‘Jimmy Kimmel Live’ Pulled Over Kirk Remarks
Jimmy Kimmel's late-night television show has been taken off the air "indefinitely" after the host was criticized for comments about the motives behind the killing of conservative influencer Charlie Kirk, US network ABC said Wednesday. The stunning decision to suspend one of the United States' most popular and influential late-night shows comes as President Donald Trump has widened his legal attacks on media organizations that he accuses of bias against him. It was immediately welcomed by Trump, who hailed it as "Great News for America." "Jimmy Kimmel Live will be preempted indefinitely," an ABC spokesperson told AFP, using a television industry term for when a show is replaced or removed from the schedule. Kirk, a close Trump ally, was shot dead last week while speaking on a Utah university campus.
Elon Musk Asks xAI Staff to Revalidate 4-Week Work
This is the second such instance when Elon Musk has asked his staff to explain what they have been doing and what they plan to do in next few weeks.
Elon Musk, the CEO of xAI, has once again notified his staff members to provide summaries of their recent work and demonstrate "what you've accomplished."
Musk asked all xAI employees to "send a one-page summary of what you've accomplished in the past four weeks and what you intend to accomplish in the next four weeks" in an email issued to colleagues on Tuesday afternoon. According to a copy of the email, obtained by CNN, Musk wrote, "This is due by noon on Thursday." The demand comes at a time xAI is undergoing a major reorganisation. With a strategy shift towards specialised AI instructors in industries like STEM, finance, medicine, and safety, Musk's xAI reportedly fired over 500 data annotators last week, many of whom were from its generalist AI tutor team, according to Reuters.
"Kimmel Has ZERO Talent"
Trump On Show Suspension Over Charlie Kirk Remark
After Jimmy Kimmel made comments about the killing of Charlie Kirk, ABC indefinitely suspended his late-night show.
US President Donald Trump on Wednesday praised the cancellation of Jimmy Kimmel's late-night show as "great news for America", as he celebrated the departure of a comedian who is bitingly critical of the US president. "Great News for America: The ratings challenged Jimmy Kimmel Show is CANCELLED," Trump wrote on his social media site Truth Social. "Congratulations to ABC for finally having the courage to do what had to be done. Kimmel has ZERO talent, and worse ratings than even Colbert, if
that's possible," he added. After Jimmy Kimmel made comments about the killing of Charlie Kirk, ABC indefinitely suspended his late-night show. This action came after a group of ABC-affiliated stations announced they would no longer air the show. Kimmel, the veteran late-night comic, made several comments about the reaction to Kirk's assassination on his show Monday and Tuesday nights. He said that “many in MAGA land are working very hard to capitalize on the murder of Charlie Kirk.”
Trump Labels Antifa ‘Terror Group’ After Kirk Killing
New Delhi: US President Donald Trump on Thursday designated Antifa, a decentralized far-left network, as a “major terrorist organisation,” days after the assassination of his close aide and conservative activist Charlie Kirk. Antifa, short for “anti-fascist,” refers to groups opposing what they see as fascist or far-right extremism.
Trump announced the move on Truth Social, calling Antifa a “sick, dangerous, radical left disaster” and warning that those funding it would face thorough investigations “in accordance with the highest legal standards and practices.”

Obama: US at 'Inflection Point' After Kirk Killing, Blames Trump
Former President Barack Obama says that the United States is at “an inflection point” following the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk and that President Donald Trump has further divided the country rather than work to bring people together.
“There are no ifs, ands or buts about it: The central premise of our democratic system is that we have to be able to disagree and have sometimes really contentious debates without resorting to violence,” Mr Obama said Tuesday night during an event in Erie, Pennsylvania, hosted by the Jefferson Education Society, according to a transcript obtained by The Associated Press.
“And when it happens to some, but even if you think they're, quote, unquote, on the other side of the argument, that's a threat to all of us," he said. "And we have to be clear and forthright in condemning them.”
King Charles Hosts Trump on UK State Visit
JD Vance, said Kirk’s final message urged a coordinated effort against unnamed left-wing groups accused of promoting violence, pledging the federal government would use “every available resource” to dismantle them. Kirk, 31, co-founder of Turning Point USA, was shot in the neck during an event at Utah Valley University on September 10. The alleged shooter, Tyler Robinson, 22, has been arrested. Robinson admitted in texts to his partner that he acted after being angered by Kirk’s “hatred.” Trump had first suggested designating Antifa as a terrorist group in May 2020, formalizing it now amid rising political tensions.
Donald Trump was treated to a royal reception featuring gun salutes, soldiers on horseback and bagpipes as he met Wednesday with Britain's King Charles III for a historic second state visit, which unfolded far from marching protesters. The pair laughed and joked as Trump inspected troops at Windsor Castle, west of London, in an elaborate spectacle featuring a carriage procession designed to play into the mercurial American leader's love of pomp and pageantry. Some 120 horses, and 1,300 members of the British military -- some in red tunics and gold plumed helmets -- feted Trump during a ceremonial guard of honour that UK officials called the largest for a state visit to Britain in living memory.
The president and First Lady Melania Trump were greeted by heir-to-thethrone Prince William and wife Catherine at Windsor after stepping off the Marine One helicopter under grey skies at 12:15 pm (1115 GMT).

Obama Hits Trump’s Rhetoric, Actions After Kirk Killing
United Kingdom:
India urges global community to stop LeT, JeM use of Afghan soil
United Nations: (IANS) India has called on the international community to ensure that Lashkare-Taiba (LeT), Jaishe-Mohammed (JeM), and other terrorist organisations do not exploit Afghanistan's territory.
“India is closely monitoring the security situation in Afghanistan,” India’s Permanent Representative P. Harish told the Security Council on Wednesday.
“The international community must coordinate efforts towards ensuring that entities and individuals designated by the UN Security Council, the ISIL (Islamic State group) and Al-Qaeda and their affiliates, including Lashkar-e-Taiba and

Jaish-e-Mohammed, along with those who facilitate their operations, no longer exploit the Afghan territory for terrorist activities,” he said. Harish said that India welcomed “the strong condemnation” of the Pahalgam terrorist attack by LeT affiliate, The Resistance Front, which killed 26 civilians based on their
religion.
The Secretary-General's Special Representative for Afghanistan, Roza Otunbayeva, who spoke earlier during the Council discussion on the UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA), warned that the presence of “extremist groups" posed a problem for Afghanistan despite "a notable decline in largescale armed conflict and violence”.
The Taliban regime, which took over Afghanistan after the US withdrew its troops in 2021, has not been recognised by the UN, which refers to it as the “de facto authorities”, and by most countries, including India. Harish, however, said a fresh approach was needed towards Afghanistan.
Israeli tanks push into major Gaza City residential area
Local residents and eyewitnesses say dozens of Israeli tanks and military vehicles have pushed into a major residential district of Gaza City, on the second day of Israel's ground offensive aimed at occupying the area.
Video footage shows tanks, bulldozers
and armoured personnel carriers moving on the edges of Sheikh Radwan, in northern Gaza City. Thick clouds of smoke can be seen as Israeli forces fire artillery shells and smoke bombs to cover their advance.
The Sheikh Radwan district was home to tens of thousands of people before the war and is considered one of the city's most densely populated areas.
Israel says the aim of its Gaza City offensive is to free hostages held by Hamas and defeat up to 3,000 fighters in what it describes as the group's "last stronghold" - but the operation has drawn widespread international condemnation.

