United States: Deputy FBI director Dan Bongino, a for mer r ig ht-wing p o dcaster, announced on Wednesday that he would step down in January after less than 10 months on the job. The 51-yearold Bongino, in a post on X announcing his resignation, did not give a reason for the move.

But President Donald Trump said he believes Bongino wants to return to his popular podcast. "Dan did a great job," Trump told reporters. "I think he wants to go back to his show."Bongino had a law enforcement background before joining the Federal Bureau of Investigation -- he served as a New York police officer and Secret Service agent -but his appointment was unusual in that the FBI's number two job is traditionally held by a career employee.

His brief tenure at the FBI, which began in March, was marked by reports of tensions with Attorney General Pam Bondi.

In his X post, Bongino thanked Trump, Bondi and FBI Director Kash Patel "for the opportunity to serve with purpose."

Authorities launch homicide investigation after MIT plasma science chief is shot at Brookline home no arrests yet campus offers support to faculty students and staff

he authorities said on Tuesday that they had opened a homicide investigation after a professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology was fatally shot at his home in Brookline, Massachusetts.

The professor, Nuno F.G. Loureiro, 47, was a member of the departments of nuclear science and engineering and physics, as well as the director of MIT’s Plasma Science and Fusion Centre, the school said.

The Norfolk County District Attorney’s Office said the police responded on Monday night after receiving a report of a man shot at his home. The office said that Dr Loureiro was brought to a hospital with gunshot wounds, and that he was pronounced dead on Tuesday morning.

“This is an active and ongoing homicide investigation,” the district attorney’s office said in a statement.

President Trump's address came as his popularity has dipped over his handling of the economy.

US President Donald Trump on Thursday outlined his vision to make America “stronger than ever” in a televised national address, sharply criticising the previous Biden administration and defending his own record amid slipping approval ratings over the economy. Trump said he inherited an economic “mess,” blaming Democrats for the highest inflation in decades, rising prices, and declining affordability. He accused the earlier administration of leaving the southern border open, claiming millions of criminals and gang members entered the country. Trump asserted that over the past seven months, “zero illegal aliens” have been allowed into the US, calling it an unprecedented achievement.

He said his government reversed “the worst trade deals ever,” restored global respect for the US, and delivered more change in 11 months than any administration in history. Trump highlighted deportations, action against drug cartels, and efforts to make major cities safer.

Claiming major foreign policy successes, Trump said he strengthened the US military, settled multiple wars, neutralised Iran’s nuclear threat, and ended the Gaza conflict.

He also announced $18 trillion in new investment, crediting tariffs for driving companies to build in America.

Four Republicans have joined Democrats in the US House of Representatives in a last-ditch effort to extend healthcare subsidies used by millions of Americans that are set to expire at the end of the year.

Enough House members on Wednesday had signed a petition to bring a measure extending the subsidies to a vote, but it has yet to be scheduled. Even if the House approves the measure, it faces an uncertain future in the Senate.

Lawmakers, too, may not move quickly enough to avoid the expiration of the subsidies, and an accompanying rise in premiums for millions.

Asim Munir's US Challenge As Trump Pushes Pakistan To Send Troops To Gaza HiIndia Newsdesk

Field Marshal Asim Munir, Pakistan’s most powerful military leader, is facing a major political and strategic test as the United States pressures Islamabad to contribute troops to a proposed Gaza stabilisation force.

According to experts, Munir is caught in a dilemma: sending Pakistani soldiers could avoid angering US President Donald Trump but risks triggering a fierce domestic backlash, while refusing may strain ties with Washington.

Reuters reports that Munir is expected to visit Washington soon for talks with Trump, marking their third meeting in six months. The discussions are likely to focus on Trump’s proposed 20-point Gaza plan, which envisions troops from Muslim-majority countries overseeing Gaza during a transition period after Israeli forces withdraw, enabling reconstruction and economic recovery following more than two years of war between

But the big concern at home is that the involvement of Pakistani troops in Gaza under a US-backed plan could reignite protests from Pakistan's Islamist parties that are deeply opposed to the US and Israel.

