenship to certain children of Canadian parents.
The Canadian Immigration Lawyers Association also welcomed Bill C-3, stating that the second-generation cut-off created a “second-class citizen” experience for many Canadians born abroad. Once implemented, individuals who were previously denied citizenship due to the old rule will become eligible.
The court has set a deadline of January 2026 for full implementation, giving IRCC time to finalize procedures. The reform is expected to help many Indians who returned to India after obtaining Canadian citizenship, ensuring their India-born children can also receive Canadian citizenship.
The White House defended President Donald Trump’s stance on H-1B visas, with Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt saying he holds a “nuanced, common-sense” view: Trump would permit foreign workers only initially, particularly when companies investing trillions in the US need specialised talent to launch projects like battery manufacturing, but he ultimately wants those jobs filled by Americans. She said the President’s position has been widely misunderstood, emphasizing that Trump has made it clear to foreign companies that if they invest in the US, they “better be hiring my people.”

Vermont Gujarati Store Owner Arrested by ICE
An undocumented Gujarati man running a store in Vermont has been arrested by ICE for multiple criminal offenses in the U.S. and India. Known locally as Peter Patel, he was detained on November 9 by ICE’s Boston field office. According to ICE officials, Patel has been involved in DUI, assault and second-degree battery, theft and possession of stolen goods.
Patel reportedly entered the U.S. illegally in 2019. A final removal order was issued against him on December 9, 2020, but he continued to live and work in Vermont. His arrest became a major local talking point, prompting ICE to clarify that he was taken into custody because of his criminal record and outstanding deportation order. Residents were surprised to learn that Patel and his wife—who helped operate the store—were undocumented. ICE agents arrived without presenting a warrant, locked the store and sent customers away before arresting Patel. The store reopened hours later, and his wife informed local leaders that she believed the arrest was a mistake. However, ICE records suggest otherwise, and Patel remains in custody with deportation now considered almost certain. Sources say several Gujaratis with DUI and minor criminal charges have recently been arrested across the U.S., with at least two already deported to India on flights earlier in November.

US Court Orders Byju’s Founder to Pay $1 Billion
New Delhi: A US bankruptcy court has ordered Byju's founder Byju Raveendran to pay over $1.07 billion, holding him personally liable for the movement and concealment of funds from Byju's Alpha, the company's US-based financing arm.
The default judgment, issued by Judge Brendan Shannon of the Delaware Bankruptcy Court, follows Raveendran's repeated failure to comply with directions to appear before the court and provide documents, according to multiple media reports. A default judgment is a ruling issued when a party does not participate in the litigation or ignores court orders, allowing the court to decide the case without a trial.
According to a joint statement by the governments of India, Australia, and Canada, the three sides agreed to "strengthen their ambition in cooperation on critical and emerging technologies to complement existing bilateral initiatives".

Appeals Court Blocks Release of Chicago Immigrant Detainees
Stay halts release of 615 arrested without warrants
A federal appeals court has halted the release of hundreds of undocumented immigrants who were arrested in Chicago without warrants over the past two and a half months. The decision pauses an earlier order by a federal judge requiring the release of 615 detainees by November 21. The Trump administration challenged that ruling, prompting the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals to issue a temporary stay while the case proceeds. Oral arguments are scheduled for December 2. Immigration advocates called the stay disappointing and warned that detainees may remain in custody for months, risking deportation without due process. The case stems from “Operation Midway Blitz,” during which federal agents allegedly violated a 2018 government commitment not to make warrantless immigration arrests in Illinois and five neighboring states. Court records show that 97% of those arrested face no proven criminal charges. Of the 615 detainees, only 16 have serious charges, mostly assault or domestic violence.

The infrastructure is as large as China's Fujian aircraft carrier and will be operational in 2028. It can withstand rough seas with 6-9 metre waves and typhoons of category 17, the most powerfully rated tropical cyclones.

Trump Welcomes Zohran Mamdani to White House
Washington: US President Donald Trump gave a warm greeting to incoming New York City mayor Zohran Mamdani at the White House on Friday, praising Mamdani's electoral victory in the first in-person meeting for the political opposites, who have clashed over everything from immigration to economic policy.
A democratic socialist and littleknown state lawmaker who won New York's mayoral race earlier this month,
Mamdani requested the sit-down with Trump to discuss cost-of-living issues and public safety.
After months of trading barbs and insults in the media, the mayor-elect and the president appeared to put aside their differences and quickly strike a rapport in the Oval Office, a setting that Trump has sometimes used to embarrass heads of state.
"We agreed on a lot more than I thought," Trump said after inviting journalists into the Oval Office following a private meeting. "We have one thing in common: we want this city of ours that we love to do very well." Sitting at his desk, Trump smiled up at Mamdani, who stood to the president's right, and offered his congratulations on winning the mayoral election earlier this month: "He really ran an incredible race against some very tough people, very smart people."
Nitish Kumar first took charge of Bihar's Home Department - among the most prized in any state or federal set-up in India - in November 2005 and has held it almost ever since.

Mother of Four Deported
After 35 Years in US
A 43-year-old Vietnamese woman, Melissa Tran, who had lived in the United States as a green-card holder since 1990, was deported last week after a 20-year-old removal order was finally executed. Tran had arrived in the US as an 11-year-old child refugee and built her life in Maryland, where she operated a small salon and raised four children.
According to US news reports, her legal troubles stemmed from a 2001 incident in which she admitted to stealing checks from her employer. In 2004, immigration authorities issued a final removal order, but her deportation stalled because Vietnam refused to accept people who had left
the country before 1995. For years, Tran lived under supervision and was required to report regularly to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). In May 2025, she was detained during one such check-in after authorities classified her as a “criminal
alien,” citing charges related to forgery, larceny, fraud and fraudulent checks. DHS maintained that all legal procedures were followed in her removal.
During the next five months, Tran was transferred between detention centers in Baltimore, Louisiana, Arizona and Washington State. In October, a judge ordered her release, calling her prolonged detention unjustified. However, when she appeared again at the ICE Baltimore office on November 14 for a routine check-in, she was detained a second time. A new removal order was issued, and on November 19 she was deported to Vietnam.

Indian Murder Suspect Held in US
Vishat Kumar's true identity was allegedly discovered on a secondary inspection through the use of biometrics when he attempted to enter from Buffalo. N.Y.
An Indian national wanted for murder in his home country was arrested in the United States after being turned back from the Canadian border. Vishat Kumar, 22, was stopped by US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Peace Bridge crossing in Buffalo on November 16, shortly after Canada denied him entry.
Kumar, who had illegally entered the US in 2024 and skipped an asylum interview, was found to be hiding his identity during a secondary inspection. Biometric checks revealed his real name and an active Interpol Red Notice issued by Indian authorities for a murder case.
CBP officers handed him over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE/ERO). He is currently being held at the Federal Detention Facility in Batavia, New York, while US authorities begin removal proceedings.
New Delhi: The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) uncovered a major Hamas tunnel in the Gaza Strip where the body of Lieutenant Hadar Goldin was held by the terror group recently. Lieutenant Goldin was killed during an ambush in Gaza during the 2014 Israel-Hamas war. Earlier this month, Israel had received his remains. In a post on X, the IDF on Thursday shared a video of the tunnel where Goldin's body was held. The IDF said that the tunnel runs beneath a densely populated Rafah neighbourhood and through a UNRWA compound, mosques, clinics, and kindergartens.
Foreign Handler Sent 42 BombMaking Videos to Delhi Doctor: Police
Delhi Police have uncovered a chilling terror plot linked to the 2000 Red Fort blast module, revealing that a foreign-based handler allegedly sent 42 bomb-making videos to a city-based doctor through encrypted messaging apps.
According to investigators, the suspect—who worked at a private hospital—was radicalised online over several months before being recruited into the terror network.
Sources said the handler contacted the doctor through multiple encrypted platforms, gradually gaining his trust and providing detailed instructions on assembling improvised explosive devices (IEDs). The videos included step-by-step demonstrations, chemical lists, circuit diagrams, and techniques to evade