Kong lawmakers say no to more rights for same-sex
Lawmakers in Hong Kong have rejected a controversial bill that would have granted limited rights to same-sex couples, in a blow to the city's gay rights movement.
The law, which would have recognised some rights for couples who were married overseas, was opposed by 71 of the city's 89-member Legislative Council (LegCo). It was proposed by the government to comply with a 2023 court ruling, following the rejection of an attempt to legalise same-sex marriage.
US space agency Nasa has blocked Chinese citizens with valid US visas from its facilities - a move that effectively bars them from working at one of the most respected space research centres.
Chinese nationals, who could only work at Nasa as contractors or students contributing to research, found out on 5 September that they had lost all access to Nasa's systems and facilities, Bloomberg reported, citing sources.
Nasa then confirmed this, saying Chinese nationals would be restricted from using the agency's "facilities, materials and networks to ensure the security of our work".
China's accelerated space programme has alarmed the US and ramped up the race between the two biggest economies.
Chinese astronauts are already excluded from the International Space Station (ISS) because Washington has barred Nasa from sharing its data with China.
The latest restriction from Nasa only adds to the decline in scientific collaboration between the two sides because of national security concerns.
As they compete to gain a technological edge, Beijing and Washington have also grown increasingly wary of each other.
The suspicion has made it harder for some Chinese students, especially those studying science and tech, to get visas or even enter the US once they have secured a visa.
There have also been several cases in the US recently of alleged espionage by Chinese nationals, and scientists in particular have increasingly come under the microscope. It is unclear how much notice Nasa gave Chinese nationals who were working for the agency.
Brazil's president, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, has defended the trial which saw his predecessor in office, Jair Bolsonaro, sentenced to more than 27 years in prison for plotting a coup. In an opinion piece published in the New York Times, Lula dismissed the description by US President Donald Trump of the trial as a "witch hunt", saying that it was a "historic decision which safeguard's our institutions and the democratic rule of law".

Indian H-1B Faces Visa Trouble Over Grace Period
The user revealed that the friend treated the period as a "soft deadline" and faced immigration issues, including receiving a Notice to Appear (NTA) for deportation proceedings.
A cautionary tale on Reddit is sparking discussion among Indian professionals in the US. A user shared that his friend, an Indian H-1B visa holder, misinterpreted the 60-day grace period following a job layoff and now faces serious immigration issues.
Earlier this year, the individual was laid off. Under US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) rules, H-1B workers have 60 days to find new employment, change visa status, or leave the country. The visa holder, however, treated the period as a “soft deadline” and overstayed, believing he could secure another job without issue. Once the 60 days expired, his status became invalid. When he eventually tried to leave, the overstay was recorded, creating a violation on his record. This now appears as a red flag on future US visa applications.
The Reddit post warned, “The clock starts ticking the day you’re terminated. If you don’t transfer your H-1B, change status, or leave before 60 days, it can derail your plans.” Users emphasized the gravity of the mistake, noting that the 60-day period is strictly enforced and not flexible. The case serves as a reminder of the strict compliance required under US immigration rules.

US Probes Tesla Model Y Door Failures
National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says it had received reports citing an inability to open exterior doors, including after parents exited the vehicle to remove a child or to place a child in the rear seat before starting a trip
The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has launched an investigation into approximately 174,000 Tesla Model Y vehicles from the 2021 model year following complaints that their electronic door handles may fail.
According to the agency, it has received nine reports citing situations where owners were unable to open exterior doors. In several cases, parents exiting the vehicle to secure or retrieve a child were unable to reopen the doors. In four instances, parents were forced to break a window to regain entry.
NHTSA explained that Tesla vehicles include manual door releases inside the cabin, but children may be unable to locate or operate them, increasing potential safety risks.
The agency’s initial review indicates the problem may stem from insufficient voltage reaching the electronic door locks. Repair records show that lowvoltage battery replacements were

New AI deal could rapidly boost UK
economy, says Microsoft boss
Microsoft says its new $30bn (£22bn) investment in the UK's AI sector - its largest outside of the US - should significantly boost Britain's economy in the next few years.
The package forms a major part of a £31bn agreement dubbed the "Tech
Prosperity Deal", signed between the UK government and several US tech giants as part of Donald Trump's second state visit to the UK.
The deal will see Google, Nvidia and others invest in British-based infrastructure to support AI tech, largely in the form of data centres. Microsoft will also now be involved in the creation of a powerful new supercomputer in Essex.
Mr Nadella compared the economic benefits of the meteoric rise of AI with the impact of the personal computer when it became common in the workplace, about ten years after it first started scaling in the 1990s.

US to invest £150bn in UK, promising thousands of jobs
A record-breaking £150bn package of US investment into the UK has been announced during US President Donald Trump's state visit.
The UK government is calling this the largest commercial deal of its kind and expects it to create more than 7,600 "highquality jobs" across the country.

Trump said he was going to be meeting Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese "very soon", adding: "I'm going to tell him about you. You set a very bad tone."
When Lyons tried to ask another question, Trump held his index finger to his lips before saying "quiet" and moved away to speak to another journalist. For months, Albanese has been seeking a meeting with the US president after talks between the pair were cancelled at the last-minute when Trump left the G20 summit in June earlier than expected to deal with the war in the Middle East.
Prime Minister Keir Starmer said the investments "are a testament to Britain's economic strength and a bold signal that our country is open, ambitious, and ready to lead". "Jobs, growth and opportunity is what I promised for working people, and it's exactly what this State Visit is delivering," he added.
On Thursday, major UK and US investors will meet the Prime Minister and President Trump at Chequers to discuss how both countries can go further to deepen their economic ties and future collaborations.
Blackstone previously announced in June that it would invest £370bn in Europe over the next decade.

When Geeta S. Rao rolls out on her bicycle at dawn, she carries with her not just the weight of her own dreams, but of a nation that she has already made proud. A Paralympian who created history by qualifying for the 2024 Paris Games, marking India’s return to Olympic para-cycling after a gap of 64 years, Geeta has gone on to conquer some of the toughest races in the world. From winning gold at the IWAS World Ability Sport Games in Thailand, to silver medals at the Asian Para Cycling Championships in Tajikistan and India, to securing topten finishes at World Cup events in Belgium and Italy, she has done what no Indian woman before her dared to dream. She cycled 3700 km solo from Kashmir to Kanyakumari in just 16 days, became Ahmedabad’s first Bicycle Mayor, and crossed 138,000 km on two wheels—saving thousands of kilos in carbon emissions and planting hope for a greener planet. And yet, despite these feats and her remarkable achievements, Geeta S. Rao - the trailblazer in her sport, remains a forgotten name … !
A Childhood Stolen by a Routine Shot
Her story began with heartbreak. At just three years old, a routine injection left Geeta paralysed in one leg. Doctors told her devastated parents that she would never walk again. But instead of letting disability define her, her father told her something she carries even today: “Your studies can be your strength. Dream, and then work for that dream. Leave the rest to destiny.”
Growing up in Ahmedabad, India, Geeta faced not just physical pain but society’s harshest cruelties. Her parents carried her into school classrooms on a
chair. One day, she overheard a neighbor whisper, “It’s better not to have a child than to have one like her.” The remark scarred her. In a world where other children crowded around black-andwhite televisions for joy, Geeta admits she was instead learning how characters on screen committed suicide. “I thought if I disappeared, my family’s problems would too,” she recalls.
It was only when she confessed these thoughts that her parents resolved never to leave her alone. Her father, who had migrated from Rajasthan to Gujarat with just Rs. 12 in his pocket, even hired a physiotherapist to help her regain mobility—despite raising six children and struggling financially. With years of effort, Geeta moved from wheelchairs to crutches to walking poles. Today, she still leans on those supports, but proudly. “I now see them as my strength, not my weakness.”

The Woman Who Put India on the Para-Cycling Map, Yet Waits for Her Due
A Paralympian who created history by qualifying for the 2024 Paris Games, won gold at the IWAS World Ability Sport Games in Thailand and created a world record of cycling 3,700 km solo from Kashmir to Kanyakumari – Geeta Rao is the kind of sports person India needs to support and celebrate
Recognition Abroad, Silence at Home
With unwavering determination, Geeta trains tirelessly, her eyes fixed on the 2028 Los Angeles Paralympics . Despite her impressive achievements, she faces hurdles in securing coaching, equipment, and financial support. Yet, this trailblazing Indian para-cyclist remains optimistic, driven to etch her name in history. At 48, Geeta refuses to slow down, pushing boundaries for herself and India's paracycling legacy.
Choosing Independence
Education became Geeta’s stepping stone. She completed her MBA, worked for 12 years in the corporate sector, and when the time came for marriage discussions, her father gave her a choice few women in their conservative community had: to marry or to build a life of independence. Geeta chose freedom. “He told me to become so strong emotionally and financially that I never had to depend on anyone,” she says.
Life-Changing Bicycle Ride at 40
It was at 40 that Geeta stumbled upon the image that would alter her life once again: a cyclist on a winding road at sunset. “Most kids’ first big toy is a bicycle. I had missed out on that. I wanted to live that dream now,” she remembers.
She bought a cycle, fell within 200 meters, but rose with a vow to one
day ride 200 km. Within two months, she achieved it. Soon she was pushing boundaries no differently-abled Indian had dared before—cycling solo from Kashmir to Kanyakumari in 16 days, completing 3,651 km at the Asian Ultra Cycling Championship, conquering Leh, Khardung La, and even Rishikesh’s highest bungee jump.
Her biggest triumph came in 2024, when she qualified for the Paris Paralympics— placing her among the world’s top ten para-cyclists and making her the first Indian in over six decades to represent the country in the sport. Along the way, she won international medals, national records, and even the title of India’s first differently-abled Super Randonneur. every medal was earned by facing unique life challenges, with grit, sheer determination, dedication, consistency.