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese says his government will crack down on hate speech following Sunday's deadly shooting at Bondi Beach that targeted a Jewish festival.

Fifteen people were killed when two gunmen opened fire at an event to mark the first day of Hanukkah.New laws will target "those who spread hate, division and radicalisation", Albanese told reporters in Canberra.

Policymakers at the Bank of England are expected to cut interest rates - bringing the Bank rate down to its lowest level since February 2023.

Analysts are widely predicting a fall from 4% to 3.75%, although they do not expect a unanimous decision among the nine-member Monetary Policy Committee (MPC).This would be the sixth cut in interest rates from August last year.The Bank rate heavily influences the cost of borrowing by consumers, but also the returns given to savers.

The MPC has a target to keep inflation - which charts the rising cost of living - to 2%. The Bank rate is the committee's primary tool for achieving its ambition.

The European Commission has watered down its plans to ban the sale of new petrol and diesel vehicles by 2035. Current rules state that new vehicles sold from that date should be "zero emission", but carmakers, particularly in Germany, have lobbied heavily for concessions. Spain is to set up a national network of climate shelters in public buildings to offer people refuge from intense heat before next summer, its prime minister has announced. The move was announced as Pedro Sanchez laid out a plan to address the impact of climate change during a conference in Madrid on Wednesday. "Devastating droughts and heatwaves are no longer rare. LAGUNA BEACH, CA - A 60-yearold woman of Indian origin, Babblejit “Bubbly” Kaur, was taken into custody

by US immigration authorities during what her family says was the final stage of her green card process, sparking concern and outrage within the local community.

Kaur, who has lived in the United States since 1994, was detained on December 1 while attending a biometric scan appointment related to her pending green card application.

According to her daughter, Joti, the incident occurred at a US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) office, where several federal agents entered the building shortly after Kaur arrived.

Joti said her mother was called into a room where the agents were present and informed that she was being arrested. Although Kaur was allowed

to speak briefly with her attorney over the phone, she was not released and remained in federal custody.

For several hours, the family was unaware of her whereabouts. They later learned that Kaur had been transferred overnight to Adelanto, a former federal prison in California that now operates

as an ICE detention facility, where she continues to be held.

According to the family, Kaur has an approved green card petition filed by her elder daughter, a US citizen. Her husband is also a lawful permanent resident. Despite this, she was detained as her application process was nearing

completion.

After migrating to the US, Kaur and her family initially lived in Laguna Beach before settling in Long Beach’s Belmont Shore neighbourhood. She and her husband raised three children—Joti, 34, who has legal status under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) programme, and two other children who are US citizens.

For more than 20 years, Kaur and her husband ran the popular Indian and Nepalese restaurant Natraj Cuisine of India and Nepal, which became a well-known fixture in the Belmont Shore community. She also worked for nearly 25 years at a Rite Aid store in the same area until the pharmacy chain shut down its remaining outlets earlier this year. More recently, she had been preparing to return to work in the restaurant industry.

New Delhi / Ahmedabad: Amid ongoing deportations of Gujaratis from the United States for immigration violations, one man narrowly avoided removal despite completing a jail sentence and facing a final deportation order, in a dramatic last-minute turn of events.

According to I Am Gujarat, the 40-year-old had been sentenced in 2023 after pleading guilty to immigration fraud connected to arranging fake robberies for U Visa applications. His deportation to India was reportedly finalized, and he was taken to the airport to board a removal flight to Delhi. However, authorities halted the process just before boarding. Sources suggest the delay was due to the non-availability of an emergency travel certificate or other procedural/

documentation issues. He has since been released and is currently living with his family in a major US city.

