Zelensky, Trump Call

‘Positive,’ Eye Peace This Year

US President Donald Trump has held what he described as a "very good" hour-long phone call with his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky, a day after speaking to Russia's President Vladimir Putin. Zelensky said afterwards that he believed that "lasting peace can be achieved this year" under Trump's leadership.

They also discussed possible US ownership of the Russian-held Zaporizhzhia power plant, Zelensky said. The apparently cordial mood of the conversation is in marked contrast to Zelensky's visit to the White House last month, in which the two leadersalong with US Vice-President JD Vance

Trump Accuses US Judges of Seizing Presidential Power

Washington: The White House on Wednesday accused judges of "usurping" executive power after a series of rulings against Donald Trump's administration, including one that blocked the deportation of Venezuelan migrants and drew the president's ire.

Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt alleged there had been a "concerted effort by the far left" to pick judges who were "clearly acting as partisan activists" to deal with cases involving the Republican's administration.

- were involved in a tense exchange.

Wednesday marked the first time the two men have spoken since the meeting in the Oval Office - although since then, their teams have met in Saudi Arabia and negotiated a proposed 30-day ceasefire. While it is backed by Ukraine

and the US, Putin rejected the proposal for a widespread pause in the conflict during his phone call with the US president on Tuesday.

During his conversation with Donald Trump, Zelensky said he was open to a partial ceasefire involving a halt on strikes on energy infrastructure, rail and port facilities that could be established quickly - but the Ukrainian president warned his country would retaliate if Moscow violated the terms of the ceasefire.

"I understand that until we agree (with Russia), until there is a corresponding document on even a partial ceasefire, I think that everything will fly," he said, referring to drones and missiles.

Musk Claims Threats to His Life, Condemns Tesla Attacks

Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla and a close ally of US President Donald Trump, has spoken out about the alleged conspiracy to harm him and his company. In a recent interview with Fox News host Sean Hannity, Musk expressed his concerns about the growing violence and hatred towards hiMusk attributed the backlash to his efforts to reduce government waste and corruption as the head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). He claimed that when people's

fraudulent activities are disrupted, they become upset. Musk stated, "It turns out when you take away people's, you know, the money that they're receiving fraudulently, they get very upset." He added, "And they basically want to kill me because I'm stopping their fraud and they want to hurt Tesla because we're stopping the terrible waste and corruption in the government. And, well, I guess they're bad people. Bad people do bad things." He further alleged that these individuals want to harm him and Tesla because they are stopping the corruption and waste in the government. Musk emphasised that Tesla is a peaceful company that has never done anything harmful. He described the attacks on Tesla as "terrorism" and condemned the violence, saying, "This level of violence is insane and deeply wrong... Tesla just makes electric cars and has done nothing to deserve these evil attacks".

US Halts $175M Funding to Pennsylvania University Over Trans Athlete Policy

The Trump administration has suspended $175 million in federal funding to the University of Pennsylvania over its policies on transgender athletes, escalating a political clash between the White House and the Ivy League institution. The move follows Trump’s executive order banning transgender athletes from competing in female-only sports. Under pressure, the NCAA revised its rules, restricting women’s competitions to those assigned female at birth. Penn previously made headlines in 2022 when Lia Thomas, a transgender swimmer, won an NCAA Division I title, sparking controversy. A university spokesperson stated that Penn has always complied with NCAA and Ivy League policies regarding

athlete participation. However, internal criticism emerged, with over a dozen Penn swimmers anonymously arguing that Thomas had an “unfair advantage” in women’s sports.

The White House justified the funding cut, accusing Penn of “forcing women to compete with men” in sports. While the university has a $22 billion endowment, losing federal funds could impact research, financial aid, and other programs. Penn estimates losses could rise to $315 million annually if similar funding suspensions continue, raising legal and financial concerns. The battle highlights a broader national debate over transgender inclusion in sports and the federal government’s role in enforcing restrictions.

Trump Admin Reinstates 25,000 Fired Federal Workers

US President Donald Trump's administration is working to bring back nearly 25,000 fired federal workers after judges ruled their terminations were illegal, court documents show.

Officials at 18 departments and agencies have submitted documents to a federal court detailing their efforts to rehire the laid off probationary workers to comply with the court orders.

Last week, two federal judges said the mass layoffs of the recently hired workers was illegal and ordered them to be reinstated pending further litigation.

Trump Calls Tesla Vandals 'Terrorists'

Attorney General Pam Bondi called the attacks “nothing short of domestic terrorism,” vowing severe consequences for those involved.

The Trump administration is redefining domestic terrorism, cracking down on Tesla vandals amid a wave of shootings and arson attacks protesting Elon Musk’s influence over the US government.

Critics highlight the irony, as Trump recently pardoned 1,000+ January 6 rioters but now seeks to label Tesla vandals as terrorists. Attorney General Pam Bondi called the attacks “nothing short of domestic terrorism,” with FBI investigations underway, especially after a Las Vegas Tesla facility was targeted.

Federal prosecutors have charged individuals, including a Colorado woman using Molotov cocktails and a South Carolina man setting fire to a Tesla charging station. While Trump and Musk suggest a coordinated anticorporate plot, no concrete evidence has emerged.

Experts argue vandalism rarely qualifies as terrorism, as it targets property, not lives. However, Trump’s administration is pushing tougher crackdowns, marking a shift in how domestic terrorism is defined.

After Quad, India May Be Part Of New Military Grouping In South China Sea

New Delhi: Even as the Quad steadily strengthens its hold across the IndoPacific region, India may soon consider being a part of another key multilateral alliance that focuses on the South China Sea. The group in question is the 'Squad' - whose members currently include Japan, Australia, the US, and the Philippines. The group now plans to invite India and South Korea to join it. Philippines and Japan, which face challenges with China's growing military presence in the South China Sea, aim to counter Beijing and keep it in check, said General Romeo S. Brawner, the Philippines' Armed Forces chief.

Though Squad is still an informal grouping, member states have conducted joint maritime activities in South China Sea for over a year. "Together with Japan and our partners we are trying to expand the squad to include India and probably South Korea," General Brawner said at the Raisina Dialogue - a multilateral conference in New Delhi. Interestingly, the General's comment on

Finland tops global happiness poll for eighth year running

A new study suggests that strangers are nearly twice as kind as people assume. The 2024 World Happiness Report, released on Thursday, measured trust in strangers by testing how often lost wallets were returned compared to expectations. The results showed that wallets were returned almost twice as often as predicted, highlighting that people underestimate the kindness of others. The study, conducted globally, found that belief in the goodwill of strangers is more strongly linked to happiness than previously thought. Economist John F. Helliwell, a founding editor of the report, emphasized that people are generally happier in societies where they believe others care. He noted that the results reveal widespread pessimism, as people consistently underestimated the likelihood of lost wallets being returned.

The report, released annually to mark the UN’s International Day of Happiness, ranks countries based on how citizens evaluate their lives. Finland retained its title as the world’s happiest country for the eighth consecutive year, with an average score of 7.736 out of 10. Meanwhile, the US and UK slipped in rankings, while Costa Rica and Mexico entered the top 10 for the first time.

The group in question is the 'Squad' - whose members currently include Japan, Australia, the US, and the Philippines. The group now plans to invite India and South Korea to join it.

inviting India to the 'Squad', came as his counterpart from Japan, the chief of the Indian Navy, the commander of the US

Indo-Pacific Command, and Australia's chief of Joint Operations were on stage for a panel discussion on security in the Indo-Pacific.