"India is coming to the table. Prime Minister (Narendra) Modi sent out a very conciliatory, nice, constructive tweet, and President (Donald) Trump responded to that. We'll see how this works," he told CNBC.
Last week, Mr Trump said that India and the US are "continuing negotiations to address the trade barriers". "I look forward to speaking with my very good friend, Prime Minister Modi, in the upcoming weeks. I feel certain that there will be no difficulty in coming to a successful conclusion for both our countries," he posted on Truth Social. In response, PM Modi said that he was "confident that our trade negotiations will pave the way for unlocking the limitless potential of the IndiaUS partnership". India and the US are "close friends and natural partners", he wrote on X. Mr Navarro, who has in the past called India "the Maharaja of tariffs", reiterated that India has the "highest tariffs" of any major country.
Sues New York Times for $15B, Calls It “Most Degenerate Newspaper”
Washington: US President Donald Trump, on Monday (local time), said he's suing American daily The New York Times over its coverage of him over the decades. The American leader said he's bringing a $15 billion defamation lawsuit against the publication that he labelled as a "virtual mouthpiece for the Radical Left Democrat Party" and of waging a decades-long "campaign of lies" against him.
"Today, I have the Great Honour of bringing a $15 Billion Dollar Defamation and Libel Lawsuit against The New York Times, one of the worst and most degenerate newspapers in the History of our Country, becoming a virtual "mouthpiece" for the Radical Left Democrat Party," Trump said in a post on X.
The Republican claimed that the newspaper's supposed endorsement of Kamala Harris-- his Democrat rival in the presidential race-- which he said was placed prominently on the daily's front page, amounted to "the single largest illegal campaign contribution, ever". He also accused the publication of spreading falsehoods about him, his

family, his business, and the America First and Make America Great Again (MAGA) movements and the "nation as a whole". The US President's legal battles against the New York Times follow a string of similar lawsuits against other US broadcasters, including ABC News and CBS, both of which reached out-of-court settlements with Trump. ABC settled the Trump lawsuit in exchange for a $15 million donation to the future Trump Library. That lawsuit involved a dispute over the wording of the actions for which Trump was found liable in a civil lawsuit brought by E Jean Carroll.

Trump Says 50% India Tariffs Strained Ties
US President Donald Trump said the 50% tariff on India over Russian oil purchases strained ties, calling it “a big deal” that caused a rift. The tariffs, aimed at enforcing Western sanctions on Russia, sparked outrage in India and disrupted $190 billion in annual trade.
India has seen outrage and a spike in anti-US sentiment after Trump imposed tariffs of up to 50 per cent on some of its exports over purchases of oil from Russia, under Western sanctions for its invasion of Ukraine.
Trump said negotiations with India continue, and he plans to speak with PM Modi. Ambassador nominee Sergio Gor called the tariffs a “little hiccup” and emphasized keeping India aligned with US interests.
On Russia, Trump said his patience with Putin is “running out fast” and hinted at possible sanctions, noting European cooperation would be needed.

residents still cannot return home due to ongoing tensions.
Modi stressed that the central government is working to restore normalcy, citing peace agreements signed with several groups in the Northeast. “For development to take root, peace is essential. I appeal to all organisations to move forward on the path of peace,” he said.
Highlighting development projects, he announced upgrades in connectivity, including new highways, rail links between Jiribam and Imphal, and medical colleges. He also noted progress under central schemes: nearly 60,000 houses built for the poor, and tap water connections expanded from about 30,000 to 3.5 lakh households.
Modi said Manipur is now advancing with the rest of India and expressed confidence that the country is on track to become the world’s third-largest economy.

Indian Couple Assaulted by Chinese Hotel Manager in Switzerland
A Canadian-based Indian couple’s vacation in Switzerland turned into a nightmare after they were allegedly assaulted by a Chinese hotel manager. Nikita and Karan shared the incident on Instagram, recounting the shocking events. The couple had been staying at a hotel in Gstaad, run by a Chinese family, on June 24. According to their post, the conflict began when hotel staff removed a fan from their room without prior notice. When the couple politely raised the issue, the manager responded with arrogance, threats, and abusive language. Attempts to communicate in English were ignored, forcing the couple to use a German translator.
The situation escalated the following morning during checkout. The couple claims the manager physically attacked them, repeatedly punching and kicking Nikita, and throwing a metal object at her face. Nikita suffered a broken tooth and other injuries. Nikita and Karan believe the attack was racially motivated, alleging that discrimination played a role in the assault. They also criticized local authorities for failing to take timely action. Nikita is currently undergoing multiple dental procedures and is coping with the trauma from the incident. The couple’s experience highlights concerns over safety and discrimination faced by tourists in foreign countries, prompting calls for stricter oversight and accountability in the hospitality sector.

Gut health isn’t just about avoiding bloating or indigestion—it may also influence heart health, say experts.
Cardiologist Dr. Anil Mehra warns that an unhealthy gut can trigger inflammation and other risk factors linked to cardiovascular disease.
“Your gut microbiome is connected to your overall health in ways we’re only beginning to understand,” said Dr. Mehra. “An imbalance in gut bacteria can lead to inflammation, high blood pressure, and even plaque buildup in arteries, all of which affect the heart.”
A healthy gut supports better cholesterol regulation and reduces systemic inflammation. “When harmful bacteria dominate the gut, they can release toxins that enter the bloodstream, potentially harming the heart,” Dr. Mehra added.
To protect both gut and heart health, Dr. Mehra recommends these practical habits:
From Belly to Beat
• Eat a Balanced Diet: Focus on fiber-rich fruits, vegetables, and fermented foods like yogurt or kimchi. “A diverse diet nourishes a diverse microbiome, which is essential for overall health,” he explained.
• Exercise Regularly: Even moderate activity like walking, cycling, or yoga encourages good gut bacteria while strengthening the heart.
Why Your Gut Could Predict Your Heart Health
Your gut health isn’t just about digestion—it can directly impact your heart. An imbalance in gut bacteria can trigger inflammation and produce harmful metabolites linked to heart disease, including high blood pressure and atherosclerosis. Eating a fiber-rich diet with fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and fermented foods like yogurt or kimchi helps nourish beneficial gut bacteria, while reducing red meat can lower harmful compounds. Regular exercise, stress management, and adequate sleep further support both gut and cardiovascular health. Small, consistent lifestyle changes—balanced diet, active living, and mindful habits—can improve your gut microbiome, protect your heart, and enhance overall well-being.