detection. Police believe the handler is associated with a banned terror outfit and operated from a Middle Eastern country. The doctor allegedly conducted several online sessions to clarify doubts and even ordered certain components discreetly.
UK Immigration Overhaul And Its Impact on Indians
The UK is preparing its most sweeping immigration overhaul in decades, proposing significantly longer waits for permanent settlement. Under the plan, most legal migrants would need 10 years before qualifying, while those relying on state benefits could face a 20-year wait. Illegal migrants and overstayers may be required to wait up to 30 years.
The government says the model
Due to record-high levels of migration under the previous government, 1.6 million migrants are set to become eligible for settlement by 2030, and the move is expected to affect them all.
prioritises economic contribution and aims to ease pressure on public services. High-skilled workers, including NHS doctors and nurses, could settle in five years, while top earners and entrepreneurs may gain fast-tracked settlement in three.
Nearly two million migrants who arrived after 2021 would be affected once the rules take effect. Existing settled-status holders are exempt. A 12-week consultation will determine transitional arrangements.
Preliminary probe suggests he was being prepared to execute a targeted attack in Delhi, similar to the Red Fort module’s earlier operations.
The intelligence agencies intercepted suspicious online activity last month, leading to a covert surveillance operation. A raid on the doctor’s residence resulted in the seizure of electronic devices, notebooks filled with chemical formulas, and a partially assembled circuit. Forensic teams are analysing the recovered data.
Senior officials said the plot was in an advanced stage and could have caused “mass casualties” had it not been foiled in time. The doctor has been arrested under UAPA and Explosive Substances Act provisions. Efforts are underway to identify the foreign handler and dismantle the wider module.

Gujarat Man Deported from US After DUI Case
A man from Sangnpur village in Mahesana district has been deported from the United States following a DUI arrest in Boone County, Kentucky, in July 2025. According to information received by IamGujarat, the man, aged around 40, was placed on a deportation flight that landed in Delhi on November 19. The same flight reportedly brought back nearly 200 Indians, including several Gujaratis.
Arrested in the last week of July, the man had a long-standing drinking problem.
Though he held a valid driver’s licence, he was driving a commercial vehicle loaded with gaming machines while intoxicated. He had also jumped traffic signals, and police recovered an alcohol bottle from his vehicle. After a strong case was prepared, his custody was handed over to US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). He had been living in the US for nearly ten years with his
family, who hold legal status. However, community members said he had a history of repeated run-ins with the law and often evaded long-term jail time. Under the current administration’s strict immigration policies, his DUI offence became grounds for swift removal.
Following his arrest, he attempted several legal avenues for release, but after his final removal order was issued in mid-September, the court refused further hearings. He was transferred from Kentucky to Chicago, then to an ICE jail in Indiana, and finally to Louisiana before being placed on the deportation flight.
Sources say several Gujaratis involved in minor crimes are currently detained across US jails and may also face deportation in the coming weeks.

Anand Gandhi Says He Isn’t Involved in Tumbbad 2
Anand Gandhi, known for Ship Of Theseus and the cult hit Tumbbad, clarified in an interview that none of the original creators—including himself—are involved in Tumbbad 2. He said his earlier statement about being the film’s director was not sensational but an honest account of his long-documented creative contribution. Gandhi avoided commenting on how credited director Rahi Anil Barve or actor-producer Sohum Shah reacted, stressing that he wants truthful credit for all and dignity for everyone involved. On the sequel, he admitted it is hard to see it as a true continuation without the original team’s involvement. However, he hopes the new film respects the deep bond the first Tumbbad shares with its audience and honours the sentiments of fans who helped elevate it into a landmark of Indian cinema.

John Abraham Distances Himself
From Sajid Khan’s 100% A
public notice published on November 7, 2025, in Komal Nahta’s Film Information has confirmed that Jai Ho Media LLP has officially acquired the exclusive, perpetual, and worldwide rights to the upcoming Hindi film 100%, starring John Abraham, Riteish Deshmukh, and others. However, in a rare instance, John Abraham has come out with a public notice, distancing himself from 100%.
A notice published on November 22 in Atul Mohan’s Complete Cinema magazine by law firm Naik Naik & Co stated John Abraham is not associated in any capacity with a film titled 100 Percent. It stresses that he is a wellknown actor in the Indian film industry and that his name has been “wrongly mentioned and misrepresented” as part of the film’s star cast. The public note by the makers of 100% was also published in Complete Cinema on October 11 and 18, 2025 (Complete Cinema magazine was the first one to publish the notice), which appears as Annexure A beneath the new ad. That earlier notice, issued by ANM Global Inc, Advocates & Solicitors, announced that their client had acquired worldwide, perpetual rights to a Hindi film currently titled 100%. In its schedule, the notice listed John Abraham, Riteish Deshmukh and others as the “current star cast”, with Sajid Khan as director and Aakash Kaushik, Madhur Sharma and Rohan Shankar as writers.
John’s latest notice points out that, despite this mention, he has no connection with the film. It calls upon all concerned persons in the public and film trade to refrain from using his name or suggesting any association with 100 Percent in any manner whatsoever.
The legal communication further warns that any continued use of his name, or implication that he is involved with the project after the publication of this notice, will be treated as wilful and deliberate. Such misuse, it adds, will be considered actionable, with John Abraham reserving his full rights and remedies under law and equity against any offending parties.
Hirani Shares
Storytelling Wisdom at IFFI
Lights dimmed and anticipation filled the air at IFFI as audiences gathered for a masterclass that felt more like an energising creative session than a traditional workshop. When filmmaker Rajkumar Hirani arrived at the Kala Academy Hall, the atmosphere lifted instantly. By the end of the event, writers were jotting down ideas, editors were nodding in recognition, and cinephiles were visibly inspired. Hirani shared practical insights and clear principles that have shaped his career. “Writing is emotion imagined; editing is emotion experienced. The writer writes the first draft, the editor the last. Theme is the soul of a film, while conflict is its oxygen,” he said, setting the tone for his session titled “Film is Made on Two Tables — Writing and Editing.”