General Brawner went on to say that the Philippines was making efforts to enhance its deterrence capabilities, including by working with partners in the Squad, which he said was an informal collaboration between the four nations on military aspects, intelligence sharing, and joint exercises and operations.

Chinese Media Applauds Trump’s Cuts to Voice of Americ

Chinese state media has welcomed Donald Trump's move to cut public funding for news outlets Voice of America and Radio Free Asia, which have long reported on authoritarian

regimes.

The decision affects thousands of employeessome 1,300 staff have been put on paid leave at Voice Of America (VOA) alone since Friday's executive order.

Critics have called the move a setback for democracy but Beijing's state newspaper Global Times denounced VOA for its "appalling track record" in reporting on China and said it has "now been discarded by its own government like a dirty rag". The White House defended the move, saying it will "ensure that taxpayers are no longer on the hook for radical propaganda".

Israel extends ground operations in Gaza after deadly air strikes

Israel says it has extended its ground operations in Gaza, after launching a wave of air strikes that the Hamas-run health ministry says killed more than 430 people in two days.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said troops had moved in up to the Netzarim Corridor, which divides the north and south of the Strip.

Israeli

Envoy: Hamas Has Two Options in Gaza War

Israel will continue its military campaign in Gaza until the region is free of Hamas, Israeli Ambassador Reuven Azar stated. The 42-day ceasefire has ended, and Hamas has failed to release the remaining hostages, violating the agreement and leaving Israel with no choice but to apply military pressure.

Azar outlined two conditions for peace: the release of all hostages and ensuring Hamas cannot rearm itself. He accused Hamas of repeatedly rejecting mediation efforts and using humanitarian aid for extortion. He emphasized that military action had already led to the release of 195 out of 254 hostages and remains effective. The United States fully supports Israel’s efforts to eliminate terrorist elements in Gaza and establish lasting peace. Azar dismissed international condemnation, arguing that the real issue is Hamas holding not just Israeli hostages but also Palestinians hostage to its rule.

Protests erupt in Turkey after Erdogan rival arrested

Protests have erupted in Turkey after authorities detained the mayor of Istanbul, just days before he was due to be selected as a presidential candidate. Ekrem Imamoglu, from the secular Republican People's Party (CHP), is seen as one of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's strongest political rivals. Prosecutors accused him of corruption and aiding a terrorist group, calling him a "criminal organisation leader suspect".

The renewed assault on Gaza marks the end of the fragile ceasefire deal that had been in place since January.

Earlier, the UN said two peopleincluding one of its staff - had been killed after an explosion at its compound in Deir al-Balah.

A foreign ministry spokesman said it would launch an investigation, but denied Israel was to blame.

The IDF said it had begun "targeted ground activities" to create what it called a "partial buffer between the north and south" in Gaza.

The BBC has seen evacuation orders issued to areas the military is moving into including Beit Hanoun in northern Gaza.

Police detained 100 people - including other politicians, journalists and businessmen - as part of the investigation, and the Istanbul governor's office has imposed four days of restrictions in the city. Imamoglu said online "the will of the people cannot be silenced".

Protesters have taken to the streets and university campuses, and in underground stations, with crowds chanting anti-government slogans. It is a display of public anger not seen in years. There were reports of clashes between protesters and police in Turkey's largest city. Footage from Reuters news agency shows police using pepper spray to disperse crowds outside Istanbul University.

Trump Admin to Fire Hundreds of Scientists, Researchers

The Trump administration has detained an Indian scholar at Georgetown University, Badar Khan Suri, and is seeking his deportation, citing concerns over US foreign policy. Suri, a postdoctoral fellow at the Alwaleed Bin Talal Center for Muslim-Christian Understanding at Georgetown’s School of Foreign Service, has been accused by the US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) of spreading pro-Hamas propaganda and antisemitism on social media.

According to a statement issued by DHS to Fox News, the agency claims Suri has connections to Hamas, the Palestinian militant group designated by the US as a terrorist organization.

Lisa Ray Slams Air India Over Medical Waiver Issue

Actor Lisa Ray shared her ordeal on social media and asked why Air India was not empathetic towards its passengers.

New Delhi: Indian-Canadian actor Lisa Ray has slammed Air India for denying a medical waiver for her ailing father despite providing a doctor's letter. Sharing her ordeal on social media, she said she had to cancel her travel since her 92-year-old father was unwell, but her cancellation fee was not waived. The Tata-owned carrier said it is looking into the matter.

The 52-year-old actor, who had booked her ticket through a thirdparty travel agent, shared a response from them saying no waiver was available. Sources say she had a nonrefundable ticket due to which the agent had refused her the waiver, and not the airline. "Here we go again @ airindia. My father is 92, unwell and I have to cancel travel due to his ailing condition. Submitted doctors' letter and the waiver was denied? How is that possible? Where is the empathy from an airline that is claiming to care about passengers?" asked Ms Ray.

The Information and Technology Ministry is in touch with social media platform X over the recent incident of AI chatbot Grok using Hindi slang and abuses and will be examining the issue, according to sources. The ministry will look into the matter

Grok, the powerful AI chatbot on Elon Musk’s X, shocked netizens recently with its wild side when its response in Hindi came loaded with abuses and slang after provocation by users. The banter started when an X user requested that Grok provide a list of the "10 best mutuals". After a silence, the user responded with some harsh comments. This prompted Grok to retaliate with an equally casual tone and slur-loaded response.

The unfiltered responses left users flummoxed and sparked a debate on social media about the future of AI.

The firings would result from the EPA, which tackles environmental issues including pollution, clean water and climate change, eliminating its scientific research arm that employs over 1,500 people.

Washington: The Trump administration plans to lay off hundreds of scientists and researchers from the US federal government as part of drastic cuts to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), lawmakers warned Tuesday. The firings would result from the EPA, which tackles environmental issues including pollution, clean water and climate change, eliminating its scientific research arm that employs over 1,500 people.

Documents reviewed by Democratic staff of the US House Committee on Science, Space and Technology said the cuts would mean a majority of employees "will not be retained," while the remaining positions would be moved to other departments within the agency. The layoffs, which have not been finalized, would further President Donald Trump's goal of slashing government spending by reducing the federal workforce as well as rolling back environmental and public health regulation.

"Why Indian Immigrants Worry About Post-Visa Screening in the US"

The Trump administration has intensified its already strict immigration policies, confirming that visa screening continues even after issuance. The US State Department emphasized that visa holders remain under continuous monitoring to ensure compliance with all immigration laws, with violations potentially leading to visa revocation or deportation.

A particular concern for the Indian diaspora is the uncertainty surrounding Green Cards. While permanent residency allows individuals to live and work in the US, Republican Senator JD Vance recently stated that holding a Green Card does not guarantee indefinite stay. In an interview with Fox News, he highlighted that even if a Green Card holder is considered favorably, they still do not have an unquestioned right to remain in the country. This stance has caused anxiety

among Indian immigrants, especially elderly Green Card holders who regularly travel between India and the US. Many Indian seniors prefer to spend part of the year in their homeland, returning to the US for the rest of the year. However, recent reports suggest that US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers are increasingly targeting such individuals upon their return. Officers allegedly pressure them to sign Form I-407, which voluntarily surrenders their Green Card status. Those who resist face threats of deportation or detention, as officials

argue that extended stays abroad indicate they no longer intend to reside in the US permanently.

This aggressive enforcement has left many elderly Indian immigrants feeling trapped. Many now fear visiting India, worried they might be forced to forfeit their US residency. Immigration lawyers have criticized the CBP’s actions as an overreach, yet the fear remains, particularly among those who may not fully understand the implications of signing Form I-407. India has long been one of the largest contributors to legal immigration in the US, with thousands of skilled professionals and families aspiring to settle there. However, the growing uncertainty surrounding Green Cards is making many in the Indian diaspora rethink their future in the US. With conservatives pushing for stricter immigration controls, the situation remains tense, leaving many Indian immigrants anxious about their status and long-term plans.