Protein Powder: Kidney Risk or Safe?
Gastro specialist Dr. Pal breaks down the science behind protein powders, their benefits, and potential risks. From kidney concerns to ideal doses, timing, and side effects, he covers everything you need to know. Dr. Pal also explains how women can safely include protein powders in their diet and why whole foods like chicken or tofu often remain the better, more natural choice. According to Dr. Pal, protein sourced from whole foods is always preferable, but whey protein can be a convenient option if you struggle to meet your daily protein requirement. He recommends consuming roughly one gram of protein per kilogram of body weight—so a 70 kg person would
• Manage Stress: Chronic stress can upset gut balance and raise cardiovascular risk. Meditation, deep breathing, or yoga can help.
• Prioritize Sleep: Poor sleep affects the microbiome and the heart. Aim for seven to eight hours of quality rest nightly.
• Stay Hydrated: Drinking enough water maintains the intestinal lining, which protects against harmful bacteria.
Bloating often signals an imbalanced gut. Dr. Mehra advises avoiding processed foods, cutting down on sugar, and eating smaller, more frequent meals to ease digestive discomfort.
“Caring for your gut isn’t just about comfort—it’s an essential step for long-term heart health,” he said. “Small, consistent changes in diet, activity, and lifestyle can deliver significant benefits for both your digestive system and your cardiovascular well-being.”
The one time you should never eat, according to a leading cardiologist
If you find yourself heading to the kitchen for a snack after dinner, a top heart expert says it’s time to rethink that habit. According to Dr. William Kraus, a preventive cardiologist at Duke Health, eating late at night is one of the most common yet harmful diet traps and it may be silently sabotaging your health and weight-loss goals, as per a Today.com report.
Dr. Kraus told that, “My No. 1 recommendation to every patient who walks in my office is not to eat after dinner,” as quoted in the report.
need around 70 grams per day. For most healthy individuals, protein powders do not harm the kidneys. However, people with existing kidney conditions should use them cautiously. Dr. Pal suggests taking whey protein any time, though post-workout consumption helps with faster recovery and absorption. He also advises starting with half a scoop to avoid bloating, as your gut may need time to adjust.
Dr. Pal emphasises that homemade whole foods like chicken or tofu remain the superior source of protein. Whenever possible, cooking at home ensures you get the best nutrition without relying solely on supplements.
The expert has pointed out that those nighttime nibbles may seem harmless, but they often lead to unnecessary calories, poor sleep, and long-term issues like weight gain and heart problems, according to the report. The doctor explained that the food which is consumed late in the day or just before bedtime will only get stored rather than burned for energy, as reported in the Today. com report. He said, “Your body doesn’t need it … so it’s unnecessary calories going in your body. It also interrupts sleep if you eat too close to going to bed,” as quoted in the report. As per a research, eating at late night is considered to have a higher risk of obesity, high cholesterol and heart disease, and progression of arterial stiffness, because it requires digestion during sleep, a time when the body is used to an overnight fast.

US Proposes 25% Outsourcing Tax, Indian IT Nervous
India’s $283 billion IT sector faces uncertainty as the US debates a 25% tax on outsourcing. US firms may push back through lobbying or legal challenges.
The bill could affect global capability centres, though existing contracts may stay intact. Political traction and uncertainty may delay deals and investments, threatening India’s IT growth amid a slowing US market.

Manoj Bajpayee Reacts to Losing Award to SRK
Three-time National Award-winning actor Manoj Bajpayee delivered a powerful performance as an advocate in the 2023 OTT release Sirf Ek Bandaa Kaafi Hai. Many believed the film would earn him his fourth National Award. However, the Best Actor honour at the 71st National Film Awards was instead shared between Shah Rukh Khan (Jawan) and Vikrant Massey (12th Fail). While SRK fans celebrated his first-ever National Award,
a section of cinephiles felt that Manoj was equally deserving.
In a conversation, Manoj said, “It is a useless conversation because it is gone. When it comes to Sirf Ek Bandaa Kaafi Hai, yes, it is a very special film in my filmography and so was Joram. They are going to be on top of my filmography. But I don’t discuss these things because it is a very loser conversation. It is in the past and it should be left alone.”
Manoj Bajpayee stated, “It’s not just about a national award. It’s about all the awards that were revered. They should seriously think about how they are operating. US Detains Sikh Woman Living in Country 30+ Years
Harjit Kaur, a 30-year California resident, was detained by ICE during a routine check-in.
Harjit Kaur, a 73-year-old Sikh woman who has lived in Northern California for over 30 years, was detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) during a routine check-in. Her family and community members protested her detention, calling for her immediate release.
Kaur, who came to the US from India in 1992 as a single mother, had her asylum denied in 2012 but faithfully reported to ICE every six months for 13 years. She was taken to a detention center in Bakersfield after being asked to submit additional paperwork.
Community leaders, including Congressman John Garamendi and local officials, criticized ICE for detaining a law-abiding, elderly woman with health issues, calling it a misplacement of priorities. Kaur, who has two sons, five grandchildren, and worked over two decades at a local Indian store, is described by her family as selfless and a mother figure to the community. Her family expressed concern for her health, citing thyroid disease, migraines, knee pain, and anxiety, and vowed to push for her release.

SC Suspends Waqf Act 2025 Provision, Won’t Stay Whole Law
The Supreme Court on Monday refused to stay the entire Waqf (Amendment) Act, 2025, citing a “presumption” of constitutionality, but temporarily blocked certain provisions. The bench, comprising Chief Justice B.R. Gavai and Justice Augustine George Masih, stayed the clause restricting waqf creation to those practising Islam for the last five years. Another provision giving a government-designated officer the power to resolve disputes over encroachment on Waqf properties was also stayed. The bench clarified that challenges to individual sections did not justify halting the entire statute. “We have found that the entire Act is challenged, but the basic challenge was to sections 3(r), 3C, 14…,” CJI Gavai said. The court emphasized that the presumption of constitutionality applies to statutes and can only be overturned in rare cases.

RSS Chief: 'United' India Proves Churchill Wrong, UK Faces Division
Indore: RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat on Sunday said India is progressing on the path of development by adhering to its traditional philosophy of knowledge, action, and devotion, defying predictions of division. His remarks came amid India’s 7.8% GDP growth in the April-June quarter, the highest in five quarters.
Speaking after releasing Madhya

He criticized personal interests for global conflicts, emphasizing that India’s forefathers taught the balance of knowledge, action, and devotion.
Referring to Winston Churchill, Bhagwat said India disproved his prediction of post-independence division, while the UK faces growing internal divides. He stressed that faith, action, and logic form the foundation of Indian society, contrasting it with modern developments that harm the environment, erode family values, and distort cultural norms.

The detailed judgment is awaited. The top court had earlier reserved its order on May 22 on issues including the power to denotify properties declared as “waqf by courts, waqf-by-user, or waqf by deed,” which arose during pleas challenging the Act’s validity.
This ruling allows most of the Waqf Act 2025 to remain operational while addressing constitutional concerns regarding specific provisions.

US President Donald Trump has condemned the brutal killing of 41-year-old Chandra Nagamallaiah, an Indian motel manager in Dallas, by an undocumented Cuban immigrant. Trump vowed to prosecute the accused, 37-year-old Yordanis CobosMartinez, “to the fullest extent of the law” and promised to end leniency toward “illegal immigrant criminals.”On September 10, Martinez allegedly attacked Nagamallaiah with a machete at the Downtown Suites motel, decapitating him in front of his wife and 18-year-old son. Disturbing CCTV footage showed Martinez repeatedly assaulting the victim, then placing his severed head in a dumpster.
Trump said accused Cobos-Martinez, earlier held for serious crimes, was freed under Biden.
Trump blamed the Biden administration for releasing Martinez into the community despite his criminal record, which included child sex abuse, grand theft auto, and false imprisonment. “This individual should have never been in our country. The time for being soft is over under my watch,” Trump said on Truth Social. The US Department of Homeland Security confirmed Martinez had been in ICE custody until his release in January 2025 under an Order of Supervision. DHS officials said the killing was preventable, accusing the Biden administration of allowing dangerous undocumented immigrants to remain in the country.

Community Comes Together During Skillman & Gupta’s Visit to I Love Sai Temple
CHICAGO, IL- On Saturday evening, September 13, 2025, the I Love Sai Temple in Carpentersville, Illinois, welcomed two distinguished guests—Village President John Skillman and Village Trustee Sam Gupta—for a heartfelt community gathering. From 7:00 to 7:30 pm, the temple at 30 N Washington Street became the center of warmth and gratitude, celebrating its journey and the enduring bond it shares with the village.
Since its founding in January 2018, under the blessings of Shirdi Sai Baba, the temple has grown into a hub of peace, charity, and unity. The path was not easy—COVID-19 shutdowns, bureaucratic hurdles, and delays slowed progress. Yet, with community support and leaders like President Skillman and the Village Board, the temple persevered and opened nearly three years ago. Today, it stands as both a place of worship and a beacon of service, providing over 100,000 meals and nurturing partnerships with organizations such as the Rotary Club.
The evening began with reflections on the temple’s origins. “Baba chose this place,” said Director Vijaya Bhattaram, recalling the 2018 property purchase.
Initially unfamiliar with Carpentersville, the founders soon discovered a welcoming community with the charm of a European village and the serenity of the Fox River.
President Skillman addressed the gathering with warmth. “You’ve been great neighbors, giving back to the community in ways that make us all proud,” he said. His remarks highlighted not just the temple’s contributions but also the importance of shared responsibility: “We must all step up and take care of people in challenging times.” His sincerity reflected the strong relationship between the temple and village leadership.
Trustee Sam Gupta was also recognized for his ongoing support. His guidance helped secure a critical property tax exemption, saving the temple thousands of dollars that were reinvested in community programs. “Anything we save, we give back,” noted Director Srini Bhattaram. Gupta’s role in introducing the temple to the Carpentersville Rotary Club further expanded its reach, opening doors for broader service opportunities.
The program blended gratitude with lighthearted moments. Laughter filled the hall as organizers
gathered everyone for a group photo destined for the Daily Herald. The evening ended with a spontaneous chant of “Om Sai Ram!”—a joyful reminder of the spirit that binds the community.
The temple’s presence has also spurred growth in the area, attracting other religious and cultural institutions. “Once Baba stepped in, others followed,” a speaker remarked, underscoring the temple’s ripple effect in Carpentersville. Neighbors have welcomed this growth with open arms, fostering harmony and mutual respect.
As the event closed, directors reflected on the temple’s mission of service inspired by Sai Baba’s teachings. The evening was not only a celebration of past achievements but also a call to carry forward a legacy of love, unity, and compassion.
The visit of Village President John Skillman and Trustee Sam Gupta stands as a shining example of collaboration between civic leaders and faith communities. Their presence reaffirmed the temple’s role as more than a place of worship—it is a living embodiment of resilience, generosity, and hope for Carpentersville and beyond.