Explosive: Indian-American Diplomat Alleges 8990% H-1B Visas Issued to Indians were Fraudulent
Siddiqui questioned the long-standing argument that the United States faces a STEM talent shortage that requires large-scale recruitment from India. She alleged that 80–90% of visas issued to Indian applicants mostly H-1Bs were fraudulent, involving fake degrees, forged documents, or applicants who were not genuinely qualified for specialty-occupation jobs.
Zofeen Maqsood
Indian-American diplomat Mahvash Siddiqui has alleged extensive and systemic fraud within the H-1B visa program, claiming that a large share of work visas issued to Indian applicants were obtained through fraudulent means. The H-1B program allows U.S. employers to hire foreign skilled workers, and Indians make up the majority of its beneficiaries each year. Speaking on a recent podcast, Siddiqui shared her experiences from her tenure as a consular officer at the U.S. Consulate in Chennai between 2005 and 2007, a period when Chennai (Madras) was one of the world’s busiest H-1B-processing posts. She said her comments reflect her personal views, not those of the U.S. government. In 2024 alone, officials there processed roughly 220,000 H-1B visas and another 140,000 H-4 visas for dependents. Siddiqui questioned the long-standing argument that the United States faces a STEM talent shortage that requires large-scale recruitment from India. She alleged that 80–90% of visas issued to Indian applicants mostly H-1Bs were fraudulent, involving fake degrees, forged documents, or applicants who were not genuinely qualified for specialtyoccupation jobs.
According to Siddiqui, consular officers in Chennai detected the pattern of fraud early in her posting and reported it through a dissent cable to the Secretary of State. However, she claimed that “political pressure from the top” led senior officials to override their findings.
“We quickly learned about the fraud,” she said. “We wrote a dissent cable detailing the systematic issues we were uncovering. But due to political pressure, our adjudication was overturned.”
She also alleged that their internal effort to crack
down on fraudulent applications was labeled a “rogue operation,” and that politicians exerted significant pressure to halt the investigation—allegedly to avoid upsetting Indian political leaders.
Siddiqui said she personally adjudicated more than 51,000 nonimmigrant visas during her twoyear posting, the majority of them H-1Bs. Applications reviewed at the Chennai post came from Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Kerala, and Hyderabad, of which Hyderabad, she claimed, posed the “most concerning” patterns.
“As an Indian-American, I hate to say this, but fraud and bribery are normalized in India,” she said on the podcast.
Siddiqui alleged cases in which applicants skipped interviews when the adjudicating officer was American, proxy candidates appeared in their place, or Indian managers offered jobs in exchange for money.
Indians remain the largest recipients of H-1B visas, accounting for roughly 70% of approvals in 2024. Both H-1B and F-1 student visas have increasingly become flashpoints in U.S. immigration politics, especially among MAGA-aligned critics.
The Couple Behind Udaipur’s Ultra-Luxury Wedding: Meet Netra Mantena and Vamsi Gadiraju
Meet the Bride: Netra Mantena
Until recently, Netra Mantena kept a low profile, with private social media accounts and minimal public exposure. That changed overnight when her Udaipur wedding exploded across social media platforms, drawing attention not only from Indian publications but also international lifestyle, business, and entertainment media.
Netra is the daughter of Padmaja and Rama Raju Mantena, a prominent Orlando-based billionaire entrepreneur and the CEO of Ingenus Pharmaceuticals, which operates research and development hubs in the U.S., Switzerland, and India. Her family name alone carries significant weight in global business circles, adding another layer to the fascination around the celebration. Netra’s bridal dress -- a deep red Sabyasachi lehenga became instant Instagram material.
A lavish celebration in Udaipur has taken over American and Indian social media. At the center of this frenzy is the Indian American couple Netra Mantena and Vamsi Gadiraju, whose multi-day celebration filled with A-list guest appearances, cinematic décor, and choreography-perfect performances has become one of the internet’s most-watched wedding events of the year.

AAPI Celebrates First-Ever Ayurveda & Wellness Retreat in Iowa
Physicians Celebrate Ancient Traditions and Modern Healing at The Raj Resort
FAIRFIELD, IA -The American Association of Physicians of Indian Origin (AAPI) marked a significant milestone in November with its inaugural Ayurveda & Wellness Retreat, held at The Raj Resort and Maharishi International University (MIU) in Fairfield, Iowa.
The sold-out retreat, organized from November 12–16, 2025, brought together physicians and their families for an immersive experience that blended the ancient science of Ayurveda with contemporary medical understanding.
For AAPI—representing the largest body of Indian physicians outside India—the retreat served as a longawaited reconnection with India’s healing traditions.
“It’s remarkable that it took us this long to formally embrace Ayurveda, a tradition practiced here for
more than 30 years,” said AAPI President Dr. Amit Chakrabarty. “We are excited to finally bridge this gap and offer a curated, rejuvenating experience.”
Limited to 25 couples for individualized attention, the program featured authentic Ayurvedic therapies such as Abhyanga and Shirodhara, daily yoga, meditation, and Pranayama. Evenings came alive with Indian classical music and dance, while Satvik meals prepared by Indian chefs complemented the wellness experience.
“This retreat beautifully unites scientific rigor with ancient wisdom,” noted organizer Dr. Amit Shah.
A key focus was addressing stress and burnout among medical professionals.
Participants consulted with Ayurveda Vaidyas, explored Transcendental Meditation (TM)—endorsed by major medical associations—and attended talks
High-Profile Drug Bust Nets Arrests of Deepak Paradkar and Gursewak Singh
WASHINGTON, DC – The sweeping multinational cocaine-trafficking and murder case that placed former Canadian Olympian Ryan James Wedding on the FBI’s Ten Most Wanted list is increasingly centered on two Canadian figures: Toronto attorney Deepak Balwant Paradkar and crime-site operator Gursewak Singh Bal.
According to a nine-count U.S. federal indictment unsealed November 19, Paradkar and Bal played pivotal roles in a violent enterprise that moved tons of cocaine from Colombia through Mexico into the U.S. and Canada—and later plotted to kill a key federal witness.
Paradkar, 62, a prominent Toronto criminal lawyer, is accused of helping Wedding stabilize the operation after
U.S. agents intercepted major cocaine shipments in California. Prosecutors say he advised Wedding that killing the cooperating witness could cripple the case and then helped advance the plan, arranging lawyers for arrested couriers and sharing confidential court information to track the witness. The plot expanded across Canada, Colombia, and the U.S., relying on intermediaries to locate the witness, widely reported as Jonathan Acebedo Garcia. Prosecutors say Bal used his crime-focused website to publish the witness’s photo for payment—an act investigators call a crucial step that enabled associates worldwide to identify and hunt the target.
Acebedo Garcia was shot dead in a Medellin restaurant on January 31. A photo of his body was allegedly sent to confirm the hit to Wedding, believed to be hiding in Mexico under cartel protection. Ten suspects have been arrested and nineteen charged. The investigation—backed by the FBI, State Department, Treasury Department, RCMP, and Colombian National Police— remains active. The State Department is offering up to $15 million for information leading to Wedding’s capture and up to $2 million for leads on the assassins.
on longevity, vitality, and daily wellness routines. MIU faculty conducted CME-accredited sessions on Ayurveda’s consciousness-based approach, the principles of Vata, Pitta, and Kapha, and holistic strategies for inflammation and chronic disease management.
Cultural highlights included a classical music performance by Dr. Aarti Pandya and a Bharatanatyam recital by Rebecca, a TM therapist raised in Fairfield. Exclusive pricing, early demand, and enriching tours of MIU and The Raj’s Panchakarma facilities further elevated the experience.
With future programs already in development, AAPI’s Ayurveda & Wellness Retreat sets a new benchmark for integrative physician wellness in the United States.
Forbes Puts Vivek Ramaswamy on the Billionaire Map
WASHINGTON, DC – When billionaires draw scrutiny for wielding outsized influence in Washington — especially during the Trump era — a new spotlight has turned to Vivek Ramaswamy, whose personal fortune has surged even as he campaigns for governor of Ohio.
According to Forbes, Ramaswamy’s net worth has climbed to $1.8 billion, an 80 percent jump in just nine months. The increase has little to do with politics and everything to do with the longterm trajectory of his biotech ventures, a point Forbes underscores in its latest assessment of his finances. Ramaswamy launched his gubernatorial bid in February after stepping down from Trump’s Department of Government Efficiency in January. He
previously mounted a 2024 presidential run before withdrawing and endorsing Trump.
His wealth is rooted in Roivant Sciences, the pharmaceutical company he founded in 2014 after leaving hedge fund QVT. Roivant gained early attention in 2015 when its spinoff, Axovant, debuted with a $3 billion valuation—though the stock later collapsed after failed clinical trials. Still, Ramaswamy sold part of his Roivant stake and reported $37 million in capital gains that year.
A major boost came in 2019 when Roivant sold five subsidiaries and a 10 percent stake to Japan’s Sumitomo for $3 billion, valuing the company at $9 billion. Ramaswamy stepped down as CEO in 2021, becoming chairman as Roivant prepared to go public. His fortune spiked again in 2023 after Roivant sold its spinoff Telavant to Roche for $7.1 billion. Roivant’s stock jumped 34 percent by year’s end, instantly elevating Ramaswamy—who held tens of millions of shares—into billionaire status.
Beyond Roivant, Ramaswamy cofounded Chapter, a Medicare-navigation startup valued at $1.5 billion, giving him an estimated $100 million stake.