Realty firm Tribeca Developers has partnered with Kundan Spaces to develop a Rs 2,500 crore worth commercial project 'Trump World Center' in Pune, marking the entry of US-based Trump Organisation in Indian commercial real estate.

Tribeca Developers and Kundan Spaces on Wednesday announced the launch of Trump World Center Pune. "This new development marks The Trump Organisation’s first foray into commercial real estate in India and will join the extensive portfolio of Trump residential properties in the region," said Tribeca Developers, who brought the Trump brand to India. The 4.3-acre project is expected to generate sales exceeding Rs 2,500 crore.

A North Dakota jury has found Greenpeace liable for defamation, ordering it to pay more than $660m (£507m) in damages to an oil company for the environmental group's role in one of the largest anti-fossil fuel protests in US history. Texas-based Energy Transfer also accused Greenpeace of trespass, nuisance and civil conspiracy over the demonstrations nearly a decade ago against the Dakota Access Pipeline. The lawsuit, filed in state court, argued that Greenpeace was behind an "unlawful and violent scheme to cause financial harm to Energy Transfer".

Fed Lowers US Growth Forecast Amid Rising Tariff Concerns

The US Federal Reserve has cut its growth forecast, citing rising tariffs under President Trump as a key factor driving up prices. While keeping interest rates at 4.3%, Fed Chairman Jerome Powell warned that tariffs could slow economic growth and disrupt price stability. Trump’s aggressive tariff policies, alongside tax cuts and deregulation, have fueled inflation concerns and market volatility. The S&P 500 has dropped 10% since February, reflecting investor uncertainty. Despite this, Trump remains confident that tariffs will drive long-term economic growth. The Fed predicts inflation will rise to 2.7% by year-end, up from 2.5%,

while GDP growth is now expected at 1.7%, down from 2.1%. Although rates remain unchanged for now, policymakers anticipate potential cuts later in the year to support the economy.

To counter the slowdown, the Fed will slow its asset sales, indirectly injecting liquidity into the market. Powell emphasized a cautious “wait-andsee” approach, monitoring whether current economic weakness worsens.

While the Fed braces for tariff-induced inflation, White House officials dismiss concerns. National Economic Council Director Kevin Hassett argues that any tariff-related impact will be temporary. However, analysts warn that persistent inflation could destabilize economic expectations and lead to long-term price pressures. Despite inflation dropping to 2.8%, it remains above the Fed’s 2% target. Consumer sentiment has weakened, raising fears that inflation expectations could become unanchored.

proud to launch our first commercial development in India." Trump World Center Pune will set a new standard of sophistication and excellence, reflecting the same commitment to quality that defines Trump properties across the globe, said Eric. Kalpesh Mehta, Founder of Tribeca Developers, said: "This is a defining moment – not just for Tribeca, but for the evolution of commercial real estate in India. Trump World Center Pune is the culmination of years of vision and refinement, blending the Trump brand’s unmatched prestige with Pune’s ascent as a global business nucleus." India has become the Trump brand’s largest market outside the US. Ashish Jain, Managing Director of Kundan Spaces, said, "Pune is entering a new phase of commercial growth, and Trump World Center will be an integral part of this transformation." Tribeca Developers has a portfolio of 13 projects spanning 14 million square feet and valued at more than Rs 16,000 crore.

EVs to Match Petrol Prices in 6 Months: Gadkari

Prices of electric vehicles (EVs) will be equal to those of petrol vehicles in the country within six months, Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari said on Wednesday. Addressing the 32nd Convergence India and 10th Smart Cities India Expo, Gadkari further said the construction work of the 212km Delhi-Dehradun access-controlled expressway will be complete in the next three months. "Within six months, the cost of electric vehicles will be equivalent to the cost of petrol vehicles," he said.

Will Trump's Tariff War Drive Major Reforms in India?

India recently lowered tariffs on US goods ahead of Modi’s meeting with Trump, as Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal seeks a trade deal amid US tariff threats, which could cost India $7 billion annually. Goyal urged exporters to compete globally, while India pursues free trade deals with the UK, EU, and New Zealand. Meanwhile, Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel partnered with Elon Musk’s SpaceX to launch Starlink internet services in India. India’s past economic boom was

driven by global integration, but recent protectionism has hindered exports and manufacturing. High tariffs discourage efficiency and competition. Economist

Viral Acharya stresses reducing tariffs to increase India's global trade share. With India’s tariffs already high, further increases could be harmful. Economist Rajeshwari Sengupta warns that India lacks the export base for a trade war and should focus on boosting exports instead. Trade expert Aseema Sinha sees an opportunity for India to lead a new trade vision by reducing barriers and strengthening regional ties. Lower tariffs could make India a major trade hub and create jobs. Agriculture employs 40% of the workforce but contributes only 15% to GDP,

highlighting job challenges. While high-end services thrive, unskilled workers need manufacturing jobs. A key concern is potential Chinese dumping if India cuts tariffs. Sengupta suggests targeted non-tariff barriers against China while reducing tariffs broadly. However, Ajay Srivastava warns that excessive concessions to the US could weaken India’s bargaining power. Despite risks, potential US tariffs may drive reforms. HSBC economist Pranjul Bhandari sees an opportunity for India to benefit from global supply chain shifts under a second Trump presidency.

"Promise Made, Promise Kept": White House

On Sunita Williams' Return

The White House stated that President Trump fulfilled his promise to "rescue" NASA astronauts Sunita Williams and Butch Wilmore, who returned to Earth after nine months in space. A video of their SpaceX Dragon splashdown off Florida was shared on X, with the White House crediting Trump, Elon Musk, SpaceX, and NASA. After nine months in space, NASA astronauts Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams returned to Earth, splashing down off Florida in a SpaceX capsule. Parachutes ensured a gentle landing, as dolphins circled. Rescued with fellow crew members Nick Hague and Aleksandr Gorbunov, they waved and smiled upon exit. A NASA team opened the hatch and helped astronauts onto mobility aids. Ms Williams was seen waving and flashing thumbs-up signs as she came out of the capsule.

PM Modi to Sunita Williams: "Welcome back, Earth missed you."

Welcome back, #Crew9! The Earth missed you. Theirs has been a test of grit, courage and the boundless human spirit. Sunita Williams and the #Crew9 astronauts have once again shown us what perseverance truly means. Their unwavering determination in the face of the vast unknown will forever inspire millions.

Space exploration is about pushing the limits of human potential, daring to dream, and having the courage to turn those dreams into reality. Sunita Williams, a trailblazer and an icon, has exemplified this spirit throughout her career.

We are incredibly proud of all those who worked tirelessly to ensure their safe return. They have demonstrated what happens when precision meets passion and technology meets tenacity.

China, Singapore Students Outpace US Peers

Vivek Ramaswamy

Indian American biotech entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy warns that students in China and Singapore are years ahead of their American peers, calling it an “educational achievement crisis.” He cited data showing Chinese students are four years ahead, while Singaporean students lead by five.

Ramaswamy, a 2026 Ohio governor candidate, criticized the U.S. education system, noting that three-fourths of eighth graders lack math proficiency. He supports shutting down the U.S. Department of Education but believes states must take the lead in fixing the problem. A former Republican presidential candidate and now a Trump ally, Ramaswamy previously co-led the

Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) with Tesla before announcing his gubernatorial run. DOGE, under Elon Musk’s leadership, has cut several contracts deemed “woke” and wasteful. Ramaswamy has sparked controversy by stating that U.S. culture promotes mediocrity, which he argues is why tech firms rely on foreign H-1B workers instead of homegrown engineers. His exit from DOGE was reportedly due to clashes with Musk, though both Musk and Trump have endorsed his gubernatorial bid.