The accused allegedly orchestrated at least four fake robberies in a single US state and assisted undocumented immigrants in obtaining U Visas. He also reportedly arranged illegal driver’s licences and operated a wide network of associates across multiple states with sizable Gujarati populations. Multiple sources claim he charged thousands of

dollars per service. Following his arrest, the FBI raided his residence, seizing large amounts of cash and over three kilograms of gold. The court denied bail citing flight risk. After pleading guilty, he was sentenced for immigration fraud, ordered to repay defrauded funds, and placed on supervised release, having already served more time in jail than the sentence required.

Originally from a major city in Gujarat, he overstayed a visitor visa over a decade ago and helped several family members gain legal status, including green cards. While many undocumented Gujaratis work low-paying jobs, he reportedly amassed significant wealth through investments in properties and businesses in both India and the US. ndian American stylist Suhail Kwatra, once a prominent insider in Boston’s elite fashion circles, is now facing serious criminal charges after allegedly stealing $429,400 from luxury retailer Saks Fifth Avenue through what prosecutors describe as an elaborate returns scheme.

Based in Boston, the 43-year-old Kwatra had built a rare and highprofile career in American luxury retaiL. At Saks Fifth Avenue, he became the store’s go-to stylist for wealthy and influential clients, earning the nickname “Fashion Whisperer.”

The Alleged Modus Operandi

According to a criminal complaint filed in Boston Municipal Court, Kwatra was detained following an internal investigation at Saks. Police were called to the retailer’s Prudential Center location after loss-prevention officials flagged suspicion.

Prosecutors allege that when wealthy clients ordered luxury items but failed to pick them up, Kwatra processed returns anyway and converted those refunds into Saks gift cards, which he allegedly used to purchase merchandise for himself. Reports from local outlets, including the Boston Herald and Boston.com, say the scheme got him more than $400,000 worth of merchandise between September and November alone, with fraudulent returns totaling over $11,000 during that period.

The MGNREGA scheme, launched by the then UPA government in 2005, guarantees 100 days of work in rural areas and has been a game-changer over the past two decades. The new Bill proposes to raise the 100-day guarantee to 125. It also proposes that payments are made within a week or 15 days after the work is completed. If the payments are not made within the deadline, there is also a provision for an unemployment allowance.

The new Bill proposes that work under the scheme will be divided into four categories -- water security, rural infrastructure, livelihood infrastructure and disaster resilience.

Such work won't be carried out during the peak agricultural season when residents of rural areas are busy. To ensure transparency, biometrics and geotagging would be used. There is also the provision of grievance redressal at various levels.

WA S H N G T O N , D C The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has approved two new oral medications to treat uncomplicated urogenital gonorrhea, a common sexually transmitted infection, expanding treatment options amid growing concerns about antibiotic resistance.

The FDA approve d Nuzolvence (zoliflodacin) granules, which dissolve in water, for adults and children aged 12 and older who weigh at least 77 pounds. A day earlier, the agency approved Blujepa (gepotidacin) oral tablets for patients aged 12 and older who weigh at least 99 pounds. Blujepa is intended for patients with few or no alternative treatment options due to limited clinical safety data. It was first approved in March 2025 for urinary tract infections.

“These approvals mark a significant milestone for treatment options for patients with uncomplicated urogenital gonorrhea,” said Dr. Adam Sherwat, director of the Office of Infectious Diseases at the FDA’s Center for Drug Evaluation and Research.

Gonorrhea is caused by the bacterium Neisseria gonorrhoeae and commonly affects the urethra or cervix. Symptoms may include painful urination, genital discharge, and swelling. If untreated, the infection can spread to reproductive organs and lead to infertility. Current guidelines recommend treatment with a single injection of ceftriaxone.

In a study of 930 patients, a single 3-gram dose of Nuzolvence cured 91% of patients, compared with a 96% cure rate using standard therapy, demonstrating comparable effectiveness. In a separate study of 628 patients, Blujepa achieved a 93% cure rate, compared with 91% for standard treatment.