International Leadership in Neurodiversity Awareness & Advocacy
DANVILLE, CA — When Sriyan Daggubati was in middle school, he had a brilliant friend who often fell behind in class.
“I remember watching teachers write him off, and classmates whisper about how ‘different’ he was,” Daggubati recalls. “He was smarter than most of us, just in a different way. That was the first time I really understood what neurodiversity meant and why it mattered.”
Now a senior at Monte Vista High School, Daggubati has spent the past five years building NeuroGuidance, a nonprofit dedicated to supporting neurodivergent students. What began as resource guides written in his bedroom has grown into an international initiative that has helped more than 2,000 students in 25 countries, partnered with Stanford, Duke, and the University of Michigan,
and reached over 100,000 listeners through a Spotify podcast covering neurodiversity, AI, epilepsy, and more. NeuroGuidance develops teacher workshops, produces free STEM guides in accessible language, and provides technology to students who need it. Daggubati also coordinates nearly 100 student officers worldwide who adapt programs to their schools. In Kenya, NeuroGuidance created sensoryfriendly classroom tools; in Nigeria,
students spoke openly for the first time because, as one educator wrote, “they felt heard.”
Locally, the group partners with SRVUSD schools—including Monte Vista, Cal High, and Pine Valley Middle—to provide resource guides, mentoring, and project-based learning tailored to neurodivergent strengths. One teacher reported that a simple strategy—allowing a student to explain math visually instead of in writing— transformed classroom participation. With support from grassroots fundraising and grants, NeuroGuidance has raised $10,000 to expand its resources and programming. Daggubati hopes to launch more Tri-Valley workshops focused on adapting lessons and celebrating student strengths, and is planning a Monte Vista event to foster inclusion on campus.
Jayapal Condemns Racial Profiling Ruling
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Representative Pramila Jayapal (D-WA), Ranking Member of the Immigration, Integrity, Security, and Enforcement Subcommittee, sharply criticized the Supreme Court’s recent decision permitting the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to engage in racial profiling, including targeting individuals who speak Spanish or appear Latino. The ruling overturned a lower court decision that had blocked such practices. Jayapal called the decision a “violation of our freedoms,” arguing it enables an “authoritarian” administration and erodes public trust in the nation’s highest judicial body. “This ruling is a massive disservice to our country and our Constitution,” Jayapal said.

Skokie School Board Member Slams DOJ Challenge to Illinois Assault Weapons Ban
HiIndia Newsdesk
CHICAGO, IL — A Trumpappointed Justice Department official is challenging Illinois’ assault weapons ban. Assistant U.S. Attorney General Harmeet Dhillon has falsely claimed that military-grade weapons like the AR-15 are protected by the Second Amendment.
“It’s unconscionable for them to side with assault rifles over Illinois families,” said Bushra Amiwala, candidate for Congress in Illinois’ 9th District. “They are putting Illinoisans in danger. If this challenge is successful, the Department of Justice will have blood on its hands.”
Governor JB Pritzker signed the ban into law in 2023, months after Robert Crimo III used an assault weapon to murder seven people at the Highland Park 4th of July parade. Courts have repeatedly held that assault rifles are not protected
Indian American Students Drive Youth & Society Bootcamp
DUBLIN, CA — A Dublin High School senior helped launch the first Youth & Society Bootcamp, a weeklong program introducing students to local government, civic engagement, and public policy. More than 35 students participated.
The initiative was led by Adi Jain, a DHS senior, and Trishala Jain, a UC Berkeley graduate, inspired by their service on the Dublin Youth Advisory Council, Parks and Community Services Commission, and the DUSD Homework and Grading Committee. Wanting peers to gain similar experience, they proposed the pilot to the City of Dublin.
Held July 28–Aug. 1, the bootcamp gave students a behind-the-scenes look at city operations and decision-making. The week featured:
• Talks by Vice Mayor Kashef Qaadri, Councilmembers Jean Josey and John Morada
• Presentations by department heads on economic development, communications, AI ethics, and public sector careers
• Hands-on simulations such as balancing a city budget and designing a new park
• A Dublin-themed scavenger hunt and city trivia game
Students also worked in teams to identify community problems, develop solutions, and present policy proposals to a panel of city staff and leaders.
“Before this bootcamp, local government felt complicated and only for adults. Hearing directly from city leaders showed us our voices matter,” said one participant.
“They are putting Illinoisans in danger. If this challenge is successful, the Department of Justice will have blood on its hands.”
by the Second Amendment because they are “machine guns” designed for military use—not self-defense.
“AR-15s have no place in our communities. They don’t make anyone safer, and as a School Board Member, I’ve seen firsthand how these weapons have been used in mass shootings at schools, parks, and public gatherings,” said Amiwala, the first Gen Z elected official in the country. “Dhillon’s job is to defend civil rights. Instead, she’s defending the gun lobby. I can’t imagine a worse use of federal resources.”
Gun violence in America is common— but preventable. In Congress, Amiwala pledges to fight for long-overdue, common-sense reforms: universal background checks, waiting periods, and a nationwide assault weapons ban.
“We can respect the Second Amendment and keep our children safe,” Amiwala said. “That means keeping weapons of war off our streets. Protecting families cannot wait.”
Hindus Demand Removal of Lakshmi, Kali from French Beer
RENO, NV- Upset Hindus are urging Aveyron (southern France) based craft brewery Brasserie d'Olt to apologize and not use images of Hindu goddesses Lakshmi and Kali on its beer bottles and cans, calling it highly inappropriate. Distinguished Hindu statesman Rajan Zed, in a statement in Nevada (USA) today, said that inappropriate usage of sacred Hindu deities or concepts or symbols or icons for commercial or other agenda was not okay as it hurt the devotees.
Zed, who is president of Universal Society of Hinduism, indicated that goddesses Lakshmi and Kali were highly revered in Hinduism and they were meant to be worshipped in temples or home shrines and not to be used in selling beer. Moreover, linking a deity with an alcoholic beverage was very disrespectful, Zed added. Hinduism was the oldest and third largest religion of the world with about 1.2 billion adherents and a rich philosophical thought and it should not be taken frivolously. Symbols of any faith, larger or smaller, should not be mishandled, Rajan Zed noted. It was deeply trivializing of immensely venerated Hindu deities Lakshmi and Kali to be portrayed on a beer label,
Rep. Subramanyam Slams Hindu Temple Attacks
Congressman Suhas Subramanyam has strongly condemned recent attacks on Hindu temples across the United States, calling them “hateful” acts that reflect a broader rise in violence against places of worship. Speaking on the House floor, he emphasized that these incidents are not isolated but part of a troubling surge in hate and division nationwide. He urged stronger federal support for securing houses of worship and pledged to work across party lines to protect religious communities.
Recent attacks include anti-Hindu graffiti at the BAPS temple in Greenwood, Indiana, gunfire at the Sri Sri Radha Krishna Temple in Spanish Fork, Utah, and theft at a Santa Clara temple. Earlier in March, a temple in Chino Hills, California, was also vandalized. Advocacy groups such as the Coalition of Hindus of North America (CoHNA) and Hindu ACTion praised Subramanyam’s remarks and called on more lawmakers to denounce such attacks and support America’s Hindu community.
Dead Rat, Hate Letter Target Alderman
Zed added.
In Hinduism, Lakshmi is the goddess of good fortune and beauty and is also known as ‘world-mother’. Goddess Kali, who personifies Sakti or divine energy, is considered the goddess of time and change.
These Indian Pale Ale organic craft beers come “from a tradition dating back to the 18th century, these beers, intended for British colonial troops based in India, were given a high bitterness and alcohol content…”. Their 12 packs are priced at 49.90 €. Mandala (33 cl, 6.2% vol, 64 IBU, 25 EBC), which carries the image of goddess Lakshmi, is described as "refreshing organic blond beer with a subtle vegetal bitterness and herbaceous aromas".
Imperial Mandala (33 cl, 8% vol., 90 IBU, 16 EBC), which carries the image of goddess Kali, is stated to be "A double IPA-style blonde with resinous notes and a lingering bitterness." Sébastien Blaquière is said to be the driving force behind Brasserie d’Olt (artisan brewery since 1998), whose tagline is "Drink less, drink better!", and which is headquartered in Saint Geniez d’Olt et d’Aubraca commune in the department of Aveyron, southern France.
CHICAGO, IL- Chicago police said officers responded around 7:30 p.m. to a call in the 5600 block of North Western Avenue.
At the scene, they found a deceased rat left on the doorstep of Ald. Vasquez’s 40th Ward office along with a handwritten letter containing derogatory statements. Police said no arrests have been made and Area Three detectives are investigating. In a statement, Vasquez said the note included a threatening message taped to the office door that referred to undocumented immigrants as "vermin."
"In this current political climate, we take these threats seriously and are working with the Chicago Police Department to investigate. In the meantime, the 40th Ward Office will remain open. We are and will always be steadfast in our commitment to serving 40th Ward neighbors and supporting the rights of the immigrant community," he said.
The incident comes amid heightened tensions over federal immigration enforcement.