Border Patrol Surveillance Program Quetly Tracks American Drivers, Sparks Secret Detentions
HiIndia Newsdesk
WASHIINGTON, DC -The U.S. Border Patrol is quietly tracking millions of American drivers through a predictive surveillance program that flags people based on their travel patterns rather than criminal suspicion. A nationwide network of cameras captures vehicle license plates, and an algorithm analyzes where vehicles came from, where they are going, and whether their route appears “suspicious.”
Once flagged, federal agents often notify local police, who then pull drivers over for minor traffic violations such as speeding, tinted windows, or obstructed views. Most drivers have no idea the stop originated from federal surveillance. Originally intended to combat border-related crimes like drug and human trafficking, the program has expanded dramatically over the past decade. While Border Patrol traditionally operated along U.S. borders, its surveillance network now reaches far into the interior, monitoring traffic in major cities including Chicago, Detroit, Houston, Los Angeles, Phoenix and beyond. Some cameras are placed more than 120 miles from the border—well outside the agency’s typical jurisdiction—and are often concealed inside traffic barrels or labeled as road-safety equipment. Border Patrol has strengthened its reach by tapping into a vast web of license plate databases managed by the Drug Enforcement Administration, private companies, and local law enforcement agencies funded by federal grants. cases, Texas authorities have even asked agents to use facial recognition on drivers. CBP says the surveillance is governed by strict federal policy and used to disrupt criminal networks, but acknowledges it does not disclose operational details.
Civil liberties advocates warn that large-scale surveillance of drivers— especially absent specific warrants— raises serious Fourth Amendment concerns. Courts have traditionally
allowed collection of license plate data in public spaces, but scholars argue that massive, real-time datasets that track “patterns of life” may constitute unreasonable search and seizure. Case records reveal the surveillance often targets innocent people. In Texas, driver Lorenzo Gutierrez Lugo was pulled over after Border Patrol flagged his route. Police found no contraband but arrested him for carrying cash related to his legitimate
SAUGUS, MA – In an industry defined by rapid turnover and constant motion, Balbir Singh stands out as a symbol of extraordinary consistency. An immigrant who arrived in the United States in the early 1980s, Singh recently celebrated an impressive 40 years of service with McDonald’s—an achievement honored with a red carpet welcome and a grand, heartfelt ceremony. Singh began his journey at a McDonald’s in Saugus, MA, in 1985 as a kitchen crew member. From preparing food to handling cleaning duties, he mastered every aspect of restaurant operations. His dedication to the fundamentals not only sustained the fast-paced environment but also laid the foundation for a long and impactful career. While many cycle quickly through fast-food jobs, Singh remained a steady presence, earning the respect of colleagues and management alike. His commitment propelled him into leadership roles, and today he oversees four of the nine McDonald’s locations operated by franchise owner Lindsay Wallin’s family. Among coworkers, he is known affectionately as “Papa Bear,” a reflection of his patient mentorship and the supportive environment he fosters. His leadership style has made him not just a manager, but a guiding force within the restaurant community.
On November 17, Singh arrived at work in a limousine arranged by the Wallins, greeted by cheering employees waving pom-poms. The celebration concluded with a special “One in Eight” jacket and a $40,000 check—one thousand dollars for every year he has dedicated to the company. His story stands as a testament to loyalty, hard work, and the American dream.
business delivering goods for immigrant communities. Charges were later dropped, costing his employer over $20,000 in legal fees. Similar “whisper stops” occur when local police stop drivers based on secret tips from federal agents while obscuring the federal role in reports. Another driver, Alek Schott, was detained and searched for over an hour after traveling from Houston to a border-area town for work. Deputies found nothing. A sheriff’s deputy later testified that “nine times out of ten, this is what happens,” acknowledging most searches lead nowhere. Internal group chats show officers regularly exchanging license-plate-based intelligence and personal data of U.S. citizens.
Grants such as Operation Stonegarden allow Border Patrol to fund local agencies' equipment and overtime in exchange for feeding plate data into federal intelligence systems, deepening collaboration. Border Patrol has also expanded operations inland as border crossings have slowed, redirecting agents toward interior enforcement and mass-data monitoring. Critics argue the system criminalizes ordinary movement, disproportionately affects immigrant communities, and operates with little public oversight. As Schott warned, many who are stopped lack the resources to challenge the system: “For every person like me, there are thousands who just leave angry and never fight back.”
1M Ticket Sold at Cold Cut Express Still Unclaimed in Nassau
VALLEY STREAM, NY. —
For one lucky Valley Stream lottery player, time is running out to claim a $1 million prize — the winning ticket expires Dec. 13.
Valley Stream village officials confirmed that the village won’t receive any tax revenue from the winnings, even if the ticket is claimed.
According to the New York Lottery, the Valley Stream ticket was one of three $1 million winners sold on Dec. 13, 2023, along with winning tickets in California and Massachusetts. The ticket was purchased at Cold Cut Express on DuBois Avenue and matched five of the six numbers needed to win the full $695 million Mega Millions jackpot. The winning numbers were 36, 43, 52, 58 and 65, with a Mega Ball of 16.
Lottery winnings over $5,000 are subject to a 24 percent federal tax, according to tax experts. New York State also taxes lottery earnings, classifying winnings above $5,000 as taxable state income. NBC San Diego reported in August that New York’s top tax rate on lottery winnings is 10.9 percent, the highest of any state. Village officials reiterated that none of the tax revenue from the prize would flow to the municipality.
“Only the state — we don’t get anything from it,” a village official said. The lone New York Lottery Customer Service Center in Nassau County is located at 45 South Service Road in Plainview. The office can be reached at 516-222-8260.

