Yemen Chats Expose Potentially Catastrophic Consequences for US Pilots

The Atlantic said experts had repeatedly told them that using a Signal chat for such sensitive discussions "poses a threat to national security".

The Atlantic has published leaked Signal chat messages revealing discussions among senior US officials about a planned attack on the Houthis in Yemen. Despite denials from President Trump and top officials that classified information was shared, the leaked messages reportedly included precise aircraft launch times, raising concerns about national security risks.

Editor-in-Chief Jeffrey Goldberg was inadvertently added to the Signal group chat, which included Vice President JD Vance, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, CIA Director John Ratcliffe, National Security Adviser Mike Waltz, Secretary of State Marco Antonio Rubio, and others. The

magazine emphasized that it had received details of the attack more than two hours before the first strikes, potentially exposing US pilots to increased danger if the information had been compromised.

The Atlantic justified its decision

Trump announces 25% tariffs on car imports to US

US President Donald Trump has announced new import taxes of 25% on cars and car parts coming into the US in a move that threatens to widen the global trade war.

Trump said the latest tariffs would come into effect on 2 April, with charges on businesses importing vehicles starting the next day. Charges on parts are set to start in May or later.

The president claimed the measure would lead to "tremendous growth" for the car industry, promising it would spur jobs and investment in the US.

But analysts have said the move is likely to lead to the temporary shutdown of significant car production in the US, increase prices, and strain relations with allies. The US imported roughly eight million cars last year, accounting for about $240bn (£186bn) in trade and roughly half of overall sales.

to publish the full chat texts after officials accused the magazine of fabricating claims. Defense Secretary Hegseth had insisted that "nobody was texting war plans," while Trump and others dismissed concerns, claiming no classified information was shared. However, experts have warned

that discussing sensitive military operations over an unsecured chat poses a major security risk.

The leaked messages revealed that Hegseth detailed aircraft takeoff times, with the first F-18s launching at 12:15 ET and the second wave at 14:10 ET. Waltz also shared details about a targeted strike in Sanaa, prompting celebratory messages from Vice President Vance.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt objected to the publication of the chats, calling it a breach of private deliberations. She reiterated that no classified details were leaked but acknowledged that the National Security Council was investigating how a journalist was added to the conversation. The scandal is seen as a major challenge for Trump's administration, with critics calling for the resignations of Hegseth and Waltz. However, officials maintain that no war plans were leaked and insist that Trump remains committed to protecting American interests.

Trump Officials Criticize Journalist After Signal Leak

The White House reacted furiously on Wednesday after The Atlantic magazine published messages between national security officials in a Signal group chat in their entirety.

President Donald Trump called the

reporting "all a witch hunt" and declared the publication a "failed magazine".

Jeffrey Goldberg, the journalist who was inadvertently included in the chat among senior cabinet leaders, shared texts in which US defence secretary Pete Hegseth provided sensitive information such as detailed timetables and unit information ahead of a US strike in Yemen.

Goldberg said he decided to publish the information after the Trump administration accused him of lying that classified information was shared. Officials continued to maintain that position after the new messages were published.

Donald Trump Backs Down on Greenland Issue – Usha Vance’s Visit Restricted

Facing strong opposition over Washington’s plan to "buy" Greenland, Donald Trump has revised the US approach to the semi-autonomous Danish territory. A planned visit by Second Lady Usha Vance to Greenland's capital Nuuk has been canceled amid widespread anti-American protests. Originally, Usha Vance was to attend the annual dog-sled race and meet Greenlandic officials alongside National Security Adviser Mike Waltz and Energy Secretary Chris Wright. However, after Greenland’s acting head of government, Mute Egede, called the visit a “provocation,” the White

House changed plans. Instead, Vice President JD Vance will now lead the delegation, but their visit will be restricted to the US Space and Military Base at Pituffik in northern Greenland. Denmark also criticized the visit, calling it “unacceptable pressure.” Hours later, Washington revised the itinerary, a move welcomed by Danish Foreign Minister Lars Lokke Rasmussen. However, critics argue the decision was made out of necessity, fearing protests with banners reading "Yankees go home." The visit will now take place from March 27 to March 29, 2025, but without any interaction with Greenland’s civilian leadership or public events.

Donald Trump Proposes Voting Reform, Cites India as Example

Donald Trump said the right of American citizens to have their votes properly counted and tabulated, "without illegal dilution", is vital to determining the rightful winner of an election.

Washington – President Donald Trump signed an executive order on Tuesday introducing major election reforms, including requiring proof of US citizenship to vote, restricting mail-in ballots to those received by Election Day, and barring foreign nationals from making election donations.

Trump pointed to countries like India and Brazil, which link voter ID to biometric databases, and Germany and Canada, which rely on paper ballots. He criticized the US for lacking such "basic election protections."

Key Provisions of Trump’s Order:

Proof of Citizenship:

Voters must provide documents like a passport or birth certificate. States

must share voter lists with federal agencies for verification.

Mail-In Ballots:

Only ballots received by Election Day will be counted. Federal funding will depend on state compliance.

Voting Systems:

QR/barcode-based ballots will no longer be used. Election systems must be reviewed and re-certified within six months.

Foreign Donations:

Non-US citizens and foreign entities are prohibited from contributing to US elections.

Trump emphasized that secure elections are vital for public trust, maintaining that polls must be "free, fair, and honest."

"Sham War Plans": Pentagon Chief Slams The Atlantic Over "Leaked" Chat

In the leaked chat, Pete Hegseth revealed details including the times of strikes on Iranbacked Houthi rebels and the type of aircraft, missiles used.

US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth has criticized The Atlantic and its editor, Jeff Goldberg, after the magazine published transcripts of messages mistakenly shared in a Signal chat by top US officials.

Hegseth dismissed the so-called “war plan,” insisting it contained "no names, targets, locations, units, routes, sources, methods, or classified information." He accused Goldberg of lacking knowledge of military planning, stating, “We will continue to do our job, while the media does what it does best: peddle hoaxes,” in a post on X.

The Atlantic initially withheld details but released them on Thursday after the White House insisted no classified information was shared. The messages included details on US strikes against Iran-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen—

specifically the timing of attacks and the weapons used.

