Early this year we were offered the opportunity to visit Production Park in South Kirkby to learn about the live events industry from Academy of Live Technology(ALT)

WetookallouryearoneMusicandGamesDesign students on the coach, and there we got a tour of the amazing studio spaces and Xplore lab as well asaquickquizonliveevents, andasessiononthe degreecoursestheyrunatALT

Our learners really enjoyed the day and many commented on learning so much about job roles they didn’t know about or hadn’t considered before

The end-of-year gig at Manchester’s iconic BandontheWallfeltlikearealcelebrationof everything the students had worked on over theyear Theenergyintheroomwasbuzzing, and the performances had a sense of confidence and joy that only comes from months of graft paying off With a mix of coversandoriginals, theeventshowedoffnot just musical ability but also how far the students had come in terms of stage presence and connection with the crowd Playing in such a legendary venue added to the occasion, and you could tell everyone rose to it. We reckon it was possibly the best gig yet a proper high note to end the year on.

In March, our Where Are They Now? day broughtamixofinsightandinspiration, witha panel of industry professionals who were once FutureSkills music students themselves and had performed on the very same stage The vibe was really informal and honest, which made the Q&A with current students feel open and genuine; nothing sugarcoated, justrealexperiencesandadvicefrom people who’ve been through the same journey.

Laterintheday, theA&Rpanelgavestudents thechancetostepupandperforminfrontof the pros, getting direct feedback on their music. It was a rare opportunity to showcase their work and hear what people working in the industry thought, and it made the whole eventfeelbothencouragingandpractical.

BackinFebruary, studentsputonaperformanceshowcase with a difference - a night led and organised by them to raise money for the local music-related mental health charity We Are Hummingbird The gig had a real sense of purpose behind it, with everyone pulling together to put on agreatshowwhilesupportinganimportantcause Thesetswerevariedandfullofenergy, anditwasclearhow much the performers cared about both the music and the message of the night It was more than just a showcase of talent; it showed the students’ commitment to using music as a way to make a positive impact, and on top of that we helpedraisemoneyand awholeheapofawareness.