Deepak Chopra Confirmed Meditation Sessions, Talks About Trump With Epstein
WASHINGTON, DC – Newly released records from the House Oversight Committee include email exchanges between Jeffrey Epstein and Deepak Chopra that reference Donald Trump. The correspondence appears among more than 20,000 pages of material from Epstein’s estate, made public by congressional lawmakers on November 19.
Chopra has not been accused of wrongdoing. The documents show the two were in contact in November 2016, when Epstein sent the New Age author a link to a news article about a woman who had filed—and later withdrawn—a civil lawsuit alleging that Trump and Epstein sexually assaulted her in 1994 when she was 13.
After reading the article, Chopra asked whether the woman had also dropped her allegations against Epstein. Epstein replied, “YuP,” to which Chopra responded, “Good.”
The files also include earlier correspondence from July 2016 in which Chopra asked Epstein for information about Marla Maples, Trump’s second wife. Although the purpose of the inquiry is unclear, Chopra described the exchange as confidential and told Epstein he trusted him.
Other messages show Epstein referring to Trump as “evil beyond belief.”

ongoing relationship between Chopra and Epstein, consisting primarily of emails and calendar entries from 2016 to 2019. The records reference discussions about Trump as well as possible collaborations on an app and a board game, and list more than a dozen planned meetings between the two.
Chopra has said the relationship began following an introduction by
Barnaby Marsh, then of the Templeton Foundation, who presented Epstein as a potential supporter of research on the brain and consciousness. According to Chopra, their meetings focused on meditation techniques to help Epstein with insomnia and typically lasted about 30 minutes.
In a statement responding to the document release, Chopra said he is mindful of doctor–patient confidentiality but supports full transparency, and is willing to share information with authorized investigators.
He said his interactions with Epstein were limited to meditation sessions and discussions about possible research funding, adding that clarity is needed to prevent unfounded speculation.
Krishnamoorthi Proposes Brand USA Revival Act
WASHINGTON, DC –Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-IL) has introduced the Brand USA Restoration Act, legislation aimed at restoring $80 million in federal funding for Brand USA, the nation’s public-private tourism partnership. The bill replenishes the Travel Promotion Fund to reverse drastic cuts made under the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act,” which reduced Brand USA’s federal match by 80 percent. Brand USA plays a pivotal role in promoting the United States to international travelers and supporting millions of jobs across the hospitality and tourism industries—an effort that becomes increasingly important as the nation prepares for major global events such as the America 250 celebrations and the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
“Restoring Brand USA’s funding is about protecting American jobs and strengthening our economy,” said Congressman
Krishnamoorthi. “When we attract visitors from around the world, we support American workers, small businesses, and communities in every state. This bill ensures that the United States continues to compete globally and remains a top destination for international travel.”
The legislation has received strong backing from the Asian American Hotel Owners Association (AAHOA), which represents thousands of hotel owners nationwide.
“Restoring full funding to Brand USA was a top priority at our Fall National Advocacy Conference because this is about keeping international travelers coming to the United States and protecting our members’ businesses,” said AAHOA Chairman Kamalesh (KP) Patel. “Brand USA has generated $140 billion in economic impact and supported over 300,000 American jobs, yet recent funding cuts threaten to slow this momentum. Ensuring full funding is critical to sustaining hotel occupancy, supporting communities, and keeping America competitive in the global travel market.”
AAHOA President & CEO Laura Lee Blake added: “Restoring Brand USA’s full funding is exactly what we were advocating for at our Fall National Advocacy Conference. Brand USA drives millions of international travelers to the U.S., generating tens of billions of dollars in visitor spending and supporting hundreds of thousands of jobs. For AAHOA members—who own over 60 percent of U.S. hotels—this funding is a major step forward. Every single dollar invested in Brand USA generates $20 in visitor spending. We thank Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi for championing this effort and helping America remain fiercely competitive in the global travel market.”
Dr. Rohit Loomba Named UCSD Liver Chair
LA JOLLA, CA—UC San Diego has appointed Dr. Rohit Loomba as the inaugural holder of the John C. Martin Endowed Chair in Liver Disease, established by the John C. Martin Foundation to advance research on population-based risk factors for liver disease.
Loomba, Professor of Medicine and Chief of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at UCSD, is a leading hepatologist and founding director of the university’s MASLD Research Center. He pioneered MRI-PDFF, a noninvasive biomarker now used in 100+ global clinical trials to measure liver fat and guide new therapies for conditions such as MASH.
“This endowed chair allows us to research and develop new cures and novel treatment options for digestive diseases,” said Loomba.
The chair honors John C. Martin, former chairman and CEO of Gilead Sciences, who led breakthroughs in treatments for HIV and hepatitis. “It is an honor to support Rohit Loomba,” said Lillian Lou, president of the foundation.
Chancellor Pradeep K. Khosla called the appointment fitting, noting both Loomba and Martin shared a global mission to improve patient care.
Loomba previously trained at Armed Forces Medical College, Pune; St. Luke’s Hospital, St. Louis; and the NIH, where he also earned a master’s in clinical research before joining UC San Diego.
Judge Strikes Down USCIS EB-5 Fee Hike
In a significant legal setback for U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), on November 12, a federal judge in Colorado has struck down the steep 2024 fee increases the agency announced for the EB-5 Immigrant Investor Program. The decision prompted USCIS to immediately roll back the fees to their pre-2024 levels. The ruling has been hailed as a major victory for EB-5 investors.“I’m not sure if the EB-5 case has any bearing on the H-1B tax case, but it’s another signal that judges are looking skeptically at many of the immigration policies being pushed out using shortcuts that don’t comply with a number of legal requirements and they are basing the policy changes on highly questionable legal theories,” prominent Immigration attorney Greg Siskind, one of the cocounsels in “Global Nurse Force v. Trump,”