President Donald Trump dismissed the controversy as a “witch hunt,” defending Hegseth amid Democratic calls for his resignation. “Hegseth is doing a great job, he had nothing to do with this,” Trump said, adding that National Security Advisor Mike Waltz had “taken responsibility” for the error. US Vice President JD Vance also downplayed the scandal, saying The Atlantic had exaggerated the incident. Meanwhile, Secretary of State Marco Rubio admitted a “big mistake” but emphasized his limited role in the matter.

China tariffs may be cut to seal TikTok sale, Trump says

US President Donald Trump says he may cut tariffs on China to help seal a deal for short video app TikTok to be sold by its owner ByteDance.

Trump also said he is willing to extend a 5 April deadline for a nonChinese buyer of the platform to be found.

In January, he delayed the implementation of a law passed under the Biden administration to ban TikTok.

The legislation, which was signed into law in 2024, cited national security grounds for the sell or be banned order.

"With respect to TikTok, and China is going to have to play a role in that, possibly in the form of an approval, maybe, and I think they'll do that," Trump told reporters on Wednesday. "Maybe I'll give them a little reduction in tariffs or something to get it done," he added.

Trump also said he expected at least the outline of a deal to be reached by the 5 April deadline.

He made the comments after announcing new import taxes of 25% on all cars and car parts coming into the US in a move that threatens to widen the global trade war.

The BBC has contacted TikTok and the Chinese embassy in Washington for comment.

The biggest sticking point to finalising a deal to sell the TikTok business, which is worth tens of billions of dollars, has always been securing Beijing's agreement.

Hostages To Return "In Coffins" If Israel Tries To Free Them By Force: Hamas

The group said in a statement that it was "doing everything possible to keep the occupation's captives alive, but the random Zionist (Israeli) bombardment is endangering their lives".

Doha: Palestinian operator group Hamas warned on Wednesday that hostages may be killed if Israel attempts to retrieve them by force and air strikes continue in the Gaza Strip.

The group said in a statement that it was "doing everything possible to keep the occupation's captives alive, but the random Zionist (Israeli) bombardment is endangering their lives".

"Every time the occupation attempts to retrieve its captives by force, it ends up bringing them back in coffins," it said.

Israel restarted intense air strikes across the densely populated Gaza Strip last week followed by ground

operations, shattering the relative calm afforded by a January ceasefire with Hamas.

Since Israel resumed its military operations in Gaza, at least 830 Palestinians have been killed, according to the health ministry in the Hamas-run territory.

The war was sparked by the operator group's October 7, 2023, attack on Israel, which resulted in the deaths of 1,218 people, mostly civilians, according to an AFP tally based on official figures. Israel's retaliatory military offensive has killed at least 50,183 people in Gaza, mostly civilians, according to the health ministry.

India must be cautious in trade pact talks with US amid legislative risks in America: GTRI

India must be cautious while negotiating the proposed bilateral trade agreement with the US, as the absence of Fast Track Trade Authority in America makes any pact vulnerable to Congressional changes, economic think tank GTRI said on Tuesday.

It also said that the certification process allows the US to effectively re-negotiate the trade agreement after it is signed, demanding domestic legal changes, regulatory reforms, and policy shifts that could undermine India's sovereignty.

"As negotiations continue, the path forward demands not only diplomatic skill but also vigilance against legal asymmetries embedded in America's trade playbook," Global Trade Research Initiative (GTRI) Founder Ajay Srivastava said.

Without the Fast Track Authority in place and with the precedent of post-agreement certification allowing the US to impose additional demands, the risk of asymmetric obligations is real, he added.

The US Fast Track Trade Authority (also known as Trade Promotion Authority) is a special mechanism that allows the American President to negotiate trade agreements and present them to Congress for an up-ordown vote, without amendments or procedural delays.

Amid US President Donald Trump's plan to impose reciprocal tariffs on April 2, Indian and American officials will start formal talks on the proposed trade agreement from March 26

This authority has historically played a key role in finalising and approving FTAs (Free Trade Agreements) swiftly, having enabled major agreements such as the North American Free Trade Agreement.

Hyundai unveils $21bn US expansion as Trump

tariffs loom

South Korean carmaking giant Hyundai has unveiled $21bn (£16.3bn) of investment in the US just days before President Donald Trump is set to impose new tariffs on trading partners. The plan includes a new $5.8bn steel plant in the southern state of Louisiana. Hyundai also said it will expand its American vehicle production and invest billions of dollars in new technology

Chinese electric carmaker BYD sales beat Tesla

Chinese electric vehicle maker BYD has reported annual revenue for 2024 that has leapfrogged rival Tesla. The Shenzhen-based firm says revenue rose by 29% to come in at 777 billion yuan ($107bn; £83bn), boosted by sales of its hybrid vehicles. This topped the $97.7bn reported by Elon Musk's Tesla.

including autonomous driving and artificial intelligence (AI).

"This investment is a clear demonstration that tariffs very strongly work," Trump said during the event at the White House on Monday.

He added that more tariffs on vehicle imports are likely to be announced this week.Hyundai said the new steelmaking facility will produce more than 2.7 million metric tons of steel a year and create more than 1,400 jobs.

Srivastava said that however, since 2021, this authority has lapsed and has not been renewed and without this authority, any trade agreement negotiated by the US President is exposed to Congressional scrutiny, possible amendments, delays, or outright rejection. He added that even more concerning for India is the US's post-FTA certification mechanism, a practice where America unilaterally determines whether a partner country has fulfilled its obligations under the agreement.

The agreement does not enter into force until the US issues this certification, which historically has been used to pressure countries into making additional legal and policy changes not specified in the original FTA text, Srivastava said.

"These two factors create serious uncertainty. They can allow the US to change the deal later or demand more than what was originally agreed. India must proceed with caution as it negotiates its FTA with the US. The absence of the authority exposes any finalised agreement to unpredictable legislative intervention in Washington," he said. Amid US President Donald Trump's plan to impose reciprocal tariffs on April 2, Indian and American officials will start formal talks on the proposed trade agreement from Wednesday here.

US trade delegation to visit India amid reciprocal tariff negotiations

A trade delegation from the United States is going to visit India from March 25-29 to hold talks with their Indian counterpart as the deadline for ‘reciprocal tariff’ nears.

The US delegation will be led by Brendan Lynch, assistant trade representative for South and Central Asia.

“The visit reflects the United States’ continued commitment to advancing a productive and balanced trade relationship with India,” a US embassy spokesperson said on Monday. The negotiation is going to take place in the backdrop of the April 2 deadline

“The...transaction is in the nature of an acquisition of shares, voting rights and falls under section 5 of the Competition Act, 2002,” said a notice filed with the CCI on March 20.