A February poll by Bowling Green State University and YouGov shows Ramaswamy as an early favorite for the 2026 Ohio governor’s race, leading with 61% support among Republican primary voters.

US Court Blocks Trump's Transgender Military Ban

A US federal judge temporarily suspended Trump's ban on transgender military service, citing equality. Judge Ana C. Reyes referenced the Declaration of Independence, halting Trump's January 27 order but allowing time for an appeal until March 21. Trump’s order claimed gender identity conflicts with military standards.

His administration also declared only two unchangeable sexes. The ruling is a setback to Trump’s efforts to remove minority protections. Around 15,000 transgender individuals serve in the US military out of two million personnel.

Indian Student's Post: "I Regret Moving To Canada" Sparks Debate

A Reddit post titled "I Regret Moving to Canada" has gone viral, highlighting the struggles of Indian students abroad. The anonymous user warns that the dream of a better life in the West is often an illusion.

The post claims international students are exploited as part of a "business model" by Canadian colleges and the government. Many enroll in private or low-ranking institutions with high tuition fees but poor education quality. "Professors barely put in effort, the curriculum is outdated, and degrees hold little value in the job market," the Redditor wrote, specifically calling Bow Valley College in Calgary "the worst school." Without Canadian work experience, many students are forced into survival jobs like Uber, warehouse work, or retail. The high cost of living—

eat," the user wrote. The post also claims employers exploit students with illegally low wages, replacing those who complain. Loneliness and depression are major concerns, as real friendships are rare. The Redditor urges aspiring students to reconsider, arguing that India offers better opportunities. "The West sells you an illusion. Stay in India, invest in yourself, and build something meaningful at home," they advised. The post sparked debate. Some agreed, calling Canada a tough place for students burdened with debt. One user wrote, “West is cool with a job, not for those living on peanuts.” Others defended Canada, saying poor choices lead to struggles. Another wrote, "If you blindly follow others into useless courses, it's your fault." The discussion continues, with opinions divided on whether Canada truly offers a better future.

King meets Carney in symbolic support for Canada

King Charles gave a warm welcome to the new Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney when he visited Buckingham Palace. There are also suggestions that once Canada's election is out the way, a visit to Canada will be a priority, where he can further demonstrate his support.

German Green Card Holder Detained, Stripped, and Interrogated at US Airport

Fabian Schmidt, a 34-year-old German national with a valid US green card, was detained by immigration officers at Logan Airport in Massachusetts on March 7 while returning from Luxembourg. Despite living in the US since his teenage years and recently renewing his green card, Schmidt was arrested, stripped naked, and violently interrogated before being transferred to the Donald W. Wyatt detention facility in Rhode Island, according to his family. His partner, who had gone to pick him up, waited four hours before seeking information. The family remains unaware of the reasons for his detention, with his mother, Astrid Senior, stating that officials only mentioned his green card was "flagged." She alleged that he was subjected to humiliating treatment, including

H-1B Visa Lottery Opens March 2025 Amid Ongoing Tech Layoffs

The H-1B visa lottery will open on March 7, 2025, continuing the annual process of selecting 85,000 highskilled foreign workers, according to the US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS).

This year, changes to the system have raised concerns, especially for those affected by recent tech layoffs. Unlike previous years, where multiple employers could submit registrations for the same applicant,

the new rule allows each worker to be registered only once. USCIS says this ensures fairness and prevents system manipulation.

being forcibly stripped, denied adequate water, and collapsing from exhaustion. Schmidt legally reissued his green card in 2023 after reporting the previous one lost. Despite this, his travel document was flagged upon reentry. US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) declined to provide specific case details but stated that travelers violating statutes or visa terms could face detention. His detention has sparked outrage, raising concerns over stringent immigration policies and the treatment of lawful US residents. This incident adds to growing debates about the enforcement and potential misuse of immigration laws, particularly under the Trump administration, as families and advocates push for answers regarding Schmidt’s arrest and release.

While some praise the reform as more transparent, critics argue it could disadvantage laid-off workers from companies like Meta, Microsoft, and Google, who now struggle to find new employment before their visa status becomes uncertain. Meta alone recently laid off over 3,000 employees, many of whom relied on their jobs for legal residency in the US. Despite rising registration fees and economic uncertainty, demand for H-1B visas may remain strong due to the growth of AI-driven industries and concerns over future restrictions. Employers must carefully consider these factors as the registration window approaches. India Denies Visa to Kshama Sawant

A day before introducing Gauri to the media, Aamir made her meet his good friends Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan at his residence. He also made her meet his family and children. "America can keep their silly award": Kangana

Kangana Ranaut's Emergency recently made its digital premiere on Netflix. The period political drama, which marks the actress' solo directorial debut, has been garnering positive reviews from streaming audiences.

On Sunday, the actress took to Instagram Stories to address fan appreciation. When one viewer suggested the film should be India's Oscar entry, she reposted the message with a pointed response: "But America wouldn't like to acknowledge its real face, how they bully, suppress and arm twist developing nations. It's been exposed in #emergency. They can keep their silly Oscar. We have National Awards."

The film depicts a significant moment during the 1971 India-Pakistan War when Indira Gandhi, portrayed by Ranaut, visits US President Richard Nixon at the White House seeking assurance that America

The scene shows Nixon mocking Gandhi's sari, which offends her. Later, when Nixon sends American troops to Bangladesh, Gandhi ensures the Indian Army arrives first, leading to Bangladesh's liberation. Kangana, already a four-time National Award winner, has previously received accolades for her performances in Fashion (Best Supporting Actress), Queen, Tanu Weds Manu Returns, and Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi (all Best Actress).

Besides playing Vicky Malhotra in the Shah Rukh Khan-starrer Baazigar, he played the villain Tiger Tadipaar in the Govinda and Raveena Tandon-starrer Anari No 1. While the film was not the biggest hit at the box office, Govinda’s fans seemed to enjoy it.

In an interview with Filmymantra, Adi talked about his relationship with several of his co-stars, including Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Sanjay Dutt and Govinda. The latter, who is known for his upbeat and eccentric comedy style, has starred in movies such as Coolie No 1, Partner, Bhagam Bhag, and more. Adi recalled how Govinda and him entered the industry at around the same time. “While we were not together from day one, our struggle in the industry started almost together. He used to visit the studio where I learnt dancing, and at that point, me and my friends used to make fun of his style of dancing. We had no idea that one day that particular style would blow up and he would be known for it; we were fools for laughing at him.”

Adi said that Govinda was a natural actor, but would dance to his own tune. “He would read the scene and then would go on to change everything, and not just his role but also the way people were acting around him in a scene. He would try to change the scene in a way that would help him shine over others in the frame.” The actor added that he did not mind Govinda changing the way the scenes were written.

Adi Irani talks about his experience of wokring with his Anari N.1 co-star Govinda, who was prone to altering scenes so that he would shine in them.

TN Drops Rupee Symbol in Budget , Sparks Row with Centre

Chennai: Tamil Nadu on Thursday replaced the rupee symbol (Re) in promotional material for the 2025/26 state budget - which will be presented Friday morning - with a Tamil letter (Ru). Posters for last year's budget included the Re symbol.