Both drugs carry safety warnings. Nuzolvence may pose risks during pregnancy, while Blujepa may affect heart rhythm and neurological function. Common side effects for both include gastrointestinal symptoms and headache. The FDA granted Fast Track, Qualified Infectious Disease Product, and Priority Review designations to both medications. Nuzolvence was approved for Entasis Therapeutics, and Blujepa for GSK.

Authorities allege that Vikram then entered his Tesla and intentionally rammed it into two parked vehicles, sending one car over an embankment.

His own vehicle also went over the edge, where deputies later located him.

Chicago Women Allege Assault by Immigration Officer

CHICAGO, IL — A U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officer has been charged in federal court for allegedly sexually assaulting and robbing multiple women in the Chicago suburbs, in a case that has raised serious concerns about abuse of authority by a federal law enforcement official. Luis Uribe, 44, of Pingree Grove in northwest suburban Chicago, is facing 10 counts of deprivation of civil rights under color of law and one count of brandishing a firearm during a crime of violence, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Illinois. Uribe appeared in federal court for his arraignment, where he entered a plea of not guilty to all charges.

According to a federal indictment unsealed this week, the alleged crimes took place in 2022 in the suburban communities of Schaumburg and Naperville.

Prosecutors allege that Uribe misused his position as a CBP officer to intimidate and control two women, sexually assaulting and robbing them while falsely invoking his law enforcement authority. The indictment further claims that Uribe brandished a firearm during at least one of the alleged assaults, escalating the severity of the offenses and placing the victims in fear for their lives.

Federal prosecutors argue that his actions constituted a grave violation of public trust, as well as the civil rights of the victims.

If convicted on the charges, Uribe faces a mandatory minimum sentence of seven years in federal prison, with the possibility of a maximum sentence of life imprisonment, due to the seriousness of the allegations and the use of a firearm during a violent crime.Uribe is expected to return to court at a later date for a detention hearing, where a judge will determine whether he will remain in custody while awaiting trial. Federal authorities have not released further details about the victims, citing privacy and the ongoing nature of the case.

San Jose Pedestrian Crash Leaves Young Indian Woman in Coma; Father Seeks Assistance HiIndia Newsdesk

SAN JOSE, CA – A young Bay Area resident, Arti Singh, has been in a coma for more than a month following a devastating traffic collision on November 9. Singh was walking home from a professional networking event when she was struck at a pedestrian crossing just blocks from her residence.

She has remained unresponsive since the crash and is undergoing intensive treatment at Santa Clara Valley Medical Center, where doctors have performed major neck and stomach surgeries to help her breathe and receive nutrition.

Her father, Sumiran Singh, rushed to San Jose after the accident and is now struggling alone in an unfamiliar city.

With no relatives or support network in the Bay Area, he has told community members he has had no access to Arti’s devices, documents, or personal belongings—complicating everything from hospital coordination to legal and logistical needs.

disclosed the identity of the man who struck Singh, sharing only that the driver is in his 50s and was uninsured.

Amid the uncertainty, supporters are urging authorities to release more information about the investigation and to ensure Singh receives the resources he needs during a crisis that has upended his family’s life.

As he tries to cope, local community members have stepped in. The Overseas Organization for Better Bihar (O2B2) has been accompanying him to appointments and helping him navigate language barriers, paperwork, and basic needs. The group has also launched a fundraising effort to cover his accommodation, transportation, food, and daily expenses so he can remain close to his daughter’s bedside.

“This is every parent’s nightmare. Mr. Singh is alone here with no family support,” an O2B2 representative said.

“We are looking for support from the Bay Area Indian community—lawyers, social services, advocacy. Any help will be appreciated.” Community leader Ajay Bhutoria has also contacted the District Attorney’s Office and is working with volunteers to ensure the family receives the assistance they need.