While the threat of tariffs which will hurt Indian export looms, the two countries are also beginning negotiations on a free trade agreement which may be a reality by the second half of this year.

China frees staff of US consultancy firm after two

years

China has released five staff members of US due diligence firm Mintz Group, two years after they were detained as part of a crackdown on consulting firms working with foreign businesses. Their detention in March 2023 came at a time of heightened suspicion of foreign espionage in China and kicked off a wave of raids on consultancy firms such as Bain & Company and Capvision Partners. "We are grateful to the Chinese authorities that our former colleagues can now be home with their families," Mintz Group said in a statement.

'High Side Inboxes' & 'BAM Shipping': Unpacking Trump’s Leaked Yemen War Plan

On Wednesday, The Atlantic published leaked Signal chat messages showing how top Trump administration officials mistakenly shared classified U.S. airstrike plans against Iran-backed Houthis in Yemen with journalist Jeffrey Goldberg. The chat group, titled “Houthi PC small group,” included 19 senior officials, such as National Security Advisor Mike Waltz, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, Vice President JD Vance, and CIA Director John Ratcliffe. Waltz admitted to accidentally adding Goldberg to the chat, exposing sensitive discussions. The conversations, starting on March 11, detailed preparations for strikes, including selecting officials for coordination. On March 13, Waltz directed members to check their "high side inboxes" for conclusions based on the president’s guidance. Discussions also covered notifying regional allies and partners, with concerns raised over how the strikes would affect trade and oil prices. Vance voiced skepticism, warning that only 3%

of U.S. trade passed through the Suez Canal, while 40% of Europe’s did. He suggested delaying the attack to better communicate its necessity. Joe Kent, nominee for National Counterterrorism

Center director, agreed there was no urgency, while Ratcliffe assured that a delay would not harm CIA operations. Hegseth, however, pushed for immediate action, arguing that waiting could lead to leaks, Israeli preemptive strikes, or disruptions in Gaza peace talks. He emphasized the need to frame the attack as restoring freedom of navigation and deterring Iran while blaming the Biden administration’s past failures. Despite his objections, Vance ultimately supported the plan, stating, “If you think we should do it,

let’s go. I just hate bailing Europe out again.” Hegseth shared his frustration with European “freeloading” but acknowledged the U.S. was the only country capable of executing the mission.

On March 15, the day of the attack, Hegseth posted a “TEAM UPDATE” at 11:44 AM, confirming favorable weather and mission launch. Strike packages of F-18s and MQ-9 drones were deployed in phases, with the first bombs scheduled to drop at 2:15 PM. Later, Waltz reported that a key Houthi missile leader was confirmed inside a collapsed building. Vance responded, “Excellent,” and Ratcliffe added, “A good start.” The chat continued with praise from officials, including White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles, who commended the CENTCOM team. Trump’s Middle East peace negotiator, Steve Witkoff, responded with patriotic emojis, and Tulsi Gabbard concluded, “Great work and effects!”

The leak has raised serious concerns over security breaches within the administration and the handling of military decisions through unsecured platforms.

"They Invited Me, Now They're Attacking Me": Journalist in Signal Chat Speaks to BBC

Jeffrey Goldberg, editor of The Atlantic, became a prime target of Trump administration officials after publishing a bombshell story revealing how top U.S. officials mistakenly shared sensitive military plans with him in a Signal group chat.

pointed out that Signal requires existing contacts. Waltz has asked Elon Musk to investigate, which Goldberg mocked: "Most 8-year-olds could figure this out."

Washington:

Federal authorities have detained an international student studying at Tufts University near Boston and have revoked their visa, the university said in a statement Tuesday night. Tufts said the graduate student was taken into US custody from an off-campus apartment building in Somerville, Massachusetts and that it had no further details about the incident or the circumstances surrounding the student's status. Representatives for the US Department of Homeland Security, US Customs and Border Protection and the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement could not be immediately reached for comment on the university's statement.

President Trump called Goldberg a "sleazebag," while National Security Advisor Michael Waltz, who mistakenly added him to the chat, labeled him "scum." However, before the fallout, Goldberg silently observed high-ranking officials—including Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, CIA Director John Ratcliffe, and Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard— discussing military operations in Yemen.

In an interview with the BBC, Goldberg described how Waltz messaged him out of the blue on the encrypted Signal app. Assuming it was a hoax, he accepted the request, only to find himself in a confidential group chat. "I wish there was a Le Carré quality here," he said, referring to the spy novelist. Waltz has since claimed he mistakenly invited Goldberg instead of someone else. However, the journalist

Initially, The Atlantic withheld details of the Yemen strike on March 14, but when officials dismissed the story as a lie, the magazine published the full chat. The messages included specific strike times and weapon details. Despite officials insisting the discussion didn’t involve classified information, Goldberg disagrees. "If the defense secretary texts me saying bombs will fall in two hours, that seems like warplanning to me," he said.

Trump has defended Hegseth and dismissed the leak as a "press witch-hunt." However, Goldberg highlighted concerns about accountability, noting that lowerranking officers would face severe consequences for such a breach.

Goldberg ultimately left the chat but believes the administration mishandled the situation. "They invited me in, and now they’re attacking me," he said, summing up the bizarre episode. (Content Courtsy : BBC)

Goldberg silently observed high-ranking officials—including Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, CIA Director John Ratcliffe, and Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard—discussing military operations in Yemen.

U.S. Intel Report Ties India to Fentanyl Trade as Trump Warns of Tariffs

"China remains the primary source country for illicit fentanyl precursor chemicals and pill pressing equipment, followed by India," the report said.

Washington: The United States has named India, along with China, a "state actor" in enabling direct and indirect supply of precursor chemicals for illicit fentanyl drug production by criminal organisations. The use of fentanyl, among other synthetic opioids, is the most lethal drug trafficked into the United States, and has claimed the lives of more than 52,000 Americans in 12 months ending in October 2024, according to the Annual Threat Assessment (ATA) of the US intelligence community released on Tuesday.