Sunil Gavaskar’s Third Innings: From Cricket to Saving Young Lives
Sunil Gavaskar, cricket’s “Little Master,” has taken on a new mission—helping children with congenital heart disease through the Heart to Heart Foundation.
The first man to score 10,000 Test runs, Gavaskar toured the US in August–September 2025 to raise awareness and funds for life-saving surgeries. Speaking in Phoenix, Arizona, he recalled his lucky break in 1971 when Sir Garfield Sobers dropped him twice, a chance that launched his

record-breaking career. Now, he is giving children a second chance at life.
The event drew nearly 300 people and featured cricket stories, a Bollywood-style airport welcome, and even Gavaskar’s dance moves. Fans enjoyed his humour as he recounted his only Test wicket, his favourite Bollywood stars, and his childhood nearmiss of being swapped at birth. He also entertained the crowd by smashing autographed pickleballs into the audience.
The Heart to Heart Foundation has already saved nearly 38,000 children, offering surgeries free at Sri Sathya Sai Sanjeevani Hospitals. The cost of saving one child is about $2,000. Donors in Phoenix received autographed bats, while Gavaskar himself stands among the foundation’s most generous supporters.
Blending cricket nostalgia with compassion, Gavaskar’s “third innings” is his most meaningful yet—saving young lives.

Celebrating 15 Years of Joy: Bloomington’s Festival Returns in 2025
CHICAGO, IL- On Sunday, September 7, 2025, downtown Bloomington, Illinois, came alive with colors, chants, and aromas as the 15th annual Festival of Joy, also known as the Sri Jagannath Ratha Yatra, took over Museum Square. From 2:00 PM to 7:00 PM, nearly 2,000 people gathered to celebrate a 3,000-year-old Indian tradition, re-created in the heart of the Midwest. Organized by the Hare Krishna Community of Bloomington-Normal, inspired by ISKCON, the festival blended devotion, culture, and community into an unforgettable day.
The Ratha Yatra, or Festival of Chariots, is the world’s longestrunning street festival, originating in Jagannatha Puri, India. In Bloomington, a flower-decked chariot rolled down Main Street, accompanied by drums, cymbals, and the chanting of kirtan. Children danced, elders sang, and the crowd clapped in unison, transforming the parade into a moving tapestry of devotion. The program began with emcees Surabhi and Vikhyath welcoming the audience, followed by remarks from dignitaries including Mayor Dan Brady, Police Chief Jamal Simington, and His Holiness Romapada Swami. Mayor Brady participated in sweeping the streets, symbolizing humility, while Chief Simington pledged community partnership and safety. Romapada Swami highlighted the festival’s spiritual roots, calling it a universal celebration of love.
A local couple, Sri Mandava Venkateswara Rao and Smt. Manasa
Rao, were honored for decades of service to the BloomingtonNormal community. From 2:00 to 5:00 PM, Museum Square offered cultural immersion—henna art, sari and turban draping, arts and crafts, and a “Spiritual Quotient” booth. Food stalls served authentic Indian cuisine, and a free vegetarian dinner fed over 900 guests. Performances brought vibrancy: Bhakti Kids dances, Hare Krishna community presentations, and the grand chariot procession at 3:00 PM. Later, classical dance groups and a final kirtan meditation united all in song.
A standout was Sita Vakkalanka, whose Bharatanatyam and Carnatic music performance drew ovations. Other highlights included a drama on ISKCON’s founder, intricate youth dances, mridanga drum showcases, and a closing Varaha Roopam dance. Yoga sessions, led by Sri Sri School of Yoga instructors, added a meditative dimension. Community partners like Sewa International, Visit BN, and local businesses amplified the festival’s reach. Since its humble start in 2010 and its move downtown in 2023, the event has grown into a Bloomington tradition that bridges cultures. The 2025 Festival of Joy reaffirmed that joy and unity transcend borders. As the chariot carried Lord Jagannath, Balaram, and Subadra through Bloomington’s streets, it also carried a message of love, gratitude, and togetherness—an enduring gift to the community.
Bera Warns of Rural Health Threat
HiIndia Newsdesk
WASHINGTON, D.C. -Representative Ami Bera (D-CA), a physician, joined fellow members of the Democratic Doctors Caucus and Planned Parenthood Federation of America CEO Alexis McGill Johnson in denouncing Republican-led efforts to cut Medicaid. They warned that a provision in a law signed by President Trump—dubbed the “Big, Ugly Bill”—could threaten healthcare access for more than a million Americans.
The measure, temporarily blocked by the courts, seeks to bar Medicaid patients from receiving care at Planned Parenthood. If enacted, it could force up to 200 health centers to close, jeopardizing care for 1.1 million Medicaid patients.
Bera stressed that Planned Parenthood provides far more than reproductive healthcare. “In many communities, they’re the sole provider of primary care services to women and men,” he said, noting that in rural and underserved areas, the centers are often the only source for cancer screenings, STI testing, and chronic disease management.
“What Donald Trump’s bill does is take away those community health services from so many Americans, particularly in rural America,” Bera added, accusing Republicans of deliberately targeting essential care. He reaffirmed that Democratic doctors remain committed to fighting back and holding Republicans accountable.