PM’s Airtel, Jio, Starlink Deals Aimed at Gaining Trump’s Favor

With both Airtel and Jio announcing partnerships with Starlink, the Congress on Thursday alleged that these have been orchestrated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi "to buy goodwill" with US President Donald Trump through Starlink's owner Elon Musk.

Congress general secretary in-charge communications Jairam Ramesh said that within literally 12 hours both Airtel and Jio have announced partnerships with Starlink, seemingly overcoming all their objections to its entry into India - which they have been voicing for quite some time. Is there some commitment to it now that Starlink's entry into India has been facilitated, Ramesh asked.

Trump’s Tariffs on Indian Pharma: A Costly Gamble

The impending US tariffs on Indian pharmaceuticals threaten to disrupt a critical supply chain, with severe consequences for American healthcare. India supplies nearly 50% of US generic drugs, saving the system $219 billion in 2022 alone. Any tariff-induced cost hikes could worsen drug shortages, disproportionately harming the uninsured and low-income Americans.

Indian pharma giants like Sun Pharma and Cipla warn that shifting manufacturing to the US is economically unfeasible. With prior tariffs on China already driving up drug raw material costs by 20%, additional levies on India would only escalate prices further.

While some suggest India should eliminate tariffs on US pharma goods to prevent reciprocal trade restrictions, such a move requires policy shifts. The Indian Pharmaceutical Alliance (IPA) has pushed for zero duty on US drug exports, but trade negotiations remain uncertain.

A possible US-India trade deal could bring relief, but until then, tariffs may inflict short-term economic pain. Given America’s struggle with rising healthcare costs, targeting India’s pharma industry seems counterproductive. The outcome of these trade talks will shape the future of global healthcare access and affordability.

India Calls Out Pakistan as Terror Epicenter

Pakistan recently accused India of 'sponsoring terrorism' in response to the deadly Balochistan train attack that killed 21 passengers

Following Pakistan’s accusation of India "sponsoring terrorism," the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) issued a strong rebuttal. In reply to media queries regarding Pakistan's allegations, the official spokesperson, Randhir Jaiswal, remarked: "We strongly reject the baseless allegations made by Pakistan. The whole world knows where the epicenter of global terrorism lies. Pakistan should look inwards instead of pointing fingers and shifting the blame for its own internal problems and failures onto others.

Pakistan’s accusation came on Thursday without directly implicating it in the Balochistan train attack that killed 21

Foul

passengers.

At the weekly press briefing, Foreign Office spokesperson Shafqat Ali Khan was questioned several times about the tragic incident that occurred on Tuesday, which led to a hostage situation lasting more than 24 hours.

“Terrorists were in direct communications with Afghanistanbased planners throughout the incident,” Khan stated, noting that Pakistan has consistently urged Afghanistan to prevent terrorist groups such as the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) from using Afghan territory to launch attacks against Pakistan.

Putin sets out conditions for Ukraine ceasefire

Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed "serious questions" over the USbacked 30-day ceasefire plan in Ukraine but signaled willingness to discuss it with Donald Trump. While supporting a ceasefire in principle, he insisted it must ensure "long-term peace."

As Russia makes rapid battlefield advances, including claiming control of Sudzha in the Kursk region, Putin emphasized that further steps would depend on ground realities. Meanwhile, Trump called Putin's stance "promising but not complete" and pushed for swift resolution. Talks between US envoy Steve Witkoff and top Kremlin officials are underway, but tensions remain high as both sides continue hostilities. Speaking at the White House following Putin's remarks, Trump said he would "love" to meet the Russian leader and that he hoped Russia would "do the right thing" and agree to the proposed 30-day truce. "We'd like to see a ceasefire from Russia," he said. Speaking earlier at a meeting in the Oval Office with Nato Secretary General Mark Rutte, Trump told reporters he had already discussed specifics with Ukraine.

US SEC Summons to Adani Reaches Ahmedabad, No Action Yet

The US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) summons against industrialist Gautam Adani has reached Ahmedabad, but authorities remain silent. The Ministry of Law and Justice sent the summons on February 27 for execution, instructing officials to report in English if it could not be served. However, the Ahmedabad police and judicial authorities' lack of response has sparked controversy.

The SEC filed a case in November 2024 against Gautam Adani, Sagar Adani, and Adani Green executives, alleging they attempted to secure projects by bribing government officials. The US requested India's legal cooperation, leading to the summons being forwarded to the Ahmedabad Sessions Court, with instructions to serve it at Adani's residence. Despite India's legal treaty with the US, the summons has not been executed even after 15 days, raising questions. Legal experts debate whether Indian authorities are delaying action, as the government's swift action suggests it does not want to appear hesitant in an international case.

Increased Scrutiny on Indian Green Card Holders at US Airports

WASHINGTON, DC-

Indian green card holders are facing heightened scrutiny by US Customs and Border Protection (CBP), including detentions and pressure to surrender their green cards. Legal experts advise against signing Form I-407 under coercion, as only an immigration judge can revoke a green card. Recent reports highlight CBP officers increasingly subjecting elderly Indians returning from extended stays abroad to secondary inspections and even overnight detentions. According to immigration attorneys, CBP is pressuring travelers—especially those who spend winters in India—to surrender their green cards. Under the US Immigration and Nationality Act (INA), lawful permanent residents (LPRs) returning after more than 180 days

are treated as seeking "re-admission" and may face grounds of inadmissibility. While abandonment is usually presumed after a year outside the US, scrutiny is rising even for shorter absences.

Florida-based immigration attorney Ashwin Sharma noted, "Elderly Indian green card holders are being targeted, particularly those spending extended periods outside the US. CBP officers are using threats of detention or removal to pressure them into signing Form I-407." Seattle-based attorney Kripa Upadhyay

emphasized that green cards cannot be revoked at the border unless voluntarily surrendered.

"Even if a person is accused of abandonment, they have the right to challenge it in court—unless they surrender at the airport," she warned.

Attorney Snehal Batra advised green card holders to maintain proof of US residence, including property ownership, tax returns, or employment records, to counter abandonment claims.

Immigration attorney Jesse Bless highlighted that those outside the US for over a year without a re-entry permit may face removal proceedings. Greg Siskin recalled past cases where CBP attempted to collect green card surrenders midflight. Experts urge travelers to be prepared for delays and assert their legal rights rather than surrender their status under pressure.

Ami Bera & Dem Physicians Launch Health Caucus

WASHINGTON, DC – Six Democratic physicians in the U.S. House of Representatives have launched the Congressional Doctors Caucus, a new initiative focused on pragmatic healthcare policy. The caucus aims to leverage members' medical expertise to improve access, lower costs, and strengthen care delivery, according to a press release. Led by Rep. we see the challenges facing patients and providers every day," Bera stated. "This caucus will use our expertise to promote policies that lower costs, expand access, and enhance care delivery." The Democratic Doctors Caucus marks a significant political shift, challenging the long-standing dominance of the GOP Doctors Caucus, established in 2009. Protesters Gather in Newark to Demand ICE Detention Center Stay Closed

NEWARK, NJ — Hundreds of protesters gathered in Newark to oppose a proposed federal immigration de-tention facility at Delaney Hall. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) confirmed plans for a 1,000bed center, the first of its kind under President Trump’s second term. ICE has an agreement with GEO Group, a major private prison operator, with the facility’s reopening deemed “imminent.” Pro-immigration groups, including Make the Road New Jersey and CAIRNJ, led protests, arguing detention prioritizes profit over public safety.

Interpol Alerts Global Authorities About Missing Student Sudiksha

RICHMOND, VA – Authorities have issued an international alert for Sudiksha Konanki, a 20-year-old University of Pittsburgh student who went missing in the Dominican Republic on March 6 during a spring break trip.