"These groups [transnational criminal organisations or TCOs] are often enabled, both directly and indirectly, by state actors, such as China and India, as sources of precursors and equipment for drug traffickers," the report published by the office of Tulsi Gabbard, US Director of National

PM Modi Reaffirms Commitment in Letter to Bangladesh’s Muhammad Yunus

Amid strained ties between Delhi and Dhaka, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has written to Muhammad Yunus, chief advisor to Bangladesh’s interim government, extending wishes on Bangladesh’s Independence Day and reaffirming India’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations. In his letter, PM Modi highlighted the shared history and sacrifices that form the foundation of India-Bangladesh ties. "The spirit of the Liberation War of Bangladesh continues to remain a guiding light for our relationship, which has flourished across multiple domains, bringing tangible benefits to our peoples," he wrote.

The Prime Minister reiterated India’s dedication to fostering peace, stability, and prosperity, emphasizing mutual sensitivity to each other’s interests and concerns.

The message comes at a time of political upheaval in Bangladesh following the ousting of Sheikh Hasina’s Awami League government after a nationwide movement.

The report was published by the office of Tulsi Gabbard, US Director of National Intelligence

Intelligence (DNI), said.

"China remains the primary source country for illicit fentanyl precursor

Russia and Ukraine agree naval ceasefire in Black Sea

Russia and Ukraine have agreed to a naval ceasefire in the Black Sea in separate deals with the US, after three days of peace talks in Saudi Arabia.

Washington said all parties would continue working toward a "durable and lasting peace" in statements announcing the agreements, which would reopen an important trade route.

They have also committed to "develop measures" to implement a previously agreed ban on attacking each other's energy infrastructure, the White House said. But Russia said the naval ceasefire would only come into force after a number of sanctions against its food and fertiliser trade were lifted.

US officials have been separately meeting negotiators from Moscow and Kyiv in Riyadh with the aim of brokering a truce between the two sides.

The Russian and Ukrainian delegations have not met directly.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said the deal to halt strikes in the Black Sea was a step in the right direction. "It is too early to say that it will work, but these were the right meetings, the right decisions, the right steps," he told a press conference in Kyiv.

"No-one can accuse Ukraine of not moving towards sustainable peace after this," he added, after US President Donald Trump had previously accused him of blocking a peace deal.

But shortly after Washington's announcement, the Kremlin said the Black Sea ceasefire would not take effect until sanctions were lifted from Russian banks, producers and exporters involved in the international food and fertiliser trades.

has placed India on the same level as China in connection with the supply of precursor chemicals used by drug cartels to manufacture opioids like fentanyl. Last year's report mentioned India as just one of several countries from where the Mexican groups were sourcing chemicals to a "lesser extent". It had identified China as the primary supplier. The report comes at a time when US President Donald Trump has made combating opioids a political priority, shaping his foreign policy decisions. Earlier this month, Trump said his administration would not rest until "we have ended the fentanyl epidemic in America once and for all."

On February 1, the American commander-in-chief imposed an additional 10 per cent tariff on China for failing to take sufficient action against fentanyl trafficking. He also levied 25 per cent duties on Canada and Mexico for allegedly lacking adequate border enforcement. Meanwhile, Trump has threatened to impose reciprocal duties on several countries as part of his "Liberation Day" tariffs set to take effect on April 2. However, India is in talks with America to expedite a free trade deal that could help it avoid some of these taxes.

China executed four Canadians for drug crimes, says Ottawa

Four Canadians were executed in China on drug-related charges earlier this year, Canadian authorities have confirmed.

All of them were dual citizens and their identities have been withheld, Canada's foreign minister Mélanie Joly said. A spokesperson for the Chinese embassy in Canada urged Ottawa to "stop making irresponsible remarks", as pundits feared a further downturn in relations between the countries after years of strain.

China's foreign ministry said on Thursday that it had acted "in accordance with the law", while the embassy said there was "solid and sufficient" evidence for their crimes. Beijing had "fully guaranteed the rights and interests of the Canadian nationals concerned", the embassy said, urging Canada to respect "China's judicial sovereignty".

China does not recognise dual citizenship and takes a tough stance on drug crimes. However, it's rare for the death penalty to be carried out on foreigners.

of embarrassment about being an American today.

Nancy Wilson, the famous American musician from the rock band Heart, expressed her discomfort with being an American in the current political climate, calling it "embarrassing". In a recent interview with the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Wilson opened up about the state of the world and her feelings as an American today.

The conversation touched on Heart's iconic 1975 single, "Crazy on You", which she explained was originally written as a critique of the Vietnam War. Interestingly, she noted that the song's message continues to feel relevant even in today's world.

New Delhi, March 25, 2025 – India has achieved a remarkable economic milestone, doubling its Gross Domestic Product (GDP) from $2.1 trillion in 2015 to $4.3 trillion in 2025, a staggering 105% rise, according to the latest International Monetary Fund (IMF) data. This growth rate positions India as the fastestgrowing major economy over the past decade, surpassing giants like China (76%), the USA (66%), and Germany (44%). Commerce Minister

Abhishek Kolli

Abhishek Kolli, from Gudivada in Andhra Pradesh's Krishna district, had been reported missing a day earlier, prompting a search operation involving law enforcement and community members.

Piyush Goyal hailed the achievement as "outstanding," crediting Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership for driving India to the fifth-largest economy globally, behind only the US, China, Germany, and Japan. The IMF projects India could overtake Japan in 2025 and Germany by 2027, with its GDP expected to hit $5.7 trillion by 2028, per Morgan Stanley. Factors fueling this surge include robust policy reforms, digital economy expansion, and a young workforce. However, experts note challenges like moderating credit growth and global economic uncertainties. Inflation-adjusted figures show a 77% rise, slightly tempering the nominal triumph, yet India’s trajectory remains unmatched. Goyal emphasized, “This is just the beginning—India is poised to become the third-largest economy soon,” reflecting optimism for sustained momentum.

Trump’s “Gold Card” Residency Program Sells 1,000 in a Day

a single day, adding $5 billion to the economy in 24 hours.

New Delhi: President Donald Trump’s “Gold Card” program offers permanent US residency for a $5 million investment, attracting global high-net-worth individuals.

US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick revealed that the program saw 1,000 cards sold in a single day, generating $5 billion ahead of its official rollout in two weeks. Elon Musk is developing software to support its operation, Lutnick shared on the All-In Podcast. The Gold Card grants indefinite US residency, with an option to apply for citizenship later. Holders must comply with US laws, as residency can be revoked for criminal activity. A key draw is its tax benefits—only USearned income is taxable, while foreign income remains untaxed, making it attractive to the wealthy from high-tax nations. Unlike US citizens, residents are exempt from global taxation. Lutnick estimated that 37 million people worldwide could afford the Gold Card, and Trump believes up to 1 million could be sold, generating substantial government revenue to reduce the US fiscal deficit and national debt. With no cap on sales, the program is expected to reshape US residency and citizenship pathways while serving as a major funding source for the US government.