WASHINGTON, D.C.- Republican Senator Bernie Moreno (R-OH) has introduced new legislation aimed at discouraging companies from outsourcing jobs and hiring foreign workers. The proposed bill, titled the Halting International Relocation of Employment (HIRE) Act, would impose a 25% tax on payments made to foreign workers. Revenue from this tax would fund workforce development and apprenticeship programs designed to strengthen the American middle class. In announcing the measure, Senator Moreno said the bill would “hit them where it hurts: their pocketbooks” if companies choose to employ foreign workers instead of Americans. He emphasized the importance of fighting
NY Assemblywoman Jenifer Rajkumar Shines on Runway
NEW YORK, NY – The city was abuzz this Wednesday as Assemblywoman Jenifer Rajkumar lit up the runway at Style Across the Aisle, an inspiring event that brings together New York’s fashion, civic, and cultural communities to celebrate emerging local designers.
Hundreds applauded as Assemblywoman Rajkumar, the first Indian American woman elected to New York State Office, walked in a strikingly colorful creation by rising label Soara. Founded by Surya Garg, also the daughter of Indian-American immigrants, Soara blends South Asian heritage with contemporary American style. In tribute to her roots and the vibrancy of New York’s Indian American community, Rajkumar named her dress Rajkumari—Hindi for “princess.”
“I walk the runway every day on the streets of New York, and this
week I did it on a bigger stage,” said Assemblywoman Rajkumar. “Just as fashion is about expressing identity and confidence, my role in public service is about empowering every New Yorker to stand tall and proud. My goal is a state where everyone walks a wide open runway to opportunity.”
Style Across the Aisle is a signature event of New York Fashion Week, pairing political leaders with designers to showcase how fashion and public life intersect. The annual showcase has raised more than $75,000 for charity, celebrating small business, creativity, and the power of fashion to unite people across communities and ideologies.
When asked about rumors she may be moving to Paris for a full-time career in fashion, Assemblywoman Rajkumar declined to comment.
for working-class families and ensuring that Americans can “work and retire with dignity,” particularly as many college graduates struggle to find jobs.
The proposal follows growing criticism of U.S. immigration and labor policies.
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis recently called the H-1B visa program a “total scam,” arguing it allows companies to train and then replace American workers with foreign labor—practices he described as “unacceptable” and damaging to U.S. workers.
Senator Moreno has previously pushed for tougher penalties on executives who hire illegal immigrants. With the HIRE Act, he seeks to further protect American jobs by discouraging companies from outsourcing in pursuit of lower wages abroad.
Apple Introduces RecordBreaking Slim iPhone, Crafted by Abidur Chowdhury
CUPERTINO, CA – In a departure from tradition, Apple’s Cupertino launch event spotlighted designer Abidur Chowdhury instead of executives like CEO Tim Cook. Calm and confident, Chowdhury introduced the device as “a paradox you have to hold to believe”—a blend of innovation and elegance. The iPhone Air is one-third thinner than its predecessors and features a single telephoto lens powered by AI-driven photography. Despite its slimmer, high-density battery, advanced power-saving technology enables all-day performance—what Chowdhury described as the project’s greatest challenge.
A London-born industrial designer of Bangladeshi heritage,
Chowdhury joined Apple in 2019 after founding Abidur Chowdhury Design and collaborating with agencies and startups. He previously worked at Layer Design in London and completed internships at Cambridge Consultants and Curventa.
Chowdhury holds a degree in Product Design and Technology from Loughborough University, where he received the 3D Hubs Student Grant, the James Dyson Foundation Bursary, and a Red Dot Design Award in 2016. On his personal website, he highlights a passion for problem-solving and creating products people “can’t bear to be without.”

Charges Filed Against NYPD Officers Who Shot and Killed Teen Bangladeshi Win Rozario
NEW YORK, NY- The New York City Civilian Complaint Review Board (CCRB) has substantiated eight allegations of misconduct against NYPD Officers Salvatore Alongi and Matthew Cianfrocco for their role in the killing of 19-year-old Bagnladeshi Win Rozario on March 27, 2024. Each officer faces four charges, including excessive force and abuse of authority. The CCRB also referred other allegations, outside its jurisdiction, to the NYPD for further investigation. Alongi and Cianfrocco tased Rozario multiple times and shot him five times within two minutes of arriving at the family’s Queens apartment, killing him in front of his mother and younger brother. The substantiated allegations require “departmental charges and specifications,” the most serious form of discipline, which can lead to termination. The CCRB will prosecute the officers in departmental trials, but ultimate authority over discipline rests with the NYPD Commissioner. Rozario’s mother, Notan Eva Costa, said: “The past year and a half have been incredibly hard. I still feel the

Dismissed FBI Officials Allege Kash Patel Fired Them Over Politics
WASHINGTON, D.C.-Three former FBI officials dismissed last month have sued the Trump administration, alleging they were unlawfully fired in a political “campaign of retribution” for refusing to show loyalty to former President Donald Trump. Filed September 10 in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, the lawsuit names as defendants the FBI and Director Kash Patel, the Justice Department and Attorney General Pam Bondi, the Executive Office of the President, and the federal government. According to the complaint, the officials were targeted for “refusals to politicize the FBI” and dismissed on August 8 through “cursory, single-page letters” that violated federal law and the Constitution. Each plaintiff had decades of service in counterterrorism
and violent crime prevention. The filing asserts Patel “prioritized politicizing the FBI over protecting the American people,” undermining national security by removing senior experts.
One plaintiff, Brian J. Driscoll, briefly served as acting FBI director earlier this year. On January 29, he was pressured to provide a list of approximately 6,000 FBI personnel involved in the January 6 Capitol riot investigation. The complaint says Patel vowed to remove all employees connected to Trumprelated cases, telling Driscoll, “The FBI tried to put the President in jail and he hasn’t forgotten it.”
The FBI has investigated Trump in matters including Russian election interference, the Capitol riot, and classified documents found at Mar-aLago. Trump has dismissed these probes as politically motivated “witch hunts.”
There isn’t a day I don’t miss my son. CCRB’s decision gives us some relief that they see Win’s life mattered. But Mayor Adams and Commissioner Tisch continue to ignore us, and Attorney General James still hasn’t indicted these officers. We’ll keep fighting until Alongi and Cianfrocco are fired so they can’t harm any other New Yorkers.” Community advocates echoed the call for accountability. Loyda Colon, Executive Director of the Justice Committee, stressed that firing should have happened long ago and urged the NYPD to move quickly rather than delay. Simran Thind of Desis Rising
Up & Moving emphasized that the officers violated protocols and must be removed to prevent further harm. Attorney Luna Droubi called the CCRB decision an important, though incomplete, step toward accountability and urged the city to end police involvement in mental health crises. Rozario, who was at home in Ozone Park, was killed less than two minutes after officers entered. Immediately afterward, police forced his mother and younger brother into lengthy interrogations, denying them the chance to accompany him to the hospital. The NYPD barred the family from their home for more than two days, even refusing access to medication and their cat. For weeks, the NYPD withheld the officers’ names, which were only revealed when the Attorney General released bodycamera footage in May 2024. Since then, the family and supporters have demanded termination and prosecution, as well as the removal of police from mental health response. To date, Mayor Adams, Commissioner Tisch, and Attorney General James have failed to act.
IPA Essay Contest Highlights Young Voices Tackling Social Problems
SAN FRANCISCO, CA — The India Philanthropy Alliance (IPA) has announced the winners of its 6th Annual Youth Essay Competition, celebrating young leaders for their innovative solutions to challenges

This year’s high school winner, Aneesh Gupta, addressed the often-overlooked problem of unregistered births. “Making sure that a child’s birth is registered might not seem like a big deal, but it is actually one of the most transformative acts you can do to ensure a child’s future,” Gupta explained. To further the cause, he will donate his $1,000 prize to CRY America, which supports birth registration initiatives.
The middle school winner, Eesha Kondapalli, focused on the urgent need to combat rabies, which