Interpol issued a Yellow Notice at the request of the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office in Virginia, where her family resides. The Dominican Republic National Police, in coordination with the US Department of State, FBI, DEA, Homeland Security Investigations, and University of Pittsburgh Police, is leading the investigation. Two Loudoun County detectives are assisting on-site. Attorney General Yeni Berenice Reynoso stated that all possibilities, including accidental and intentional causes, are being examined. Authorities have deployed drones, helicopters, divers, boats, canine units, and ground teams in the search.

Timeline

On March 6, video footage captured Konanki and Joshua Riibe returning from the beach. Riibe, a senior at St. Cloud State University in Minnesota, told authorities they entered the ocean, but he exited feeling sick, passed out on a beach chair, and later found her missing. Some of her belongings were found nearby.

Family Concerns

Konanki's father, Subbarayudu Konanki, has urged authorities to consider alternative theories, including foul play or kidnapping, rather than assuming a drowning incident.

ICE has an agreement with GEO Group, a major private prison operator, with the facility’s reopening deemed “imminent.”

Advocates warned of human rights violations and the facility’s impact on New Jersey’s large immigrant community. Under a 2021 state law, prisons are banned from new ICE contracts, but GEO Group and CoreCivic have challenged this in court. The Delaney Hall contract is valued at $1 billion over 15 years.

The Trump administration has intensified immigration crackdowns, citing a “large-scale invasion.” Newark has seen recent ICE raids, sparking community outrage and fear. Mayor Ras Baraka condemned a warrant-less ICE operation that detained three undocumented residents and multiple U.S. citizens. Despite opposi-tion from officials like Gov. Phil Murphy, Trump allies, including Rep. Jeff Van Drew, support expanded de-portations. Activists continue efforts to resist ICE enforcement, launching “Know Your Rights” campaigns and advo-cating for immigrant protections.

15-Year-Old Activist Pioneers Global Battery Recycling Initiative

MONROE, NJ- Sri Nihal Tammana, a 15-year-old of Indian origin from New Jersey, is making a significant impact on battery recycling. His journey began at age 10 when he learned about a lithium-ion battery explosion at a waste disposal plant in California. Realizing the environmental dangers of battery waste—pollution, fires, and toxic hazards—he founded Recycle My Battery (RMB) to educate communities and promote responsible recycling.

Over five years, Sri Nihal has helped recycle over 625,000 batteries and educated 40 million people through school programs, corporate workshops, and media outreach. His efforts have gained global recognition, including a feature in a German educational textbook by Westermann Verlag, ensuring students learn about battery recycling. With 15 billion batteries discarded annually, most ending up in landfills, Sri Nihal is determined to find solutions. His Residual Charge Project, approved by the University of Waterloo, repurposes

unused battery energy. To push for systemic change, he launched a Change.org petition advocating for manufacturer-funded recycling, gathering over 3,000 signatures. His initiative has mobilized 900+ youth volunteers and expanded The Battery Challenge to 30+ schools, aiming to recycle 300,000 batteries by year-end. Over 1,000 free battery bins have been placed in schools, libraries, and businesses. His work has earned him 75+ awards, including CNN Heroes Young Wonder, The Diana Award, and recognition as a Top 3 Finalist for the International Children's Peace Prize.

Sri Nihal envisions a global expansion of RMB, ensuring every school and community has access to battery recycling. Australia's B-cycle is already partnering with RMB to implement nationwide solutions. Passionate about environmental science, he aspires to invent a 100% eco-friendly battery. Through education, innovation, and advocacy, he is determined to create a cleaner, safer planet—one battery at a time.

Tax Season Cash Crunch? How NRS Funding Cash Advance Can Keep Your Store Afloat

Tax season can be particularly challenging for small brick-and-mortar stores. After the excitement and profitability of the holiday rush, retailers often face slower sales periods alongside unexpected expenses like tax preparation fees, accounting costs, and surprise tax liabilities. This seasonal financial strain can put significant pressure on your business's cash flow, potentially leading to penalties, disrupted operations, or even missed growth opportunities. Fortunately, business cash advances from NRS Funding can serve as a timely lifeline, offering the fast and flexible financial support needed to navigate tax season successfully. Why Tax Season Means Cash Flow Pressure for Retailers

Small retailers typically operate on tight margins, and tax season amplifies existing financial pressures. Many store owners underestimate their tax obligations, leaving them vulnerable to unexpected tax bills and late-payment penalties. Additionally, sales often decline sharply after the holiday season, further tightening cash flow and creating difficulty meeting fixed expenses like rent, payroll, and supplier pay-ments.

conventional loans, which require lengthy applications, detailed financial records, and high credit scores, cash advance funding offers quick capital access based on future sales. Cash advance from NRS Funding can help you successfully navigate tax season in several practical ways. Firstly, you can quickly cover unexpected tax bills, avoiding costly IRS penalties and interest charges. This allows you to maintain compliance without jeopardizing your day-to-day operations.

Beyond the usual costs, retailers incur additional expenses during tax season, such as hiring accountants, preparing financial documents, and potentially paying penalties for missed deadlines or underestimated quarterly tax payments. These issues can compound quickly, forcing businesses to make difficult choices, including reducing inventory, delaying necessary improvements, or cutting staff hours—decisions that could hurt long-term profitability and customer loyalty.

Trump Nominates

Anji Sinha as U.S.

Ambassador to Singapore

WASHINGTON, DC- Former President Donald Trump has nominated entrepreneur Anji Sinha as the next U.S. Ambassador to Singapore. The announcement was made on March 11 via a social media post.

“I am happy to announce that Dr. Anji Sinha will be the next United States Ambassador to Singapore. Anji is a highly respected entrepreneur with an incredible family! The United States’ relationship with Singapore is vital, and I have no doubt that Anji will strongly represent our nation’s interests and put America First. Congratulations, Anji!” Trump wrote. However, The Straits Times and other media outlets noted that Sinha has a limited public profile and is not widely recognized in Washington. Observers pointed out the lack of available information about him on websites or social media. Most Washington insiders were unfamiliar with Sinha before the announcement. The Straits Times reported that it had reached out to the White House, State Department, and the U.S. Embassy in Singapore for further details on his background and qualifications.

fast, and designed specifically for small retailers. Most applicants receive funding decisions quickly, often within days or even hours. Repayments are automatically deducted as a percentage of daily or weekly sales, ensuring your payments align naturally with your store's cash flow.

The flexibility of cash advance funding means you don’t take on rigid monthly payments, making this fi-nancing ideal for managing seasonal fluctuations. When your sales dip, your repayments adjust according-ly, reducing financial stress during slow months. This ensures your business remains agile, responsive, and better positioned to rebound from temporary setbacks without the risk of defaulting on fixed loan pay-ments.

Practical Ways to Use NRS Funding During Tax Season

Secondly, cash advance funding provides a critical buffer during slower sales periods. Instead of scaling back essential expenditures— such as inventory orders or payroll—you can sustain business operations until sales pick up again. By retaining complete staffing levels and stocking shelves, you ensure your store re-mains competitive and ready to serve customers effectively when foot traffic returns.

Finally, business cash advances offer an opportunity to strategically reinvest in your business during slower months. With immediate access to funds, you can take advantage of supplier seasonal discounts, invest in store improvements, or launch targeted marketing campaigns to attract customers. These strategic moves can help boost revenue and position your store for a stronger performance throughout the year.