Indian National Charged in Cold Case Murder of Mother and Child in New Jersey
MAPLE SHADE, NJ — An Indian man is being held responsible for the deadly 2017 stabbing of a mother and her son inside a Burlington County apartment after investigators say DNA evidence taken from his company-issued laptop linked him to a blood sample found at the crime scene.
Eight years after a mother and son were found fatally stabbed inside their Maple Shade apartment, their suspected killer has been charged. Sasikala Narra, 38, and her 6-yearold son, Anish, were stabbed to death on March 23, 2017, at the Fox Meadows Apartments on Route 73 in Maple Shade.
On Tuesday, Burlington County Prosecutor's Office Chief of Detectives Patrick Thornton announced two counts of firstdegree murder against Nazeer Hameed.
At the time of the killings, Hameed was employed by Cognizant Technology Solutions in Teaneck and was a friend and co-worker of Hanumantha Narra, the victims’ husband and father. Officials said Hameed had been stalking Hanumantha. He returned to India in September 2017.
Detective Brian Cunningham said Narra discovered the bodies after returning home from work. A single drop of blood that did not belong to the victims ultimately led investigators to Hameed.
Detective Brian Cunningham said Narra discovered the bodies after returning home from work. A single drop of blood that did not belong to the victims ultimately led investigators to Hameed.
“This investigation included countless interviews, extensive reviews of financial and cellphone records, rideshare data, and advanced
geolocation analysis to track digital footprints,” Cunningham said. Hameed lived in the same apartment complex and did not drive. Investigators say his strong technology background enabled him to conceal his movements. He declined requests to provide a DNA sample, and the Indian government rejected a courtordered request through mutual legal assistance. “We worked with the Department of Justice to explore charging Hameed with other crimes to extradite him and obtain a DNA sample. Unfortunately, nothing met the threshold except criminal homicide,” Cunningham said. In 2024, investigators obtained a warrant to seize Hameed’s companyissued laptop from Cognizant. The device was processed by the New
Jersey State Police lab, which matched DNA to Hameed.
Maple Shade Police Chief Christopher Fletcher said the case was never considered cold and that new leads ultimately led to charges.
“Our commitment to justice for Sasikala and Anish never wavered. Two photos hang in our detective bureau—one of them together, and one of Anish at school—to remind investigators every day of the responsibility to solve this terrible crime,” Fletcher said.
Prosecutor Lachia Bradshaw urged U.S. and Indian authorities to act swiftly to extradite Hameed.
“The passage of time does not diminish the gravity of these crimes nor lessen our resolve. No border, distance, or delay should stand in the way of justice,” Bradshaw said. “The people of Burlington County deserve closure, and these silenced victims deserve their day in court.”
Hameed is also charged with two counts of third-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and fourth-degree unlawful possession of a weapon. A motive has not been determined. Anyone with information about Hameed is asked to contact the Prosecutor’s Office at 609-2655035.
Afghan National Sentenced to 15 Years for Plotting Election Day Terror Attack in U.S.
WASHINGTON, DC - Abdullah
Haji Zada, 19, a native and citizen of Afghanistan and a U.S. lawful permanent resident, has been sentenced to the statutory maximum of 15 years in federal prison for receiving, attempting to receive, and conspiring to receive firearms and ammunition intended for use in a federal crime of terrorism.
According to court documents, Zada and co-conspirator Nasir Ahmad Tawhedi, 28, also a citizen of Afghanistan, acquired two AK-47-style rifles and 500 rounds of ammunition knowing the weapons would be used in a terrorist attack planned for Election Day in November 2024 on behalf of the Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham (ISIS), a designated foreign terrorist organization. The pair was arrested in October 2024.
“Zada was welcomed into the United States yet chose to embrace terrorism and plot an ISIS-inspired attack on Election Day,” said Assistant Attorney General for National Security John A. Eisenberg. “Today’s sentence, and Zada’s eventual removal, reflect the seriousness of his betrayal and our commitment to disrupting such plots.”

Zada, arrested at age 17, pleaded guilty as an adult on April 17, 2025. Under the plea agreement, he consented to a judicial order of removal to Afghanistan after serving his sentence, terminating his lawful permanent resident status and waiving rights to appeal, seek asylum, or pursue other immigration relief.
of the FBI’s Counterterrorism Division said the sentencing ensures accountability for a plot aimed at an Election Day attack. “The FBI will continue to work with law enforcement partners to protect our communities.”
U.S. Attorney Robert J. Troester for the Western District of Oklahoma added that the punishment reflects the gravity of the planned attack and the vigilance required to prevent terrorism.
FBI Oklahoma City Special Agent in Charge Doug Goodwater stated that Zada and Tawhedi “turned their backs
on the country that provided them safety and refuge,” praising swift action by the Joint Terrorism Task Force in foiling the plot.

Chicago Activists Say Immigration Crackdown Still Traumatizing Residents
HiIndia Newsdesk
CHICAGO, IL - Chicago is navigating a tense climate amid a continued immigration crackdown launched during the Trump administration. Despite a recent leadership change— Border Patrol commander Gregory Bovino moving to a new post in North Carolina—federal agents remain active across the city and surrounding suburbs. Arrests have declined from a peak of 142 per day to roughly six, yet anxiety persists in immigrant-dense neighborhoods like Pilsen. “I feel a sense of paranoia over when they might be back,” said local resident Santani Silva.
Bovino’s tenure marked an escalation in enforcement tactics, including unmarked vehicle sweeps and aerial surveillance to detain suspected immigration violators. Activists say the reduced arrest rate does little to ease concerns. “It’s not over. I don’t think it will be over,” said Brandon Lee of the Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights.