FDA Blocks Unsafe GLP-1 Drug Imports with “Green List”
WASHINGTON, DC-The U.S. Food and Drug Administration today announced the establishment of a “green list” import alert to block potentially dangerous GLP-1 (glucagon-like peptide-1) active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) from unverified foreign sources from entering the U.S. market. This action strengthens the agency’s efforts to protect patients and secure the drug supply chain against illegal imports.
Certain GLP-1 drugs, including semaglutide and tirzepatide, are FDAapproved for the treatment of type 2 diabetes and, in some cases, chronic weight management. However, the FDA is aware that some patients are using compounded versions of these drugs, which are not FDA-approved. To better protect these patients, the new green list identifies GLP-1 APIs from facilities that have been inspected or otherwise evaluated by the FDA and found to meet the agency’s rigorous manufacturing standards. APIs from all other foreign sources will be subject to detention without physical examination.
“Americans should be confident that the prescription drugs they take are
safe,” said FDA Commissioner Marty Makary, M.D., M.P.H. “By strengthening oversight of imported APIs and cracking down on illegal drugs entering the U.S., we are taking aggressive action to protect consumers from poor-quality or dangerous GLP-1 drugs.”
“Our priority is protecting public health by ensuring all active ingredients used in GLP-1 drugs are obtained from compliant manufacturers,” said George Tidmarsh, M.D., Ph.D., Director of the FDA’s Center for Drug Evaluation and Research. “Targeting illegal foreign GLP-1 active ingredients at the border is a critical part of this work.”
The FDA has previously raised concerns regarding compounded versions of semaglutide and tirzepatide, citing risks such as dosing errors, use of unapproved salt forms, and serious adverse events— some requiring hospitalization.
The agency will continue to coordinate with state regulators, monitor the marketplace, and take enforcement actions as necessary to keep unsafe or fraudulent GLP-1 drugs from reaching U.S. consumers.
Bushra Amiwala Gets NDFA Backing
CHICAGO, IL— Northside Democracy for America (NDFA), a leading progressive coalition in the Chicago area for two decades, has endorsed Bushra Amiwala in the race for Congress in Illinois’ 9th District.
“I’m honored to earn NDFA’s endorsement. For twenty years, this group has championed the same values I fight for—access to education, housing, and healthcare,” said Bushra Amiwala, elected member of the Skokie School District 73.5 Board. “The process was competitive, with many candidates presenting strong ideas. I’m grateful for NDFA’s confidence in my record and my plan to increase federal education funding and advance universal healthcare. I look forward to working
with NDFA to engage voters across IL-9.”
NDFA is one of Illinois’ largest grassroots political organizations, mobilizing volunteers behind candidates who reject corporate PAC money and who are vetted as advocates for everyday people. “I’ve spent my career serving this community, and I know we deserve better than the division that defines today’s politics,” Amiwala added. “That’s why this local endorsement means so much—and sets the tone for who we want representing us. With NDFA’s support comes a responsibility to stand up for everyone in IL-9. I don’t take that lightly.” Amiwala is among the first Gen Z elected officials in the country.
Local endorsements like NDFA’s have made Amiwala a frontrunner in a crowded field; as of mid-September 2025, twenty candidates are running to represent Illinois’ 9th District. The primary election is scheduled for March 17, 2026.

Poorva Joshipura Becomes First President of PETA International
HiIndia Newsdesk
SUFFOLK, VA — Animal rights advocate Poorva Joshipura has been named the first president of PETA International, marking a significant expansion of her leadership role within the global animal protection movement. Formerly on PETA India’s board of directors, she will now oversee operations and campaigns across Europe, Asia, and parts of the Middle East.
Joshipura’s association with PETA began in 1999, when she joined as an intern at the organization’s headquarters in Norfolk, Virginia. Born in Philadelphia to parents from Gujarat, and a graduate of Old Dominion University, she has since emerged as one of the most recognizable leaders in the animal rights movement.
Her activism has often been bold and unconventional. She has been jailed for disrupting a New York fashion show, “caged” herself in
Nairobi to protest the treatment of chickens, and recently volunteered to be “experimented on” in Delhi to spotlight animal testing in laboratories.
Under her leadership, PETA has driven major policy and industry changes worldwide. Mercedes-Benz became
the first carmaker to provide leatherfree interiors, India banned animal testing for cosmetics, and horse-drawn carriages were outlawed in Petra, Jordan, as well as in Mumbai.
As president, Joshipura plans to advance technology-driven animal
US’ Biggest E-Cigarette Crackdown
CHICAGO, IL– During a weeklong enforcement action in Chicago, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), working with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), seized more than four million units of unauthorized e-cigarette products valued at over $86 million. Officials called it the largest seizure of its kind, part of a federal operation to block illegal e-cigarettes from entering the country.
The joint effort followed months of planning and coordination between CBP and the FDA. Investigators uncovered multiple shipments, almost all originating from China, destined for U.S. markets. The shipments were examined for violations of FDA premarket authorization, federal revenue laws, intellectual property protections, and hazardous materials labeling requirements. In total, authorities intercepted nearly 4.7 million e-cigarettes with a manufacturer’s suggested retail price exceeding $86.5 million.
“Parents, teachers, coaches, and others concerned about our kids should be alarmed,” said CBP Commissioner Rodney Scott. “There is no telling what dangers are inside these products or the conditions of the facilities that made them. I urge everyone to do research and know what you are buying.”
The seizures are part of the FDA’s broader strategy to combat youth vaping. The agency is also targeting “port shopping,” where shippers repeatedly attempt to move illegal products through different ports, disrupting distribution networks, educating parents on vaping risks, and working with retailers to prevent unlawful sales. Prior to the operation, FDA and CBP investigators identified likely noncompliant shipments and improved review efficiency based on earlier enforcement actions. Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. emphasized: “We will never allow foreign actors to threaten the health of America’s children. Today we took decisive action to protect kids from illegal vape products.”
FDA Commissioner Marty Makary, M.D., M.P.H., reinforced that any e-cigarette product lacking FDA authorization will be seized, detained, or destroyed. To date, the FDA has authorized only 39 e-cigarette products for legal sale in the U.S.
In addition to product seizures, the FDA contacted 37 importers and entry filers responsible for the shipments, reminding them of their legal obligations and warning that false statements to the government are federal crimes. Firms were directed to provide corrective information within 30 days.

protection. Initiatives include the use of mechanical elephants in temples across Asia and animatronic animals in education. She also aims to draw stronger connections between animal welfare and broader issues such as pandemics and climate change.
“Poorva has been an unstoppable force in the animal liberation movement,” said PETA founder Ingrid Newkirk.
“Her extraordinary drive and determination are invaluable in extending our vital efforts to help animals everywhere.” Joshipura, author of For a Moment of Taste and Survival at Stake, emphasized her commitment to innovation and cultural awareness. “How we treat animals defines us,” she said.

AAPI Launches First Nationwide Campaign to Expand Stem Cell Donor Pool Among Indians
CHICAGO, IL - In a groundbreaking initiative, the American Association of Physicians of Indian Origin (AAPI) has launched the first-ever nationwide campaign to expand the stem cell donor pool for Indian patients. The effort, introduced in 2024 under the leadership of AAPI’s immediate past president, Dr. Satheesh Kathula, addresses a critical gap in cancer treatment, where Indian patients face severe challenges finding compatible donors due to ethnicityspecific Human Leukocyte Antigen (HLA) matching.
Urgency Behind the Mission
“Stem cell transplants are a vital treatment for blood cancers such as leukemia and lymphoma,” said Dr. Amit Chakrabarty, AAPI President, thanking local chapters, students, and volunteers nationwide. “Since HLA markers are

inherited and vary by ethnicity, Indian patients are more likely to match with
Indian donors. That’s why expanding the Indian donor pool is urgent and lifesaving.”
Until now, families often organized donor drives independently, compounding the emotional and
medical burdens of cancer care.
Recognizing this unmet need, AAPI partnered with the National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP), the world’s largest stem cell registry, to launch a unified nationwide campaign.
Mobilizing Communities Across the U.S.
Dr. Sashi Kuppala, Chair of the Stem Cell Drive, explained: “Thousands of patients rely on transplants to survive, but donor matching is ethnicity-specific. This campaign is receiving tremendous support from AAPI members and the wider Indian community.”
Since November 2024, AAPI has organized drives in more than 20 U.S. cities with strong participation from high school and college students, who also receive volunteer certificates. Dr. Hetal Gor, Chair of AAPI BOT, emphasized, “You could
be someone’s only match—their only hope. The donation process is safe and complication-free.”
Expanding the Effort to India
Building on U.S. momentum, AAPI is partnering with the Global Association of Indian Medical Students and DATRI, India’s stem cell bank, to launch drives at the Global Health Summit in Bhubaneswar in January 2026, with plans to expand to medical schools across India. Dr. Meher Medavaram, President-Elect, highlighted the simplicity of registration through cheek swab kits, while other leaders underscored the urgency: nearly 70% of patients lack a family match, and for Indians, the odds are even lower. For information or to organize a drive, contact: Sashikuppala@yahoo.com or visit www.aapiusa.org

Skokie School Board Member Condemns ICE Activity Near Local High School
EVANSTON, IL—U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement personnel were reportedly present near Evanston Township High School on Wednesday. Skokie School District 73.5 Board Member and Congressional candidate Bushra Amiwala issued the following statement: “I visited Evanston Township High School today to meet with students in civics class. Their enthusiasm for the political process left me feeling hopeful about the future of our country.
Shortly after, I learned that ICE agents had entered the community where I had spoken. This is a troubling overreach of federal authority that inflicts unnecessary fear and anguish.
While we don’t yet know the full details of the agents’ actions, what we do know is this: sending armed, masked agents into a neighborhood full of schoolchildren is cruel and traumatic. Racist law enforcement practices like this have no place in America. I call on the administration to stop terrorizing our students, neighbors, and families.”