Trump’s 25% Tariff on Venezuelan Oil: Impact on India

New Delhi: US President Donald Trump has announced a 25% tariff on countries purchasing oil and gas from Venezuela, a move that could significantly impact India as one of Venezuela’s top crude buyers.

Trump stated on Truth Social that Venezuela is “hostile to US freedoms”, justifying the tariff, which could take effect from April 2. The levy would last one year after a country’s last Venezuelan oil purchase or until Washington decides otherwise.

India’s Oil Dependence on Venezuela

India was the top buyer of Venezuelan crude in December 2023 and January 2024, importing nearly half of Venezuela’s total oil exports—over 254,000 barrels per day (bpd) in January alone. In 2024, India imported 22 million barrels, making up 1.5% of its total crude oil purchases.

Rising Oil Prices & Economic Impact

Following Trump’s announcement, Brent crude prices rose 1.2% to $73 per

Canada Warns of China, India Election Meddling

OTTAWA - China and India are likely to try to interfere in the Canadian general election on April 28, while Russia and Pakistan have the potential to do so, the country's spy service said on Monday. Beijing and New Delhi have denied previous allegations of interference.

Canada was slow in responding to efforts by China and India to interfere in the 2019 and 2021 elections but their outcomes were unaffected by the meddling, an official probe said in a final report released in January.

California: Indian-Origin Woman Charged With Killing 11-Year-Old Son

Saritha Ramaraju, 48, has been charged with one felony count of murder for slitting her son's throat, killing the boy after they went on a vacation to Disneyland.

New York: A 48-year-old Indian-origin woman, Saritha Ramaraju, has been charged with murdering her 11-yearold son after a three-day Disneyland vacation during a custody visit. Ramaraju, who divorced the boy’s father in 2018 and moved out of California, was staying with her son at a Santa Ana motel. On March 19, the day she was supposed to return him to his father, she called 911 at 9:12 am, confessing she had killed him and attempted suicide by ingesting pills.

Police found the boy dead on the motel bed amid Disneyland souvenirs. A large kitchen knife, purchased the previous day, was recovered from the scene. Authorities believe he had been dead for hours before she called 911.

Orange County District Attorney Todd Spitzer condemned the act, stating, “Anger makes you forget who you love… Instead of wrapping her arms around her son in love, she slit his throat.” Ramaraju, recently living in Virginia, had been in a custody battle with her ex-husband, Prakash Raju, since last year. She accused him of substance abuse and control issues, while he denied the allegations. Raju, originally from Bengaluru, had full custody of the boy, with Ramaraju having visitation rights. If convicted, Ramaraju faces 26 years to life in prison.

India Weighs Easing Barriers, Chinese FDI Amid US Tariffs

India is exploring strategies to counter potential economic fallout from impending U.S. tariffs by easing non-tariff barriers and reassessing foreign direct investment (FDI) policies, particularly regarding China. The U.S. has signaled plans to impose reciprocal tariffs on Indian exports, with an April 2 deadline set by President Donald Trump, referred to as “Liberation Day.” This move could impact India's $75 billion export sector, affecting stock

markets and currency value. In response, India and the U.S. are working toward a trade deal to prevent these tariffs, though challenges persist, especially in India’s highly protected agricultural sector. A parliamentary committee has suggested reducing tariffs on imported raw materials to boost domestic manufacturing. The report highlights the need to correct “inverted duty structures,” where raw materials are taxed higher than finished products, making imports cheaper than local production. The proposed changes aim to level the playing field for Indian manufacturers. Discussions have arisen about relaxing FDI norms for neighboring countries, including China. However, officials clarified that there is no policy shift, and investments will still be reviewed on a case-by-case basis for national security reasons

US Couple Charged for Shooting Teen’s Father in Dating Dispute

Both Luther and Angelica Madison were arrested and booked into the Harris County Jail.

A Texas couple has been arrested for allegedly shooting the father of their teenage son's girlfriend following a dispute over the daughter's age, the People reported. Luther Madison II, 39, is accused of shooting his son's

girlfriend's father with a gun allegedly handed to him by his wife, Angelica Madison, 39, during a dispute in Hockley on March 18.

According to Harris County Constable Mark Herman, the altercation began when the parents met to discuss keeping their children apart, as the victim's family believed their daughter was "too young to be dating." The meeting took place at the Madisons' home in Hockley, located just under an hour from Houston. At some point, the discussion escalated into a verbal and physical confrontation in the street, Daily Mail reported. Vandalise Hotel Over Kunal Kamra Show

"Where's Free Speech?"

Jaya Bachchan on Kunal Kamra Controversy

New Delhi: Actress-turned-politician Jaya Bachchan has spoken out in support of comedian Kunal Kamra amid the ongoing controversy over his remarks. She also condemned the vandalism at the Mumbai venue where his show was filmed.

Speaking at the Parliament premises, Bachchan criticized increasing restrictions on freedom of expression. "If there is a restriction on speaking, what will become of you? There are already limitations on what you can say. Where is freedom of speech?" she questioned. She further expressed concern over the broader state of affairs, stating that action seems to be taken only when there is chaos. "There is freedom only when there is violence—attacking the opposition, crimes against women, even murder. But when someone speaks, there are restrictions," she remarked.

Taking a dig at Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, she added, "You left your real party and formed another one just for power. Isn’t that an insult to Balasaheb?" Her comments come amid growing debates on censorship and political influence over artistic expression.

"My advice to today's kids is to make stories that are rooted in our society. Don't ape or come under the influence of technology. Don't ape to be Western or urban. They comprise only 20 per cent of the population,” he added.

Subhash Ghai to Filmmakers: "Tell Rooted Stories"

Veteran director Subhash Ghai on Friday urged young filmmakers to avoid the temptation of imitating Western cinema and instead craft stories rooted in their own culture, an approach that could revitalise the Hindi film industry.

“Connect to your own culture and make films of what you've grown up watching, the people, the world around you, then you will be able to emote it in the right way," Ghai said at a masterclass celebrating the 45 years of his iconic film Karz.