Protect Your Store’s Stability This Tax Season

Tax season doesn’t have to threaten the financial stability of your retail business. Cash advance funding provides accessible, flexible financing that matches real-world sales performance, minimizing financial stress and protecting your bottom line. By proactively planning and utilizing NRS Funding, you can smoothly manage seasonal fluctuations, ensuring your store remains profitable and competitive year-round.

U.S. Introduces Registration Rule for Canadians Visitors Over 30 Days

WASHINGTON, DC- The Trump administration will enforce a long-overlooked U.S. immigration law re-quiring Canadians staying over 30 days to register with immigration authorities, The New York Times re-ports. Citing anonymous Canadian officials, the policy takes effect on April 11. Affected visitors must provide biographic details and fingerprints for a background check. This requirement stems from the Immigration and Nationality Act, which mandates noncitizens over 14 to register and provide fingerprints if staying beyond 30 days. Though long-standing, it was inconsistently ap-plied to Canadians entering via land. Under the new rule, Canadians exceeding a month’s stay must create a U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) account and schedule fingerprinting. Noncompliance may result in penalties. Green card holders and visa entrants are exempt.

This change impacts Canadians who frequently visit the U.S., including retirees ("snowbirds"), business travelers, and those visiting family for extended stays. The enforcement aligns with the Trump administra-tion’s broader immigration policies amid U.S.-Canada tensions, including trade disputes and tariffs on Ca-nadian steel and aluminum. The Department of Homeland Security has not yet detailed how the registration will be enforced. Travelers should monitor official updates to ensure compliance.

Security Clearances Pulled for Ex-Biden Officials Under Trump's Directive

WASHINGTON, DC – President

Donald Trump has moved swiftly to reshape the intelligence apparatus, us-ing security clearances as a political tool against adversaries. On March 10, Director of National Intelli-gence Tulsi Gabbard announced the revocation of clearances for key Biden administration figures, follow-ing Trump’s executive orders. Politico reports that former officials stripped of their clearances include Antony Blinken, Jake Sullivan, and Lisa Monaco, who oversaw January 6 prosecutions. Legal figures involved in cases against Trump, such as Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg and New York AG Letitia James, also lost access. Former FBI counsel Andrew Weissmann and ex-Ambassador Norm Eisen, both Trump critics, were affected. Breaking tradition, Gabbard confirmed former President Joe Biden would no longer receive the President’s Daily Brief. Additionally, clearances were revoked for 51 intelligence officials who dismissed Hunter Biden’s laptop reports as “Russian disinformation” in 2020.

Wayne A. Jacobs, special agent in charge of FBI

PHILADELPHIA, PA- The FBI Philadelphia Field Office is bringing awareness to a lesser-known crime impact-ing our community: transnational repression.

The FBI defines transnational repression as a foreign nation breaching national borders by physical or digi-tal means to silence, coerce, or threaten exiles, dissidents, and members of religious or ethnic minority communities.

"Every day, the dedicated women and men of FBI Philadelphia work to protect our communities from a wide range of threats. With this campaign, we’re shining a light on a crime that many in our city may not recognize— transnational repression," said Wayne A. Jacobs, special agent in charge of

FBI Philadelphia. "By engaging with the public, we aim to raise awareness about what transnational repression is, how it manifests, and, most importantly, encourage anyone who may be affected to reach out to us for help."

Transnational repression takes many forms, including:

• Stalking • Harassment • Hacking • Assaults • Attempted kidnapping • Forcing or coercing victims to return to their home country • Threatening or detaining family members in their home country • Freezing financial assets • Online disinformation campaigns

From our social media pages to billboards, communities in the greater Philadelphia region will see mes-sages about our efforts to combat transnational repression. We will also continue training with our law enforcement partners, as well as providing resources to victims.

The level of risk and the level of threat has increased over the past few years. Due to the nature of the crimes and the communities from which individuals are targeted, we believe many incidents of transna-tional repression go unreported. If you feel you may be a victim of transnational repression, you can report it to the FBI online at tips.fbi.gov or by calling 1-800-CALL-FBI.

This decision follows a lawsuit challenging the agency’s sudden rollout of new forms without advance no-tice. The grace period applies to forms such as:

• Form I-485 (Adjustment of Status)

• Form N-400 (Naturalization)

• I-485 Supplements A & J (Additional information and job offer confirmation)

• I-134 (Financial Support)

• I-192 (Advanced Permission to Enter as a Nonimmigrant)

• G-325A (Biographic Information)

• I-918 (U Nonimmigrant Status)

• I-131 (Travel Documents)

USCIS introduced updated versions in January, initially requiring immediate use. However, the abrupt change caused confusion and raised concerns about potential denials. In response, the American Immigra-tion Lawyers Association (AILA) and Benach Collopy LLP filed a lawsuit, leading to USCIS granting a transi-tion period. Notable changes in the updated forms include reverting to the term “alien” and limiting gender options to “male” and “female.” After the 30-day grace period, only the new January 20, 2025, editions will be ac-cepted. Applicants should check USCIS’s website for updates to avoid processing issues.

American Airlines Plane Catches Fire After Landing in Denver, 12 Injured

DENVER - An American Airlines plane landed at Denver International Airport on Thursday and caught fire, prompting an emergency evacuation. Twelve people were hospitalized with minor injuries.

Flight 1006, a Boeing 737-800, departed from Colorado Springs Airport en route to Dallas Fort Worth In-ternational Airport. The crew reported engine vibrations mid-flight, leading to a diversion to Denver, ac-cording to the FAA.

The aircraft landed safely at 5:15 p.m. local time and began taxiing to the gate when an engine caught fire. Passengers were evacuated using emergency slides.

Photos and videos shared on social media showed passengers standing on the aircraft’s wing as smoke surrounded the plane. The FAA confirmed that all passengers exited via slides. Denver International Airport stated on X (formerly Twitter) that those transported to hospitals sustained only minor injuries.

All 172 passengers and six crew

members were taken to the terminal, and firefighters quickly extinguished the blaze, an airport spokesperson reported.

American Airlines acknowledged the incident, stating the flight experienced an "engine-related issue" after landing but did not specify when exactly the fire ignited.

Jayapal Proposes Bill to Block WWII-Era Law from Enabling Mass Deportations

“This policy is rooted in some of the most shameful chapters of our history, including the racist internment of over 120,000 Japanese Americans in concentration camps,” Jayapal said. “Now, the Trump administra-tion wants to revive this law as a weapon against immigrants, forcing them to register and making mass deportations possible.” The law, dormant for decades, was originally used to justify the internment of Japanese Americans.

WASHINGTON, DC — Representative Pramila Jayapal (WA-07), Ranking Member of the Immigration Integrity, Security, and Enforcement Subcommittee, announced plans to introduce the No Round Up Act, a bill aimed at preventing the Trump administration from invoking a longdormant World War II-era law for mass deportations. The proposed legislation seeks to repeal provisions of the Immigration and Nationality Act that could enable large-scale targeting of immigrants, a move Jayapal links to the dark legacy of Japa-nese American internment during WWII.

The law, dormant for decades, was originally used to justify the internment of Japanese Americans.

“Targeting immigrants who have built their lives here only tears families apart and endangers vulnerable communities,” Jayapal added.

The No Round Up Act has gained strong support from lawmakers, including Representatives Judy Chu (CA-28), J. Luis Correa (CA-46), Adriano Espaillat (NY-13), Jesús “Chuy” García (IL-04), and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (NY-14).

Passenger Steve Schilsky shared a photo on X, writing, "Glad everyone is safe after what looked like jet fuel caught fire at Denver International…" The image shows passengers evacuating as emergency crews re-spond.

This incident adds to a series of recent aviation mishaps and close calls, including a plane flipping upon landing in Toronto and a Japan Airlines jet clipping a parked Delta aircraft in Seattle. Despite such incidents, air travel remains among the safest modes of transportation.