Trump’s “Death” Comment Under Fire — Jayapal, Thanedar, Raja Raise Alarm in Joint Statement
HiIndia Newsdesk
WASHINGTON, DC – President Donald Trump’s online tirade and latest outburst—calling for the death penalty for Democratic lawmakers who appeared in a video urging military and intelligence personnel to refuse illegal orders—is not only raising alarms but triggering pushback from even his most loyal supporters.
In a political climate still scarred by the violence of January 6, Trump has done little to tamp down the anger he and others helped unleash. Now, the backlash is coming from inside his own party.
Trump accused six Democratic lawmakers of “seditious behavior” and reposted a supporter’s demand that they be hanged, insisting their actions were punishable by death. The lawmakers— all veterans of the military or national security community—released a video urging current personnel to uphold the Constitution above any unlawful command. Trump labeled the message treasonous.
The reaction was swift.
US Sues California Over Mask Ban, ID Rules
WASHINGTON, DC -The Department of Justice has filed a lawsuit against California, Governor Gavin Newsom, and Attorney General Robert Bonta over the unconstitutional “No Secret Police Act” and “No Vigilantes Act,” which attempt to regulate federal law enforcement officers.
According to the complaint, these laws unlawfully target federal operations and endanger officers amid rising harassment, doxxing, and violence. By threatening prosecution for protecting their identities, the laws hinder federal enforcement and jeopardize sensitive operations.
“Law enforcement officers risk their lives every day, and they should not be harassed or doxed for doing their jobs,” said Attorney General Pamela Bondi. “California’s policies are discriminatory and dangerous. These laws cannot stand.”
Assistant Attorney General Brett A. Shumate added that DOJ will “steadfastly protect the privacy and safety” of federal officers. First Assistant U.S. Attorney Bill Essayli warned that assaults on agents have surged, fueled by political rhetoric, and that unconstitutional state laws only increase the danger.
This lawsuit follows Attorney General Bondi’s directive to challenge state and local policies that obstruct federal law enforcement, adding California to actions already taken against New York, New Jersey, and Los Angeles.
called for her execution. She warned that Trump’s escalation once again puts lawmakers’ lives at risk.
Republican who claims to care about our Constitution must condemn these dangerous threats immediately.”
Some Republicans did.
Senator Lindsey Graham, one of Trump's most reliable allies, said the comments were “over the top.” Senator Rand Paul warned that talk of executing political opponents has no place in American politics.
Prominent conservative legal figures also pushed back. Andy McCarthy said Trump’s claims have no basis in law and emphasized that refusing illegal orders is required, not seditious. Ed Whelan echoed the argument.
defended Trump’s language as “frankness,” insisting he was not literally calling for executions.
Representative Pramila Jayapal (DWA), who has previously faced violent threats, said Trump’s rhetoric is part of a dangerous pattern, recalling an incident last year when an Arizona Republican
Representative Shri Thanedar (D-MI) called the comments “unhinged,” saying he no longer wants to hear claims from Trump supporters that they oppose political violence. Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-IL) added, “The President is calling for the arrest, and even the execution, of his political opponents. That’s authoritarian rhetoric, full stop. Every
Cook County Releases Assessment on Behavioral Health Crisis Care System
BRIDGEVIEW, IL - The Cook County Department of Public Health (CCDPH) and the Cook County Justice Advisory Council (JAC) have released Community and Provider Voices: Strengths and Opportunities in the Suburban Cook County Crisis Care System, a new assessment based on feedback from community members and service providers.
The report shows increased use of the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, with one in three respondents using 988 or local crisis services such as Living Rooms and Mobile Crisis Teams. However, 55% still turned to 911 or emergency rooms, signaling a need for greater awareness and accessibility of 988 services.
To boost 988 utilization, the report recommends expanding outreach through trusted community partners, investing in paid digital and targeted marketing, improving culturally responsive care, strengthening coordination among providers, and building ongoing aftercare and followup support.
“Investing in mental health is essential to building safe, thriving communities,” said Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle. “There’s a great opportunity to increase awareness of 9-8-8 so residents receive compassionate support when they need it most.”
“While people are using crisis services,
too many still rely on 911 or ERs,” said Dr. Erik Mikaitis, CEO, Cook County Health. “With 988 and communitybased crisis care, we’re building new pathways to help people get the right care, at the right time.”
Cook County invests over $18 million in community mental health organizations supporting 988 and crisis services, including Pillars, Kenneth Young Center, NAMI Metro Suburban, NAMI Chicago, Thrive Counseling Centers, Ada Mckinley, C4, Leyden Family Services, Metropolitan Family Services, and Envision Unlimited.
Despite statewide progress since Illinois launched 988 in 2022 and expanded Mobile Crisis Response Teams and Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinics, many suburban residents still report limited awareness of 988.
CCDPH says crisis response must be seen as part of a continuum of care, requiring coordinated partnerships to prevent repeat crises, address social determinants of health, and ensure equitable access across all regions.
The full report, Community and Provider Voices: Strengths and Opportunities in the Suburban Cook County Crisis Care System, is available here: BH Crisis Response System Report – NOV 2025.
The White House struggled to contain the fallout. Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt defended Trump’s language as “frankness,” insisting he was not literally calling for executions. She argued that the lawmakers’ video encouraged defiance of the administration.
Meanwhile, the six lawmakers at the center of Trump’s attack issued a joint statement saying they “will not be intimidated.” They stressed that their oath is to the Constitution—not any individual leader.

November is Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month
Pancreatic cancer remains one of the most lethal cancers worldwide. More than 67,000 Americans receive this diagnosis each year, and most die from it. Almost all cases begin in the ducts of the pancreas, and these tumors are called adenocarcinomas. In the United States, pancreatic cancer ranks among the top causes of cancerrelated death in both men and women. Globally, it is the sixth leading cause of cancer death. Rates are highest in high-income regions such as North America, Western and Central Europe, and high-income Asia Pacific. Rates are lowest in South Asia and parts of Sub-Saharan Africa.
Pancreatic cancer is generally uncommon before age 45. Incidence rises steadily with age. In men, it peaks between 65 and 69 years. In women, it peaks between 75 and 79 years of age. Despite the seriousness of this disease, population screening is not available. The pancreas sits deep in the abdomen. Tumors stay small for long periods. No validated biomarker exists for early detection in average-risk individuals. Blood tests and imaging have not shown reliable performance when offered widely. Screening works only when a test detects disease early with accuracy, safety, and reasonable cost. Pancreatic cancer does not meet these standards with current tools. If effective early detection arrives in the future, the impact will be enormous. Late

detection remains the main driver of the high mortality.
Symptoms tend to appear late. Weight loss, back pain, early satiety, changes in bowel habits, and new onset of diabetes develop slowly. Jaundice often arrives suddenly when the tumor blocks the bile duct. This is frequently the first clear sign. At that stage, the cancer usually exceeds the boundaries of safe surgery. This silent progression explains its reputation. For many years, a diagnosis suggested a limited timeline. Surgery offered the only chance for prolonged survival, yet only a minority reached that point.
The outlook shifted when modern chemotherapy became standard. Regimens such as modified FOLFIRINOX and gemcitabine with nab paclitaxel produced longer survival and meaningful responses. Neoadjuvant
Cook County Becomes First U.S. County to Fund Guaranteed Income Permanently
CHICAGO, IL – With the passage of its 2026 budget, Cook County will become the first county in the nation to establish a permanent guaranteed income program. This $7.5 million annual investment will make it the largest permanent county-level guaranteed income program in the United States, arriving at a critical moment as families face rising costs of living and deep federal funding cuts. ESIL is proud to partner with Cook County on this initiative, and ESIL Director Sarah Saheb continues to serve as a key leader on the program’s advisory committee. “With working families struggling to afford daily life, Cook County is taking bold action to put money directly back in their pockets,” said ESIL
Director Sarah Saheb. “The County’s guaranteed income pilot was a historic success, helping families meet essential needs like groceries, childcare, and transportation. We are thrilled to see President Preckwinkle make this program permanent and look forward to continuing our partnership to ensure even more families can benefit.”
Launched in 2022, the first phase—The Cook County Promise Guaranteed Income Pilot—was the largest publicly funded guaranteed income program in the nation. Funded with $42 million from the American Rescue Plan Act, the two-year pilot provided no-stringsattached monthly payments of $500 to 3,250 households. Final payments were issued in January 2025.
chemotherapy moved borderline tumors toward possible resection. Outcomes improved. Tumors shrank. More patients reached surgery. Pathologic responses became stronger. A disease once defined by despair began to move toward a more predictable and structured treatment path. The tunnel that once appeared dark now shows a light. Molecular oncology strengthened this progress. Sequencing revealed frequent KRAS mutations that drive tumor growth. KRAS resisted drug development for decades. New science challenged that belief. Daraxonrasib emerged as an oral small-molecule that binds the active form of RAS and blocks its signalling. Early-phase trials in previously treated metastatic pancreatic cancer produced objective responses, durable control, and progression-free survival that exceeded historical second-
line results. Benefits were observed in patients with KRAS G12X and other RAS mutations, which together represent the majority of pancreatic cancers.
Those patients who have undergone treatment for this disease also need genetic testing through a genetic counsellor. There is a small percentage of patients who clearly have a genetic predisposition to the disease. If the patient does have the genetic abnormality, the rest of the immediate family members need to be tested as well.
Reported side effects reflected the drug’s targeted action. Rash, diarrhea, nausea, mouth soreness, fatigue, cytopenias, and mild liver enzyme elevations were common. Dose adjustments occurred frequently. Permanent discontinuation remained uncommon. The overall safety profile supported ongoing development. This progress marks a turning point. For the first time, a targeted therapy shows broad activity across multiple KRAS variants. The following steps include randomized trials, combination approaches, and earlier use in the disease course. If meaningful early detection eventually joins these advances, the future of pancreatic cancer will look very different from its past. The future of dealing with this disease seems bright. Screening for this disease is under study and remains a challenge at present.
Businesses Close in Charlotte Amid Spike in Immigration Arrests
CHARLOTTE, N.C. —After a weekend immigration sweep in Charlotte dubbed “Operation Charlotte’s Web,” more than 130 people have been arrested, prompting widespread fear among Latino residents and business owners.
U.S. citizens like Jonathan Ocampo say they now carry passports everywhere, worried they or family members may be targeted.
Despite rumors of upcoming actions in Raleigh, federal officials said operations remain focused on Charlotte. Reports of Border Patrol agents stopping people outside businesses, churches, community centers, and stores have led several Latino-owned shops to close temporarily.
One incident involved agents shattering the car window of a Honduran-born U.S. citizen, Willy Aceituno, who recorded the encounter. Advocacy groups say the
arrests include workers at stores, church volunteers, and day laborers, calling the actions racial profiling and community intimidation rather than public-safety efforts. DHS says those arrested violated immigration laws and that some had prior criminal records.
Some detainees have already been sent to the Stewart Detention Center in Georgia, with more transfers expected due to overcrowding. Lawyers say the remote location makes obtaining legal counsel difficult.
Local fear is so severe that churches have reported half-empty services and some businesses closed for safety concerns. Even Martha White, granddaughter of Charlotte’s Web author E.B. White, criticized using the book’s title for an enforcement operation, saying her grandfather would not have condoned fearmongering or masked raids.