According to the cinema veteran, Tamil and Telugu films are working with the audience these days because they are connected to their roots.

"My advice to today's kids is to make stories that are rooted in our society. Don't ape or come under the influence of technology. Don't ape to be Western or urban. They comprise only 20 per cent of the population,” he added. Also starring Rishi Kapoor, Simi Garewal, Tina Munim, Pran, Raj Kiran, Karz was released in 1980 and is still remembered for its taut storyline and chartbuster songs like Dard-E-Dil and Om Shanti Om.

The romantic thriller revolves around Monty (Kapoor), who uncovers the truth about his past life, and how he was murdered by his ambitious wife (Garewal).

Ghai said Kapoor, who passed away in 2020, was initially skeptical about his approach to the reincarnation theme in Karz. “I could not imagine any other hero than Rishi Kapoor for the film.

Sikandar Trailer: Politics, Power And Punchlines - Peak Salman Khan Energy

New Delhi: Love him, hate him, but you simply can't ignore him—especially when he makes a grand comeback. Salman Khan is back in action with Sikandar, and if the trailer is anything to go by, he's bringing the full-blown “Bhai” energy with him.

Directed by AR Murugadoss and featuring Rashmika Mandanna, the trailer promises an explosive mix of action, drama and power-packed dialogues—the kind that makes fans whistle in theatres.

Sikandar marks Salman's return as a lead after 16 months, following Tiger

Clocking in at three minutes and 37 seconds, the trailer introduces viewers to Sanjay Rajkot (Salman Khan) — a man wanted in 49 cases over the last five years. But before you assume he's just another big-screen baddie, the narrative quickly shifts, revealing a man whose actions stem from a greater cause.

When I told Rishi Kapoor, he asked me if I was sure to make a reincarnation story to have two actors for the same role. I told him I wanted to experiment and do something new. He liked the idea,” said the director, who is also known for blockbuster hits like Kalicharan, Ram Lakhan, and Khalnayak.

Ghai revealed that Kapoor asked him if he had a sense for music since he is making Karz as a musical story.

“When he saw the song Dard-E-Dil, he was very happy. He called me to apologise. Later, he had this confidence in the film. He was a child-like person and he remained one till the very end. He was the only actor who never cared for money, he cared about his performance. He was the star in the Kapoor family but he was a very good human being too,” the 80-year-old director said.

Kapoor's actor wife Neetu Kapoor, Garewal, Munim, and the other key cast and crew members were present at the special event.

Neetu, who married Kapoor in 1980, revealed that she was dating the actor while he was filming for Karz.

“I started dating him when his film was being made, and by the time the film got released, we were married. I remember we got married in January and this film was released in June,” she said. Garewal expressed gratitude to Ghai for offering her the film, and fondly remembered Kapoor, who worked with him on films like Mera Naam Joker and Kabhi Kabhie.

Trump

Orders Elimination of US Education Department

Surrounded by schoolchildren sitting at desks set up in the East Room of the White House, Trump smiled as held up the order after signing it at a special ceremony.

Washington: US President Donald Trump signed an order Thursday aimed at "eliminating" the Department of Education, a decadesold goal of the American right, which wants individual states to run schools free from the federal government.

Surrounded by schoolchildren sitting at desks set up in the East Room of the White House, Trump smiled as held up the order after signing it at a special ceremony.

Trump said the order would "begin eliminating the federal Department of Education once and for all."

"We're going to shut it down and shut it down as quickly as possible. It's doing us no good," Trump said. "We're going to return education back to the states where it belongs." The Education Department, created in 1979, cannot be shuttered without the approval of Congress -- but Trump's order will likely have the power to starve it of funds and staff.

Source also said the Supreme Court Chief Justice Sanjiv Khanna had sought

a report from the Delhi High Court Chief Justice, DK Upadhyaya, and also briefed fellow judges in the top court. Based on the outcome of the investigation, Justice Varma may either be asked to resign or be removed from office by Parliament, under Article 124(4) of the Constitution.

Badar Khan Suri, an Indian national, is a postdoctoral fellow studying and teaching at the prestigious Washington DC institution on a student visa.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) accused him of "spreading Hamas propaganda" and having "close connections to a known or suspected terrorist".

Mr Suri's lawyer and employer have denied the allegation. His lawyer said in a court filing that his client was targeted because of his wife's "identity as a Palestinian and her constitutionally protected speech".

In an order on Thursday, Judge Patricia Tolliver Giles said Mr Suri "shall not be removed from the United States unless and until the Court issues a contrary order".

In a sworn statement, his wife Mapheze Saleh said the detention "has completely upended our lives" and appealed to the court to allow Mr Suri to return home to his family.

Sudiksha vanished on March 6 from Punta Cana beach in the Dominican Republic. While her body has not been found, investigators believe she drowned, and no criminal evidence has emerged. The Loudoun County Sheriff's Office in Virginia, where her family lives, supports their request for Dominican authorities to acknowledge her accidental drowning. Sheriff Mike Chapman stated that though drowning is the likely cause, the case remains open. Dominican authorities continue their investigation,

and declaring a missing person dead without a body is a complex legal process. Attorney Julio Cury explained that such a declaration requires special approval from Congress or the president. The Konanki family, in a letter obtained by CNN, urged authorities to proceed with the legal process, stating it would help them grieve and settle related matters. Without a death certificate, financial affairs like insurance policies and college savings remain unresolved.

Loudoun County authorities have offered assistance in navigating the legal procedures if needed. Attorney Phillip DiLucente noted the family's request stems from a need for closure and respect for their daughter’s memory.

The controversy surrounding Justice Varma - appointed to the Delhi High Court in 2021 - broke during Holi last week, when a blaze at his Delhi bungalow had to be put out by firefighters. In doing so, they found the cash and alerted the police. And, as the news ran through official channels, the Supreme Court was alerted, and the five-member Collegium was convened. Sources said the Chief Justice took a very serious view of the discovery of the cash and the Collegium concurred, agreeing unanimously on Justice Varma's transfer.

Musk Warns Pentagon Leakers After China War Report

Access to a closely guarded military plan would mark a sharp expansion of Musk's role as a Trump adviser who has spearheaded efforts to cut U.S. government spending

Elon Musk said Pentagon staff who spoke to reporters at the New York Times should be prosecuted, after the newspaper reported the billionaire was due to be briefed about the U.S. military's plan for any war that might break out with China. "The New York Times is pure propaganda," Musk said in a post on his social media platform X on Friday. "Also, I look forward to the prosecutions of those at the Pentagon who are leaking maliciously false information to NYT. They will be found."