Bank of America Data Breach Exposes Sensitive Customer Information

WASHINGTON, DC- Bank of America has suffered a major security lapse, exposing customers' Social Security numbers, account details, addresses, and other personal information. The breach occurred when documents were left unsecured outside a financial center, attributed to a third-party data destruction vendor.

The bank revealed that on December 30, 2024, the vendor was hired to collect and shred confidential documents but left some outside their secure containers. While the exact number of affected customers remains unknown, Bank of America serves 69 million U.S. consumers and businesses.

Customers were advised to contact state attorneys general, including those in Massachusetts, New York, Washington D.C., and Oregon, for guidance on preventing identity theft. The bank, which manages $4.2 trillion in client balances, has faced previous data security incidents.

In January, Bank of America disclosed another breach affecting at least 414 customers. A third-party soft-ware provider had exposed mortgage loan data in Maine, revealing Social Security numbers, addresses, and other sensitive information.

Following the latest breach, the bank

FBI Warns of Fraudulent Federal Warrants in Wyoming

CHEYENNE, WY- The FBI is warning the public about a scam in which fraudsters send fake federal war-rants, demanding payment to resolve them. In a recent case in Wyoming, a victim received a fraudulent arrest warrant via text, claiming she had failed to appear as a prospective juror. The document appeared legitimate, featuring a case number, date stamp, court seal, and judge’s signature—but it was a scam.

Key Warnings from the FBI:

• Federal warrants are served in person or sent via certified mail—never by text, email, or regular mail.

• Do not share personal information with unknown callers or messages.

• Verify legitimacy by calling your local FBI field office or the court clerk listed on the warrant.

• No government agency will ever demand payment via gift cards, gold, or cryptocurrency.

One victim in Wyoming lost over $10,000 by following scam instructions. If you suspect fraud or have been a victim, report it to the FBI at 1-800-CALL-FBI or tips.fbi.gov.

notified potentially impacted customers, though it could not confirm whether their documents were directly affected. To mitigate risks, Bank of America is monitoring accounts and offering two years of free identity theft protection via Experian.

Customers are urged to check bank

statements, update contact details, strengthen passwords, and enable multifactor authentication for added security.

Other major banks have also faced breaches. In June 2024, Citigroup suffered a credit card data hack, while in February, JPMorgan Chase exposed the financial details of over 450,000 retirement plan holders due to a software flaw.

Additionally, Wells Fargo’s 2016 scandal involved unauthorized account openings, leading to $3 billion in fines. These incidents highlight ongoing vulnerabilities in the banking sector’s data security.

Indian Embassy Warns Against Fake Calls Posing

as Official Representatives

WASHINGTON DC – The Embassy of India in Washington, DC, has issued an advisory warning about a scam where fraudsters spoof the Embassy’s phone lines to deceive individuals, especially Indian nationals. These calls appear to originate from the official number (202-939-7000) and aim to steal personal information or extort money. Scammers impersonate Embassy officials, falsely claiming issues with passports, visas, or immigration documents that require immediate payment to avoid deportation or imprisonment. Some fraudsters also allege they have received sensitive information from the Embassy or Indian authorities. Even visa appli-cants have reported similar fraudulent calls.

Recent Changes to Social Security Benefits Impact Millions

WASHINGTON ,DC - The Social Security Administration (SSA) has announced key changes for retirees, disa-bility beneficiaries, and veterans in March 2025. These updates aim to counter inflation and ensure finan-cial stability for over 70 million Americans.

A major update is the 2025 Cost-ofLiving Adjustment (COLA), which increases Social Security payments by 2.5%, based on 2024’s economic data. This adjustment helps recipients maintain purchasing power amid rising costs. The first adjusted payment will be issued on March 12, 2025.

Additional SSA modifications include:

• Higher Taxable Earnings Cap: Workers’ taxable income limit rises to $176,100, strengthening Social Secu-rity funding.

• Changes in Full Retirement Age: The retirement age range (66–67 years) is gradually increasing to 68 or 70, ensuring long-term sustainability.

• Increased Maximum Benefits: Retirees reaching full retirement age in 2025 could receive over $3,800 monthly. These updates primarily benefit retirees, disabled individuals, and survivors who rely on Social Security. Payments adjust automatically, requiring no action from recipients. Staying informed about these changes allows beneficiaries to plan their finances effectively. The SSA remains committed to system stability and adapting to economic conditions.

Childhood Cancer Research at Risk: Fremont Indian-American Mom Appeals to Congress

FREMONT, CA – Fremont resident and American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN) volun-teer Manisha Modi Mehta joined 350 cancer patients, survivors, and family members in Washington, D.C., for the 15th Annual Alliance for Childhood Cancer Action Days.

Organized by the Alliance for Childhood Cancer, the event united advocates from 39 states and Washing-ton, D.C., to push for stronger support in the fight against childhood cancer.

On February 28, Manisha met with Representative Ro Khanna’s legislative assistant and other congression-al staff to share the story of her son, Ronil, who passed away at 14 from an aggressive brain tumor. She urged Congress to prioritize funding for childhood cancer programs and research.

“Eighty-five percent of children with cancer now survive five years or more, a significant improvement from 58% five decades ago. However, some childhood cancers, like Ronil’s, still have poor prognoses. Re-search

Survey: AAPI Community Calls for Action on Economy, Health, and Housing

WASHINGTON , DC- With rising costs straining American households, a new survey shows that Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders (AAPI) overwhelmingly want the federal government to prioritize reducing everyday economic burdens rather than cutting public-sector jobs or eliminating entire agencies.

The poll, released March 12 by AAPI Data and The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Re-search, reveals that nearly 8 in 10 AAPI adults cite health care costs as a top concern, followed closely by food prices and housing affordability. This economic anxiety contrasts with cost-cutting proposals from President Donald Trump’s administration, including the planned dismantling of the Department of Educa-tion under the newly formed Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), led by adviser Elon Musk. While Republicans argue these measures curb spending, AAPI adults remain

largely skeptical. About 6 in 10 oppose eliminating federal agencies, and nearly half reject mass federal layoffs. Instead, two-thirds be-lieve the U.S. underfunds education, and around 6 in 10 say the same about healthcare, environmental protections, and homelessness. However, about half think military spending is excessive.

Karthick Ramakrishnan, executive director of AAPI Data, noted that AAPI communities favor pragmatic solutions over partisanship. The survey, conducted Feb. 4-11, 2025, included 1,170 AAPI adults with a mar-gin of error of ±4.7 points.

“Eighty-five percent of children with cancer now survive five years or more, a significant improvement from 58% five decades ago. However, some childhood cancers, like Ronil’s, still have poor prognoses. Re-search is critical to improving treatments and extending lives,” Manisha stated.

She and fellow advocates called on lawmakers to continue funding the Childhood Cancer STAR Act to enhance care for young patients and survivors. They also urged support for the Accelerating Kids’ Access to Care Act, which would streamline Medicaid coverage for children with complex medical needs. Additionally, they requested increased investment in the National Institutes of Health and the National Cancer Institute to advance cancer research. About 80% of the 14,000 newly diagnosed children each year depend on research institutions for lifesaving treatments, with over half enrolling in clinical trials. “Since Ronil’s passing, I’ve worked to raise awareness for DIPG and secure research funding through the Neev Kolte & Brave Ronil Foundation. Lawmakers play a crucial role in saving lives, and I hope they recog-nize the urgency of our asks,” Manisha emphasized. Cancer remains the second leading cause of death in children ages 1 to 14.