India Seeks Balanced Academic Mobility With U.S., Says Vinay Kwatra
“We would welcome you with open arms,” he said, inviting U.S. scholars to explore India’s growing landscape for study, innovation, and fellowship programs.
BETHLEHEM, PA- India’s Ambassador to the United States, Vinay Mohan Kwatra, underscored education, technology, and trust as foundational pillars of the India–U.S. partnership during a visit to Lehigh University, emphasizing that these areas are driving bilateral cooperation into a new era. More than 130 students, faculty, and community members attended a fireside conversation featuring Kwatra and former U.S. Ambassador to India Richard Verma, a Lehigh alumnus. The event was part of the Ambassadorial Speaker Series organized by the Lehigh University–United Nations Partnership.
Kwatra described India as a nation propelled by rapid transformation and bold ambition.
“When you land in India, the sights, smells, sounds—everything is overwhelming—but you will find a country full of robust energy,” he said. “There is a hunger, a drive, an ambition to really position India among the top countries in the world.”
Highlighting education as a key connector between the two nations, Kwatra noted that nearly 400,000 Indian students are currently studying in the United States and encouraged more
Americans to pursue academic and research opportunities in India.
“We would welcome you with open arms,” he said, inviting U.S. scholars to explore India’s growing landscape for study, innovation, and fellowship programs.
Lehigh’s ties to India span nearly seven decades, and India remains among its top countries of origin for international students. The university maintains partnerships with institutions including Ashoka University, IIT Bombay, IIT Kharagpur, and OP Jindal Global University, supporting student exchanges, research collaborations, and programs such as the Global Social Impact Fellowship and the Humanitarian Design and Social Enterprise initiative. Kwatra also pointed to expanding cooperation in defense, emerging technologies, artificial intelligence, semiconductors, and clean energy, calling the Indian diaspora a “living bridge” that strengthens people-to-people and institutional ties. He reiterated India’s long-term aspiration of becoming a developed economy by 2047, marking 100 years of independence.
Siddhartha Patel: The FBI Agent at the Center of California’s Wiretap Alerts
SACRAMENTO, CA — California’s political establishment is reeling from an unusual and unsettling development: dozens of political insiders have received official letters from the FBI confirming that their electronic communications were swept up in a federal corruption investigation.
The notices, signed by Siddhartha Patel, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI’s Sacramento Field Office, stem from a case involving longtime Democratic operative Dana Williamson and two associates. Williamson—who previously served as chief of staff to Governor Gavin Newsom—is accused of diverting $225,000 from a state campaign account and disguising $1 million in personal luxury spending as business expenses. She has pleaded not guilty.
The correspondence, which has reached current and former members of the Newsom administration, fulfills a legal requirement under the 1968 Federal Wiretap Act. Federal authorities are required to alert any individual whose
private communications were intercepted during a wiretap once surveillance concludes.
In the letters, Patel emphasizes the narrow intent of the notification, noting that it “does not necessarily mean you were the target of the investigation or that any criminal action will be taken against you.” The purpose, he explains, is simply to inform recipients that some of their communications “may have been intercepted” as part of the probe. Governor Newsom’s office confirmed the governor did not receive a letter.
Patel, who now leads federal law enforcement operations in California’s capital, brings a long and distinguished career to the role. He joined the FBI in 2003 as a special agent in the San
CBP Nabs US Citizen Wanted for Assault
LEWISTON, N.Y. – U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Port of Buffalo’s Lewiston Bridge border crossing arrested a U.S. citizen who was wanted on an active warrant out of Alexandria, Virginia.
On November 18, CBP officers encountered Nejat Assad, a 62-year-old Virginia resident, as he returned from a trip to Canada. During the primary inspection, officers received a National Crime Information Center (NCIC) alert indicating that Assad was the subject of an active arrest warrant. He was escorted to secondary inspection, where officers verified his identity and confirmed he was wanted by the Fairfax County Police Department on a felony aggravated assault charge.
“As a result of the diligent work and dedication of our officers, we were able to identify and apprehend an individual with an outstanding warrant for aggravated assault out of Virginia,” said Acting Area Port Director Sharon Swiatek. “This arrest underscores our commitment to ensuring the safety and security of our communities by identifying and intercepting individuals who pose a threat to public safety.”
After confirming the warrant, CBP officers turned Assad over to the New York State Police as a fugitive from justice for extradition to Virginia.
Racist Slur ‘Pajeet’ Spreads Online
Francisco Field Office, investigating domestic terrorism, human trafficking, and civil rights cases.
In 2007, Patel transitioned to the Los Angeles Field Office with a focus on international terrorism, including a deployment supporting the investigation of the 2008 Mumbai attacks. His expertise led to a headquarters assignment in Washington, D.C., in 2012, where he oversaw overseas counterterrorism operations in high-risk regions such as Iraq and Syria. Patel returned to Los Angeles in 2014 as a supervisory special agent and soon took on some of the nation’s highest-profile investigations. He served as the lead supervisory agent in the probe of the 2015 San Bernardino terrorist attack and was deployed to assist following the 2017 mass shooting in Las Vegas. A graduate of Carnegie Mellon University, where he earned both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees, Patel now applies his academic training and extensive field experience to overseeing major federal investigations across the Sacramento region.
“Pajeet,” a slur rooted in far-right online culture, has gained traction amid the H-1B visa backlash and rising political hostility toward Indian immigrants in the U.S.
In September, shortly after President Trump announced a staggering $100,000 fee for new H-1B visa applicants, a disturbing trend surfaced on 4Chan, an anonymous imageboard forum with scant moderation.
Some users urged Americans to stop Indian H-1B workers who were traveling abroad from returning to the United States before the fee deadline by launching a “Clog the Toilet” campaign — flooding airlines with fake bookings.