Musk's comments came after President Donald Trump also denied the story about his close ally. "China will not even be mentioned or discussed," Trump said in a post on Truth Social on Thursday about the meeting. The New York Times did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

A U.S. official, speaking on condition of anonymity, told Reuters the briefing for Musk would be attended by senior U.S. military officials in the Pentagon and would be an overview on a number of different topics, including China.

Advocates, including Justice Action Center director Karen Tumlin, called the decision “reckless and cruel,” warning of chaos for families. However, Cuba, Venezuela, and Nicaragua resisted deportations, complicating enforcement. Haiti, facing ongoing turmoil, has accepted some deportation flights. The CHNV program was part of Biden’s strategy to create legal migration routes while tightening border control.

Weng allegedly defrauded a victim by claiming he could obtain a green card for her through the EB-5 Immigrant Investor Visa Program in exchange for a $500,000 invest-ment. Weng was arrested this morning and is scheduled for arraignment this afternoon before U.S. Magistrate Judge Lara K. Eshkenazi. U.S. Attorney John J. Durham and FBI Acting Assistant Director Leslie Backschies announced the charges.

According to court filings, since April 2016, Weng falsely portrayed himself as

a federal agent, even pre-senting a badge and business card from a fake agency. He drove a red Hummer with a vanity plate refer-encing ICE and claimed connections to Homeland Security and INTERPOL. Instead of processing the visa, Weng kept the money and fed the victim false updates for nearly eight years. If convicted, Weng faces up to 43 years in prison. The charges are allegations, and he is presumed innocent until proven guilty. Anyone with relevant information is encouraged to contact the FBI at NY_WengTips@fbi.gov.

NYC Schools to Ban Cellphones by Fall 202

NEW YORK, NY- Mayor Eric Adams aims to implement a cell phone ban in New York City schools by the fall of 2025. Speaking at P.S. 35 in the Bronx, Adams emphasized that cell phones distract students, disrupt teaching, and contribute to bullying.

While some schools already enforce restrictions, Adams wants a citywide policy and seeks input from parents and educators. City officials are considering options such as collecting phones at the start of the day, using magnetically locked cases, or providing storage cubbies. Previously, Adams stated the city would not impose a ban for the current school year but hinted at future action.

Gov. Kathy Hochul is also exploring a policy limiting students to basic phones without internet ac-cess.

As discussions continue, Adams remains committed to reducing distractions and fostering a better learning environment in schools.

Darshana Patel’s Bill Advances to Protect Public Institutions

SACRAMENTO, CA – A bill aimed at closing legal loopholes on threats against schools, workplaces, and critical institutions has advanced in the California State Assembly. AB 237, introduced by Assemblymember Darshana Patel (D-San Diego County), cleared the Assembly Public Safety Committee and now moves to the Appropriations Committee.

Co-sponsored by the San Diego District Attorney’s Office, the California District

Attorney Association, and the California Police Chiefs Association, the bill makes it illegal to threaten crimes against institutions, even without targeting a specific individual. Current laws only criminalize threats if they are credible, specific, and aimed at a person, leaving institutions such as schools, hospitals, and houses of worship vulnerable. Patel stressed the bill’s role in protecting communities. “It moves us closer to protecting people inside these institutions, those who visit, and everyone who relies on their services,” she said. The bill follows threats against Shoal Creek Elementary in San Diego, where 39-year-old Lee Lor allegedly sent over 350 violent emails. AB 237 criminalizes threats made publicly, even without intent to act, with penalties of up to one year in jail or a prison sentence of up to three years. Lawmakers say it strengthens prosecutors’ ability to ensure public safety.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — In a high-stakes courtroom battle, Deputy Associate Attorney General Abhishek Kambli defended the Trump administration’s deportation policy under an 18th-century law, resisting a fed-eral judge’s demand for details on weekend deportation flights.

During the March 18 hearing, U.S. District Judge James Boasberg pressed Kambli on the administration’s response to his March 15 order halting deportations. Boasberg explicitly instructed that any deportation flights return to the U.S., but the Justice Department argued that only the judge’s written ruling— not his oral directive—was legally binding. Calling the argument “a stretch,” Boasberg challenged the administra-tion’s stance. Kambli refused to disclose the number of flights or whether deportees could return, citing national security concerns. “I am only authorized to say what we have said in the court filings,” he stated. His resistance marked a rare moment of open defiance toward a federal judge, which The Hill described as “remarkable.”

Boasberg warned that without transparency, the government must justify its actions with classified evi-dence. The case centers on the Trump administration’s use of the Alien Enemies Act, a 1798 law last invoked in World War II, to deport individuals allegedly linked to Venezuela’s Tren de Aragua gang—without presenting public evidence.

KENNESAW, GA –Mahendra Patel, 56, has been arrested for allegedly attempting to abduct a child at a Walmart in Acworth on March 18. IRS Plans to Hand Over Data on Undocumented Immigrants to ICE

WASHINGTON, DC- The U.S. Internal Revenue Service (IRS) is reportedly nearing a deal to allow immi-gration officials access to tax data to support Donald Trump’s deportation agenda, according to The Washington Post. The proposed agreement would enable Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to share names and addresses of undocumented immigrants with the IRS, potentially breaching longstanding tax privacy norms. If finalized, this would mark a major shift, using the tax system for immigration enforcement

4,000+ Cars With Ghost License Plates Impounded Massive NYC Crackdown

NEW YORK, NY- Since a joint citystate task force launched its crackdown on ghost license plates in 2023, over 4,000 vehicles have been impounded in New York City. Since March 11 alone, 70+ toll enforcement operations led to 902 arrests and more than 39,000 summonses, according to the MTA. Gov. Kathy Hochul emphasized that those who alter license plates to evade tolls or cameras will be caught. In 2024, violators owed over $45 million in unpaid tolls and fines. In 2025 so far, 13 operations have resulted in 168 arrests, 650 towed cars, and $4.6 million in outstanding tolls and fees. New rules taking effect April 16 will prohibit any obstruction—like dirt or plastic covers—on license plates, with a $50 fine for violations. “We won’t tolerate lawbreakers who endanger the public and defraud the city,” said Mayor Eric Adams, adding that ghost cars and illegal vehicles are no longer being ignored.

ITServe Services Tackles Member Challenges

on an unprecedented scale. The IRS currently allows undocumented immigrants to file taxes using Individual Taxpayer Identification Numbers (ITINs), as most lack Social Security numbers. Over half of the estimated 11 million undocument-ed immigrants in the U.S. reportedly file taxes. The IRS website emphasizes confidentiality, although Sec-tion 6103 allows information to be shared under court order for non-tax criminal investigations. However, sources say this level of cooperation with immigration enforcement would be unusual and controversial.

The potential deal aligns with Trump’s aggressive immigration policies. During his campaign, he pledged to deport millions of undocumented individuals. His administration has already ended several legal pathways for immigrants and initiated ICE raids in cities with large immigrant populations.

NEW YORK, NY – ITServe Services (ITSS), a subsidiary of ITServe Alliance, delivers customized solutions to address the unique challenges of ITServe members.

“Some services required a dedicated platform, leading to ITSS,” explains ITServe President Anju Vallabhaneni. Managed by an independent board, including Managing Director Manohar Kasagani, ITSS provides key services like Group Health Insurance, Business Insurance, ITServe Angels (entrepreneurial support), and M&A Advisory. Members also receive discounts on ADP, Google Workspace, Microsoft Office, and Dice. A major initiative, the Captive Health Insurance Plan with Trucardia, offers cost control and tailored coverage. Future plans include exclusive LinkedIn and travel discounts, with ongoing discussions for partnerships with QuickBooks and Monster.

“With 2,500+ members, collective bargaining maximizes value,” says Board Member Gautam Reddy Mallireddy.

New Rules: State Department Modifies Visa Waiver Process

WASHINGTON, DC- The U.S. Department of State (DOS) has updated its policy on Nonimmigrant Visa (NIV) waivers, eliminating the rule that required consular officers to defer to past decisions when reviewing waiver requests. This means each waiver request will now be assessed independently.

A Nonimmigrant Visa waiver is for individuals deemed inadmissible to the U.S. due to medical issues, past criminal offenses, or immigration violations. Without a waiver, they cannot enter the U.S.

Previously, consular officers typically approved NIV waivers if a previous officer had granted one, unless new negative information arose. This provided consistency for applicants who had received prior waivers. The updated policy removes this "deference" rule, requiring officers to evaluate each request from scratch. Past approvals no longer influence decisions, giving officers more discretion. As a result, applicants can no longer assume that a previously granted waiver will lead to future

Giannoulias and Congressman García Collaborate on REAL ID Awareness Video

CHICAGO, IL- To ensure that every Illinoisan has accurate information about REAL ID, Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias has enlisted the help of Congressman Jesús "Chuy" García and released a video specifically aimed at Spanish-speaking residents.

In the video, García explains who needs a REAL ID and why, directing Illinoisans to the "Get A REAL ID" portal on the Secretary of State's website: realid.ilsos.gov.

"It's essential that everyone understands whether they need a REAL ID," said Giannoulias. "I appreciate Congressman García's efforts to share this information, dispel misinformation, and ensure Illinoisans have the facts."

"Our community deserves clear and accurate information about REAL ID, along with accessible options for obtaining one," said García. "Secretary Giannoulias has expanded office hours and appointment availability to meet the high demand, ensuring Illinoisans can get a REAL ID before the May 7 deadline and beyond."

The REAL ID portal is available in multiple languages, including Spanish, to ensure every Illinoisan can access the information they need.

A Nonimmigrant Visa waiver is for individuals deemed inadmissible to the U.S. due to medical issues, past criminal offenses, or immigration violations. Without a waiver, they cannot enter the U.S. approvals. This change introduces uncertainty into the waiver process, making it essential for applicants to present strong, well-documented

cases. Each application must clearly demonstrate eligibility, as decisions will be made on a case-by-case basis. Importantly, this policy shift applies only to Nonimmigrant Visa waivers. Immigrant visa waivers remain unaffected and follow a separate process. Given the stricter review process, applicants should ensure their waiver applications are comprehensive and up to date. Seeking guidance from an immigration attorney may improve the chances of approval by addressing potential concerns proactively.

Indian-Origin Student from Columbia University Dodges ICE, Flees to Canada

NEW YORK, NY - Ranjani

Srinivasan, a 37-year-old doctoral student in Urban Planning at Columbia University, voluntarily left the United States after her student visa was revoked on March 5 by the U.S. Department of State. Authorities cited alleged support for Hamas, a designated terrorist organization, though no specific evidence was disclosed to her.

An Indian national and Fulbright scholar, Srinivasan was caught off guard by the revocation. On March 7, ICE agents visited her apartment but did not find her. The next evening, as pressure mounted, she left her cat with a friend and boarded a flight to Canada. Meanwhile, federal agents arrested another Columbia student, Mahmoud Khalil. When ICE agents returned with a judicial warrant, Srinivasan was already gone. She later told The New York Times, "The atmosphere seemed so volatile and dangerous. So, I just made a quick decision."

• If available, a copy of your termination notice

If you are identified as an individual whose termination falls within the Court's order, your employment will be reinstated effective March 17, 2025. Upon reinstatement, you will be placed on administrative leave (a paid, non-duty status). Administrative leave is a management-authorized leave category and does not impact your annual or sick leave balance. Following reinstatement, your pay and benefits will resume, and all federal employment requirements— including ethical obligations—will apply. If you do not wish to be reinstated, please submit a written statement declining reinstatement as soon as possible. This process does not affect your ability to voluntarily resign. For further assistance, please contact uscis-ochco@uscis.dhs.gov.

Her troubles began during proPalestinian protests at Columbia last year. Although not a direct participant, she was arrested during a clash between protesters and police, receiving two summonses for obstructing traffic and failing to disperse—both later dismissed. She did not disclose these when renewing her visa, assuming they were irrelevant. "Maybe that was my mistake," she admitted.

The Department of Homeland Security confirmed her selfdeportation via the CBP Home App. Secretary Kristi Noem emphasized that holding a U.S. visa is a privilege, and those advocating violence should not remain.

Srinivasan, now in Canada, believes her limited social media posts criticizing Israeli policies led to her visa revocation. Her legal team argues she was targeted for political speech rather than any criminal wrongdoing. On March 14, Columbia withdrew her enrollment, leaving her future uncertain. "Even low-level political speech can turn into a dystopian nightmare," she warned.
